I like Zakka, a lot. I find it so inspiring and calm and peaceful. I want my life to be a Zakka life. With planning the new house decorations 1 room will be Zakka inspired. However I’ve always liked “cottage style” and Zakka is really close to that. It’s almost zen-like to me. It’s really hard to explain.
So you’re asking, “What is Zakka exactly?!”

Zakka (from the Japanese ‘zak-ka’ or ‘many things’ ) is a fashion and design phenomenon. The term refers to everything and anything that improves your home, life and outlook. It is primarily based on household items from the West that are regarded as kitsch in their countries of origin.

Zakka has also been described as “the art of seeing the savvy in the ordinary and mundane”.

There are a few rooms that I could choose to do in a Zakka style. The dining area (though small), the kitchen, or the office. All the other rooms I’ve pretty much decided on the styles (excluding all bathrooms though.) The kitchen would be easiest and I adore teapots. The office I have NO idea about. I was wanting bohemian but… yea. We’ll see. Just food for thought.

Wow, that’s interesting. I have so many ideas of how I want Chris and I’s apartment to look like. I can’t decide because I keep hearing all these neat ideas from others. I know I want tons of Asian influnce, but damn, those pictures are beautiful. Reminds me of peace and serenity.

That’s a real cute style! I think your house is going to look so amazing when you’re done with it XD My house is a different theme every room, pretty much.

i’m tempted to describe it as “empty and plain but homey” for some reason o__o; it’s cute~ how long has the style been around? I’ve noticed it from non no from a few years ago?

Cool, I didn’t realise there was a word for the style I’ve always wanted to have in my house/ life. Thanks for those links; now I know what I’ll be doing all night. ;)

I think I need to wait until I get a full-time job before I consider any interior design. Although, I am moving into an apartment soon, and I really want to decorate the walls in a unique way. Originally, I was thinking about having floor to ceiling curtains on all four walls, but I realized that drapery is really expensive, so I scraped that.
When you get your Zakka rooms done, you definitely need to post pictures!

Whenever I think about the “house of my dreams” I can’t decide which one would be best suited for me:
On the one hand, I’d like a small apartment in the city, practical, sophisticated and decorated in a very 21st century style.
On the other hand… since my origins are from the countryside, there’s always a part of me that wants to have a big house in the suburbs with the backyard, front lawn, 2 floors, lots of cats and dogs, and whatever. Decorated like a true countryhouse. Maybe one day I’ll show a picture of what I have in mind.
