Dayan Cafe

Dayan Cafe
I wanted to post my photos of Dayan Cafe~ I think back to this place a lot. Actually, I didn’t know anything about Dayan or the Wachi Field World until this trip. But I kept coming upon the DVDs, books, and shops and quickly loved it! The artistic design of Dayan is so appealing to me~ cute but with a slight sinister look. I was so tempted to buy the box set but it was $160
Wachi Field is the imaginary world created by the author and illustrator, Akiko Ikeada, where the main character, a cat named Dayan, adventures with his friends. The story brings to life not only the animals and creatures of fairy stories, but also the trees, wind and moon and others. Through imagination and beautiful imagery – Dayan finds a place in everyone’s heart. [from wachifield.com]
There’s a Wachi Field store in Kichijoji that I saw earlier on in my trip. It had a Wachi Field gachapon outside by the entrance! I actually got Dayan!!! I usually always get my most undesired object with gachagacha

Then there is the Wachi Field Cafe in Shinjuku that sells Dayan & Wachi Field related goods on 2 levels and on the 3rd floor there’s a cafe! Everything from the dishes to the desserts are Dayan themed~ The staircase walls are brightly painted from top to bottom with Wachi Field silhouettes.
We (me, Mike & my friend) ordered tea, tiramisu, pancakes, and mixed fruit jelly. :piggy:

Actually the waitress here spilled ice water all over me. Drenched. But honestly it was so hot out I couldn’t have cared less! She was so, so apologetic that I felt bad lol! She didn’t charge us for nearly half our order hahaha. And a bonus, I didn’t buy anything at Alta shopping plaza because peeling off wet shorts & underwear to try on clothes is entirely unappealing, haahaaaaa! Thus, money saved! Ha!
I flew All Nippon Airways (ANA) this time only because it was the only carrier with a direct flight from DC to Tokyo. DIRECT. FLIGHT. 2 years ago direct flights didn’t exist at any of the 3 international airports here, so to say I was excited is an understatement!!!
ANA has fantastic service, hands down, but their breakfast choices are a bit strange… Chimachanga on the way to Tokyo and on the way back breakfast was a BBQ hamburger. Yes it’s BREAKFAST because it’s served at breakfast time & with yogurt.

I hadn’t eaten one of these since my EARLY college years.

Everything is so cute~ He does have a kind of sinister look to him .. reminds me of the Cheshire Cat but not pink and purple! Hahaha :P
-
AWWWWWWW EVERYTHING IS SO CUTE. I love how they decorate the food with the little paw prints and such. My desire to learn Japanese and go to Japan just increased exponentially. I actually have never heard of Wachifield, but will definitely check it out. It looks very lovable.
Haha, Chimachanga. A beautiful way to start the day.
-
WOW! I love all these themed places.
They make me feel like I’m in another world~
Somehow it reminds me of the theme park in Spirited Away. :) -

omgosh, that cafe looks too adorable!! & the food looks YUMMY! ♥
I love that photo of you hugging the sign too, haha~ so cute! & I spy a fox tail, yay! :Dyy -
Aww, that is quite a cute character indeed. And still think that hand towel is so cute!!
What a story about the waitress spilling water, I could just imagine a Japanese waitress going all “sumimasen, sumimasen!!”, poor girl XD.
Reminds me when I was in France this summer it was SO HOT and I kept spilling my drinks all over me (because I am a clumsy girl XD) but it dried up within minutes so I really didn’t care.I love themed cafes/restaurants, did you go to more? *u* The cat paws on the coffee and pancakes are so cute haha..
-
I really love Cafes, but this was was the cutest I’ve ever seen! Waaaaa, I love cats so much and the cat themed food is soo lovely it’s almost a pity to eat, hahaha!
-
The food looks so delicious!! Mmm yummy! When you went to Japan did your friend mostly tag along to help with translation? Or did you know some Japanese to get around alone?
-
Why do the Japanese always make everything so freak’n cute?! They pay so much attention to details it’s ridiculous (in a good way, of course!). LOL, anyway, I’ve never heard of Wachi Field before, so thanks for sharing :)
-
:O I have never heard of this….its so cute!!!If i ever get to Japan I will have to go!:D
I am so lusting after a fox tail:D -
This was actually my first time hearing about Dayan! How cute! *O*
That cafe is just adorable, too. *sigh* There are no cafes in my town, so I really miss the ones in Japan. I’m also craving milk tea like crazy. D;I really wish Pittsburgh would have a direct flight, but I know that won’t happen…in my lifetime, at least. Since I go to Sapporo when I go to Japan, I end up taking three flights. Cutting back, even a little, on flight time would be just lovely. XD Sometimes I wish I lived on the west coast, haha. But I love east coast life too much.

hi jenny! welcome back :) hope you get adjusted quickly & become “normal” again :P
i just realized i’ve been reading this (since forever i was under a different alias before) & haven’t left you a comment in forever. for some reason i thought i had to sign up for something which is why i avoided it.
anyway, looking forward to more posts! :D -
Wow! I didn’t know Dayan was so big over there! I read a picture book when learning to read Japanese a while ago, and I remembered I really like the drawings… but for the life of me I couldn’t remember the title! Now I know; thanks!
It sounds like you had an amazing time in Japan; looking forward to more updates!
-
WELCOME BACK JENNY!!!!!!!!!!! -hugs-
It looks liek you had a phenomenal time despite feeling pretty bad at the beginning :D
I’ve never heard of Dayan but look at your photos and at the website, I’m now *0* and a huge convert!!! Everything is so cute with a slightly sinister edge!!! AHHHH I WANT DAYAN STUFF NOWWWW -wail- The desserts you guys got look absolutely DELISH. One thin I love about Japanese desserts is that they’re sweet but usually not too sweet – I don’t know, maybe not as……. icing sweet as treats in NA? Probably since they barely ever use icing looool To my extreme happiness since I hate and feel like hurling when I smell/taste icing. blagh.
LOL at the ANA food – that’s really really random. I’ve never heard of such unique breakfast items before hahahaha.
I’m so glad you guys got back safe and sound and feeling great ^_^ -
OMG, that’s a cute cafe!! Count me in as another person who hasn’t heard about it before. LOL @ hugging the sign, that’s awesome.
I’m loving all of these pictures =3

SUCH A CUTE PLACE!!! & that looks sooooo yummie!!

I love Japanese breakfasts and will even eat things like leftover roasts for breakfast, but bbq and chimichangas? Wha? Too much…seasonings, I think, for the morning. I’m happy for you about the direct flight. Since I live in a hub city I’ve only flown directly to Japan. Lucky me. The whimsical decorations in the cafe are great, and the paw prints are adorable! I would have to order that drink with paw prints! More things should be decorated with paw prints. They make me smile. Your blog does, too. It’s a happy place!
-
my auntie got me a bracelet from there… I didn’t know there was an entire collection of kitty products xD sooo cute!
& chimichangas are so good!
