Sukiyaki and Hair Scans

Sunday July 11, 2010

Went and had sukiyaki today! Delicious as always~ :hungry: It’s been a while since I’ve had it. It’s really a winter-type food (at least in my mind) but with a cool drink I can enjoy it all year long! The mushrooms were especially delicious this time :piggy:

This is at a place called Aji-Nippon in Bethesda. :kissyheart: There’s a web site that says they’re closed on Sundays but that’s not true~~ :toto:

Ended the meal with some refreshing watermelon. :happylove: Watermelon has been REALLY good this season. :ureshii: I bought some last week and it was really sweet too like these pieces~~

Then I grabbed some froyo & fruit :twinklepink: and walked around a bit in the intense heat. :girlrage: I was going to layout in the sun today but I just didn’t feel well enough too. :F I just felt like mellowing out all weekend~ so lazy. :facepalmcry:

I’m feeling better today but I slept in really late despite getting to bed sooner than usual. :supercry: It’s not like me. :;_;: I’m just super paranoid because people at work have been getting sick and coming in anyway!! :ashock:

Some scans
I scanned in some hair arranges and curling iron overviews a few weeks ago.
Some people were asking me how I get my bangs to do that fluffy-side thing, like this….

FULL SCAN HERE!

I use a straight iron like above and twist as I straighten. :rose1: The full scan has like 4 other tutorials included. :good: Though today it’s official, I can no longer do front bangs! :dizzy: My bangs are too long. I’m not gonna puss out and cut them either! >O I’m gonna stick this through and fully grow out my bangs! At least for 2 more months… haahaa! If I like it I’ll keep it, if not I’ll cut them again and make them long so I can do the side curl bang look! :okicon:

Some helpful tips!
巻き – curling/rolling
外 – outward/back/away from face
内 – inward/forward/towards the face
平 – underneath/parallel to the floor towards the face
ミックス巻き – mix curling with forward & back

A little video on basic mix curling style~

Mixed style *_* is the most common form of curling style with most of the arranges. It’s just back & forth on different layers or levels of your hair. :)

There are some hair arranges and also a sorta styling tools overview from Popteen including curling irons and flat irons :faceaha:

I have the 25 mm Vidal sasson curling iron they mention in one of these scans that i got in Japan, and I love it soo much! It heats up super quickly, and works really well on my rather stubborn hair!

  2. Charlene says:

Oh, I do something very similar to that curl! Because I’m only growing my bangs out enough to get them properly cut for a side sweep — when they get long but at that annoying stage where it isnt long enough to do anything, I take the straight iron, curl them in right under (80’s style oooooohoho) and them take a brush and sweep it to the side :)

And that food looks so goood. I’ve been in such a mood for dduk lately ;_; guess I gotta learn to make my own. Haha

    • jenny says:

Ah yea, I learned how to make sukiyaki but it’s not the same at home~ more fun to go out for it & let someone else clean up the mess ;X! LOL

  3. emma says:

sometimes i wish i had long hair tooo!!
yeah sukiyaki definitely is a winter food we eat it a lot with lamb slices XD

  4. sidney says:

woo hoo, i’m with you on the growing your bangs out train!! whenever i want to cut them really badly (uh, like every other day -_-) i’ve been telling myself that no-bangs is perfect for summer. the heat + bangs = my forehead will break out like crazy for sure!! not to mention bang tan-lines on your face lol~~
STILL it’s so hard D: the occasional no-bangs inspiration you put up on tumblr helps, though X)

    • jenny says:

Haahaa I’m glad the no bangs inspiration is benefiting someone else! I should post some here so I have a post I can just jump to when I’m feeling fed up!

  5. Honeydew says:

Ah, it’s been soooooooo hot where I live (about 43C) that I haven’t been using my straight flat iron to straighten my hair because I don’t want that “extra heat” on top of my head. @_@ So instead, I just bring a bottle of water with me and spray on my hair when it gets too frizzy. :(

  6. Fatiha says:

the sukiyaki looks REALLY good~ ^^ i agree that watermelon tastes super this season~ yummy~ the fluffy-side thing you do with your hair is adorable~ ^_^ i wuv it!

    • jenny says:

Thanks so much! Yea, when (if, I guess) I go back to bangs (when, lol) I’ll continue to do the fluffy look XD

  7. Winn says:

what’s in the bowl bottom left first pic? I looove sukiyaki~~~
that and nabe and hotpot makes excellent winter dishes :9
    I’m tempted to get a new hair straightener but I already have one ; _ ;

  8. Nicole says:

Jenny! Have you been trimming your eyebrows really short and filling them in with powder? I remember you saying you’ve thought about it a few times, but I don’t remember if you said you actually did it. But your brows look lighter in the close-up photo. Just wondering~ :D

Either way, they look great! :D

    • jenny says:

Actually I have for a few months now but only a few weeks ago did I switch from black pencil to brown. It shows up WAAY more light brown in photos than in real life which is strange~ it’s more subtle in person =T

  9. f says:

“I’m not gonna puss out and cut them either!”

    AHAHAHAH! You are great.

  10. Zoraida says:

Nommmmm you make me so hungryyyyy X)

Watermelon has been really good this year hasn’t it? *wants some now*

I FOUND A STYLING SOLUTION FOR MYSELF! Since I’m also growing out my bangs (along with you, Veronica and Sidney) I find that parting my ‘bangs’ in a z fashion frames my face nicely. I’ve stopped having the ‘cut your bangs NOW!’ urge :D

    • jenny says:

Ah yea, good for volume too! I’m wearing mine like that today actually but I just wish they were long enough to tuck behind my ears. I hate the feeling of hair in my eyeballs when I lean forward at my desk all day LOL

  11. diana says:

bookmarked! thank you so much :D i always enjoy your posts about hair and styles! ^_^

  12. Cindy W says:

Thanks for the curling iron and styling scans! Now I know how they do it in the magazines!
I’m on my way to more fun styles! Yay!

  13. ada says:

I didn’t try this mix curling style, it’s really helpful, I should practise it, THANK U!

  14. Tori says:

    You’re so gorgeous~~!! *jealous* lol ❤
Both the sukiyaki & the watermelon look delicious~ watermelon is by far my favourite summer fruit & I agree, it has been really good this year!
Thank you for the hair arrange scans from Popteen~ the ones from PopSister are equally lovely, though some of them I wonder if anyone but the models can pull off (like Jun’s, haha! XD)

    • jenny says:

LOL at Jun’s. I know right? A lot of times I see these things, especially this b/c the crimping is SO 80’s, and think “…this is easier to get away with as cute in Japan…” even though I LOVE it and would consider doing it~~

  15. Sasa says:

    Amazing post!
    Thank you so much c:
I love hair tuts and tips, so all this will be really useful ❤~

  16. Twinkle says:

Thanks for the scans! I had no idea girls were intentionally getting their bangs to curl that way; mine do it naturally and it annoys me to no end! I tried growing my bangs out and they got to my lips but then I caved and got them recut. My forehead is way too broad to not be covered by bangs. :(

Although this cut/style on the bottom right of this picture (http://sushi-cat.net/pics/other/7_11_10_9big.jpg) is making me want to reconsider growing out my bangs!

  17. Alyse says:

Thanks for the scans! Super helpful ^w^)//
That sukiyaki looks goood! One of my favorite things to eat too!♥

  18. Ys says:

I’m so glad my hair curls naturally – I’m far too lazy to do anything with it ;D

Ooh and that food looks YUMMY. I’m so hungry now.

  19. Veronica says:

Thanks for the scans! I need to figure out what to do with my hair for the big day *biting nails more now* I really love the last one on the bottom left with the half braid thing – kind of beach-y!

have you seen those mini Conair curlers? They had one that is a tiny 1″ curler and I really wanted it since I love tiny things, haha but I think it would just take forever to do your whole head! Drat.

    Lookin’ cute Jen!

  20. Becca says:

i don’t have bangs anymore.. and i always hated ironing them :P

  21. Linda says:

    thanks for the scanss :D

  22. Sara Mari says:

I agree sukiyaki is very yummy! I’d be eating it more for sure if I had a faster metabolism! haha. Well there’s also shabu shabu. No! I can’t talk about it anymore it makes me hungry for protein haha!

Thank for writing the kanji of the different curling methods. When I curl my hair I don’t put any serious thought into it, I think thats my problem haha. But the mix curling seems like that I should be trying to do. I will try it out next time.

All the scans of the models’ curls are impressive. I have to try to achieve that!

  23. レイカ says:

    thanks for the scans!
i’m working in a english campin china for the summer, and the only fruit we get served is watermelon!! whenever we go into town to get fruit, we but LOTS and than barder/sell them to each other when our supply is getting low

lol, but its totally worth it to be able to see chinese editions of ViVi and SCawaii!!

  24. Kat says:

my bangs grow super fast, so i’m thinking of possibly growing them out? Great hair scans by the way! I like the hair arrange because i usually do it if i have time and plus at work, i get compliments.

  25. Thao says:

That intermediate stage of growing out your bangs is always annoying for me. Too long for cute bangs and too short to move it aside properly.

Hope you get well soon and not catch anything serious! Fluids and vitamins and hand-washing! XD

  26. Clairey says:

Cute scans, may try some. Thank you so much for commenting on my blog, I love all comments ^^ yummy food is yummy haha :)

  27. Cimmybug says:

The fluffy fringe thing is SOOOO CUTE!!!

  28. Cimmybug says:

Jenny, it has always puzzled me, where do you come from and are you japanese?

  29. Genevieve says:

Oooo wow, the sukiyaki looks DELISH! :D

Thanks for that little Japanese tutorial! :D

My bangs are ALMOST long enough to tuck behind my ears. I’m really excited about that LOL

  30. chocoNIKKI says:

Sukiyaki! *noms* I love eating this at home in the winter too~
    I wish I could have it more often in the summer, but my mom says we’d all die from the heat… -o-;;
I think the thinly sliced shabu-shabu lamb is the best with it, hehe!

  31. Kayano says:

it’s currently winter in Australia and my family and i have sukiyaki almost everyday for dinner.
it’s coz we’re cold and lazy haha xD

ohhh and thanks for those scans on how to curl your bangs!
    thank you Jenny =D

you’re looking as gorgeous as ever

  32. Courtney says:

Never had sukiyaki, but sounds wonderful. Agree, though, I wanna wait until winter~ I love seasonal foods and think certain foods taste best in certain seasons, definitely. :3

I do like that sweet curved bangs… Should try it~

  33. Nana says:

I love mix-curling! I remember watching a video of a Japanese hair stylist that I often see in magazines (I forget her name!) And she said that usually they mix-curl models hair ^ ^

I think its super kawaii keke ^ ^

  34. Bianca says:

Love the fringe so retro chic!!

Thanks for the helpful tips I’m lost when it comes to curling and its so hard to find a good tutorial. That Soup/Hot Pot looks good, is the broth flavorful as well? I have bad experience with hot pot and its so hard to find in Chicago. We dominate wit sushi but , i mean I need some variety.

AND IM GUNNA FIND SOME FROYO! The korean kind anyway…oh I will…

  35. rene says:

I LOVE sukiyaki too!! The soup base is so sweet and refreshing! I got a question. What is that dish in the first pic? Do I see sliced apples soaked in some sauce?

You look so fair and sweet! :*)

Thanks for the scan! I can try out the bangs tutorial. Hee!!

  36. Jess says:

i don´t like japanese food but this seems good!!!
