All Day at a Jjimjilbang

Wednesday September 12, 2012

Took off work yesterday and headed out to Spa World.
It’s a Jjimjilbang [Korean bath house] with 7 poultice rooms, bade pools, saunas, hot tubs, full restaurant, snack bar, etc.

A few images from their website.

It wasn’t too crowded with it being a weekday and all. Many times I had a poultice room all to myself. Honestly skipping work all day to sweat and bathe is my idea of heaven. I used each poultice room at least once with the Salt Room being my favorite. Though the Amethyst Gem room was without a doubt the “prettiest.” And the Red Clay rooms brought on the best instant sweat. I visited the bade pool area twice. Spending at least an hour each visit. In all we spent over 5 hours there :deco3:

Poultice rooms. I only took a few while I had a poultice room to myself. I didn’t want to bother people by using my phone. :)

My only complaint is that I wish it were ever-so-slightly closer to me. Close enough to go every other month maybe but not every other week thanks to the insanity that is DC traffic. :drops:

Yelp has more details plus their official website. I think it’s a good couples spot. The poultice rooms and everything are co-ed while the pools/lockers/all-the-naked-places are, of course, segregated (but available for both men & women.) :ok: It’s easy to meet up in the common area to visit the poultice rooms or grab a bite to eat together.

I feel so lucky to have one nearby! A few reviews from people who have been to Korea said this jjimjilbang was pretty authentic! I of course wouldn’t know so I’m happy you commented to compare!

It looks like a beautiful place~ I’m sorry the distance is an inconvenience ;_____; but it’s great that you can look forward to take a trip there once in a while!!~
In LA we have Koreatown which is filled with spas…I wish I could grab a bunch and give them to you!!!!

Yeah I hate DC traffic! I could probably go on a Sunday morning and get there in 25 minutes. Google maps states it’s 45 minutes normally but honestly getting there at none-crazy hours takes about an hour =Y Thankfully it’s 24/7 I guess :P

I’ve always wanted to visit a spa but sadly it’s too expensive for me…
Maybe next time when there’s a discount going on.

oh my god! did you get those matching t-shirt sets and the towel thing for your hair?

    lol…

I love Jjimjilbang! They are all over K-Town here in Los Angeles it’s so tempting to visit them all! They’re very relaxing and, to me, feel a bit more luxurious than western spas. :D

  12. Mandie says:

Wow, that place looks like a fantasy land. I’ve always wanted to visit a Korean spa. One day! :)

  13. Jesslyn says:

Looks so relaxing and comfortable! How I wish there’s one Korean bathhouse near my place too~ Seems like you had a wonderful day off, nice!! :)

    • jenny says:

      I feel lucky this one is only about an hour away to be honest. Usually when there’s something cool it’s more like 3 hours away… in NYC =_=;;

  14. Miho-chan says:

oh wooow! that looks gorgeous! A nice relaxing bathhouse xD after this sudden coldness here in Switzerland, I need a wellness weekend too *lol*

I’ve been to that Spa World multiple times! It’s so relaxing, and I love coming out of the poultice rooms into the amazing air conditioning and getting a melon bar by the snack bar :)) I also love going into the locker rooms to wear face masks and doing my nails!

Unfortunately, the longest I’ve ever stayed there is ~7 hours. ONE DAY I WILL GET MY 24 HRS. ONE DAY.

  17. Mary says:

Wow! This looks amazing. I never found spas appealing, but that makes me want to go.

  21. Samantha says:

The pictures on Yelp look there’s a lot of people in there all at once! Do you know what the less busy times are?

    • jenny says:

Reading the Yelp reviews I basically went with the frame of mind it’s going to be super busy no matter what. So when I got there and it wasn’t as crazy as I expected it was a nice surprise. Some people said weekends were the worst. I went on a weekday morning/afternoon and it wasn’t so bad. But I don’t know if that’s a guarantee.

  22. Lokkita says:

Looks amazing! I wish there was one close to where I live!

  23. fai says:

how nice! i wanna try korean sauna too!
