Spring Closet Clean

Sunday, Mar. 4, 2012 | 57 Comments

I did another closet clean-out. Mostly winter things I thought I’d wear again this year but didn’t … so, I think it’s time to find them a new home. Mostly donation with a few I’m shipping off to my little sister. Plus I included spring and summer items I know I hardly wore last summer and don’t think I’d really enjoy wearing this year. :deco13:

I had a pile of 21 “maybes” and only kept 4 from it.
A denim dress, two tees, and an Emoda tank top.
Not bad seeing as they were all summer items too; meaning I didn’t hold onto any winter stuff from the maybe pile.

I’m thinking of switching out my WC backpack too. I just want to replace it before going without it. I’m still on the fence about it. Though I was looking at this backpack below at UO and it really fits my needs. I want something more rucksack in shape, smaller, light in color with dark or leather trim, and feminine but semi-gender-neutral so I can force Mike to carry it when I’m tired. lolol

The people who shop at or get clothes donated to them via the place you support are soooooo lucky. :)

LOL so nice to say hahaaha~ I spread it around. Last time I did a pickup from the lupus foundation but often I dropped them in goodwill or catholic charities clothing bins. Not sure which I’ll use this time… maybe a pickup again since they specially requested donors for more clothing.

*Looks in my closet*I really need to clean out my closet….(;´ρ`)

That backpack looks really cute! Has a nice summer/picnic theme to it.

    • jenny says:

Agreed! I’m really thinking about walking the streets this summer on travel again but want a backpack change and this one fits closest!

  3. Sam says:

Your Saturday outfit is sooo cute! Love everything – the washed denim shirt, high waisted shorts, thick knit jacket, solid tights and flats…. perfect!
LOL at the last line on the bag “…but semi-gender-neutral so I can force Mike to carry it when I’m tired.” So true and clever! I used to want a cute leather backpack but I decided not to since I used to have a big purple hobo bag and that just invited everyone to dump their stuff in it – water bottles, umbrellas, wallets, shopping purchases, etc. I finally downsized to a smaller purse so now my shoulder can take a break haha!

    • jenny says:

Ding ding ding ding!!! This! My current backpack is definitely larger and absolutely invites ppl to shove things into it for /me/ to carry. I don’t mind but I get fatigued so quickly! I need a downgraded size indeed!

  4. Tina says:

Bah, don’t remind me about spring cleaning. Responsibilities shush.

That backpack is gorgeous! Is it from Yesstyle? :o

  5. Ashley says:

    You should have done a blog sale! I totally would have bought some of your items ;-;

    • jenny says:

Haha, awww yeah I thought about that a little but it’s such a crazy hassle and I just wouldn’t have time in my life right now to get get to the post office.

  6. sukipooki says:

I love your shorts! They’re adorable! I tried something similair on and they looked hideous on me hahha I’m so jelly of you! I also do closet clean outs too and my mum always looks through my piles as well as my sisters cause she’ll pick stuff out from them!

    • jenny says:

Ah well I’m envious of you and your family being there to pick out their favorites! One of the few drawbacks I’ve found with living 1,000 miles away is getting “hand-me-downs” to my sister!! Some stuff I send she doesn’t even like *wasted postage lol* :P

  7. Mary says:

Omigee I’d totally take your stuff

  8. Kate says:

Ara~ I love cleaning out my closet. It’s such a nice feeling!!

  9. mei says:

    Nice outfit :D
    OMG so many clothes !

  10. Jessica says:

Congratulations! Ha ha, cleaning up your closet is no easy task. I should probably get to doing that myself.. And speaking of backpacks, I find it quite difficult to find one that suits what I want! Finding the perfect backpack is, perhaps, as difficult as cleaning out a closet. Ha ha!

  11. I need to do some cleaning too ^^;; haha But wow! You have a lot of maybe clothes! And I am looking for a backpack like that :)

oh i like your shoes! I feel like I need to do a spring clean of my whole home… or should I say autumn clean hehe :P

  13. Michelle says:

Gahhh. My closet is a caution zone right now. I can’t do anything about it until Spring Break with the amount of homework I have to do on top of work and internship. I need to learn to keep my basics and part ways with my funkadelic patterns.

  14. Anna says:

I just have to say that after I started reading your blog, I’ve started to really think about what I buy and make sure that I clean out my closet more often, I actually cleaned out my closet last week and got rid of a lot of clothes I don’t use anymore (hanged on to them to see if I’d use them again). So thank you! Now I don’t buy stuff just because I kind of like them, if I don’t love it I don’t buy it anymore.
Thank you so much for being an inspiration for me! Hope you have a good rest of your day!

    • jenny says:

I don’t really know what to say except thank you and I’m glad to hear that you’re happier with your closet now! I really didn’t know or realize that my learned and sort of new shopping mantras were coming through on my blog to be honest. Not that I was trying to say anything of importance, but I definitely feel the same way. Especially that not buying it despite liking it even a little part. I definitely feel I can function better in a “less is more” closet environment now and definitely still working on curbing my purchasing habit! This really motivates me to stay focused! Lately I’ve been wanting to buy more Madewell for spring but I need to back off for a while to be honest xD

      • Anna says:

You’re welcome :) and yeah, I have for ages, had this problem with getting dressed because I have soo much clothes to choose from, too much really, and diffrent styles too! Now it feels like I have a good mix of casual/cute and more dressier clothing for events that need me dressing up!
Yeah, I’m still working on the whole purchasing thing as well, and I always have to think about it so that I don’t slip back into buying stuff because I kinda like them. I also have a rule now that I apply to all clothing I buy, I have to be able to pair it up with more than 4 other items in my closet! It’s works really well!
I’ve seen all the Madewell stuff that you’ve posted and damn, if we had a Madewell here I’d be so broke lol!

        • jenny says:

Four other items!! That’s a good challenge! It’s difficult but totally possible I’m sure. I might have to borrow this rule come spring you know :)

          • Anna says:

            Glad you like it :D
I need to save space (I don’t have that much space), since I live in a pretty small apartment with my man.
Since my last closet-clean-out, I now have a whole shelf to use if needed haha! I’ve already started to buy some spring items, because spring is getting really close. Can’t wait for the last snow and slush to disappier so I can buy light colored spring shoes :)
And I need to thank you for introducing me to 古着MIXガールズ! When I was in Japan in January, I found it and fell in love with it! I want to read more of it, but it seems impossible to find online etc :(

          • jenny says:

            Ah that’s how I felt when I found my first issue randomly at book-off in sept ‘10. Honestly that magazine set me off onto this whole path of closet/style rediscovery. I just got the latest issue in (I can only seem to get it through a subscription at fujisan.com) I need to scan in some inspo from it (and post it.) I’ve gotten behind on that recently. ;_;

          • Anna says:

Yeah, same here! I felt the exact same way when I started to see this style. It felt so “right” somehow, just the kind of style I’ve always loved, but not knowing how to put it together myself. And now my closet is pretty much just this type of items and clothing, also inspired by Rinka!
I’m going to make my friend mail me the magazine once he moves back to Japan haha!
I’d love to see scans from it, hope you have time some day to scan in inspo from it! I love it when you scan in inspo and I find myself looking through them, as well as your outfit posts for inspiration and new ways to combine my clothing.

  15. I would also need to do that. Especially if I’m going to move from Sweden, then I can’t bring that much clothes :S

  16. Tori says:

Wow, so much stuff leaving!! It feels good though, y/y? Like starting with a blank canvas :)

    • jenny says:

Indeed!! Though not really blank canvas, more of a finished canvas? A more polished canvas? I’m not sure … my body is a canvas that is ready hahahahaha

  17. Amelia says:

Purging clothes feels so good. I need to do the same soon.

I really like that backpack. I have been looking for one for quite some time and I found one at PG Beauty on Yesstyle that answers my needs (I was also looking for something relatively cheap since I only need it for my German class).

Oh and before I forget, your shoes are so cute, I thought for a second they were open toe.

  18. cin says:

Wow so many clothes~~ If I was as small as you I’d buy them off you XD
And lol at getting Mike to carry your bag! I should do that to Phil!! haha Thanks for the idea! Now to find a unisex backpack~ Btw I’ve got this backpack for sale right now for $17 http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b65/cincincin/Etc/P1100498.jpg If you like it I can just give it to you for $5 (to cover shipping) :3 But a warning it’s not as good quality material (the pleather) as our matching satchel/backpacks!

    • jenny says:

Awe it’s so cute!! I’m tempted but I think I need to stick to canvas. I remember my leather convertible purse straps on my tank top wearing bare shoulders was “no me gusta.” Hahaha!

  19. Sami says:

Whatever that leopard thing is, IT LOOKS SO FLUFFY! XD

  20. Lotti ☆ says:

Looks like you have a lot of nice clothes! I love what you’re wearing in the first photo, especially the shoes ; u ; I should start digging through my closet for some spring clothes soon, because it’s so nice and sunny outside right now *_*

    • jenny says:

It was so warm & sunny here last week it definitely fueled my spring cleaning! But now it’s cold and snowy again so I have to wait a little longer I guess :( Good to get it out of the way though!

  21. Beth says:

I have some black shorts like yours, and was wondering what to wear with them today so I thought I’d check your blog hahaha. I adore your coordinates – you make it look so effortless. I’m usually so tired in the morning I just throw on a dress which is fine in the summer, but not when it’s still so frosty outside!

    • jenny says:

:O REALLY!? I can’t believe you check my blog for ideas *touched and surprised*

I understand what you mean about being tired SOOOOO WELLLLL! Honestly a big reason I purge my close so often, keeping it down to just my favorites, is for that very reason. I’m too tired to really think some mornings so having JUST my favorites, that also coordinate pretty well with each other, makes it incredibly easy for me to at least come out looking decent. I used to look like a slob some mornings haha~

Hmmm my knit dress is my “I can’t function this morning” dress right now xD

.. I’m wearing it today LOL

  22. Cindii says:

That sounds like a good idea. I should organize my closet and get rid of some stuff.

  23. Thanh Thao says:

Can you please donate me your clothes XDDDDD I also do closet cleaning once in while cause my closet is too small and I keep on buying new stuff :)

    • jenny says:

You have no idea how much I wished all my blog friends lived closer!! To be able to have someone just go through them & pick out their favorites would make me much happier than donating to strangers hoping someone will like it eventually.

  24. Courtney says:

Hahaha good idea on that backpack!! Is the one your ditching the convertible leather one?

  25. Lokkita says:

There’s nothing better than a closet after a major clean out!

But too bad you don’t live in California, I’d love to shop at the goodwills you donate too! haha

  26. Einna says:

I haven’t commented in a while but I’ve still been reading your posts. :)
Anyway my friend got this backpack from Urban Outfitters recently and it’s really cute!

    http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/urban/catalog/productdetail.jsp?id=21332762&color=004&itemdescription=true&navAction=jump&search=true&isProduct=true&parentid=SALE_W_ACC

She got it in ivory and it looks much better in real life than in the photos. I’m not sure if it’s what you’re looking for but I just thought I’d share.

  27. anastasia says:

My mom wants this same backpack! I’m trying to get her to buy it so she can look hip (and I can borrow it). My mom’s silly c:
