When the distance hurts

Friday, 7月/6日 [2007年] // 17 Comments

I’m waiting 10 minutes to call my Dad. I just got off the phone with my grandmother. My Mom is in the hospital. She had sudden seizures last night and is still confused and disoriented. They don’t know what’s wrong. I’m over 1,000 miles away and I have no idea what to do. I’m waiting for my Dad to get back to her hospital room so that I can try calling her. She might not recognize who I am though since it’s over the phone.

I’m so upset. I’m so scared. They don’t know why she’s having seizures or why they have left her disoriented. They said that it’s not normal and brought in a neurologist.

She’s been sick on again & off again for 3 months with bronchitis. However we were beginning to fear she might have emphysema or lung cancer (she’s a lifetime smoker.) Other than that my Mom’s been healthy… so this is such a shock. And I can’t do anything! I’m no where near ANY family.. any friends for that matter. Thank God I have Mike. But I feel I’m letting her down. I need to know if I should buy a plane ticket. It sucks!!! I can’t get any information .

I think you should buy a ticket, otherwise you might end up regretting it. I wish you and your family the best!

Yes, go buy a ticket and be with your mum. Having support is very important. I hope the doctors figure out why your mother has been having seizures and that the diagnosis will not be serious.

Oh my gosh, that’s horrible! I pray that your Mum is alright, Jen. I know how helpless you feel right now. A while ago my Grandma was in the hospital and we were a province away so we had no way to reach her. I hope things go ok, Jen

It must be painful to be in your situation, so I’m sorry to hear that. I hope that your mother will be feeling better soon and for you as well.

Oh no, I’m so sorry. I hope you find out news soon.

It always seems worse when you don’t know what’s happening; I hope when you get some news you’re mind will be put at rest.

Oh my goodness, I am so sorry. Go buy a plane ticket and go see her if you possibly can. You won’t regret it, in any case.

I’ve been in a similar situation before - it is weird, not knowing anything and not being able to do anything. It helped to find something productive to do, since doing anything else felt weird and wrong.

    I’m so sorry for you!

If anything happened to my grandparents, I couldn’t be there instantly for them. It’s a 2 hour drive. If I decide to move to another country, it’ll be even worse.

I hope your mother gets better. Keep us posted.

Oh dear…That’s not good. I hope she ends up ok. But being so far away and then not being able to go see her, well, bleh! It sucks cause if you’re any worrysome like me you’d end up burning a hole in your floor from all the pacing and your stuff would be in tatters from all the nervous wringing and squeezing. xD Yeah, I’m a terrible worry wart. My Gma went to the hospital this Jan and I totally flipped. I was shaking and pacing, I couldn’t keep my hands still or anything! X_x

So yeah. I hope your mommy is ok. er not hope….I DEMAND IT! Grr! Be ok! Hehe, no. I’ll hope real hard for her. And don’t stress yourself too much about it, k?
