Mascara

I was trying out some new mascara I picked up and decided to do a quick sort of review on the drugstore mascaras I bought in ‘08!

some look old but it’s just wear & tear from my make-up bag~!

I originally wanted to pick up some of the new Colossal Volum’ Express mascara because I used my sister’s and liked it a lot! But sadly they don’t have a waterproof version of it . I prefer waterproof because I wear contacts which makes my eyes water a bit and non-waterproof ends up clumping in the corner of my eye and looking GROSS. I know some people LOATHE waterproof but really just a quick dab of eye-make remover takes it off easily! I’ve come to like Neutrogena’s Oil-Free Eye makeup remover

waterproof or not you should be using a product to cleanse your eye-make and not drying soap~

I actually like my eyelashes~ they’re fairly long and black and aren’t too thin. I say this just to give you an idea of my base point. And like I said, these are DRUGSTORE BRANDS so all are under $10.00

1: Define-A-Lash Volume Mascara
So far I’m liking it! It’s great at separating out the lashes & coating each one. And after 12 hours of wear no flaking. The thing I’m really liking about it though is that once curled it keeps the lashes curled all day!! I haven’t had to bust out my eyelash curler at all again
On the downside though I don’t see the “Volume” part. Really it makes my lashes look a bit thinner because it separates them so well.

2: Full ‘N Soft Mascara
This one is nice for a work look. It’s not over dramatic and adds a ton of feathery volume. That said the formula isn’t so great and it begins to flake off after a few hours of wear. If it didn’t flake so much it could have easily been a non-stop favorite.

3: Volum’ Express Mascara
Hands down a must in my bag. Fell in love with this in High School after going through many other brands. It’s a good stable mascara. Gives nice volume never clumps or flakes (I’ve NEVER seen this stuff flake!) Decent separating of lashes and lasts from day to night. It’s only shortcoming is that it doesn’t add dramatic length or volume and it doesn’t hold curled lashes for more than a few hours. Nevertheless I recommend this one to any newcomers to the world of mascara~

4: Sky High Curves Mascara
Since I have long lashes already I like mascaras that promote curls!! This is a pretty good one. It does help curl the lashes more than other mascaras and holds it pretty well. However after a few hours it begins to flake some, but not much.

5: Voluminous Mascara
Amazing volume horrible formula. The volume IS great and thick and fantastic but this stuff flakes the minute it’s done drying! Not to mention terrible clumping on the lashes. I wouldn’t recommend this at all :downarrowtime:

That’s it! I’m off to bed. Mike’s already fallen asleep (yet I just accidentally woke up) and I guess I should try to get SOME sleep.

I’ve been looking for a good makeup remover… I think I’ll try that one! Thanks for the reccommendation :3

Awesome mascara review too! Drugstore mascaras never measure up imo, but you’ve got me wanting to try out the Volum’ Express one now for when I don’t have the extra cash to blow on Dior Show, lol!

I love posts like this! I’ve been meaning to try the Define-A-Lash one since it won Allure’s editor thing! You should try using two different mascaras at the same time to get what you want! I haven’t done it yet but after buying D-A-L I’m going to experiment

“ね〜 ハチ which mascara do you use?”
“COLOSSAL VOLUME EXPRESS!!!!!! BOW TO ME!!”

^ I only saw the advert once, but it really convinced me.

(though I haven’t actually bought it yet, still haven’t finished Masterpiece max)

I agree with your review though, Define-a-lash is definitely the best I’ve tried. It just doesn’t budge! It was still on a day later

i would also recommend the volum express mascara! the ones they have only in asia are the best! they really don’t smudge at all!

I use Rimmel Magnif-Eyes mascara and really like it. I always use waterproof too! And I then use Nivea Lotion to remove any make-up I wear. Definitely the best thing I’ve found for the job

thanks for the reviews! i currently use define a lash and love it! i have short, stubborn lashes that dont stay curled but define a lash really keeps them curled the whole day!

Nice reviews! I have long lashes, too. I hate to use the curler because sometimes my eyelashes will touch my face up my by eyebrows which is a freaky feeling @_@ LOL

Thanks for the reviews! This is very helpful. I usually just use Revlon Great Lash mascara, you know the green and pink one, because that is all I know, heh heh. I don’t pay enough attention to the products I use but I think I should try new things. So thank you for the help!

Haha, there is something about the term COLOSSAL VOLUM’ EXPRESS that just makes me giggle - it’s like they threw words in a hat and just picked stuff.

Hey! I like your new layout but I get wordpress errors at the top :\ maybe it’s just me. I’m using FireFox 3.

I don’t think I’ve tried ANY of those because I’m still stuck on Bourjois at Sephora. I tried looking for the one I use on the sit, but it’s not there. It came in waterproof as well D: and was only $13!

Well, I should probably try those mascaras too since you did a lovely review

Mascara is my favorite cosmetic product to use! I love my Dior Show but I might give some drugstore brands a try :]

I use the same Neutrogena makeup remover and I love it too haha

Me and mascara have a love hate relationship. My lashes are thick and long and ANNOYING. They fall out often and when I cry they become heavy feeling. I keep seeing that one Drew Barrimore advertises, in the orange tube. I wonder if it does all it says, the ad looks so photoshopped ahaha

Woohoo! Go drugstore brands!

I have the Full ‘N Soft Mascara, but I hardly ever use it since I don’t wear make up often.

Aw, you’re lucky you have naturally long eye-lashes. I have short eye-lashes and I don’t think any amount of mascara will help me even though that doesn’t keep me from putting it on when I want to “put on my face.”

I find that vaseline (so multi-use!) is great for removing eye-makeup. I just wipe it on a cotton swab, then wipe my eyes and everything comes off.

tell me about it! i’ve been avoiding going to the movies for nearly a year and then ‘benjamin button’ came out and i had to see it! when i got there, to my horror, prices have gone up!!! :o but luckily i had a voucher *phew*

i haven’t been wearing/into make up for a long time to have tried different mascaras. my lashes are quite long for an asian but they are very thin and few, therefore i need more volume. i’m like you- i prefer the waterproof ones because i wear contacts and my eyes are very watery, even without contacts. ^^;;

i have a lancome hypnose sample mascara & the max factor aqualash. i like the max factor one more but i don’t think it holds my curls in for long enough. garnier make-up wipes for sensitive skin is what i use to remove make up! ^^

Definitely got a few off that list. I use the Define-A-Lash and the Volum’ Express….combined methinks. I also use a lash comb to sort of those clumps (Tweezerman iLash Comb) I really like Nivea Visage Gentle Eye Make-Up Remover
