Typical Long-Ass Year End Post

Long post about this past year & looking forward.

Personal

I didn’t set out to make a lot of changes this year, but I’d say they happened. And for the better! My 2012 resolution was to become more self-sufficient. I focused on my own happiness for a while. Thought through what really felt right with me. With “30” just around the bend I was ready to get to a nice plateau. A place where things could feel more effortless.

I can honestly say I’m much more patient now than ever. I’ve even gotten an upper hand on my battle with perfectionism especially when it comes to my home and relationships.

As for shopping, I kept my personal tastes in mind and did very little impulse buying compared to the past. I feel comfortable meeting my 30’s with what I have in my closet these days. It’s different for everybody, but this was of some importance to me actually. It’s a complicated feeling that includes the ideal of youth, one’s professional appearance, and personal preference. This was the first full year where I felt unwavering and comfortable in my wardrobe and it was really rewarding. :deco2:

From personal to blog-related

Early-2012 I decided to become little more private with my blog. I wasn’t really looking for offline attention and so I needed my blog to become more of a part of me rather than who I was seen as being completely. I know the decrease in makeup and outfit photos has been disappointing to many readers. I was torn. Because, though I love sharing those things, I also preferred a little more anonymity than I was receiving. The shift let me focus on posting things I stilled loved though. :)

And instagram, hahaha that really took over for me when it came to personal entries. I feel my instagram was somewhat more personal than my blog for a while because it felt more in the here & now. I think they’re probably more or less the same now.

For 2013 I have a few changes in mind.

I plan on starting the year off with a 3 month Madewell shopping ban. I got a lot of Madewell for Christmas & I have plenty to wear. I’ve successfully curbed my other spending habits this past year & the year before. For example I only go into Sephora for refills or if there’s something very specific I want to peruse. I stopped impulse buying off Madewell’s sales rack (which used to be my achilles heel,) but I need a full break to enjoy everything I have RIGHT NOW. And for Spring I will only need a new top and tank to get me through the season. I actually think this will be a relatively easy resolution. With a few moments of pining.

Secondly for January it’s time to get back into fish & spinach! I feel so fatigued from all the Thanksgiving to Christmas indulgences. I really LOVED the fish entrees I started eating this summer. More protein, more fiber again. Mike agrees which is good because he’s the household chef.

That’s all really. Just doing more of the same. Try to be a bit nicer while not compromising my own convictions. Etc. Etc. stuff :)

Knitted Snood

Thursday December 27, 2012 comments

Finished knitting my snood on Christmas Eve and got to block it last night. I’m so happy with how it turned out. :deco2: For my first knitting project in a long time, and for a “project” that was more of me casting on a random number of stitches and knitting mindlessly, it exceeded my expectations. I’m happy I could use this nice yarn I bought years ago. It’s soft and thick. Very warm. And the heather black color will match my typically all black “going to & from work” ensemble. :)

Stay warm!!
