Eye Makeup Remover Rant

Makeup rant!
I hate Rimmel London’s oil free waterproof eye makeup remover!

I bought it a few weeks ago. I ran out of my usual Neutrogena oil-free eye makeup remover. However when at Target they didn’t have it! I was 100% out so I needed to pick up something. Figured Rimmel’s can’t be too bad. Even says “REMOVES WATERPROOF MASCARA” on the bottle!
WRONG!
It removes everything but waterproof mascara!
No matter how much I used, how long I’d saturate the mascara coated lashes, or how rough (cringe, yes, rough) I’d wipe my lashes I could barely remove any waterproof mascara. FAIL. I lost SO many lashes due to it’s crappiness too. >O
Thank god I found my good ole stand by, Neutrogena at CVS last night!

So gentle and works. I never have lash loss with this stuff! :ureshii: :good:
I don’t claim to be any sort of Kanako Kawabata expert. I don’t really even follow her, since I don’t read EGG, but I do occasionally visit her ameblo blog, ya know, for fun’sies! :rose2: She recently did a diet entry about her up and down weight lately. I couldn’t believe, at one point she actually weighed 34 kg!? :orooro: That’s roughly 75 lbs! DEAR LORD. :whoafreak: She posted this photo of her at that weight too…

at 34 kg (75 lbs)
I’m not getting into the whole she looks sick, or she looks fuckin’ hot argument here, OK. OoO
I don’t really care to be honest.
It’s her body, her choices. But I have to admit I was curious when I saw her post. woooow. :toto: Interesting. I think she said at this weight she had headaches and felt badly. She then went up to 40kg or something. Anyway. Basically, she’s gone from 45kg to 38kg. (99 – 83 lbs) She’s 4′11″ (151cm) by the way. Short little thing. *high five for shortness though, LOL*

Thought it was interesting so figured I’d share~
I don’t have much to post lately. I haven’t had a chance to take many outfit snaps. Plus I haven’t been going out much lately. I do have 1 snap though but it’s of a work outfit, hahahahaaa! I wore a fairly short skirt to work this week. OK, I know, if on the street this would NOT be considered a short skirt! But at the office it is. I usually only wear knee-length skirts. Modesty ftw. :blushingcute:

LOL, my after-work face ain’t so joyeous I guess! ha! Anyway~ I would only wear this skirt though with black tights underneath or else it would look too fleshy for work. :wakuwakuheart: The skirt’s actually a little big so it sits low on the hips and looks longer than it’s supposed to. I wanted to get it altered but because of the buttons they wanted to charge $25. Well I only paid $20 for it at the BCBG Outlet store! LOOOL! So, no, no alteration thank you. :pissy:

Kanako looks way better at her 80kg state O___O So much more natural………
Anyways… I hate when makeup removers dont work like they should. I got one from Nivea before when I ran out of my Anna Sui one. It claimed to be gentle and removed waterproof makeup but it removed NOHTING AT ALL. It was so gentle it didn’t remove a single bit of my eye make! I was so angry I threw it away instantly!
Cute skirt btw :D I’m glad the marine/border theme is still in because I have few border pieces I still wanna wear for the summer~
Did I ever mention how much I love your walk-in closet XD -
I use Rimmel and I think it;s okay~ But maybe that’s because I don’t wear much waterproof mascara? Or makeup for that matter? :3
And wow, that model is so skinny! She looks ridiculously underweight! I hope she puts on some more weight and maybe rounds out a bit! ^___^
Also, love your closet! Gorgeous! :3 And cute new layout!
-
i use clinique’s makeup remover, which is most def NOT oil free but i like it i guess. is there a reason you use the oil free? i only use makeup remover around my eyes (for the mascara!) so oil free doesn’t seem to matter much…?? thanks for letting us know how much that makeup remover sucks, though :x
yurrrg at products that don’t do what they say they will!aha i like to follow kanako’s weight issues for some reason. and i’m never ‘TOO MUCH’ or ‘TOO LESS’ about it, because i’m always torn between thinking she looks like she’ll break in half and thinking that i need to lose more weight D: fuuu……it’s still just sorta sad or something, i guess. WHY DO WE HAVE TO FOCUS ON WEIGHT SO MUCH. (lulz)
-
WOW! She’s 4′9″!! I’m about 4′9″-10″, and even for me, at 108, 83 or 99lbs seems a bit scary.
But I agree, it is her body.
She’s definitely one of my favorite models as well because of her tomboyish appearance.
And being 4′9″ and in magazines.. is definitely inspirational!
-
I use Clinique’s remover! I guess it’s alright, gets the job done… but now I know to stay away from Rimmel!
Hey-oh! Looking at her makes me really hungry, hahaha.
-
I use L’oreal for eye makeup remover. It’s the best one for me. I’ve never tried Neutrogena though.
And the model is soooo skinny!! I want to feed her some food hahaha.
I like your red shoes by the way :)
-
OMGOSH that’s just horrible! You would think that Rimmel would be higher quality.
I thought you were going to work on smiling in your pics? Haha. ^_^;;;;
-
Arg, I JUST bought that exact Rimmel eye makeup remover this week and I agree that it sucks. I ended up with raccoon eyes :(
-
I hate losing lashes!! They are so precious to mee hahaha
I love the little doodlies you add! Is that a layers palette outer glow?? (Photoshop nerdom)
-
Oh sorry to hear that Rimmel ruined your lashes, the jerks! I will stay away from that product. Well actually I wash off my eye makeup with facial cleanser, so I already know I am not doing it right haha.
As for Kanako, I know she must be under huge pressure to be that thin. It’s just sad that she has to suffer pain and headaches because of that. Also she obviously lost a huge amount of muscle mass. Her “before” photo, she had no fat already, you can see the muscles in her thighs. She is still a very cute and sweet person I think^^
You look super cute. I love your coordinate.
-
oh god that’s my favorite eye make up remover and i just ran out recently too -_____-
-
Wow~ It sure does gave me a lil bit of marine feel!
Love the Monotone x Red! Stand out!!! :D -
RIMMEL products are so hit & miss for me… I almost picked up that eye make remover myself, so thanks for the heads up!! XD
I wonder what kind of diet Kanako went on… I wondered why she always wore a mask in a lot of her blog photos, so I just thought she was sick & that was it ;( Now that explains it…
Your work outfit is adorable though! ❤ You camouflaged the size of the skirt with the cardigan really well~ I can only tell that it looks a bit big, but not in an unflattering way! -
I’ve been searching for a good eye make remover, so I’m glad you posted this! :D I usually do just rub the makeup off using a regular face wash. -___- Somehow I don’t loose lashes too often, though.
-
That is the cutest work outfit EVER! So adorable :)
Ah I hate all the skinny debates too. For me personally I like a girl with some flesh on her bones; I just think it looks more attractive.
-
I hate it when the thing you really want is OOS and you’re forced to by something else, but when you try it you realize it sucks balls T_T;;;; *has too many experiences of this* I totally feel your pain
Omg motivation to diet, thanks XDDD
But wow yah, she does still look 34kg =_=;;; wth. -
Bah, Rimmel has such weird products – I love some of them and then absolutely despise others, and I’ll make sure not to put up the eye remover! And gah, that girl is so thin! If she’s happy with her shape, then sure, but I’m all about healthiness first. And I think you look amazing in your outfit, even if your after-work face isn’t too happy hehe. Hope you have a great weekend!

hi i seldom comment on ur blog. but i just wanna suggest.
you dont really need a makeup remover to remove everything!
for me, i use my usual makeup remover and just wipe it around my face except the eyes. the eyes are really delicate. so what i do, i use Johnson’s baby oil, add few drops to a cotton pad and few swipes in one direction. EVERY EYE MAKEUP is removed!of course you dont wanna leave ur eyes oily. wash ur face as usual @skin care regime.
HEHE ;)
xoxo

Nice w-e! -
oh no! boo to the rimnmel eye makeup remover! :(
i love the decor for your work outfit picture :3 -
Ohhhh i just love your blog. It’s so cute and adorable (^w^)
I wish I could someday look like you and wear clothes such as yours.
(btw You have really good taste ^o^ )
Greetings from Poland~!
P.S Sorry for my english T_T -
I think whatsherface looks cute at 40kg! I’m one of those people who’s obsessive about weight (started as a teenager) but her thighs are the same size as her calves & that’s a wee bit icky :( But, as long as she’s healthy who am I to say anything?
What a bummer about the makeup remover! I always use… actually I forget what it’s called but it’s kinda greasy and in a tub with a green (maybe blue?) lid. Lasts years. Literally lol.
Your outfit is so cute! I know what you mean about dressing modestly for work, though. I typically wear pants to my jobs & if I DO wear a skirt, it’s usually with tights.
-
Oh I need to try the Neutrogena one! I’ve been using this brand my mum has and I always find that I have to rub really hard for it to come off and as if eyelashes aren’t fragile enough D:
Also… wow 34kg?! I can’t even remember the last time I was 34kg but that’s just insane. She looks so cute at 40kg. It’s kind of sad to see how skewed to one side the view of weight is in Asian countries. If she’s healthy I guess that’s alright but she looks so thin!
Your office outfit is so cute! I like the nautical theme :D
-
ughh that sucks! its the same with my loreal “professional” make up remover. professional my ass it doesnt remove waterproof mascara without taking out a lot of my lashes XDD
i saw the kanako pics in her blog~ i personally like her look before better, hair and body. but thats just me~ ^^ -
Hmm, I use petroleum jelly to remove my make-up. But I figured I better buy a make-up remover soon. Now I know what to buy ;)
Your outfit looks hot. I know people who weigh 40kg and less. Models ;)
-
Great post! I can totally sympathize with finding the right eye makeup remover…it took me 3 different tries before I found one I like!
Also, kudos to you for pointing out Kanako`s weight loss. I have seen waaaay too many people denying she had lost any weight when it was obvious she had. :( Models do have to be small, but there is a limit and I believe she has passed it…
I linked this post to my weekly wrapup. Keep up the great content!

I love how short Japanese models can be since I’m a short person myself. I feel like there’s more connection when I look at their pictures rather than those of 6ft models.
-
Oh man.. I looooove your outfit! I wanted a skirt like that at H&M but it was too small for me. :(
I actually use those Target brand make up wipes that is comparable to the Neutrogena wipes! They work well but I haven’t tried any other so I really can’t say! Haha..
-
Thanks for you comment! Sometimes I try the Jelly Belly recipes, when I happen to have all the needed flavours in my sweet bag! :-))) But they are really great.
Japanese modeels can be so thin!! That’s really shocking. I am not an expert on Gyaru, but the way she looks like can’t be healthy anymore:-( But, hey, I am taller than her!! (154 cm XDDD)
Your outfit is really great, btw!!
-
I’m not a big fan of the Rimmel remover either. My all time favorite is Clean+Clear’s eye make remover. I just soak it on for a bit and it’s like liquid magic! When I’m in a pinch I just use olive oil. I don’t understand why people feel the need for “oil-free,” those products still have “oil” in them, otherwise they wouldn’t work. Oil helps more than it hurts!
I love the cardigan + skirt in your picture above! Great combination!
-
I just found your blog a couple of weeks ago, and I love it so much! Both the content and design (and you! XD) are super cute!!! Also, reading about your dieting success has inspired me to work on my own 5 kilo diet, though I had basically given up before. Thank you for making this lovely site!!! :D
I had just come across the same entry on Kanako’s blog, too- if you are interested in what she says in detail, here’s a translation:
~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~
Kanako says she decided to lose weight last summer (actually she says that she was 45 kilo at the time of the picture on the left).
She says she is a typical pear shape, and thought even if she lost weight her legs would always be big, but seeing that pic made her embarrassed to be in a magazine.
To lose weight, she just didn’t eat. In less than half a year, she lost 11 kilos(!!).
But she thought she was too skiny and her face looked gross (maybe that’s why she wore masks so often? o_o).
After she decided to seriously diet, she hardly ate for 1 month, which dropped her down to 40 kilos. This escalated to losing even more weight.
Kanako says that starvation diet is too bad for the body- your period doesn’t come, your head hurts, you don’t feel well. She was freaked out by this, and so after reaching 40 kilos she decided to only not eat dinner. In the morning, she eats whatever she wants (foods high in carbs, ramen, meat with rice), in the afternoon she cuts down on carbs and eats lost of veggies, and at night after returning home she goes to sleep without eating anything… (Kanako mentions she thinks it’s easier to do this if you are living alone- as long as you don’t have any food in your house you can get by without eating anything XD)
Also, Kanako takes baths and goes to bedrock baths to help her diet. Also, when she is in her house she wears a orthopedic belt to prevent her pelvis bones from getting wider, and goes to Hot Yoga class. She now wants to lose weight healthily.
Despite this, she recently gained weight and went back to 38 kilos.(Sorry for the long comment!!!)
-
oops, sorry I didn’t mean this as a reply to Ashica’s comment ^_^;;;;;;; Sorry!!!
Oh thanks for letting us know about the eye make up remmover, I just ran out of my biore make up remover wipes and was thinking of getting somethign else. Will try out the Neutrogena one ;)
When people are too skinny they start to look sick…and very breakable. So I hope she gains some of the weight back. :)
Love the red cardigan and your skirt.
If you are having trouble with make up remover, ie. short you can try using olive oil in the mean time. It works really well!!
For me, I use my toner to remove my eye make up since toner is supposed to help remove the impurities from your face. You can try vaseline too which also works ok (but a little thick for me).
I heard from a make up artist once that you should buy water resistant make up instead of water proof but I guess that’s just personal taste. I think water resistant is meant to work better or something but easier to remove?
Thanks for the makeup remover tip :B~ love neutrogena too x)
but wow, … her weight… certain is very, er, versatile;;;
