Dayan Cafe

I wanted to post my photos of Dayan Cafe~ I think back to this place a lot. Actually, I didn’t know anything about Dayan or the Wachi Field World until this trip. But I kept coming upon the DVDs, books, and shops and quickly loved it! The artistic design of Dayan is so appealing to me~ cute but with a slight sinister look. I was so tempted to buy the box set but it was $160

Wachi Field is the imaginary world created by the author and illustrator, Akiko Ikeada, where the main character, a cat named Dayan, adventures with his friends. The story brings to life not only the animals and creatures of fairy stories, but also the trees, wind and moon and others. Through imagination and beautiful imagery – Dayan finds a place in everyone’s heart. [from wachifield.com]

There’s a Wachi Field store in Kichijoji that I saw earlier on in my trip. It had a Wachi Field gachapon outside by the entrance! I actually got Dayan!!! I usually always get my most undesired object with gachagacha

Then there is the Wachi Field Cafe in Shinjuku that sells Dayan & Wachi Field related goods on 2 levels and on the 3rd floor there’s a cafe! Everything from the dishes to the desserts are Dayan themed~ The staircase walls are brightly painted from top to bottom with Wachi Field silhouettes.

We (me, Mike & my friend) ordered tea, tiramisu, pancakes, and mixed fruit jelly. :piggy:

A sign advertising all the mini-towels for sale! Can you spot mine!?

Actually the waitress here spilled ice water all over me. Drenched. But honestly it was so hot out I couldn’t have cared less! She was so, so apologetic that I felt bad lol! She didn’t charge us for nearly half our order hahaha. And a bonus, I didn’t buy anything at Alta shopping plaza because peeling off wet shorts & underwear to try on clothes is entirely unappealing, haahaaaaa! Thus, money saved! Ha!

I flew All Nippon Airways (ANA) this time only because it was the only carrier with a direct flight from DC to Tokyo. DIRECT. FLIGHT. 2 years ago direct flights didn’t exist at any of the 3 international airports here, so to say I was excited is an understatement!!!

ANA has fantastic service, hands down, but their breakfast choices are a bit strangeChimachanga on the way to Tokyo and on the way back breakfast was a BBQ hamburger. Yes it’s BREAKFAST because it’s served at breakfast time & with yogurt.

I hadn’t eaten one of these since my EARLY college years.

    • jenny says:

You’re welcome! I’m surprised how little there is on it online too. I thought I’d find A LOT of english blogs/sites talking about it but not really =Y

  4. Honeydew says:

Aw…your tail accessory is SO CUTE! And that coffee with the cat paws design is such a cute and creative idea too! :)

    • jenny says:

Why thank you! It’s a little de-fluffed because it’s half wet. i took this photo AFTER leaving the cafe so I was already soaked :P

  5. Leslie says:

OMG!I’ve been fan of your blog since you did the magazines scans! like 3-4 years! I follow up your make up reviews! I love it, and it’s so awesome you had good time in Japan!

    • jenny says:

Wow, THANK YOU!!! Ah, I’m sorry I don’t scan like I used to. LJ comm does such a good, quick job that I sorta point people there now, but I do miss it sometimes :D.

  6. M says:

  7. Shirley says:

  8. Zoraida says:

    WANT!

Everything is so cute~ He does have a kind of sinister look to him .. reminds me of the Cheshire Cat but not pink and purple! Hahaha :P

  9. Thao says:

AWWWWWWW EVERYTHING IS SO CUTE. I love how they decorate the food with the little paw prints and such. My desire to learn Japanese and go to Japan just increased exponentially. I actually have never heard of Wachifield, but will definitely check it out. It looks very lovable.

Haha, Chimachanga. A beautiful way to start the day.

  10. Melissy says:

WOW! I love all these themed places.
They make me feel like I’m in another world~
Somehow it reminds me of the theme park in Spirited Away. :)

  11. Tasja says:

    woaaahhh so sweeeeeettt :D!!

    I like the sugar paws

  12. jayjayne says:

  13. Veronica says:

This place is fantastic! The paw prints are the coolest thing I’ve ever seeeeen

I love that kind of illustration – it’s like Watershipdown except NOT DEPRESSING LOL

  14. Vermillion says:

Thank you for sharing photos! Everything looks so cute and delicious!! I hope I can visit that store oneday. ^^

  15. Tori says:

omgosh, that cafe looks too adorable!! & the food looks YUMMY! ♥
I love that photo of you hugging the sign too, haha~ so cute! & I spy a fox tail, yay! :Dyy

    • jenny says:

You know it! I actually saw quite a lot of fox tails, especially in Shibuya (o’ course.) I got this one because I really liked the ringed-look ones! XD

  16. Nami says:

Aww, that is quite a cute character indeed. And still think that hand towel is so cute!!

What a story about the waitress spilling water, I could just imagine a Japanese waitress going all “sumimasen, sumimasen!!”, poor girl XD.
Reminds me when I was in France this summer it was SO HOT and I kept spilling my drinks all over me (because I am a clumsy girl XD) but it dried up within minutes so I really didn’t care.

I love themed cafes/restaurants, did you go to more? *u* The cat paws on the coffee and pancakes are so cute haha..

    • jenny says:

Exactly, she was mortified! I don’t think it helped that my automatic reaction was loud gasp, frozen posture, and gaping mouth. But it couldn’t be helped… ICE WATER!

I did go to quite a few lovely cafes! Though many I forgot to take photos of :(

  17. Thanh Thao says:

I really love Cafes, but this was was the cutest I’ve ever seen! Waaaaa, I love cats so much and the cat themed food is soo lovely it’s almost a pity to eat, hahaha!

    • jenny says:

Yea! And I like how the tiramisu was made & served in a cute cup rather than sliced from a bigger piece & served on a plate.

  18. Rachel says:

The food looks so delicious!! Mmm yummy! When you went to Japan did your friend mostly tag along to help with translation? Or did you know some Japanese to get around alone?

    • jenny says:

I only met up with my friend about half the time. The rest was just me & the guy solo! I know some Japanese, limited elementary level so I can shop for things, ask basic questions, order food, take trains, taxis, buses & so on fairly easy.

  19. Jing says:

Why do the Japanese always make everything so freak’n cute?! They pay so much attention to details it’s ridiculous (in a good way, of course!). LOL, anyway, I’ve never heard of Wachi Field before, so thanks for sharing :)

  20. Lanna says:

:O I have never heard of this….its so cute!!!If i ever get to Japan I will have to go!:D
I am so lusting after a fox tail:D

    • jenny says:

I actually saw cheap fox tails at H&M & was shocked! SHOCKED!
“If you ever” psshaw, you totally will when life settles, I know it XD

  21. Nicole says:

This was actually my first time hearing about Dayan! How cute! *O*
    That cafe is just adorable, too. *sigh* There are no cafes in my town, so I really miss the ones in Japan. I’m also craving milk tea like crazy. D;

I really wish Pittsburgh would have a direct flight, but I know that won’t happen…in my lifetime, at least. Since I go to Sapporo when I go to Japan, I end up taking three flights. Cutting back, even a little, on flight time would be just lovely. XD Sometimes I wish I lived on the west coast, haha. But I love east coast life too much.

    • jenny says:

      Same here, DC has cafes but they’re kinda ALL the same. That sorta stuck up hipster modern espresso only vibe type of cafe. =_=;

Ugh yea, I’ve totally thought about how lucky west coast folks are when it comes to Japan traveling!!!

  22. aireen says:

hi jenny! welcome back :) hope you get adjusted quickly & become “normal” again :P
i just realized i’ve been reading this (since forever i was under a different alias before) & haven’t left you a comment in forever. for some reason i thought i had to sign up for something which is why i avoided it.
anyway, looking forward to more posts! :D

    • jenny says:

Oh my no, no signing up required! Not even an email in the email text box either *shhh, most people don’t know that XD*
Glad you took a moment to say hello! HELLO! :D

  23. JL says:

Wow! I didn’t know Dayan was so big over there! I read a picture book when learning to read Japanese a while ago, and I remembered I really like the drawings… but for the life of me I couldn’t remember the title! Now I know; thanks!

It sounds like you had an amazing time in Japan; looking forward to more updates!

  24. hiika says:

    WELCOME BACK JENNY!!!!!!!!!!! -hugs-
It looks liek you had a phenomenal time despite feeling pretty bad at the beginning :D
I’ve never heard of Dayan but look at your photos and at the website, I’m now *0* and a huge convert!!! Everything is so cute with a slightly sinister edge!!! AHHHH I WANT DAYAN STUFF NOWWWW -wail- The desserts you guys got look absolutely DELISH. One thin I love about Japanese desserts is that they’re sweet but usually not too sweet – I don’t know, maybe not as……. icing sweet as treats in NA? Probably since they barely ever use icing looool To my extreme happiness since I hate and feel like hurling when I smell/taste icing. blagh.
LOL at the ANA food – that’s really really random. I’ve never heard of such unique breakfast items before hahahaha.
I’m so glad you guys got back safe and sound and feeling great ^_^

    • jenny says:

      THANK YOU DARLING! *HUGGGGS*
I really wish I had bought MORE Dayan goods now, looking back. I really, really wanted dishes! But I was too scared they’d break on the flight back :(

  25. mishi says:

OMG, that’s a cute cafe!! Count me in as another person who hasn’t heard about it before. LOL @ hugging the sign, that’s awesome.

I’m loving all of these pictures =3

    • jenny says:

I’m started to not feel so bad about not knowing about WachiField now that lots of people haven’t heard of it either XD

  26. priincess says:

this cafe is so CUTEEE! I love how it has the paw prints on the coffeee!

  27. Genevieve says:

Haha that Dayan kitteh is too cute! I love the paw prints on the coffee. It’s like he stepped in your drink then pressed his face on your pancakes! XD

  28. Fatiha says:

once again, your pictures make me wish i was there with you ^_^ the food looks really yummy!! and the cafe’s so cute!!! i really want to go to japan now… O_O haha. and ANA sounds pretty interesting~ ^^ direct flights are the best.

Jenny fighting! can’t wait until your next post~ ^^

  33. Lo♥ says:

SUCH A CUTE PLACE!!! & that looks sooooo yummie!!

  34. Kelli says:

I love Japanese breakfasts and will even eat things like leftover roasts for breakfast, but bbq and chimichangas? Wha? Too much…seasonings, I think, for the morning. I’m happy for you about the direct flight. Since I live in a hub city I’ve only flown directly to Japan. Lucky me. The whimsical decorations in the cafe are great, and the paw prints are adorable! I would have to order that drink with paw prints! More things should be decorated with paw prints. They make me smile. Your blog does, too. It’s a happy place!

    • jenny says:

Even came with salsa! LOL, yea, seasoning indeed! I’m glad my blog can make you smile! Tis all I want! XDv This is definitely my HAPPY PLACE

  35. Becca says:

my auntie got me a bracelet from there… I didn’t know there was an entire collection of kitty products xD sooo cute!

    and..haha chimachunga..lawls..thats surreal

    • jenny says:

I hope you can too! I think you guys have more variety than I do in DC. DC is pretty business-oriented so cuteness is usually hard to find ;(

  38. Twinkle says:

Ahhh Dayan!! My boyfriend’s mother bought me all of the Dayan books last year and I love them. That hand towel you purchased is so adorable and I love that there’s an entire cafe devoted to Dayan. The confectioner’s sugar paw prints are too cute!

  42. Rui says:

    haha i wouldn’t mind a Chimachanga for breakfast x’]
    that cafe is adorable! especially the paw prints on the food :}

    • jenny says:

I’ll admit, I ate the entire thing LOL. I was trying to trick my stomach into thinking it was lunch because it was noon time when we landed.

  43. Maria Madhalena says:
