Hurricane Katrina

6:35 update: The bands are beginning to pass over with some very high winds. There’s some lightening so I’m going to shut down my PC now. The hurricane is expected to hit us tomorrow afternoon. Here is a photo I took of a hurricane band passing over.

We are preparing for the worst here just to be safe.
My parents live on the coast. They have evacuated to the northeast. This hurricane is at this time 175 mph in strength, category 5. Category 5 is the highest category with winds at 155+. Here is the weather channel maps. My parents have never evacuated before. Our house is over 150 years old so it’s been through a lot of hurricanes. I think they are worried and a little too old to be dealing with all the damage head on. They went with my grandparents to my uncle’s house. I thought they were going to evacuate to here but my Mom laughed at me and told me to turn on the TV. She called & woke me at 8:00am today.
Anyway~ so I might not be on if power goes out. It can take up to a week to get power back if the damage is severe. I want to wish everyone else on the Gulf Coast well. Please stay safe!!!

Oh my goodness~ that’s horrible. Thank God we don’t get such severe weather like that in Canada. I hope you and your family are safe, Jen. Be careful!!!
wouh…. hurricanes, ive never been in a hurricane. Try to stay safe! now im worried… Jen when its over you have to put a post up right away so I don’t worry to death. ok?

I hope your parents don’t have much damage to deal with when they return home. Stay safe and hopefully your power won’t go out…such a pain. XD
Thank gosh living on the west coast means not having to deal with those icky hurricanes and tornadoes. I hope your parents and the house will be safe!
oh god, i’ve never been through any severe weather problems, I can’t even imagine if i lived close to the effected area…well, I REALLY wish your family safe, stay in the basement or something? I don’t know, i have no experience…your house is so ancient! wow~ Be careful!~
I live in Pensacola and I know what youre going through, I hope you wont get a lot of damage to your house or anything else. Ive read your website for a while and I just hope you stay safe.
Omg, you are living where near that hurricane is coming towards. I hope you are gonna be okay. I saw it on the news. Cause we are gonna get effects of the storm (i live in houston) but not as bad as you guys.
