It’s Monday. I started my day with getting some real progress started with switching companies (but not jobs) this coming May. Thankfully I have the rest of April to use any extra leave I have so I’m taking a few days off for my birthday later this week. Also picked the cake I SWEAR I’M MAKING. This one. God it’s gonna be a disaster. Saturday is my actual birthday. Mike’s got some things planned for us. I like quiet birthdays. I’ve had parties in the past but I just always end up dipping-out early. Of my own parties… yeah. Then today was April Fool’s and I enjoyed losing some followers to the Mishapocalypse. I always assume it’s some poor unsuspecting Tumblr user who’s sitting around waiting for gyaru spam from me that is never coming.

Now I’m going to blog some of my playlists. I got a question on Tumblr asking if I could.

I have somewhat varied tastes. I try to feature music when I can but The Internet makes it a serious pain in the ass. I wish iTunes would just let you share for listening purposes. And a lot of my stuff is so old it’s not on soundcloud or anything.

So here is a ton of music, listed, from my playlists.

I also have playlists to match certain moods.

angsty. apathetic. badass. calm days. fuck em. love. pissy.

One’s like Jen’s 90’s are songs that I adored… in the 90’s. Obviously. Most of these were CDs I used to own that I burned to iTunes. Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, The Cardigans, The Pixies, Garbage, Weezer, The Rentals, Mono.

I have a Sleep one too that repeats the same 10 minute soundscape file 5 times. I use it religiously when travelling. It’s so hard for me to fall asleep somewhere unfamiliar. So I pop this on and I’m out. I don’t repeat it continuously so I don’t have to worry about the battery dying.

Anyway here are all of them currently on my phone.

This actually feels really personal to share. Because this shows how my brain works and what I feel in a sense through music.

Anyway, request filled I hope!

Requested Wardrobe from Tumblr http://sushi-cat.net/2013/03/20/requested-wardrobe-from-tumblr/ http://sushi-cat.net/2013/03/20/requested-wardrobe-from-tumblr/#comments Wed, 20 Mar 2013 21:11:36 +0000 jenny http://sushi-cat.net/?p=3052 Someone on my Tumblr asked what I’d bring on a week long trip to Paris so I made this capsule wardrobe for it. Thought I’d post it here too since I’ve got nothing else to blog about. I’ve never been to Paris (though I have been to Strasbourg, France) but in my mind thoughts drift to red lipstick, cat-eye liner, and up-do’s with ribbons.

paris inspired capsule wardrobe

full-res

Tops:

  • Madewell silk boy shirt
  • CDG play long tee
  • Madewell striped tee
  • APC knit sweater

Bottoms:

  • Madewell black skinnies
  • Maison de Reefur jean pencil skirt
  • Madewell black ruffle skirt
  • Maison de Reefur dress

Others:

  • Madewell trench coat
  • Maison de Reefur black flats
  • Repetto red ballet flats
  • Everlane tote
  • Madewell scarf
  • Maison de Reefur umbrella
  • Warm black tights
  • etc. accessories

I love bringing things that can easily layer. So the silk boy shirt can go under the sweater or even the CDG tee while the sweater can be added over the dress for a red skirt look. :)

Some accompanying music…

A Little Update http://sushi-cat.net/2013/02/13/a-little-update/ http://sushi-cat.net/2013/02/13/a-little-update/#comments Thu, 14 Feb 2013 02:43:12 +0000 jenny http://sushi-cat.net/?p=2247 I found the “new” or actually they say reintroduced Herbal Essences smooth and shine collection on Sunday. It looks to be their classic Rose Hip formula just reintroduced. Has that same amazing rose scent.

herbal essences

I recently finished up the shampoo & conditioner of Color Me Happy rose scented line. I didn’t get any amazing results but the rose scent was wonderful. Truthfully I don’t really find Herbal Essences to be a holy grail hair care solution for me. I get much better results from Burt’s Bees’ Very Voluminizing series. However sometimes I just don’t care and I just want my hair to smell like freakin’ roses!

And Also

bath salts

I also got in a big order of detoxing bath salts. Many I’ve used before and liked a lot while some I’m trying are new to me (-c_,-` )

This week I’ve spent most of my time marathoning episodes of Supernatural. I’ll probably be able to finish up through season 4 tonight. It’s sort of strange coming into a fandom so, so late in the series. But also it’s magnificent because I always have something to be excited about! Well, until I’m caught up then I’ll have to deal with the torture of waiting week to week. I accredit my Tumblr dash to getting me to finally give the show a chance. So many people who watch other shows I love (Doctor Who, Sherlock, Community) were also blogging Supernatural stuff like craaaaazy.

I’m trying to do my best to stay away from spoilers. And to be honest (I know, usually I talk about TV on my Tumblr but anyway) I’ll need more shows to be excited about since so many of my favorites are ending.

OK here are two songs I’ve been obsessed with this past two weeks!

Rinka Maison de Reefur Trench http://sushi-cat.net/2012/08/20/rinka-maison-de-reefur-trench/ http://sushi-cat.net/2012/08/20/rinka-maison-de-reefur-trench/#comments Tue, 21 Aug 2012 02:26:57 +0000 jenny http://sushi-cat.net/2012/08/20/rinka-maison-de-reefur-trench/ Today I came home to the latest issue of Sweet waiting for me. It features Rinka in “the trench” for autumn. It’s from Maison de Reefur.

There’s a new video on her blog as well. A really vaudeville-quirky-french-aesthetic short for the launch of the new trench coat.

I thought I’d share a few of my favorite songs that sort of match this post’s “theme.”

Lullatone “Pajama-pop” http://sushi-cat.net/2012/02/21/lullatone-pajama-pop/ http://sushi-cat.net/2012/02/21/lullatone-pajama-pop/#comments Wed, 22 Feb 2012 03:00:49 +0000 jenny http://sushi-cat.net/2012/02/21/lullatone-pajama-pop/ So Cin blogged about Lullatone ages ago. :deco2: Since then, I admit, I had been visiting the website periodically to listen to the music on my iPhone. Finally I remembered while at home the other night and got to purchasing many of the albums. The next day I wake up to find an email thanking me for purchasing so many albums and inviting me to download some bonus songs free of charge! :deco9: Well that was just awesome. So I wrote up this entry :)

For me their music is perfect for playing while at work or commuting on the train. Anytime really when I need a break from my usual stuff and just want to enjoy the world around me. They’re sorta little soundtracks to life. So here are some links and shared albums! :deco2:

Hello, we are Lullatone.
We make music and hang out at the park, like all of the time!

Lullatone is a popular music group based in Nagoya, Japan, whose music is characterized by an innocent, child-like quality and spare, lo-fi sounds. Although the group refers to their style of music as “pajama-pop”, it is commonly included in such musical subgenres as Twee pop, Indie pop and Electronica. It draws influence from such diverse sources as Bossa Nova, French pop music of the 1960s, children’s songs and Musique concrète.

Ramblings About Inspiration http://sushi-cat.net/2011/08/29/ramblings-about-inspiration/ http://sushi-cat.net/2011/08/29/ramblings-about-inspiration/#comments Tue, 30 Aug 2011 02:30:51 +0000 jenny http://sushi-cat.net/2011/08/29/ramblings-about-inspiration/

Today I was thinking about inspiration. :deco3:
This weekend I opened up my Rinka photo books. Especially “Love Myself” from 2009. It’s so beautifully done and full of daily life inspiration. It seems superficial on the surface; clothes, makeup, recipes… :deco13: but to me it really churns up feelings of inspiration and aspirations throughout all aspects of my daily life. :deco2:

Inspiration to me is a 2-way street. :deco8: Though it can find me on its own, I can also hunt it down! :deco3: And neither is a guarantee of course. I feel thankful I’m not some designer/artist who depends on inspiration for a paycheck. Sure I’m a Web Developer and I do design things, but mostly I’m doing continual work or server administration. :ok: So for me I focus on the search for inspiration in my non-work life.

That amazing feeling like Christmas morning! :deco15: Happiness and anticipation! Suddenly you have all these options you want to try or goals you want to meet. I feel somewhat invincible with so much to look forward to.

Well not all inspo is so lasting. Mostly I find the tiny blips. The day to day inspiration. But sometimes I’m struck with it more thoroughly and it can inspire real changes. :deco8:

Like with used mix style. :deco2: Sure, the look and shops have been there for a long time. And I had purchased a couple of Seda & PS magazines back in 2008. They were nice but not monumental. :deco13: But last summer when I stumbled upon Vintage Mix Girls [古着MIXガールズ] and saw the spread of Yukako (the reason I bought it,) I can remember the whole moment! :deco9: I came upon it at a time I was feeling stuck. :deco13: Wanting a change but not sure what or how; unable to contextualize exactly what I was feeling or needing. I know, it’s just a magazine! :dizzy: But to me it was this fixed point that struck like lightning. I flipped through it nonstop from the moment I found it. At the store, at the hotel, on the plane home, then AT HOME and … throughout the year… even a few weeks ago. I found new inspiration I ran and scanned in for my phone. Things that maybe didn’t feel exactly for me last year but do now. :deco8:

I feel the need to nurture my inspired-side a bit more lately. This summer has been particularly busy/stressful/what-have-you and taking time to discover & feel inspired is just something I’ve pushed aside. :drops: It gives me something to smile about & look forward to throughout the day. Not to say I’m completely uninspired, but I’m definitely feeling hungry for more! So it’s time to hunt down & consume!!

Romeo N Juliet – Clazziquai

Was listening to this while typing.
I found this song, as well as many others from Clazziquai and FreeTempo, last year around the same time. It’s sorta nostalgic but also I still listen to these songs constantly almost daily :deco10:

Food Snaps & Music http://sushi-cat.net/2011/07/29/food-snaps-music/ http://sushi-cat.net/2011/07/29/food-snaps-music/#comments Sat, 30 Jul 2011 01:18:48 +0000 jenny http://sushi-cat.net/2011/07/29/food-snaps-music/

Busy week. Weird stuff~ but it’s Friday :ok:
I’ve had a headache since… hmm… 2:00 this afternoon. Culmination of work/life stress from previous days I assume. So I’m just relaxing. :deco8: I’m off to take a :bath: soon. :deco10:

I haven’t gotten to do much of anything interesting lately but last week I did at least manage to get out for a nice dinner after work one night! Then a light lunch during the weekend.

Food Snaps :hungry:

Clyde’s Twin Oak’s Lodge
One of my favorite places :deco8:

I ordered this appetizer for the first time. It’s called The Carolina Mason Jar. It’s a mason jar filled with layers of baked Mac & Cheese, pulled pork, coleslaw and topped with fried onions. HAHAHA it’s southern suicide! :ok: It tasted amazing but didn’t settle well with my crab cake order. Bad combination choices on my part.

Thai summer rolls.
This was perfect for the insane heat this weekend. :)

Hamburgers from last night.

The steaks meant for dinner were still frozen so we ran out to a local place and grabbed some sliders (mini burgers.) These are very DOWN HOME COOKING style. From an ugly restaurant with AMAZING food. My favorite type of place to be frank~

Some Music: Inna Modja
I know I don’t often post music or videos but I’m playing them nonstop. Music getting me through the week! :deco8:

This first video is “French Cancan” and is quite beautiful eyecandy. :make:

The next is “Mister H.” Mister H is the first song I heard about a year ago. :ok:
I’ve been on the hunt for it ever since. :x
Thankfully I finally have the whole album!
:celebrate:

I finally have a 3-day weekend planned! :deco8:
A mini break hopefully full of quite adventure and hearty breakfasts :). Just gotta get through the next week or so , ho ho ho :)
