T-shirts and Questions

Wednesday April 29, 2009

So instead of being at the office this past 2 days I’ve been at a Web Content Managers 2-day conference. Listening to speakers and having breakout session and freezing my nips off because no matter how hot or cold it is outside, big buildings think it’s their mission to recreate arctic conditions. But it was good. I always feel such motivation after those! But tomorrow I’ll be back in the office. I dreeeead my inbox. I won’t go into the conference information. I think it would be boring unless you’re in the Information Technology field. Even Mike’s eyes glazed over as I summarized my days
:mkpoo:

The weather is so bi-polar!! Today it was so chilly and rainy. And I rushed out the door late forgetting my damn coat!! Yesterday it was blazing hot! This is what I even wore out last night!

The sandals are new. I bought them hoping they’ll become my #1 summer shoes! I want them to be comfy & NOT cause blisters. So far I walked around the mall in them for about 2 hours and my feet felt pretty happy! So here’s hoping!

Speaking of tees, Sumie sent me these links to fake cher shirts!!

DO WANT!!

I think the tee and the smock tube top are both a bit tiny in the bust for me. I measured and I think they might just fit. And thanks to Crystal who did the exchange it’s apparently only around 10USD$!! HUM~ I wonder how I could get one :P~ damn cute!

OH!

Photo I took with my Holga: Mt. Fuji area

I get a lot of questions about Japan or planning Japan trips or specific questions about my trip. I thought, while it’s on my mind, if any of you had questions like that you could feel free to ask them in this post’s comments! I know not everyone feels comfortable sending me a direct email or asking me on MSN so I thought I’d put that opportunity out there.

:bigheart:

IT Major right hurr! :D~ I’m going into the web development field (hopefully), so it would probably interest me XD!

That cher top is cute, but definitely way too expensive.

  2. Crystal says:

Hey, I think you did the conversion wrong. You probably thought the auctions are in CNY (Chinese Yuan). The auctions are listed in TWD (Taiwanese Dollars). So the tee and the tube top work out to be just under $8 USD each. I didn’t add shipping or anything but it shouldn’t be too bad

    hope this helps =)

    • jenny says:

THANK YOU!!! I wasn’t sure if it was TWD or CNY so I was hoping someone would let me know if I did it wrong!

  3. Ruby says:

I would love that Cher tee also, but I wore my Cher bag out with some friends and all of my friends kept making jokes that I was a Cher (singer) fan.. -_- (I still wear it out though)

    I want those sandals!

  4. Linda says:

    oooh cute sandals!
    where did you get them?

  5. Caitlin says:

Wow! Those are SUCH cute shirts! I want to get one in every color! Do you think you would have to use a shopping service to get one like Celga? You should do a group order for the fans of your blog! *wishful thinking* Let us know if you figure out how to get your hands on them!

I think it’s great that you are opening up to questions about Japan. If you had some general planning/travel tips I think that would be really helpful.

    Caitlin

    • jenny says:

This was my way or sorta avoiding doing a general blog posting of random travel advice. It’s easier with specific questions instead :P

  6. Rachelle says:

I just feel in love with that Cher shirt. That is now my motivation to work out :P

  7. toritori says:

    AH! *_*
I wish there were easier/cheaper ways to get those shirts!! They’re so adorable.
    ;-;
    Must.. find.. a way..
WE CAN ALL WORK TOGETHER! Lmao.

    Your outfit is way cute.
Can’t wear that over here, too damn cold!!! T_T

And as for questions with your trip, I bet people will have lotsss of questions.
    More tips for Jennyy :)

  8. hannie says:

thats a cute outfit ~ very beachy, casual chic! you always have cute outfits. i wonder what the poeple at your work say! hahaha

    • jenny says:

God I WISH I could wear something like this to work!! But not in a million years. Not even on casual Fridays! I have to wear business casual attire~ not beach casual, sadly.

  9. Kim says:

I hate being away from my inbox for a long time :(

Those shoes are really cute! I’m always skeptical about shoes I buy from Target, but I’ve been really happy with a recent pair that I bought. I have high hopes for your shoes too!

  10. Jing says:

Even though they are fake, those Cher tees are still super cute. I’m a little surprised that it came off of a Chinese site. Didn’t know Cher was popular in China as well O_o I don’t know much about IT, but I almost majored in computer science O_o

  11. fuiri says:

it’s sweet of you to offer ^^ can i request for a list of recommendations for affordable shoping/dining?

    • jenny says:

Well I’ll focus on the Tokyo area and can only speak from my personal visit but for cheaper clothing definitely Takeshita Dori! The street is lined with some of the cheapest shops including Paris Kids and Randa (where you can get cheaper versions of popular shoes!) Also 100YEN shops are a treasure trove for smaller items or even for cheap luggage/bags! As for dining, smaller eateries like C&C Curry, Yoshinoya, or Pepper & Co offer pretty delicious, quick, cheap meals!

      • fuiri says:

ahh thanks so much for the suggestion

      • fuiri says:

i actually bookmarked this page XD i have another question!! did u travel around tokyo with a JR-issued pass or u bought individual train tickets? Please advise me on this matter.

Sorry i am so troublesome!! The trip is drawing near and i am excited~

Oh. And are the luggage/bags from those 100 yen shops decent/cute enough for ur liking :D haha i have a feeling i’d have to buy luggage there to fit my shopping!

        Thanks in advance

        • jenny says:

I bought individual train tickets. It’s really easy.

As for the luggage it depends on the store & stock. The Daiso in Harajuku had tons of basic cute patterns like polka dots or stripes in cute colors. Of course if you really do need to buy smtg to carry home your goods you’ll settle for plain black (lol trust me!)

          • fuiri says:

yay ok i trust u on that matter :)

“if you really do need to buy smtg to carry home your goods you’ll settle for plain black (lol trust me!)” – i wonder why u said that lol!

          • jenny says:

Haahaa because my second bag I bought on the last day I was there after I packed & realized I couldn’t fit everything home! It was a huge, plain, black duffel bag that only cost me 800Yen!

  12. Sumie says:

yes the tees are cheap in general, but incl. shipping and agent fee it might cost you double….
maybe i should organize a spree for it^^
    anyone interested?

    • jenny says:

Well now that I know it’s less than 36 (LOL conversion assumption fail) others might want to get a tee too? I’d totally go in on a spree with you and could create a post to see if anyone else is interested! But it’s so gracious of you to offer, are you sure you want to?? :D

      • Sumie says:

sure as long as everybody is reliable and patient(!)^^
i am already awaiting an order….
shipping for one tee will be 6€ (8 USD up to 500gr) to US, Canada, etc. and 4€ withing europe.
if that’s okay with you guys then let me know.
just create a post and we’ll see if it’s worth to do so and how many people we can collect.
i could also offer cher bags from yahoo auction(only on demand) taiwan but don’t expect authentic bags xD”

        • Sumie says:

          short calculation

          t-shirt
price 250(price) + 20(shipping to taiwanese agents place)
          = 270(6,2€ / around 8 USD)

          shipping from my place
          8USD

          = 16 USD + paypal fee(just about 1-2 bucks)

+ agent fee and shipping to my place which will be divided on all(depends on how many people we are from 300TWD~1000TWD)

i would say a total of around 25bucks(maximum) for one tee.
if anyone wants to add a cher bag i can do research on that too but they cost around 500TWD(12USD without shipping and anything else)

(tube top + 1-3 USD slightly more expensive than shirt)

        • jenny says:

I just got your email, maybe I should direct ppl to that site too instead? I feel like were pressuring you into a group order which isnt fair. but I could just copy the amazing instructions you gave me instead?? :)

        • Sumie says:

well if you want to ,you can just order directly from them and it would be even better for you if you want to add some other items from taiwan yahoo, ruten etc. as i said the more you order the more it gets reasonable to do so.
the taiwanese agent is a GREAT help they can answer you every question^^
just copy the instructions and for those who are not able to order can just contact me.

        • jenny says:

Thanks Sumie you’ve been an amazing help!! Yea I think I WOULD want to order more ;D

    • Tori says:

      I’M DEFINITELY IN, LADIES~~!! :)

    • toritori says:

I bet everyone here is interested!! *_*
-Hahah to the double Tori’s here :)

    • Caitlin says:

I would totally be interested in a group order!

  13. Megan says:

The cher shirts are love!! ^_^ $36 is a lot for a tee though. If Crystal up there is right then $8 wouldn’t be bad at all!!

I personally think IT/web stuff is interesting, BUT I know what you mean about not wanting to bore people. I’m hesitant to blog about my video game hobbies since I know it’s not as interesting if the reader isn’t into them themselves~~

Japan! I’m always so interested but I can’t think of any questions LOL, go figure!!

  14. emm says:

OMG i thought that model was you for a second
    and yeah hahahaha
super cool though theidea of helping ppl with their trips
going on tours can be expensive and not that fun
    yeah~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    i forgot what i was saying..:x
    anyways..
    BYE!

  15. Ys says:

Ah I know exactly what you mean about needing to find comfortable shoes for the summer. My sandals from last year broke and as much as I have fixed them they’re not as comfortable anymore so this year I need a new pair… I’m kinda dreading it cos I walk non-stop in the summer so need super comfortable shoes. I love pattern on yours! So summery :)

  16. Lily says:

I can’t believe how expensive the FAKE cher shirts are. I don’t want to imagine how expensive the reals ones would be…

    But they’re really cute (^3^)

    • jenny says:

Nah my fault. I wasn’t sure if it was CNY or TWD and I convertered the wrong one. It’s only around $8USD

  17. lyc says:

    oh dearr ….
d cher tee is so adorable ……………..
you gonna get 1 either ??!

  18. cin says:

I like the tee better I dunno why.. But Yay for the cheaper price!!! :D
I just noticed that the site is from Taiwan not China hahahahah FAIL
I think the cheapest plane ticket I’ve found for Tokyo is AUS$850 :D Lets hope they still got seats~

  19. Tori says:

omg, I used to have to go to ‘conferences’ & such like that in my last job, & I remember one speaker actually telling us that they keep it purposely freezing in the building so you don’t fall asleep!! XD Cruel, wicked bastards, lol~

Oh, & if you manage to figure out how to get one of those tees, let me know!! I can totally afford 10$, lol!!

Love the sandals too ♥ Let’s hope we get our summer-like weather back soon!

  20. happy says:

    first time comment ^^
you`re too cute to be true jenny.
aaand, I have a question but it`s not about traveling to japan.
For working clothes, can you recommend me any japanese fashion mags?
I want to look professional but not boring and I generally fail at reaching that.

  21. karme says:

cher tube top want!! too bad i have birf control huge boobs hahaa

  22. Veronica says:

    Hey girl

I used to live near a Yoshinoya in NYC but it closed :(

When you talk to you friend in Japan, do you speak English, Japanese or a mis of both? My friend Ami can switch back and forth so easily, it makes my head spin!

  23. Megan says:

Now that I’ve slept I came up with a couple questions for Japan~~

*How much did your trip cost? If that’s too personal, a rough estimate (plane, hotel, food expenses~) is fine. :3
    * What are some must-see places to visit? Cities, tourist sites, etc.
    and last one…
    * You shopped a lot when you visited Japan~ did you pack light and keep your suitcase empty for that stuff? Pack normal & ship everything home? Or did you pack normal + bring extra suit cases?

Thanks ^_^ This is so nice of you. I want to go so badly~ ToT

    • jenny says:

Well I spent around $7,000.00 But it was my honeymoon so I stayed in business suites and the onsen ryokan alone was 700$ a night. Plus tons of shopping~ You can go and enjoy yourself for much less! We did buy a package deal for Tokyo though. It was about 3,500 for business suites at a 4 star hotel (Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo.) Basically the hotel paid for our plane tickets so packages can be good esp. off-season! Food was WAY cheaper than expected though. Even the nice places we ate at were cheaper than DC prices. The most expensive was definitely the kaiseki meals.

Must sees I’d say visit a shrine or 2 and get out of the city for at least a day. It’s the true beauty there~~ Absolutely Tokyo, but when we go back I want to go to Kyoto. Kyoto is really the sightseeing local.

I packed bags into bags and STILL had to buy cheap luggage to get everything home!! I came over with 3 bags. Packed 3 inside my luggage and ended up buying 2 cheap bags too! 8 bags went home with me. 100yen shops are GREAT for buying cheap luggage if you need it. Also small street shops. I got a medium sized bag for 300yen then a huge duffel bag for just 1,000yen! So definitely pack extra bags, more than you think you’ll need if you’re crazy about shopping!

Though shipping wouldn’t be difficult. Their post offices are simple to use~~

  24. Shu says:

that outfit looks so casual and nice! i saw those sandals at target too! i’m glad they’re comfy.

i love that TW auction site. I really want to buy some of that stuff that Grace models for but I wonder if they ship worldwide? have you ever had any experience buying from there?^^

    • Shu says:

wait nevermind about the experience thing hehe i just read your comment about wondering how to get them. maybe you can get it if you know someone in taiwan and they could send it to one once they receive the clothing.

  25. Jiawen says:

It was always freezing in my high school too. But I thought that was to keep girls from dressing slutty or whatever >_>. Or to keep everyone awake. But now that I think about it.. maybe it’s so people don’t sweat and make the place smell like poo o_o.

Ahhh!! Heart cheap clothes from yahoo’s taiwanese auctions!
I like the pink tube top more :O

  26. Meli says:

:o i love your outfit and the cher shirt… if cher was popular in the US all we ,americanos, would have to do is go to a flea market and BAM! a jillion fake cher bags and t shirts and even socks oooor shoes :D hahahaha

doooodeeedaa im glad its cold in buildings, its better than being hot and people being SMELLY esp. some people who sweat more than others YUCK!

  27. Sumoni says:

Cher’s clothes are full of win. I’m really loving what they advertise & how they do it. My last meeting we had lunch. But the soup made me so sleepy I could barely stay awake.

  28. Haylee says:

    omggg~ i want one of those cher shirts ; o ;♥
    they are so damn cute~!!
even if they are fake, i dont care xD
its not like anyone can really tell either, ne~?

the weather here has been bipolar too~!!
    i prefer cooler weather though~

  29. Becca says:

=D such cute shorts! and the fake cher shirts are cute =D

  30. Thao says:

    Hehe, fake cher shirts! Nice!

Seriously the weather is bipolar here too. Last week, it was so hot that my back was all sweaty. I wore shorts and tee shirt. This week, I’m so cold that I’m in thick layers and a jacket. It’s supposed to be spring! It’s almost May!!

  31. rikuka says:

i’ve been experiencing some crazy weather too~
& wow the cher shirts are so cute! can’t even tell they’re fake ;)
    good luck getting one

  32. Shirley says:

Ahh there’s bipolar weather here in Boston too :[

Those fake Cher shirts are cute; I’d like them in a different color though

  33. Erica says:

Your outfits are lovely as always~

Haha you know what, the model wearing the imitation cher t-shirt looks like you! lol~ Maybe it’s because of the hair and the hat. ;]

  34. daisy says:

i totally thought the model was you
you guys look so much alike in so many ways..

the shirt is summer-y and cuute ♥

  35. Kirin says:

The Cher T looks cute! Cher got popular since Rinka loves to have.
If you are interested in Japanese fashion, I have a TV program that introduces cutting-edge Japanese cute fashion available with my English translations (summary) in my blog.

    http://tokyokawaiietc.com/tokyo-kawaii-tv

I think your blog readers also like this.
Hope you enjoy the show. ;)

    • jenny says:

Yes thank you! I found your site recently and am enjoying since it’s full of many things I’m currently interested in as well! And yes, I saw you do English translations of Kawaii TV! I was going to point my friends to your recent one concerning the black glasses frames since I just posted about those yesterday!

  36. Anna says:

That outfit looks so comfy!! I would totally wear that :D! And yes, let’s both go for stylish yet comfy this summer! :P

  37. Mahnah says:

For a quick trip into Harajuku, what specific stores would you recommend? And do you remember the price ranges for these stores?

    • Jen says:

I’m gonna recommend Takeshita Dori again because the rest of the shopping is typically expensive boutiques and/or are a bit more spread out.
      Paris Kids (399 cheap accessories.)
Randa (shoes run around 3,000~6,000 & are typically cheaper knock off versions of popular shoes.)
Pinklatte (more expensive items run around 5,000 6,000 so it’s similar to H&M prices.)
Wonder Rocket (again like H&M prices where the onepieces are the more expensive items beginning around 5,000.)

I spent more time at Omotesando where it’s mostly Louis Vuitton & european brands. Though Kiddyland is located there! Great, fun store! So if you’re looking for more expensive shopping I’d suggest heading on over to Omotesando~

  38. Diyana says:

Hello~ I’m the person with the Cher header if you still remember. I just want to ask a question about your Japan trip. I’ll be going to a different place but generally, are there shops in the airport selling the fashion magazines? Thanks!

    • Jen says:

      I’d suggest checking out:
http://www.narita-airport.jp/en/ at the floor guide/shop section
Because Tokyo’s airport is gigantic. I was only in 1 quadrant of it and spent time in the cafes & gift shops. I know they had a few newsstands but I don’t recall seeing any large collection of fashion magazines on sale. And I think a friend had told me once she was disappointed in the magazine selection at the airport. However the best shops ARE outside of security gates.

  39. Genevieve says:

Ooo ooo! I have a Japan question! How much money did you have to save up? I know you stayed in lovely ryokans, etc but Andy and I are talking about saving up for a trip and I’m just curious about the ballpark :)

    LOVE THE PICTURE *sigh*

I HATE THE WEATHER!!! It’s almost 1pm and I’m STILL on the couch -_-

    • Jen says:

I spoke about it a little here:
      http://sushi-cat.net/?p=1226#comment-169214
In all including spending it came to about $7K.

That was our preferred budget for a wedding even (which was fuckin’ impossible to stay in which is 1 of many reasons why we eloped.) We had been saving for the house/wedding so we were already saving before the trip.

If you check out travelocity or priceline right now, they have september (lol yea we were thinking 1st anniversary trip back LOL) packages for $3,200 total (2 ppl) flight & 4-star hotel in shinjuku for little over a week’s visit. Not too shabby!
