PopSister and Buys
Tuesday April 28, 2009
I am completely fried (mentally!) Had an all-day conference today and then again tomorrow. The conference rooms are icy cold but it’s still crazy hot outside! And I’m so tired of hearing about TWITTEROMFFFFFFFGGGG! But anyway~ it had its productive moments/statements. The food was dreadful though. And this year no snack foods during breaks!? WTF!? I might lose 5lbs just b/c their lack of feeding me! :dizzy: Anyway~
I just had a few things to say about PopSister! I know I got it on Saturday and I tried blogging sooner but that failed.
Along with the magazine my friend sent me this really cute Tsubasa hair clip! It’s featured in the issue too :noki4:

Anyway, LOVE POPSISTER! I like it a lot more than Popteen. It’s more casual but also more grown up (ie. the outfits don’t show as much skin which is nice!) I also noticed that PopSister refers to itself as a “street” magazine. A gyaru street magazine sounds a bit redundant but you can tell that they’re doing more of a casual angle. I like that personally because My work-life outfits are more CanCam/Soup style (lol odd pairing but it best describes it!) and my non-work style is much more young & casual.

Tsubasa!
American girly style~~

I really like the eye make in this magazine. It’s more fun & uses color more often! Lots of creme eyeliner pencils being used. Also did more traditional nude gal style make (nude colors but heavy black liner & lashes.)

JENNYTHONG made me laugh in glee
I was also so, so, sooooo happy that I already owned a bunch of the key items featured!! Rolled up Boyfriend Jeans, mesh cap, mouton boots, straw fedora, fitted graphic tees, dark tights, frilly skirt~ though I’m thinking of getting some pastel sneakers. Haven’t bought sneakers since uni because I typically only wear them once a year or so. I don’t feel comfortable in sneakers. They make me feel dumpy~ I dunno

Cute pompom hair tie spotting!! I’m a little confused on the continued use of knit caps. It’s the June issue. And even for April or May a knit cap seems like a totally suffocating idea. Are these caps made out of some new, lightweight material or something?? I’ll admit I think it’s ever so cute but it makes my scalp itch just thinking about it! Maybe I’m just biased because the past 4 days has been in the 90’s here :;_;:

Also big bows still win obviously!!! And did I mentioned I happened upon the Firever21 bows I mentioned a few days ago!? Finally!! Sunday we were at a different mall so I checked and sure enough they had them!!! I also picked up some fake specs at UO. Yea, I sold out. After seeing the damn things in PopSister nonstop I bought em! It’s OK, they remind me of my dad’s glasses which is nice. Plus I feel less self conscience in these compared to my real glasses because there’s no refraction.

The glasses style was a constant key item!

Mike said this bow looks like a hat! :haha:
Thanks everyone for your opinions on twitter & in my comments!I’m glad a lot of you really liked PopSister too! I hope it goes monthly~~ hehe
In other news my edamame is exploding!!!!!

Yay to PopSister!! I feel better reading it too compared to Popteen because I’m already 23 and it’s kind of awkward reading a magazine targeted for girls still in high school~ lol
-
I enjoyed PopSister, too!! I loved how everything wasn’t so bright and girly. It kept to the gyaru style but it also kept it simple.
I like how they misspelled Tsubasa’s name lol. That made me laugh.
Those sneakers are cute! They remind me a whole lot of Reebok’s neon colored sneakers! Get them!!
-
actually, her name is not mispelled because technically, there is no difference in tu and tsu when you pronounce it in japanese :x
-
But isn’t her last name masuKAWA, and not masuWAKA?

Gorgeous hair bows!!!
Yeah I do like Popsister more also :D
Thanks for posting them by the way. Much appreciated Jenny~~ -
i think popsister style suits you very well. The knit caps seem to appear so often, its like they disregard the weather or something.. Here, its like frickin 100 degrees. It would like microwave my head. I love the huge bows, i saw them at f21 too and surprisingly no one buys them! i also adore the blazer in that pic. haha, i love the specs, uber trendy.
-
D: the edamame pictures remind me of totoro.. when they did the dance and the sprouts went nuts and grew into trees… !!!
and the glasses! nerd glasses… I am not sure where to get them… or if they will look good on me haha, but they look so cute on you!!!
-
ah I have to read the PopSister I dl-ed from you. It looks really cool. I never really dress up that feminine though, my aspiration is to have a wardrobe similar to the saigo website, awesome boystyle~
I love the bows though, and your nails are super cute :D I have glasses like yours, but no lenses :(
-
I love your pictures! You look really cute and your nails are gorgeous. Thank you for commenting on my site and for scanning Popsister. I really hope that people buy it and it becomes popular enough to stay. I believe it is sold out on amazon.jp so that is a good sign! I will definitely pick up a copy this week!
Great post!

oversized glasses are a fashion item, there’s nothing bad about that ;) people do have mixed feelings over them because they’re fake specs but… it’s trendy!!

-
The fake specs totally work on you, lol!! I’m just so anti-glasses, I can’t bring myself to go with that trend XD & the red bow does look like a hat! I envy all your bows though, lol~

Thanks for the PopSister scans ~ I really enjoy the kind of Zipper-esque graphic design they have goin’ on – it’s like a party IN YOUR FACE
I love colorful sneakers – I have some old skool purple Roos and Onitsuka tigers. Not really into the GIANT chunky sneakers – they make me feel like a 14 year old boy skateboarding on school property XD
-
Wow, those plants are growing quickly. I wish I had your green thumb. I love your bows! I got one in a magazine, but I’m too self-concious(sp) to wear it.
-
Hello Jenny, I’ve been visiting your blog in a regular basis for months now and all I can say is I’m loving it! ♥ Thank you so much for putting online those Japanese magazine scans. EDMAME-SPLOSION! WIN. But NG on the freezer-conferences & lack of snacks. Total NG.

とまと & I agree that you should apply to be a J-model…all your photos look like they came out of the PopGirl/Teen/Sister/Etc. magazines!!! “PopJenny” on shelves soooon!! XD

MAN. T_T
I wish I could subscribe to PopSister.
I love everything inside and gives me a checklist with the new trends and what not.
Lololol :) -
Those balloons are still hangin in there! xD
But I liked how PopSister is soo casual. And the Tsubasa clip is love!
-
Popsister was really great! thank-you for the scans! :)
Your plants look so cute btw~ >3
-
Hah, those “ray-ban” glasses are becoming just as popular as those bows. Too bad I can’t wear fake specs since I don’t wear contacts =/ That bow really does look like a hat. It’s the first thing that came to mind mind hehe.
-
Love the Tsubasa hair clip + your nails!
That’s the number-one thing I hate about warmer weather, over airconditioned office buildings. It’s TOO cold inside and then you go outside and it’s too hot and the immediate temperature change gives me a headache. ick.
-
I want those glasses so bad…
I wear glasses since always, and my current obssesion are really big glasses, but I can’t find them anywhere here u.uThanks 4 the scans… This mag is absolutely cute
-
Yup Popsister is awesome! Thanks for scanning it! I like the style better than Popteen too :D
I’ve been trying to find the frame for those big glasses and turn them to real ones so they have some use~ I wonder if i can just pop out the lens from those fake ones and replace it with prescription lenses..
Good luck with work! ^^ -
The PopSister magazine looks so cute!!! I wish we had a japanese market I could buy it from here :( I’ll have to look into ordering it from Amazon~~
-
That bow clip is cute!
Popsisters sounds cool but I don’t know if I can pull off some of their styles, lol.
You look cute in those glasses! I’ve always wanted to get a pair of those nerdy and geeky glasses, but they seem to be a bit hard to find? Well, the ones with no prescriptions. XD
-
The girl with the fake cher t-shirt looks SO like you
-
this journal was that I liked more, it combines more
bye o / -
You look good with those oversized wayfarer glasses!! I have the exact same once :D!
I wish I had long hair sometimes, so that I can style it =/ Meh. :P But short hair is good in the heat :p
-
Wow, your edamame is growing like crazy! Just wondering but…do you wear those huge bows out in public? I think I’d get flack if I was to sport one around DC, heh >.
-
Such cute style ^_^
Haha Mike is right about the bow XDThat sucks about no work snacks- maybe bring an apple???
