Past Couple of Days Through Snaps

Tuesday February 22, 2011

Some snaps from the past couple of days… :deco12:

Restaurant we sometimes stop at for a cheap lunch, Rolls ‘n Rice added Bibimbap to their menu. It’s quite good and a rather large amount for a pretty affordable price ($7.) The sauces are excellent. I’ve had bibimbap at a few other places but will gladly be re-ordering this again. Only wish they’d use cabbage instead of lettuce but it’s because I’m a cabbage whore :?: They’ve been adding a bunch of on-the-fly specials to their menu which is always fun to see each visit!

Chicken Pot Pie for lunch at Copper Canyon. I usually get the crab cakes or ribs or chicken… :deco9: but I felt like something really to warm me up because it was raining & super cold. :hungry:
As always, delicious~~~ especially with a side of their corn bread. I ordered a hot drink too made with apple cider, peach schnapps, and makers mark whiskey… to warm me up… and make me tipsy. I don’t know why I ordered it, :deco13: I don’t really drink much and probably should have gone with a more tame Irish coffee drink, hahaaa. lolol lolol

Ran to the local Japanese market to get more diet apple vinegar drink and thankfully they had 2 bottles left. ::9: It either sells out or they don’t get it in very often because it’ll disappear for weeks at a time. :drops: So I always buy 2 or more.

りんごはちみつ黒酢ダイエットストレート
Apple Honey Vinegar Diet Straight Drink
This is actually what I tend to drink during sweat baths. It’s not so pleasant at first, but then you begin to crave it to settle your stomach over a heavy meal. Unlike most “apple vinegar” recommended for dieting, this is a ready-to-drink pre-mixed version. It’s already diluted for consumption.

I’m still addicted to Starbuck’s VIA. I used to only drink decaf but Mike tried 3 times to pick me up some more and kept getting the wrong non-decaf type!! :?: It’s OK, I’ll drink them anyway. :deco3: It’s just that caffeine can sometimes make me very moody so I try to avoid it as much as possible. :drops: I miss the old VIA boxes though. I feel these are extremely wasteful since the packets are half the size of the stupid box!

Ah yea, in case you’re wondering I’ve been enjoying using the ShakeItPhoto app for daily life photos!

  3. Rubi says:

Yummmm! I love posts about food LOL
I have to agree, i am a cabbage whore too!! haha
I wonder why my ipod 4G takes such shitty pics, maybe this app helps!

  4. Maris says:

Aww. I love it when people like posting nice pictures of their food. Makes me want to try new ones!! Or just eat everything I see =S

  5. Thao says:

Yummmm food looks so good. Definitely in the mood for some chicken pot pie right now. Great for cold weather!

Oooh shake it like a polaroid picture! If I had an iphone, I definitely be investing that 99c for it. :)

  6. Michelle says:

I am now hungry. LOL! The only Japanese market that is near me is Mitsuwa. Have you heard of it? I wanted to pick up bath salts, but…I don’t even think they sell it there. :|

The food photos are so delicious! Yum!! :)

    • jenny says:

I’ve definitely heard of it! Wish they had more in the US :( closest one to me is like a 4 hour drive ;_; though I’m surprised they don’t carry bath salts?? I know they (or at least some) carry popular makeup like Dolly Wink and magazines x_x;;; *wants

  7. Charlene says:

Bibimbap ~ oh you make my tummy super jealous!! Been craving me some lettuce wraps too yummm. And that pot pie looks delish! I also felt a need for some warm food today. This weather is insane :(

Hey! Just a thought! are you going to the Sakura Matsuri this year? I had put in a time off request for the festival day. :3

    • jenny says:

I was actually thinking about the Matsuri recently! I’m not sure, as far as I know I’ll be here come April. I hate how unpredictable the weather is that time of year so I probably won’t know until closer to the date, but I think I’d like to go to the actual festival. I haven’t been to the Festival (only gone on non-fest days) in about 4 years! Last time I went it was HORRIBLEEEEEEEEEEEE! Freezing and raining & windy! Just miserable! I want to go on a LOVELY DAY for once LOL! You going I assume?

      • Charlene says:

I’ve never been to the festival portion of it myself! The few times I went just to see the trees it was either super windy or the blossoms all fell after the rain! Hopefully this year is much better :( If you go to the festival, you should let me know cause I have no idea if I’m really going with anyone yet and I thought of you. :3

  8. Nami says:

I wonder if we have those starbucks VIA’s here as well. We only have one Starbucks. ONE. In the capital. Of my country. Yeah, compare that to any big city like London, Paris and all the cities in America and we’re such a joke hahaha.
I love the effect that app gives by the way :)

    • jenny says:

Hum I dunno. I know they’re sold in Japan’s Starbucks and they’re pretty popular here too. Ah only 1 Starbucks ;_; I’m sorry. There’s still none in the town I grew up in lol. There’s one about 20 minutes outside of it though. It’s funny to me because here they are everywhere. Within minutes of each other and they’re all always busy. Tis crazy.

      • Nami says:

Haha always when I visit Paris or London I see one on pretty much every corner! I really like their frappuccino. Here we have two in the airport now but it’s not a place I come frequently (you have to take a car or train). And there’s one on the central station but I never really go there either haha so the Starbucks here are quite out of my way. XD

  9. waaahhh this post made me hungry ; x ;
i have never tried bibimbap before~ but i really want to♥
    it looks so yummy~!!
    && omg, i love chicken pot pies ^ o ^

    • jenny says:

Oh really?! I think you’d love it! Actually it’s something I think lots of people would like! Well Mike likes it ok but he hates vegetables, ugh, so he usually gets beef bulgogi or fried rice ;(

  10. Charlene says:

    Oh and

    http://en.kenko.com/shop/en-us/commodity/E121643H/

I don’t know what you pay for them at the market and I don’t know much about the money conversions, but I saw it on this website.

Just in case next time they aren’t there for you??? Lol.

  11. Veronica says:

Great post! I love your cam quality! Woohoo

  12. Cora says:

I live in Taiwan and have not heard the Chicken Pot Pie before, get an eyeful this morning :) It looks very yummy!

  13. Melissy ♥ says:

    Yumm!! XD
I love making bibimbap at home using leftovers and the red gochujang~ Especially when I’ve got no apetite, bring out the bibimbap! LOL.
Sighh, love the iPhone camera snaps you take! ^__^ Makes me wanna get one too. Nuuu~ XD

  14. micro says:

Mmm, it’s been a while since my last chicken pot pie… College, why do you separate me from what I need!

    If you’re ever in the area, there’s a place on, I think, 20th & L NW ambiguously called Bibimbop, I believe. It’s a build-your-own sort of deal, but I liked it. :)

What are the effects of the apple-vinegar juice? Is it a digestive aid (I need those, being of poor stomach :( ) or is it “diet” because of low calories…?

I wonder if they have it at the Asian market near here~

    • jenny says:

Ah thank you! I hadn’t heard of a make your own type bibimbap place in the area. I’ll google for it! I used to live near a make your own gumbo. Having that control is intoxicating!

I’d google apple vinegar diet to read about what it claims apple vinegar can do as a fad diet choice. But I drink it mostly for the digestive aid reason. It calms my stomach after eating too oily or sugary foods. My stomach is super challenged as well. 1 little shift and it’s the end of the world!

  15. Helen says:

    How are you still so skinny ;__;
I GAIN weight from eating HEALTHY foods OTL; not going to even mention how much I gain from eating all the foods you had, which are all of my favorites ):
    Ahh, Jenny is so lucky~

    • jenny says:

If it helps I gained 1.5 pounds since last week lol. I’m not some hyper metabolism person. So what I’ll do now is not eat such heavy foods for the next week and it’ll even me back out ;). I don’t eat like this all the time ;P

  16. Omg, I’m hungry now… D: I haven’t had bibimbap in so long!

  17. Ash says:

I love bibimbap but seriously? lettuce instead of cabbage? This just seems so wrong to me~

  18. sayablack says:

Such a cuuute blog you have!!
Thnx for your lovely comment on my blog

  19. Devon says:

Oh I love Rolls ‘n Rice! It’s been a little while since I’ve been there though, didn’t know they added bibimbap to the menu! :O

I’ve gotta go back soon to try it! :D

    • jenny says:

Yeah I hadn’t been there in a while either, last time I was in the area I went to the newly opened Matchbox Pizzeria (avoid, avoid, pizza does not settle well, lool.)

  20. mishi says:

    Yummy food photos =9

You know, I’ve never had bibimbap before… but it always looks so interesting D:

    • jenny says:

It’s pretty non-exotic tasting actually. It’s really simple, beef (or tofu or whatever) on rice with carrots, bean sprouts, lettuce/cabbage, mushrooms, cucumbers and what not. Comes with delicious special rich soy or spicy sauce!!

  21. Yuri says:

I have a question, and I may sound stupid for asking, but what is Apple Honey Vinegar Diet Straight Drink? Is it like, apple, honey & vinegar?

  22. Tori says:

I love these photos~ you’re so lucky you live close to a decent Japanese market! I think I’d be willing to try that diet apple vinegar drink, haha~

  23. Linda says:

oh my gawddd that is awesome quality! :D
and your food pictures look so delicious~~~

  24. Cindii says:

I’ve never really been a fan of bibimbap, but glad you have a place to go and enjoy some!! I prefer bulgogi. NOM NOM NOM!! That pie looks good too.

  25. Da says:

hmm does the apple vinegar really work? i need to lose 5lbs by summer lol…

  26. miya says:

yummmmmm. you just made me very hungry.

  27. lissy says:

mmm bibimbap, i love that *_*

  28. Sara Mari says:

I knew a person who kept pushing vinegar drinks on me in Japan to make me more healthy, at first they are so off putting then you actually like them haha

    • jenny says:

Yes! At first I bought this bc it was recommended in so many magazines and I was very 0_0 WTF have I done?! But then i found myself craving more after I finished my first carton.

  29. I love comment boxes like yours. So much easier to use than others :D. Bibimbap is like one of my favourite things to order! Although it has to be Dolsot Bibimbap. And Starbucks – life’s necessity! Loving your blog :D

  30. Amelia says:

I’m so hungry after seeing these pictures. Also hello there cabbage lover

  31. Ys says:

Ooh that pie looks yummy… well a veggie version for me but you know what I mean ;) I love pastry mmmmm.

  32. Vermillion says:

Yummy food shots! I’m feeling hungry now lol. I love how you use the polaroid app. It gives it a nice personal feel? ^^

  33. susy says:

:O what does that vinegar drink do? i’ve actually never seen or heard of it before!!

  34. Stacey says:

All the food pictures look sooo good +w+ !! I never heard of the apple drinks before… are they really popular? What makes them “diet” exactly?

And totally unrelated question: Are you using a template for your layout? I love it! I’d like to have something similar but I wasn’t able to find anything online… tips/suggestions? Thanks so much~

    • jenny says:

Apple vinegar has been a long time fad diet “trick” and thus drink is just playing off that.

As for my layout I didn’t use a template or anything. I coded it start to finish myself and made the graphics and everything ;). I’ve been coding layouts for over 10 years now so I don’t really have any tips that might be helpful, I’m sorry. I dont know where to find easy ready to use templates or anything =Y

      • Stacey says:

Ooohh yes well that makes a lot of sense considering your a web designer (I remember now! XD). So then… may I ask… are you open for commissions? If so, would I be able to get an idea on your pricing?

I especially like the comments, how they’re displayed, and also the ability to use japanese like emoticons in the blog entry without breaking the whole page!

        • jenny says:

I’m not right this moment but ask me in a week and I might if the gov’t decides to shut down!! Then I’ll have nothing BUT time and will need the cash DX

  35. Vinny says:

Great photography! Starbucks is addictive but coffee makes me hypo so I tend to avoid it DX

By the way, is there any programming involved or network management involved with web development?

    • jenny says:

I’d definitely say yes to both! It’s a huge part of my current job as well as it was a big part of my university degree.

      • Vinny says:

Woah, really? I thought it was just designing and publishing websites using programs like Adobe Flash and Dreamweaver. How wrong was I? ^^”

So I guess you’d have to be pretty familiar with C++ and Java Script huh?

        Thanks for replying

  36. Sidney says:

i would like some of all that food you posted, plz!! haha so yummy~ i LOVE bibimbap…have you had it in the hot stone bowl (dolsot bibimbap)? that is my FAVORITE because then it cooks everything and the rice is sort of crunchy at the end…mmm
AND fruit vinegar!! love that stuff, too~~ i didn’t know they were a “diet” thing until i bought some to class one day and my teacher asked if i was on a diet lol~ i was like “no…it just tastes good!”

haha i bough a bunch of VIA coffee back to korea with me; including some of the new flavoured stuff. i haven’t tried that yet, though.

    • jenny says:

I’ve had it but already pre-cooked :(. Like, I didn’t get to cook it myself ;(.

Ah that’s funny you didn’t know about the vinegar drinks! I think they’re so beneficial! I knew they were diet just bc they’d only appear in the diet sections of magazines *thumbs up

I’ve only tried the pure coffee vias. They have those flavored latte-like ones too which think is what you got?! I’d try them if they weren’t 60kcal. ;(. But til then I’m sticking to 0kcal coffee only versions. I bet the flavored ones taste yummy though :D

  37. BiBi says:

I love seeing your food posts! Looking at the chicken pot pie is making my mouth water.

  38. bloomzy says:

Just wondering how the apple drink helps with diets. Is it a healthy substitute etc.? I am always looking for new healthy foods but am a little sceptical of some Japanese ones…I’m going to hate returning to the UK and having so few, boring diet options haha

I can only drink decaf, not allowed caffeine and I LOVE the Starbucks VIA range. Unfortunately you can’t buy the decaf version here (because Japan is unaware of decaf for some reason) so I get it shipped from home haha

    • jenny says:

Apple cider vinegar is supposed to suppress appetite and “burn fat” faster. Whether or not that’s true I have no idea! :P I just like how it feels in my tummy xD! They sell tiny juice box versions of these at conbini! Give one a try!!

We noticed that their VIA iced coffee mixes were unsweetened!!!! SO LUCKY!!! Mike was into the Iced VIA but hated how sweet the US ones (plus the pointless calories) so we ended up buying a ton to bring home. It’s always amusing the small differences. Another difference was back in 08 Tokyo Starbucks had the “short” size but American ones didn’t!! Only this past year finally the US started carrying “short” but they STILL aren’t listed on the menu!! It’s like the “secret” size and everyone gawks at me when I pick up my “short” order xD

  39. rene says:

Your daily food look so yum in compared to mine. HAHAHA.

I love cabbage too! But do you know there is this diet called ‘Blood Type Diet’? I’m type O and cabbage is one food that I should avoid for weight loss! Haha!

  40. Courtney says:

Ah I like this! Showing us the highlights of your day with pictures. :)

  41. cin says:

    omnomnomnomnom at the food :D
your japanese supermarket has that matryoshka looking lip balm!! i’ve been wanting to try them but it’s around 800 yen while a water in lip lipbalm is only around 300..

  42. Miya says:

Just wondering…which market do you go to? Still searching for some good ones in the area…I know you have one store in MD(?) but that’s quite a ways for me LoL…is this store closer to DC?

    • jenny says:

It’s more DC Metro area in Rockville MD, at certain low traffic times it doesn’t take long to get there but midday weekends and rush hour traffic it’s chaos. It’s called Maruichi.

  43. Selvinas says:

I’ve tried the apple vinegar drink before. I usually drink it whenever I’m in Asia. I did make it myself a couple of times by buying apple juice and then adding vinegar. But I’m wondering if that’s healthy to drink?
Because in your post you said something about that brand being ready-to-drink….
