A Few New Closet Items
Friday, May. 18, 2012 | 37 Comments
Compared to my last trip to Japan, I bought way fewer clothes this time. It’s a little hard to explain the reasoning(s.) Though I suppose it’s an incredibly simple overall theme. I’ve changed. :) And I’m quite happy. :deco2: I know it had a lot to do with why I enjoyed this trip even more than previous ones.
So shopping.
I knew the shops I wanted to visit. But I was also trying to avoid a “mission-plan” style agenda this time too. So I could relax and enjoy myself better. Well on the first day I did go shopping. But after a few stores, and trying on many, many things at Lepsim, Apart by Lowrys, etc. I got a bit bored with clothes shopping. First & foremost, I got swallowed up in a lot of things I tried on. To say, most free sizes were a little too loose for my liking right now.
Secondly, anything I did try on & liked a lot …
I already owned something too similar! Ha!
Lastly though, and this one was probably the biggest reason, I was happy with what I had at home already. So if I didn’t love something to bits I didn’t stress to buy it. :deco3:
That’s not to say I came home without any new clothes. :deco13:
I picked up a few things I really loved. And buying less also let me spend more on what I really did want. Like this sweater from Cher that was a bit ridiculously priced. I also got a skirt and earrings from Kastane that I wore immediately.
So I picked up the spring sweater from Cher, their new waterproof eco bag, a skirt and earrings at Kastane, room wear from Tutuanna, and dresses from UNIQLO and Shimamura.

The Kastane skirt is actually a little big but has a drawstring tie on the inside for sizing. It’s just a great neutral shade and the layers are really soft for summer. It catches wind like a freakin’ kite though! Bicycle shorts or opaque tights underneath are a must! Ha!
The earrings come with clip-on additions which I thought was really clever. The clip-ons can hold any french-hoop earrings. My ears are pierced so I didn’t need the clip on portions but my friend’s aren’t so I gave them to her to use. Win-Win! :ok:

This dress (on the left) was something I was hoping to buy at Lowrys Farm, however I liked the fit of the UNIQLO version better. I’ve already worn it more times than I can recall. Actually I’m wearing it right now with my Cher black cardigan from my 2008 trip to Japan. lol :deco3:

Went to Shimamura with my friend looking for S-Leg tights and inexpensive room wear. I saw this dress though. (on the right.) I thought it was a bit too sweet for me but she encouraged me to get it saying “some days you just feel you want to be really sweet!” It was more than affordable so I figured why not. :deco15: I’ve already worn it a few times with a sweater. If I’m feeling the need for extra sweet look I can pop the collar out from underneath! Also, yeah, it’s been cold here a lot lately since getting back.

Tutuanna room wear. Just some nice lounging clothes to wear when home and comfortable but not going to bed.
Also I got this really silly but cute shirt as a gift!…

Duck in bright red frames! It’s a really comfortable 3/4 sleeve tee. A gift from a friend’s mother after I pointed out she always wore cute shirts like this. It reminds me of my old Happy Market one I had to toss because I got it badly stained. It’s so comfortable I wear it around the house a lot since the weather is so hot then cold lately.

Scarf and belt. The scarf is from Wachifield and features a baby Dayan.

Tights from Tutuanna, Shimamura (S-Leg) and various shops. I bought a few more pairs not shown; “cooling” versions for summer. I regret not buying more from Tutuanna because they’re incredibly comfortable for 8+ hours of wear.

Photos of the above items I while still on vacation…

These were all the same day actually.
The day I visited Kamakura.
I wore my mint blazer because it was chilly in the morning but it got very hot by the afternoon. I wore nude tights that had nude dots on them. I got them from Target but saw the exact same pair at Tutuanna. Same dot size, shade, seams and everything. :deco2:

That’s the greatest feeling! When you are content and don’t stress out~ I’m glad you enjoyed yourself on this trip~
The clothes you did purchase are cute! I love the cut of the uniqlo dress~ The stripes are awesome too~
Everything you bought is really cute and pretty! My favorite has to be that sailor dress! I feel like you can dress it to be really girly or just simple and sweet =) Glad you enjoyed this trip more than last time too.
The sailoor dress, so cute *-*
I’m hoping I can visit Japan someday soon
:*
Ah shopping while on vacation is such a dangerous thing. I think they did research and it’s a psychological phenomenon to buy things you wouldn’t have if you were not on a vacation somewhere.
Last time I went to Japan, I debated for at least 20 minutes with myself whether to get this shirt dress from PBJ or not because it was pretty plain, but really expensive. My husband finally convinced me to get it and now I wear it *all* the time. I’m sad I didn’t buy a backup!
Did you find that the stuff at Uniqlo Japan was better than the one in NY? I found a lot more things to buy in the Japan stores than I usually do in the SOHO one. Recently, my husband went to NY and I sent him a list of like 20 things to pick up though ^_^; I wish they had them in LA!
Ohhhhh I kept this in mind SO MUCH! It’s hard because when you’re there, and everyone is dressed so lovely, you get sucked in and overwhelmed by wonderful senses. But really so much that’s “perfectly lovely” on the streets of Japan may be seen as somewhat more of a “statement” when worn at home, you know? So yes. I definitely thought “will I really wear this?” as I shopped this trip.
Actually I bought much more at UNIQLO on 5th (SoHo is a bloody madhouse & I found NOTHING there thank god more stores opened,) than I did in Japan. But to be fair, most of what I did like in Japan I already bought in NY (oxfords basically.) Still… wish at least 1 would open in DC :(
You have a fantastic taste in clothing Jenny! I really admire your style! And might I ask what camera you use? I’m still using a normal digicam but thinking about getting away from that and use one of those new system cams. I don’t want a professional cam but one which I can take better fotos for the blog :) I really like the one you use in your outfit shot!
I use an Olympus Pen EPL-2 and I absolutely adore it!!! Let me know if you have any questions about it :)
Omg, I love the heart pearl earrings. They’re so so so pretty! *__*
those earrings are so adoooorbs!
everything you bought are so cute~!
i also love how your hair looks in the photos. :)
I, too, am learning to buy unnecessary clothing. I’ve been donating like crazy and making sure all I have are just closet essentials. I love everything that you picked up!
Doesn’t it feel great to love EVERYTHING in your closet!? :D
Definitely people change with time, and in the last year your style has changed and become more about key items.
Also it’s good that you made your trip more about the moments than chasing around stuff, and I’m pretty sure it has to do about being a more personal traveling and about the company.
Everything is lovely and practical too! Also I’m amazed that you didn’t have trouble with japanese sizes, but still take care of yourself, don’t overdo it!
I’d like to know about how those “cool” tights work!
(If my comment it’s too personal, feel free to screen it.)
They have a finer denier so they feel cooler than regular tights. They fabric also absorb and releases to cool you down faster. Basically they’re “less hot” than traditional tights.
is the s-leg for slimming purpose? The dress really make it sweet. “some days you just feel you want to be really sweet” –> Is so true!
Nah, S-Leg isn’t for slimming, they’re just regular tights :)
I’m so jealoussssssss! I’m really liking the sweater! It’s simple but I think the material just made it a little bit more special! Would love to find something like that!
Seriously, those earrings are awesome! O_O
Cooling tights? As in they cool your legs? Is that even possible because that would be awesome.
The cher sweater looks really comfy and your coordi is so cute!
They use a finer denier (density of fibers) so they feel cooler than traditional tights plus have added desorption effect to cool you down faster. Basically they’re “less hot” than other tights rather than truly cool you. :)

Ah I always feel the need to buy things when im overseas. I make rushed decisions on purchases. It doesnt help that my bf is always like ‘just buy it; we’re not going to go back to this store’ =_=
Its good to hear you got some nice stressfree shopping done! Cute purchases :)
Rushed decisions, yes! Been soooo guilty of that on past trips.
Great gets, really love the color of the Cher sweater.
I bought the same dress from UNIQLO, except in red & beige. Since that’s a common style, I did try on quite a lot of similar ones , but UNIQLO’s fits best.
*high five dress twin(sorta)!*
Everything you bought is gorgeousss!
I think it’s awesome that you got to invest in better, more ‘key’ pieces this time around ♡ That pink cher sweater & the earrings are just lovely~
& pshhh about legs!! Yours are so tiny & perfect! *jelly*
tiny = short
Haha jk jk thank you dear :)
lovely items! You have such a good taste. Love the white, blue and red striped dress the most!
would love to see pictures how you wear it
I actually posted it on my twitter. REALLY casual look that day – http://twitter.com/#!/happiijenny/status/204045380231503872/photo/1
I never would’ve bought earrings like your Kastane ones, but seeing you wear them, I see how cute they really are!!
Haha your friend’s advice of getting a piece for days when you want to feel extra sweet is great!! I know *I* have days I wish I could dress extra girly/sweet/romantic, but these days my wardrobe doesn’t quite match it. Brilliant~~
They used to sell just tassel versions (which I thought I’d prefer) but now they only have pearl hearts and actually they’re pretty fun. Sometimes I hate long earrings with short hair & then sometimes I love it~~
The earrings are amazing! I think I feel the same way as you now maybe it`s from the Tim Gunn book? XD There are clothing pieces that are classics and I`ve been mroe careful about selecting ones that are just trend pieces
Oh did you read it too!? What did you think of it :)?
It`s really good! Made me rethink before I shop and now I haven`t spent money on random clothes I don`t need!! :D
The earrings are lovely! They are totally meant for you! I am in love with stripes too! The bf always stop me from getting anything in stripes. I actually got the same dress from Uniqlo but mine is in blue and white! They are so easy to match and so cute!
Ive been doing the same thing on trips…buying less..i mean I rather just get wat I REALLY WANT but lately ive been rather satisfied with my closet…and I dont want to just give a bunch of it away later when I decide i dont like chiffon anymore :T
:) I love these finds! i have many sweat/roomwear type outfits…i like to change almost as soon as i get home lol
the ducks are precious too!
OMG what are cooling tights…?? do they work?? I’m intrigued!
yeah i know that feeling…it feels really good to buy something you really love over just something ‘you might be able to wear’ or that you have something similar at home
