Oktoberfest Sunday

Monday, October 10th, 2011 | 51 Comments

On Sunday there was a local Oktoberfest. Ate some bratwurst, caramel corn, and walked around. The weather was perfect. An amazing clear autumn day. Cool but not chilly.

Tunic - Yesstyle
Jeggings - Target
Bag - Marc by Marc Jacobs
Sandals - Urban Outfitters

Lebkuchen! It’s like a baked soft gingerbread with sweet icing decoration. They started selling these at the festival a few years ago. Apparently they’re from some German bakery in Va but I’ve never visited it. I bought some cinnamon black tea to enjoy with the sweet! Great combination since lebkuchen is a bit on the dry side.

I had today off work for Columbus Day. I did my best to stay UN-BUSY. I haven’t really been around online much. Usually when I have a holiday like this I end up busting ass to clean the house or run errands but I really need some “breaks” so I mostly napped today. Did return something to H&M tonight though, and did a few loads of laundry. Oh well

What a cute event! I’m jealous, you’re still able to wear short sleeves even when it’s almost the middle of October! I already dug out my winter jackets, haha. (:

I also find myself way too occupied on these long holiday weekends, it’s always cleaning or catching up with the endless list of things to do.

Such a lovely event! We don’t have any sorts of festivals here~ except Oktoberfest beer /pub ads are everywhere. Lol~ Hope you had some quality rest and recharge time! I totally took my Sunday off and had 12 hours of sleep, haha! cute gingerbread! :3

Your whole look is so subtly ‘Oktoberfest appropriate’ here, I love it, haha ♥ I haven’t had lebkuchen since I was 7 & lived in Germany! The cinnamon black tea pairing sounds so good too~
Glad you had a pretty restful ‘holiday’!

I never went to Oktoberfest before but I’m sure I’d totally enjoy their food there.

When I get a day off, that’s usually my time to run my errands as well because really, that’s the only free time I have to do these things. It’s a bit annoying sometimes. But yeah, for the sake of sanity, it’s good every now and then to actually take a break on an off-day. xD

Same situation here. Even when you have free time away from one thing it usually shifts to another “task.” It’s a struggle to get ACTUAL “free time.” I have to plan it, it never happens on its own.

yeah i do my best to stay as un-busy as possible during weekends nowadays too ~ maybe it has to do with getting older, but i get tired so much more easily now ! haha

love your outfit as usual ~! x)

jenny said

I think also you don’t realize but you have SO much more to “get down” as you get older too.

I read that you ate “camel corn” at first instead of “carmel corn” -_- I was like “is that an East coast thing?!?!”

Ah, I’d love to attend an Oktoberfest one day! We’ve got a pretty big one in Kitchener (in Ontario) but I want to do a semester of Uni in London and nip over to Germany and celebrate there. The German club at my uni was talking about organising a trip to the one in Kitchener but it doesn’t seem likely that they’ll go through with it. It seems like a lot of fun though- food and polka! Cute shirt too

Octoberfest, a piece of real German culture, hahaha! I’ve never been to the real october fest in Munich, though! It is way too expensive and too far from where I live

I really love the fotot from you and the Lebkuchenherz! Na dann Prost (It means cheers, but I’m sure you’ll know that)

Oh instagram users use Olympus too? I thought it was just an iPhone app. Though you could upload Olympus photos to iPhone & do it that way. I just did that to send my friend some photos

OMFG. They have it everywhere? Seriously? Where i live, we have many germany families, so this sweet turned out as a “regional sweet”! We eat this all year, but they are most eaten on Christmas♥ The icing decoration here is made of Glacê. I never went to a Oktoberfest, but i wish i could♥

jenny said
October 11, 2011 @ 5:34 pm

You talking about the Lebkuchen??? Ah yeah well it’s here at least and seems Oktoberfest festivals are celebrated around the world given many above comments. Yeah, the non-traditional hearts only and sold at this festival and not at xmas like usual. But people just want anything German at these festivals so they serve them up!

It’s pretty much like the “pão de mel”(honey cake), but have different ingredients right? Gingerbread is also really tasty :3

aaah that outfit + braid is perfect for oktoberfest! here, we don’t have any proper celebration for it, so many of my friends went to germany for a weekend! but i hear it’s all about drinking beer, which i don’t really like, so it might not be my thing.
looks like you have warm weather still btw, lucky you!
