Collagen Supplements Started

Monday January 03, 2011

So since Jan 1st I’ve started taking collagen supplements. First these jellies I got in Tokyo. “SHIBUGALゼリー” They taste OK, these are flavored peach. But chewing on a teabag sized collagen jelly is kinda bizarre. It’s not soft like other jellies, it’s a bit thick and tough, haahaa~ I only have a week of these left then I’ll move onto the multi-pill daily supplements.

Basically collagen is supposed to help with everything from clear skin to staying slim. An all over beauty gimmick. It comes in pill form, drink form, lotion form, many many forms! Does it work? Seems like some people think they do and others don’t. But I’m willing to give it a try. I love gimmicks I don’t care~ I love my cellulite roller, sleeping socks and sweat baths so this is just another to add to the pile. I have a slimming/firming gel with collagen in it that really shows effects plus an under-eye treatment with collagen that works magic (only it’s so $$$.) If I don’t notice any difference though I’ll stop after a month. There are US collagen supplement pills just like the DHC ones I have if I honestly do think it’s doing SOMETHING for me.

The Winter issue of Used Mix came today! *trumpets sounding*

It’s greeeeeeeeeeat~~~ I’m gonna scan in some of my favorites. I really wish this magazine was monthly & not quarterly Though it does make it difficult to not want to run out & buy fluffy sweaters with Nordic patterns.

Anyway~ I’m about to go use some of these things from that Loft Xmas Bath Bag I got for Christmas~~ It’s got these packets in it labeled “BATH CAVIAR!” Some sort of oil beads I imagine. Everything smells so strong & great!

Ohhh, that Used Mix cover is GLORIOUS *__* Something about it kinda reminds me of spring!
Thank you for enlightening me about collagen supplements too, haha~ I was curious what they were used for! XD Do tell if they work though~ I need all the ‘stay slim’ gimmicks I can get! XD

    • jenny says:

It is pretty Spring looking actually! Since it’s to cover all of winter I guess. I’ll let you know! I have my doubts but no harm in trying~~

  2. Becky says:

    Bath caviar! Too cute XD
I’ll be excited to see some scans from Used Mix ~~ Thank you in advance :)

  3. These packets look cute!

    Enjoy your bath :)

    XOXO

  4. Charlene says:

Ahhhhh ~ a bath sounds really good right :) Too bad I’m already in jammies, haha. I’ve never looked much into collegen stuff — Still feel so young ~ just thought it was for wrinkles. LOL Can’t wait to hear the results!

  5. Courtney says:

Looking forward to seeing how your collagen & bath salts turn out! ;) GAWD it’s been so long since I’ve looked through a J-Mag…I would love to see some scans whenever you post them! :)
*fluffy sweaters with nordic patterns WANT*
How ironic the small time of year I have money to spend you go on a shopping freeze. haha I love to live vicariously through your shopping exploits but I understand your resolution is gonna help you re-evaluate your habits! ‘ v ‘

    • jenny says:

The Bath Caviar turned out to be scent oil with glitter so when it melts the glitters mixes in :P!

Yea, I need to get OUT of the habit of spending just to spend, and that’s what it’s felt like lately. Instead of eating chocolate to feel “better” I’d buy anything I fancy in a way. Not good, not good.

      • katya says:

Where do you get THE MONEY? i mean i wish i COULD spend just to spend…spend just to spend does that even make sense…haha)

      • Courtney says:

Oh, that sounds so nice! *O*

Also, yeah…if you’re treating shopping like a pick-me-up, then I totally understand how things may get a little crazy. I’ve done that, too, and my wallet’s definitely been worse for the wear.

  6. Jenii says:

Waaaaaaaaaaah I miss soaking in the bathtub, no time these days and it succcccks DX Heheheh the bath caviar is a cute name for the product XD

From what I learned in beauty school, collagen is best absorbed WITHIN the body as opposed to without due to the size of the molecule being too big to get through the skin’s cells. Something like that. I think pills and ingestibles might be more effective but I honestly don’t know. GOOD LUCK THOUGH!

Frikkin Japan and the RIDICULOUSLY CUTE PACKAGING!! RAA!! I want to buy so many useless things because of how they are presented. Japan, doing advertising RIGHT!!

    • jenny says:

You’re all over the internet now! YAAY! Glad to have you back!!

Oh that’s good, that’s what I had read, about ingesting it! Aside from shooting it directly into your face of course (no thanks.)

  7. awesome, i never heard of Used Mix magazine before.. i really like the cover.. and I’m curious about those collagen supplements ~ do post your progress if it works or not.. hehe i might want to give it a shot later .. also how is that cellulite roller? hehe BATH CAVIAR.. i like the sound of that..

    • jenny says:

Yeah it’s a relatively new magazine/trend that’s getting more popular. Mixture of used street clothing with this season’s trendy looks.

I LOVE my cellulite roller! I have 2 but the small hand held rolling one is my favorite! It really keeps the swelling in my legs down as long as I use it every other day :D

  8. hiika says:

hahaha I remember seeing those collagen supplements in HK this past summer but I passed on them since it seemed not very reliable imo and I didn’t bring enough money with me at the time to buy it XDDD (the secret reason to not purchasing? hahaha) What slimming/firming gel do you use? I always want to try one on my wobbly thighs (BANE OF MY EXISTENCE) but I don’t want to spend like $40+ on a fat tube of something that doesn’t work =.= Just wondering, have you ever tried taking pre-natal vitamins? I’ve heard ppl say they do wonders for hair, skin, etc.

    • jenny says:

Yea I was surprised at how cheap some of the Japanese ones were but the meiji brand stuff is expensive there and here, so crazy.

I use the firming gel ” NIVEA’S My Silhouette! Firming Gel” and I’ve bought it every summer. I can tell a difference (I have really bad saddlebags on my thighs) and basically it tightens the skin up a bit and smoothes it out making it less jiggly LOL. It doesn’t work miracles but it’s enough that I rather use it than go without. Though you HAVE to use it religiously! If you skip a few days all the “effects” go too. It’s not $40 either and found all over like Target & CVS.

I haven’t taken those vitamins in particular (I know which ones you’re talking about too.) I do take an extra vitamin A supplement though with my multivitamin.

  9. Cindii says:

o0o can’t wait to hear about your results.

  10. Collagen jelly sounded yummy until you said it was thick and tough. :\ I’ve tried the powder version but stopped b/c I wasn’t really seeing results. Hope this works for you! :)

    • jenny says:

      It sounded yummy to me too. Peach flavored, can’t go wrong! BUT oh the texture~~~ Yea I’m glad I got these when I could, the jellies & DHC weren’t too pricey (except when imported.) ;_;

  11. Linda says:

zomggg those bath salts look so cuteeeeeeeeee! please take more pictures of your bath salts! :D

  12. miya says:

ooooer I am kinda really intrigued by these collagen supplements as I am also a sucker for beauty gimmicks!! Cant wait to hear your verdict!

  13. Genevieve says:

I used a bottle of that firming lotion once. It did nothing! But at least it works for you! :D
You’ll have to keep us updated on the collagen supplements; I’m always on the look- out for something new to try ;)

Always jealous you have a bathtub! XD

  14. Veronica says:

Ooh I’m interested to hear how your progress goes! I need to definitely take more vitamins besides iron anyway X[

Did you get them at a pharmacy in Tokyo? I spent so much time browsing through products I couldn’t understand LOL – so fun though

    • jenny says:

My grandmother would give you a long lecture on YES, WHY YOU DO NEED TO TAKE VITAMINS! I take Flintstones w/extra iron + an extra vitamin A pill + those Pearls Probiotic daily supplements + a plant-source enzyme digestive daily supplement. … bad digestion runs in my family, LOL. Like for real. My Dad is already where he can’t eat any seeds or nuts. I’M TRYING TO AVOID THAT FATE!

Yup I know I got the DHC at a Pharmacy and I think the Shibugal jellies too BUT that may be from a Donki, I forget. I got them the first day LOL.

  15. Sami says:

Ohh I had jelly things like these before, same experience I have to admit haha XD
I really want one of those rollers though! I am convinced they are miracles haha

    • jenny says:

Haahaa collagen in general must taste like fart.

Seriously I love my little cheap roller! If you use it regularly it does help combat swelling and you’re like “oooh looks so much tighter & slimmer, MUST NEVER STOP!”

  16. ShuShu says:

i’m really curious about your collagen supplements, too. if it works i think i’ll try it out, too :3

    ShuShu ♥

  17. Huynh says:

I’m curious about collagen supplements now. I always wanna try gimmicks but I don’t have a card to buy online stuff. I hope you have good results. :)

  18. Amelia says:

Very curious about the collagen supplements mostly because I’m kind of a sucker for gimmicks myself. And those bath salts are so cute. But do steam baths actually work? I’m thinking of buying some salts off ebay/sasa and I was wondering how effective they are.

    • jenny says:

I say go ahead and buy 1 or 2 (I highly recommend Bison brand.) And make sure you
1: can endure hot hot baths
2: Can sit in a hot tub for at least 30 minutes.
Basically you’re just working out your water weight by sweating. For me they definitely do make a difference (if the hot bath salt is good & not a weak brand.) Your body also burns a few extra calories trying to regulate your temperature than it would in a warm bath. But that’s not much, mostly you’re just trying to get a good sweat out of it. I swear by them but that doesn’t mean they’re for everybody so I say give it a try if you’re really curious! And do some leg massage while you’re in the sweat bath! Will help reduce swelling! Oh and bring some cool water to sip with you *helps detox you better.*

  19. Ruby says:

Yeah I’ve never been sure what’s a gimmick and what’s not, especially collagen pills so I’m really curious to hear whether you think they work. The models hair on the cover looks so good on her…I would not be able to do wild short hair like that! Envious~

  20. ミッカ says:

Ohh… all those bath things are making me remember I don’t have a bathtub anymore which I’m missing like crazy… :( Agh, all those relaxing baths… Hehe, I’m filled with healthy envy right now. :D Enjoy them! And I too thought collagen was just for wrinkles… please do tell if it works for you. Hope it does! :)

  21. Ooh, that under-eye treatment sounds tempting! I really need help with that… U.U

  22. Thanks for your comment, dear, your opinion will always be welcomed!

I love this scans they give many advices for my fashion life!

AH! I have a little doubt: It’s difficult to be a model in Japan? I know you have some friends there…
    Can you help me?

kisses and Really Good Day (or night) hahaha
    bye bye *(^ v ^ )v

  23. Vermillion says:

  30. Greeta says:

I use to take Meiji collagen powder it gave me the worse acne ever..huge and cystic! I heard it would go away after the first few months but it just got worse. I stuck it through for 6 months. I shall never take collagen ever again @_@

  31. cin says:

Oh! I though collagen was only for supple skin!!
    *goes to buy some supplements*
Gotta love gimmicks! I bought those nano care face steamer thingy the other day! Phil reckons it does nothing ^^

  32. lunameimei says:
