I wanted to get some fresh and cool air into my lungs hoping it would help clear up the rest of my flu symptoms. The weather was perfect. Plenty of sun with cooling temperatures at night. When I’m camping I sometimes find it hard to believe that I enjoy it but I truly do. There’s this sense of “letting go” when I’m camping. Trivial things drift out of my mind and I can just be.

Camping Again http://sushi-cat.net/2014/07/21/camping-again-2/ http://sushi-cat.net/2014/07/21/camping-again-2/#comments Tue, 22 Jul 2014 00:15:39 +0000 jenny http://sushi-cat.net/?p=4729 I went camping again last weekend. It was hot & humid but the all natural repellent sprays I made with cinnamon and lavender kept most the bugs away.

Escaping Outdoors http://sushi-cat.net/2014/06/16/escaping-outdoors/ http://sushi-cat.net/2014/06/16/escaping-outdoors/#comments Tue, 17 Jun 2014 00:39:39 +0000 jenny http://sushi-cat.net/?p=4689 Getting back to work today was really hard after sleeping in a tent all weekend. I just wasn’t ready to return to concrete walls and train schedules. But yes, we have officially began our camping season! I’m not sure how many more times we’ll get to go back between now and October but hopefully at least a handful more.

Cooler Weather Camping http://sushi-cat.net/2013/09/15/cooler-weather-camping/ http://sushi-cat.net/2013/09/15/cooler-weather-camping/#comments Sun, 15 Sep 2013 19:58:57 +0000 jenny http://sushi-cat.net/?p=3882 Camping season ends with September so I headed out for one final camping weekend. Already the weather was cooler with lower 50°F’s. Bought extra wood to keep the fire warm. It was still enjoyable with the extra blankets packed. I actually slept through the night for once. It was the best sleep I had gotten in a while actually.

Decided to try baking crescent rolls over the fire after seeing it suggested online.
BRILLIANT. Seriously going to do this from now on! Great for breakfast especially with a little bit of honey. I meant to wrap a hot dog up in one for a pig in a blanket but I got too greedy and just ate them all with honey.

Camping Again http://sushi-cat.net/2013/08/17/camping-again/ http://sushi-cat.net/2013/08/17/camping-again/#comments Sat, 17 Aug 2013 19:38:51 +0000 jenny http://sushi-cat.net/?p=3669

Sometimes it just feels really great to get outside, enjoy each others’ company, and (mostly) unplug. This time I put together a “classic campfire” playlist that included Blue Öyster Cult, Carole King, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Kinks, Chicago, The Mama’s and The Papa’s, and others.

The temperatures have dropped this week so the fire served as both a stove and heater this time around. I packed sweaters and fuzzy socks as well. There’s a knitted blanket we always bring too. Its color is cream and brown and always reminds me of the outdoors.

I sometimes get asked what I wear when camping so I took this as I started packing. I brought a few more things than this but mainly this Free People Scottish Fringe jacket was most important item since it was really needed once the sun went down.

A Few New Capsules http://sushi-cat.net/2013/06/16/a-few-new-capsules/ http://sushi-cat.net/2013/06/16/a-few-new-capsules/#comments Mon, 17 Jun 2013 00:03:21 +0000 jenny http://sushi-cat.net/?p=3313 A few capsule wardrobes I posted recently on Tumblr.

Making the camping one helped motivate me to get the camping supplies together and start planning out weekends I can get out and get to it!

Today I was really motivated to reorganize my closet for summer. Get realistic about which skirts and tops I’d actually wear now that it’s summer hot day after day. Pack away some things for fall. Got a small pile of maybe 5 things together for the donation bin. Then I hit up my makeup stash. A few things I’ve hit pan on and were ready to be tossed. 7 items in total. When I’m feeling more purge-like I might go through it again and remove things I like but rarely use xP

Felt SO GOOD to walk into my closet at the end of the day :)

Mountain Escape http://sushi-cat.net/2012/07/19/mountain-escape/ http://sushi-cat.net/2012/07/19/mountain-escape/#comments Thu, 19 Jul 2012 21:16:11 +0000 jenny http://sushi-cat.net/2012/07/19/mountain-escape/ Camping last weekend in the mountains. Hiking, sleeping outdoors, roasting marshmallows, and relaxing despite vowing death after an hour’s hike to see a very tiny waterfall. Awful pay off, haha! lolol

I found myself missing it throughout the week still. Even the storms that passed through. Huddled in a dry tent, napping, with the radio set to light classical. A bit Wes Anderson’esque in that moment. lolol

It’s mid-July. Summer activities will be over soon :drops:

Outdoor Fashion Inspo http://sushi-cat.net/2012/07/13/outdoor-fashion-inspo/ http://sushi-cat.net/2012/07/13/outdoor-fashion-inspo/#comments Sat, 14 Jul 2012 02:43:41 +0000 jenny http://sushi-cat.net/2012/07/13/outdoor-fashion-inspo/ Some outdoor activities outfit inspo from Vintage Mix Girls because I’m off on a camping adventure now. :)

Planned it a few months back so when I saw this spread in 古着MIXガールズ I couldn’t have been more excited! It’s focus is on hiking, camping, picnics, and outdoor music festivals. I’m always so torn between dressing how I want and dressing for the environment. I obviously don’t want to bring my favorite things because I’ll be building campfires and sliding down rocky terrain. It’ll also be pretty crazy hot too with cooler nights. So this was helpful inspo.

Anyway, the inspiration~

Camping Weekend http://sushi-cat.net/2011/10/17/camping-weekend/ http://sushi-cat.net/2011/10/17/camping-weekend/#comments Tue, 18 Oct 2011 01:38:13 +0000 jenny http://sushi-cat.net/2011/10/17/camping-weekend/ I went camping this weekend at Shenandoah National Park! It’s a 3 hour drive and we couldn’t get a campsite reservation. But we packed up supplies anyway. Figured we could just do another day trip if all the “first come, first serve” sites were taken. Got there and even though all campsites were listed as “full” we were SUPER LUCKY and snagged the 1 and only cancellation opening! ::9: So we parked the car and walked to the site and set up camp! Later that morning we went out hiking.

There’s a nearby lodge resort. It’s in easy walking distance from the campsites. There’s actually a FANTASTIC restaurant there. Because we weren’t 100% sure we’d get a campsite we only brought snacks to eat. So we had large meals here. :hungry:

This was an EXCELLENT weekend. :deco3: I loved it so much. Even though that night it was extremely windy with temperatures in the low 40’s, :deco11: :deco13: we had a an amazing time just being out in the woods working hard to keep the fire burning bright to keep us warm. We talked and roasted marshmallows all night. And surprisingly the tent didn’t get blown down, not even once! lolol We saw other campers weren’t so lucky. And of course we saw tons of wildlife too. Deer and even bears! I hadn’t been camping since I was a kid. I would definitely do it again next year though~ … but maybe before the autumn temperatures set in, haha! :P
