Now it’s a chronic problem

Monday, June 9th, 2008 | 25 Comments

I think I’ve mentioned a few times in the past (?) of horrible charley horse incidents I’ve had. Throughout my lifetime I’ll get about 2 a year that just kill. But in the past month & 1/2 I’ve had 3 simply horrid ones. No doubt the blame rests solely on the fact the new house has stairs and I’m up & down those stairs countless times a day. Today it didn’t help that I had even MORE stairs to climb due to the train switching platforms & errands to run at work. THE POINT IS I TOOK A NAP TODAY ONLY TO WAKE UP SCREAMING IN UNBEARABLE PAIN. :crazycry: I couldn’t stop it no matter how much I tried to stretch my leg. Even Mike came rushing in a grabbed my calf trying to massage the cramp out as quickly as possible

I cried for about 10 minutes after it stopped. The pain It was embarrassing really. I couldn’t walk (still barely can.) It should be a bit better tomorrow and I’ll take a bottle of muscle relaxers in my purse to help get me through the day. s i g h I guess I need to start stretching more?? Maybe it’ll help? My body hates me (only explanation)!

my garden

I noticed that the summer sun and my little terrace garden put on a shadow puppet show for me. This picture just reminds me of how hot it’s been getting. OH, have I ever shared this link!? It’s a page of screen savers of a company’s little mascot cat. The screen savers are pretty cute. Just photos, mainly, of the kitty out ‘n about (or PS’ed, whatever, hahaha.)

Oh my gosh I know how you feel. I get them all the time. Really painful.. But whenever I feel one coming, like sometimes I can feel slight tightening when I walk, I eat a bit of salt, or have something with a some extra sodium. I don’t know if it really works, but I heard that you get them cause you have less sodium in your body. But wrong or right, it seems to work for me. Maybe you could try that.

I hope you feel better

Hope you’re feeling better Jen, it sounds horribly painful.

Take it easy, take a relaxing walk and drink electrolytes.

Hope it is better by tomorrow and your terrace garden is just darling.

Ah! I have the same problem, but I get it about once a month and usually in my sleep. It’s really disorienting and annoying to wake up with a mind numbing sharp pain in your calf. I’ve gotten so used to it by now that I can predict when it happens before it actually happens. It’s usually when I stretch my leg in my sleep, then I think, “Oh shit,” and then it comes.

I heard it’s because of a lack of potassium in your diet. I eat bananas usually, but I haven’t really correlated that to when I get them at night. I don’t think it’s sodium though. I feel like I eat a lot of salty food.

my parents lied to me and told me it was because my legs were growing longer D:
but then i sometimes only got them in one leg so i was pretty WTF? ONE LEG WILL BE LONGER THAN THE OTHER!? *more crying*

Eeek! Charlie horses are so terribly painful. I’m so sorry for you! I used to get them a few years ago and what helped me is that I stretch in the morning and at night and started jogging…. Hope they’ll go away soon!

This might sound wierd, but my dad gets um and he tod me if I ever get a leg cramp, the best thing to do is to drink pickle juice (ya know the stuff the pickles are floating around in), and it will go away. You don’t have to drink alot, just like a couple of sips….

Yowtch - D; I used to get those cramps alot when I was younger - something about dodgy blood circulation~ I have shockingly low blood pressure - as one doctor put it ” Are you sure you’re not dead”.

HA. HA.

Yea - those doctors have a great sense of humor .

Nwaaa— your garden looks so adorable!

Oh and I want to write to you! Watch me e-mail you my address! Wheee!

i’ve suffered from those too. i’d wake up in the middle of the night screaming.. stretching DOES help, specially right before you go to bed. bananas help a lot too (eating them, of course)

Oh gosh… I get those often. I know your pain! It hurts like crazy, and sometimes I cried and screamed so hard until my hubby woke up and said what’s wrong. The worst is it feels like your muscles tore. I hope you will feel better!

I have found that standing up right away will eliminate a charley horse while sleeping/laying down.

Or, take lots and lots of cocaine. You will be so high, you will not notice the charley horse.

My leg gets super sore when I’m stressed. I think when I’m stressed I sleep oddly & that causes my leg to hurt too.

Also, I’m at work so I can’t take my post off private until I get home, but I DID post.

Feel better soon, Jen! I understand how you feel because I’ve been experiencing some pain too….. well, that’s what I get for not stretching before playing badminton so intensely -.- I haven’t done rigorous exercise in a while. Yeah, stretching once in a while should help a little.

I like your garden! Haha, it does look like a puppet show. Yep, it’s so hot lately. I’m so glad I’m going to the mountains in a few days

Sometimes in the mornings…I just wake up really suddenly…and like i stretch my neck muscle really badly…and it hurts so much…I have to lie still for ten minutes until the pain starts going away…i dunno what that’s called though…ahhh it hurts~ I’ve never experienced a Charley horse…i think i never have…not sure…i’ve just pulled a lot of muscles and had shin and knee problems~

I hope you feel better soon. Just try to stretch a little bit everyday…I’m sure that will help a little bit~

Your garden is so cute ^_____^

REH! I hope there’s something you can do to ease them out of being so chronic…anything you can take or warming up before working? They get insane sometimes ;A; Hope they stop though…
