Lips Magazine Inspo
Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012 | 40 Comments

Some inspiration from the February issue of Lips. Lips is a fairly new magazine with this February issue being volume 7. It focuses on women in their late 20’s and early 30’s who enjoy a mix of high brand and vintage clothing. The styles are “adult casual” and lean towards “street” fashion with a balance of office appropriate coordinates as well. So there are a lot of “on/off” coordinate examples to demonstrate how a single piece of clothing could work for both work and play. :deco2: I posted about 40 images below the “read more” so be forewarned. :deco6:

My computer actually crashed when scanning these in. I had ended up scanning in over 100+ pages but … yeah, it crashed. I think I would have posted too much anyway. So I just didn’t rescan any of the beauty section really. Probably this entry will already crash some phones or computers too?
SORRY! lolol

Holy ta-moly I am loving the inspo post! It’ll definitely help me come up with different outfits for interviews and school. ^__^
GREAT!!! \:D/
Super cute – I like a lot of the coats/blazers photographed. I like how it’s casual but it still looks kinda dressy XD
Agreed. It’s a great mixture. This magazine really covers a lot of styling options!
I finally decided to order that Dazzlin Tiger Head Sweater. I dunno what I was thinking, WAITING FOR THAT LONG ON SOMEONE SO BEAUTIFUL. :C
And oh how jealous I am of the mild winters Japan gets. I would never be able to survive a day in my city with only a pair of tights on like that.
Thank you so much for the scans.
Haha agreed. All last year I’d wear double tights with nude ones underneath colored or patterns. This year I’ve almost exclusively worn extra warm thick versions meant for cold winters.
Love the inspiration post! Will definitely do some of the outfit combinations~ :3
Great to hear!! :D
The style is totally something that you can pull off! So nice! Ah Jenny, when you say about high brand, you mean on each outfit you have a item that’s high brand the and rest is simple?
Thanks! Well when I say high brand it mostly means the magazine covers both expensive brands but also covers mixing in vintage shop clothing and styles too. It’s not literal as in you MUST mix an expensive piece with a thrift store piece. It mostly means the two styles are covered by the magazine. It’s a part of the appeal many of the readers like. A lot of magazines for older 20-smtgs only focus on expensive European brands or exclusively cheaper brands but not both.
I understand now! Thank you for answering me! As for the style and your style, there aren’t someday when you want to wear something vintage? Or punk? Or sweet? I don’t know if it’s only me, but there are times i want to wear pink and laces and then engineer boots and studs.
Oh ho ho I can relate to THAT!! Actually that really describes where I was 2 years ago. I liked so many different styles. But for me it was becoming too much. Too much money. Too much confusion. So many things I owned only matched with 1 other item and I had an out of control closet. I spent last year correcting it. I’m not saying it’s wrong but for me it just wasn’t working and I started feeling unhappy in all my clothes. So I thought about what I liked on me best, what I’ve always liked, and slowly focused my style more. Yes. I still love rock style! Or sweet style! But I can “appreciate” those styles without wearing it. Because now I feel the most “myself” in everything I buy. If I like a trend now I try to work it in just simply. Through accessories or something easy like tights, necklaces, or something else cheap. So I can enjoy the trend without regretting or losing my personal style to it. I guess really I just shop different now than I used to. Shopping is so much more enjoyable and easy for me now that I’m not so all over the place with my clothing choices. It’s what I definitely needed but I’m not saying it’s the right choice for you. As long as you’re happy, do it!!! I wasn’t happy any more liking street, blogger, sweet, amerkaji, etc, etc all at once.
wow! thank you for sharing! :-) i love how those are formal yet casual at the same times. i love those layerings with skirts!
By the way, do you have any idea who’s on the cover?
Anna Tsuchiya~~
Thank you :) I must buy a Japanese magazine some day, since I love all sorts of magazines…
They definitely have a large assortment to choose from!
I love this new magazine, thanks for scans ! Girls are so cute and it’s nice to see a magazine for the 30 years and more (i am 28) ! ^^
HIGH FIVE! I’m 28 too :)
YES OUR AGE GROUP, HAHA XD
I actually really love this! There’s enough edginess & black to keep me happy while still maintaining a more ‘adult,’ streamlined silhouette… Thanks for sharing ♥
No problem!! And yes agreed!! I mean Sweet has the target age of 28 but is sometimes a little too girly and sweet and nothing more.
So, I perused this post last night when I got home from work but was too tired to post a coherent comment. LOL. Thanks so much for sharing! This is an AMAZING inspo post that I’m going to have to peek at again and again. Divine~
Well I’m glad you liked it!! It’s got a great variety. I wish I could have shared more *shakes fist at her computer
Ooo~ I like Anna “natural”/minimal makeup~ As well as all those chunky ankle boots~ =D
\:D/
I love the 3rd image (Hitomi). such a cute coord~
I hadn’t seen her in a magazine for a little while, it’s good to see her again personally :D. I think a lot of the models I used to like are in this magazine! I wish it were easier for me to just pick up without a full subscription.
Thanks for posting! This is great :D
Great!!! I think I remember you mentioning wanting to see inside this! :)
Ooh, thanks for these scans! Aimed for women much older than me, (I’m sixteen) but I love the elegance and sophistication of this style! Definitely going to put a few of these co-ords to use. :)
I noticed that a lot of those outfits are skirts above the knee with tights. Are those really office appropriate, though? I’d love to wear outfits like that when I have a job, but a lot of older (above 30 years old) people have said that any skirt that doesn’t hit the knee is unprofessional. Not sure I agree with that, but I was curious to your view on it?
Honestly there’s no definite answer. It all depends on your profession and office dress code. (in the US at least) I’ve worked in various offices. Most are ok with above the knee (on a daily basis I see 30~40 yr olds wearing above the knee) but not extremely short. Most women wear dark tights still but not always. My office is “business casual” and most skirts and dresses hit at right above the knee but some at or below. Really you’ll have to ask the administrators but then also get an idea by seeing what your coworkers wear as well and lastly what YOU are comfortable wearing at whatever age you are.
Great post! The one thing I don’t like about Anna is her hair; it washes her face out!
Haha, I have no opinion one way or the other but it’s definitely a look I haven’t seen her in before (but I haven’t been following her either.)
3rd picture at the top, the girl with the leopard skirt, is that the girl from Kill Bill? If so, she is looking mighty fine these days!
Yuuuuuuuuurp! :D She’s so flippin gorgeous :)
Is that Emi? (the model with the short hair) Haven’t seen her in ageeeesss but she looks so familiar~ (cam’t seem to find a photo to check)
Yup! Miho Tanaka is in it too but I didn’t post it. :)
anna still looks like…strange idk shes lost her way from her cute Cher days….i look in her eyes and shes telling me she wish she had some hot topic looking clothes on now
:/
anyways…nvr heard of lips but glad i did…definitely in my radar now..loves cas-street
LOL I never really followed her *so has no strong opinion one way or the other :P She looks like an old friend of mine on the cover~
thanks for all the effort! really!
Love that gal in the black print dress with red tights and blazer! Such a cute look, classy and pretty but popping with style. Love this kind of style — thanks for sharing! (:
