Golden Half Camera Tokyo Snaps

Sunday October 10, 2010

I took my Golden Half (?) with me to Tokyo. I only took 1 roll of film which was some Agfa 200iso :) Being a 200 speed many of the photos are a bit dark. But I just love the dreamy look of the photos~ These features snaps of Shinjuku and Kichijoji mostly including a Cat Cafe in Kichijoji called Cafe Calico.

I just really liked this snap :updiamond:

I loaded up my Fisheye2 this weekend as well. :haha: I have A LOT of film left over from my lomo-obsession days and I’d like to use it up. :rose1: Plus it’s sorta fun getting back into film again. I feel nostalgic for my old hobbies sometimes.

    Great snaps!
    :D

I have to take my film to get produced too!
    I’ve been such a slacker!

    • jenny says:

I seriously usually wait foooooooooreverrrrrrrrrrrr too! I was good this time, LOL. But I still have some developed negs from a year ago I’ve yet to SCAN in so I don’t even know what’s on them anymore *fails*

    • jenny says:

Geez I just realized you commented while you countdown to ye old brain scan D: Passing the time quickly I imagine?

      • jayjayne says:

Haha, I think I have some from my last trip to HK I still haven’t produced! (SO BAD!)
Yeah, I was waiting to go in for my scan – LOL, uses up the time lor!

  2. Zoraida says:

yaaaaaaaaaaa i love this post! *3*

great photography!! i still have to use up my film rolls + get them developed but i’m lazy lazy hahaha

    • jenny says:

      I’m glad! :DDDDDDDDDDDD
Same here, I have just SO much I should use up. I used to just get the negatives developed then scan them in with my film scanner but it takes so much time =____=;; So I had these developed into prints and just scanned those in (easier.) I USED to go to Ritz where I could get the JUST the negatives developed then they’d upload the scanned negatives to my account and it was just soooooooooooooooooo much easier to share online! But they all closed down here :( It’s why my flickr died, hahahaa

  3. Genevieve says:

Nice pictures! Those kittehs are really far too cute! :D

  4. Tori says:

I love the quality of these photos too~ they look almost vintage!

  5. aw nice pix…thanks for sharing~~

  6. Honeydew says:

Ahhh…you make me want to get a golden half camera too! I’ve been fascinated by them ever since you first blogged about them on your blog. Sometimes I just miss real photo cameras because they just have that nastalgic and vintage feel to it!

I have fisheye on my Japanese docomo camera but I’ve never used it much. I should really starting using that function more often! Btw, does it cost a lot to develop films for golden half & fisheye? I haven’t developed pictures in YEARS!!!

    • Honeydew says:

I meant to say I have fisheye on my Japanese docomo cellphone camera, lol.

    • jenny says:

Yea that nostalgic retro feeling is what keeps me coming back~~
It doesn’t cost too much to have it developed + prints (around 5~7$) but DO tell them it’s a toy camera or they will FREAK when they see the negatives & think something’s wrong, LOL

  7. meli says:

cool beans! those pictures came out awsome!

    • meli says:

oh! I also have a question for you since you dont have those question things on tumblr…(Unless I didnt see it ?_?)

-from what I can put together you seem to be a fan of Sailor moon so what are your thoughts of the last season?
my parents gave me the whole collection of the sailor moon series including the very last one and since I was really young when I recived it I was confused by the fact that the other sailor scouts (fighter, healing, 3rd one) were both male and female at the same time. How old were you when you saw it and what was your reaction?

      • jenny says:

I don’t have it turned on on tumblr because I, um, dun want it. :P

LOL this question! Well I only saw Sailor R when I was a young kid, the rest I watched during High School so I found it hilarious that in the US version Sailor Mercury and Sailor Uranus were “cousins” instead of lovers (this is unrelated, sorry, lol)

But yea I saw the “Stars” series when I was 16. A lot of anime & manga at the time were really into the whole “disguise as opposite sex pop idols” trend. They weren’t both sexes like hermaphrodites or anything XD It was just a stage persona ;)

Were you scarred for life? LOL

    • jenny says:

I like that you still say “cool beans” :D

  8. Becky says:

I love the effect of the camera! It gives a very retro feel. I love the ones with the cats the most :)
And that one with the pig! Haha~ It’s cute!

That place Fujiya, is it like a sweets store?

  9. Linda says:

OMAGAHHHH that is amazing! :D i love your camera & the effect it gives to the photos :]

  10. Tasja says:

Love the effect of these pictures! They really have a vintage feeling, which is quite cool ^^
& I like it how cats randomly pop into your pictures xD

  11. Thanh Thao says:

The fotos came out so great!! I love the old look touh of the fotos so much! :-)

  12. Alyse says:

Wow, it’s really cute..!! I really want a lomo cam, but I’ve seen so many kinds @o@)’
Good stuff for a cute photo album ^___^

    • jenny says:

There really are SO, SO many to choose from. I only have 3. The golden half, a fisheye2, and a Holga 135.

      • Alyse says:

so do you have to buy special film for each camera or is a normal 32mm roll okay?

i love your sites new layout btw!! I think the pages load a little faster than before and just looks really cute but easy to get around =]

  13. Rachel says:

I have had my days of lomo obsession too. It just seems all the cameras take the same type of photos! But still fun, though. Was thinking about getting the Golden Half but then I thought it would probably collect dust like the rest of my cameras..hahaha. D:

    Your photos came out nice!

    • jenny says:

I feel the same when I randomly come across a new camera/1 I don’t have. There’s still a part of me that WANTS to buy it because I’ll always LOVE these types of photos, but honestly my 3 cameras DO collect dust. I had to literally wipe my Fisheye clean Saturday before I could use it =_=;.

  14. Ys says:

I love the effect – it looks so retro, like something taken during the 70’s or something. Cute shots :) And I’m glad you’re able to get back to your hobbies. It’s only when you reconnect with them that you realise how much you missed them, isn’t it?

  15. Jeannine says:

    Those are really nice pictures~
I bought a Hello Kitty fisheye camera not long but I haven’t used it yet D: but this post certainly makes me want to go buy a film is use it~ kekeke
And I think I might buy that same camera…it looks really cool :D

    The cat looks so big and chubby fsjrljgt you just want to squeeze them ;o;

  16. Mai says:

I love lomo cameras but never seem to remember to use them D:! I haven’t finished any of the film since a year ago because I’m always too busy playing with my digital cameras instead ): I don’t even think I can develop those films anymore since it’s been sitting in the camera for a year.

Your pictures turned out lovely & I would want to get the HK version of that camera but I don’t think I need anymore pictures x;~ Did you use a scanner to upload these :3?

    • jenny says:

They should still develop fine, just more damaged = more retro feeling :DD

Yup, scanned em & uploaded em!

      • Mai says:

Really? Cause I think I read somewhere that they can only be in the camera for so long before they won’t develop anymore. But if you’re sure then I’m gonna go finish the roll and develop them :3~ Thanks!

        • jenny says:

If you’re worried you can always tell the film tech the situation and ask them to check the negatives to make sure if any photos DID come out before having any prints made :)

  17. Veronica says:

Beautiful!! Cant wait to see what my superheadz develops! You have great compositions!

  18. Nami says:

Aghh I love lomo-pictures so much. What a special type of camera, I had never heard of it before!! I really like your snaps ^u^

Woow, so you were into lomo, huh? That’s super cool. I want to get into it but I’m too greedy thinking it’s really expensive OTL I think fisheye cameras are really cool!!

  19. Courtney says:

Nice shots~ I love the colors in these photos, too. They really have a retro feel. :)

  20. Becca says:

ah! the kitten! love! leaning tower of baskets hehehe

  21. Melissy says:

Pretty! I love looking at pictures taken using film~
Can’t wait to see those taken with the Fisheye too! :D
My favourite is the Fujiya bakery, I can see cakes inside!! Looks like haven~

  22. Ada says:

first time visiting your blog :D you currently studying in tokyo? or just leisure travelling?
anyway, hope you enjoy the rest of your stay in the most awesome city in the world U__U

  23. mishi says:

D: That’s a pretty awesome way to take pictures. How much was the camera? Strangely enough, I really like the second to last pic =3 the train station

    • jenny says:

I bought it a few years ago maybe it’s cheaper now? I think I spent like $75 on ebay because you couldn’t buy it online from a store or in any US stores at the time :( Now it’s easily available X(

  24. Bianca says:

Its so great to take snaps unlike digital cameras were we end up deleting them…the next generation will have nothing to remember us by besides our 140 character tweets…

  25. cin says:

    yayyyy great snaps!! :D
i brought my golden half with me too :D gonna develop it soon i hope~ i tend to get lazy with developing hehe

  26. Twitty says:

These are so lovely! I love photography, but my sister recently lost my camera so :(

I’ve been looking into getting a golden half after I buy my replacement digital camera. The pictures look so nice! I’m looking forward to seeing more when you have some. :)

    • jenny says:

      I actually do have some more Golden Half photos I just need to scan in the negatives which takes a while and so I’ve been lazy about it =_=;

  27. sah says:

  28. Betty says:

Thank you! I think anyone who freelance would want to strangle their clients once in a while. lol. I on the other hand, envy you for your housework. I can never manage to keep the house clean :( I remember you posted up a recipe of dumpling soup w/ cabbage and I copied it. It was yummy :)

Those snaps really seems to captured the essence of Japan *heart* I haven’t used film camera since gr.12! I do missed developing photos in the dark room though.

    • jenny says:

*Shhhhhhh* my secret is that I do a lot of the laundry on days I can work at home instead of the office ;DDDDDDD

You used to develop your own? *admires* I wanted to get into that but chickened out.

  29. winn says:

I never heard of that “Golden Half” before! I love lomos too, I have an eximus, though I don’t really use it.. I bought a Pentax instead , because the films colors were nice. I wanted to buy an Olympus Pen, but it’s a way too expensive!
