Hello Montreal

Monday July 08, 2013

I’m back from Quebec! It was a really great trip and I was glad to update my instagram & tumblr with some photos in between WiFi cafes. We drove and going through immigration via car was interesting to say the least. And quick. And preferred haha :) And I learned quite a bit of French during the trip which I’m grateful for as well. Immersion therapy.

Montreal

We stayed overnight in Montreal at the Auberge du Vieux-Port before driving onwards.
Fantastic boutique hotel with great service especially with valet. WiFi, luxury bathrooms, good location, A++ A/C too since it was quite hot during my trip.

    Really nice pictures!

I recognize all of the places from your pictures! Looks like you visited mostly the Old Montreal since that’s where your hotel was, but it’s a beautiful area nonetheless.
I’m glad you enjoyed your trip!

Yeah only there 1 night before driving to Quebec City for a longer stay :)

Though we did get out to the Chinatown area and then boutique shopping as well as into some of the innercity (I guess it would be called) with bigger shopping retailers. But I didn’t take any photos of it =Y

You take such wonderful photos! I’m glad you liked it there – I was there a few weeks ago and am so in love with the city :)

    • jenny says:

Thank you, thank you! Hope you didn’t get rained on. I was hearing it’s been rainy there a lot this summer from all the people :)

What a great destination! The French feel without having to fly to Paris. I love the hotel you stayed in. It looks so cozy, like it’s actually someone’s home rather than a hotel. Or maybe I just need to check into better hotels lol. Love your pictures!

    • jenny says:

Yeah “boutique” hotels always have that home feeling I’ve become quite addicted to booking at them instead when I can :D

Montreal looks very nice. Lovely photos.

    Welcome backkkkk!
Did you bring back any Canadian stuff?

    • jenny says:

A few things. Some souvenir teas & macarons to enjoy. A magnet for my fridge (collection of travel magnets) a super soft tee from Canada’s Old Navy (haha I never thought that they’d of course carry Canada shirts while ours always has USA ones.) Oh and some rose & raspberry jam too. Areo bars too since they don’t sell them here outside of import sections. Mostly our stuff is the same though so I wasn’t on the hunt for anything in particular :)

For some reason I was really hoping you’d mention something maple syrup related… I don’t know why!

But then like you said I guess it’ll be easy to get in the US too!

        • jenny says:

Oh!!! Well the tea is maple blueberry? Lol. Maple syrup sales are huge there but I don’t eat pure maple syrup (I stick to sugar free only) so I didn’t buy any because I knew I’d never use it =¥

Such a nice place to travel. Hope to read more on your next post.

such a fun trip! how bad was the drive, I’m so impatient! what suddenly was made you do “yeah montreal!” I always wanted to go but airfare IS A DISASTER its cheaper to go to france!

    • jenny says:

Mike & I both like road trips so it probably didn’t seem bad for us compared to those who prefer to fly :) The drive there went quickly and it gave us opportunities to stop along the way and visit supermarkets, etc. :D

I’ve wanted to visit Montreal for ever since I was REALLY into hockey in high school and I’d see Montreal in the backdrop when the Canadiens would play and it LOOKED SO BEAUTIFUL. Decided to go this year because I really, really wanted to fly to Europe again but I only had 2 days of vacation time saved up because of some job changes so I had to stay state-side. This definitely did not disappoint.

  11. Milly says:

Wow, the hotel looks really cool! I’m really loving the brick walls! It’s a good thing you went when it’s nice and sunny! The pictures look really nice :)

  12. Selvinas says:

Is the culture and architecture there very different compared to where you live?

    • jenny says:

The best answer is yes & no. DC is modeled a lot after a European city more than any other US city so we have some of that architecture here but then again Quebec is 100% French first which we don’t have but then we share mostly the same foods too but not everything like poutine. It’s a little yes & no :)

  13. Maikue says:

Its great to see you images. They’re always lovely and beautiful! I also want to see Montreal one day!

  14. Angel says:

Your photos are always so beautiful and vibrant! are you still using the epl2 to take photos?

  15. Sidney says:

how do you always go on such perfect vacations? i swear you have a PA who picks out these amazing locations for you to go to and stay at. AMAZING.

  16. Carmen says:

Your pictures really make me want to go visit Quebec!! Haven’t ever been there even though I’m from Canada LOL. It’s easy to crave travelling abroad as opposed to within own country :P

  17. Tiffany says:

Ahhhhh OMG. I can’t believe you came to Montreal!!! (I was busy and didn’t read your blog for a bit) I’m glad you went to the Old Port, it’s one of the best touristic places.

Did you ever go into the downtown’s underground mall? :) If not, you should next time!

  18. Amanda says:
