Basically just ranting
Sunday February 03, 2008
In the past 6 months my right eye’s vision in contacts has been getting fuzzier & fuzzier, so I went to get them checked out today. Figured I’d walk away with a stronger right-eye prescription; that’s all. Wrong. My prescription is the same, but I now have astigmatism in my right eye. This sucks because, even though they DO make astigmatism contacts, there are very few choices for my high strength prescription (-9.00). *saaaaaad faaaaaaaaace* So in a week I’ll get a trial pair and begin the numerous follow ups to see if they work, blah blah blah… The only other alternative (and the one they keep pushing on me) is to wear my glasses 24/7 from now on. (ew…. sorry, but please no thank you!) If that’s the solution then I’ll look into Lasik to see if I’m a candidate. Sigh~ my doctor didn’t seem very confident about this whole thing :(.
The other craptastic thing is that thanks to this my exam was more expensive and the contacts are about double in price than I used to pay (even on 1-800-contacts.)
I hate going to the doctors. Not because it’s “the doctor’s.” But because I hate weeks of trial and error. It’s always like this. always. It’s expensive and time consuming and disappointing. I’m actually really upset about this, but I know I’ll be better tomorrow and a little more optimistic and put my hope into these new contacts until they eventually prove to NOT be a solution and I can get all emo over the next “solution.” hahahah   I just dread the thought of wearing glasses 24/7 again. I know lots of people do it, but I’m sorry. I don’t feel confident in glasses. I enjoy wearing mine every other day, but the thought of having no alternate is stifling. I’ve worn glasses since 1st grade, got contacts in 8th grade… I just want to have A CHOICE.

A similar happened to me when I went to the Optometrists as well. I felt my left eye was going funny lately and I thought I just needed a stronger prescription but I had high introcular pressure and it was my right eye which was worst than my left eye 0_o;
Yeh, the trial and error process really sucks. I hope it all goes by real quickly and these new contacts work. I know what you mean about feeling not as confident wearing glasses. I always feel more vulnerable, but contacts are so expensive I have to be very picky when to wear them -_-;; -
Is that picture of you?? If so, you look SO SO SO kawaii in your glasses! ^ – ^ But I know what you mean about having a choice…it alway feels better that way.
-
oh no!
i think glasses are awesome though
but i’ve been really lucky and have never needed glasses
i hope it turns out ok..
lasik is laser surgery right
sounds intense! -
Aww, that really sucks. I need to make an appointment to get my eyes checked, too. 0_o; I think I might need a slightly stronger prescription than I have. I just hate the Optometrist that I go to, ughhh~ Hopefully you can find some solution soon. Trial and error is the worst.
-
i agree, you look CHOU KAWAII with glasses! :D that type/model of glasses suits you!
and yes, i understand how you feel on going to doctors, the pain of going through trial n errors, stupid exams (while doing those, you’re wondering whether they’ll really get to the source of problem n treat it etc etc)
blah blah -_-hope you’re feeling better by now jenn!
-
I have that too… but since i’ve been wearing glasses most of my life i’m more used to seeing myself with glasses on… but…
You look good with or without glasses Jen D:
Don’t worry too much~ they didn’t use to have contacts for astigmatism before so maybe one day they can make better ones which you can use…i don’t think i’m helping but cheer up! surfing cats! :D
-
I where glasses 24/7 except when I go out on formal occasions and such. Nowadays I really have to force myself to wear my glasses so I know exactly how you’re feeling :( I hope the trial contacts work so you don’t have to wear glasses all the time! Urgh, don’t you hate it when it rains and you have to use your fingers like a windscreen wiper? Haha~
-
I wear my glasses all the time and I’m actually quite terrified of contacts ^^; sticking something onto my eyes doesn’t sound too appealing to me. But I look weird without the glasses anyway so it’s all fine ^^
I understand the thing about change though. still, I think you are probably the type that looks really cute in glasses, so whatever happens it will be all good and maybe the new contacts are going to work, so don’t worry too much about it ^^ -
You look adorable in the glasses!!!!! ^^
I think it’s you in the picture anyway hehe
I wear glasses too but only sometimes cuz I’m lazy but lucky for me my eyes aren’t that bad (-0.75 and -0.5)… yet? dunno hehe but I understand the change thing.. Like you have a variety to suit your mood~ But if Lasik means laser surgery.. it sounds scary for me..
But I hate trial and error stuff with doctors.. I had this virus thing when I was 15 and the doctors just kept taking blood tests but ended up with no solution and I got better by myself…
Haha I wrote a long comment
Hope you feel better soon~ -
Yeah, my sister has astigmatism in her right eye and the contacts for it is so freaking expensive. @_@
As for Lasik, I was reading up on it and I read that if you’ve been wearing contacts for years, then you have to stop and glasses for a while in order for your eyeballs to return to its normal shape for the procedure.
And yeah, it may not sound like it, but a 24 year old is still young in the world of eyeballs and still. Some 24’s eyeballs are still shaping and so if the procedure is done, your eyeball may still continue to change shape and even undo the procedure, leading to a waste of money and might damage your eyesight.
But I’m sure new contacts will come out and the prices will go down some bits. My sister said that they’re a bit cheaper than what she used to pay for them a while ago.

Eww, I underststand the feeling of being pushed into doing something, and not having an alternative. I have always had perfect vision and I thank God for that! I’m really impatient so I would be able to put in lenses, and glasses would drive me mad … hope you find a pair that you like soon or you’re at least a candidate for lasic, I’ve heard they work quite well :)
-
I know how you feel. I can’t even get contacts cause it would be too expensive.. One eye has astigmatism the other regular, one eye is near sighted the other far. Gosh it’s annoying.. The only good thing is I don’t always have to wear my glasses. I can see, but sometimes I need them in school to see the board..
-
Ga…hopefully, you’ll land on a good pair that are comfortable and such. I’ve found that as long as Ciba makes my contacts, it feels ok. If it’s like Bausch & Lomb or such, my eyes are like WTF?! Weird…
Aside…glasses are a nice alternative when it can be. I find I can’t really wear make up when I do wear glasses though…mebee I’m retarded?
-
I always wanted glasses when I was a kid but then my sister got them about five years ago and I realised I couldn’t cope with having them at all. So I can totally see why you don’t want to wear your glasses all the time. I don’t know anything about contacts tho… I never thought I’d handle them well – sticking your finger in your eye … ;)
The damn doctors are so crap! I hate seeing them too cos they never give you a straight answer. Mine is useless.
-
I wear contacts as well and they truly have saved my life from 24/7 glasses.. I know the trial & error period sucks, but when you finally get the ones you want and everything’s super-clear then it’s all worth it :)
Laser surgery is supposed to be really quick and painless, so that’s a good choice as well. I’m still waiting for the whole “growing period” to be over so I can get it. -
It’s hard to have bad eyesight :[ I also have -9.00 *snifff* I hope the new lenses suit you and ou don’t have trouble with it anymore. Hahah I don’t want to back to glasses either … ok I have mine on in the weekends when I’m at home, but usually I just wear my contacts XD *kyaaaa*
-
Astigmatism. DD: I have one too… in my right eye. O_O;;
I rarely wear my contacts because I tear way too much even though I’ve had them for more than a year. O_O;; So I stick to glasses…
-
I really hope your contacts work out for you!!! Glasses can be cute, but it’s hard to see as well in them and it can be really upsetting. I didn’t mind wearing glasses that much when I was young and my prescription wasn’t that bad, but once it started to get high it was so much worse!
I had Lasik and it was a good choice for me, but it is a hard one to make and can be tricky with a high prescription.
-
i hope the contacts work out! if not, you look totally adorable in yoru glasses anyway :D
-
I feel sorry that you have to deal with all this check-ups for your eye.
I wish your eye get better! :) but hey, I see that you are still taking great pictures! Continue the good work!

I have an astigmatism. They’re such a pain. I can never tell what’s going on when I’m driving and my glasses don’t even help. :( I just kinda drive real slow when I’m turning into traffic and squint, haha. SAFE.

Aw =(
I don’t know what it feels like to wear glasses because I don’t wear them. I think I sort’ve need glasses though, because I have pretty bad eyesight. I love when people wear glasses! It looks natural and you look more intelligent ^^ hehehe. But what is “astigmatism” ? I have no idea what that is.
It’s horrible not to have a choice, but on the bright side, wearing glases is much more comfortable! You don’t have to spend time cleaning it with alcohol or rinsing it, and it makes you less dizzy than contacts…
