Rally Photos & Mail

The Rally on Saturday was great!
An estimated 200,000~250,000 people attended!

We got there around 10am and already there were thousands of people! But it was good, :ohyeslovely: the metro ride (green line mind you, we avoided using Red thank god!) Was packed like the Fourth of July only people were really polite & even joking with one another! (Shocking!) Last time I was on the metro for July 4th a fight almost broke out because strangers were telling people to “shut up.” =_=; But not Saturday! Saturday no one was even really talking loud!! A packed car & I could still hear myself think?! :blushingcute: Miraculous. It was quieter than a typical almost empty metro car on a Saturday morning because always some rude douches get on & start yell-conversing. But I digress. :P

We got there in time to get sorta near the first set of TVs and speakers. I heard a lot of people couldn’t hear or see. It would have been nice to have more TVs or even just speakers. I get the feeling they weren’t expecting as many people to show up! Afterward I heard they had only expected 30,000 people so set up for such. :blushingcute: :smallcry:

It did seem like majority of the people there for the “Sanity” part got there early & were a part of the main audience located in the middle while the “Fear” people seemed to get there at 12 or later & roamed the streets or museum stairs instead. Really if you didn’t get there early you weren’t able to be near a TV let alone the stage.

This is where I was. :blushingcute: Sorta in the middle of the overall crowd starting at the stage. I could actually see better than this photo sorta shows. :rejected: But no where near the stage! Haahaa, so I was basically watching the rally on TV but with thousands of friends (lool) They didn’t show on TV the warm up acts. They had a few musical guests, the Roots played, then John Legend and then the MythBusters came out and made us all do the wave again & again then jump up and down as one and also yell out and such!

Not my photo but I better angle I found online. You can also read the 100 Best Signs of the Rally here. I was excited that I had seen most of these at the Rally! Though I missed a lot of the geekier ones >O
I really like the “I LIKE TEA and you’re kind of ruining” sign a lot, hahahaaa

All my photos look the same because I’m 5′1″ and it’s just a sea of people!

But it was the nicest rally I’ve ever encountered! No crazy yelling or chanting or in you face stuff. It WAS crowded but I didn’t really get pushed too much. And while watching the show the guy in front of me told him to let him know if he gets in my way & I can’t see :p. He was older, probably late 40s. I was surprised by the huge mix of age that showed up! It was awesome!

When leaving we walked to the L’Enfant Plaza metro stop but there was this huge non-moving line just to enter the station! So we walked a few blocks to the Waterfront stop and it was so empty we got seats! Of course the next stop people piled in but who cares, I was sitting \;D/ :star2:

Heard the escalator gave out at L’Enfant. Poor people they should have just turned them off in the first place IMO. :F

Anyone else go? I’d like to know how it was for you! :)
After talking to some people it really did seem that the earlier you went the more you ended up enjoying it. I think just the overwhelming number made travel incredibly stressful. :eep: And I’m not sure if I would have gone if I didn’t already live in the area. It’s hard to say~ But I do soooo… that probably has a lot to do with how enjoyable I found it  :kissyheart:

So yea, Cat Stevens & Ozzy Osbourne~ nuff said~

I told my Mom I saw Cat Stevens in concert and she immediately time-warped back to her old hippie days and starting raving about how she postponed her wedding to see him play, LOL. :blushingcute::lol: I figured she’d like that. Then I told her Ozzy was there too and her brain exploded (ok, not really, but she was confused.) :kissyfaceheart:

How was everyone’s Halloween by the way? I hope good! :faceaha: Even though in the past we’ve had countless rowdy kids come through, this year I only had 3, very well dressed & polite Trick-or-Treaters! I gave them fistfuls of candy and pretzels & more candy, haahaa. :orooro: I’m just glad the candy is ALL gone now. I was seriously overindulging & getting sick from all the fun size KitKats & 3 Musketeers bars! Though we do have pretzels left but those are yummy and don’t cause sugar shock. :good:

I also received a few more “autumn-themed” cards…

From Bianca! It’s Peanuts themed cocoa, OMG!! Too cute to eat but I’ll take it to work to enjoy it on these super cold days~~ :bigheart: And the card is really cute, a girl dressed as a squirrel.

From Veronica both a postcard from Japan and a dancin’ kitteh H’ween card! Oh how I love cat-themed t’ings!

I’m SO ready for tomorrow~ IT’S GONNA BE FRIDAY, YEAH!!

  2. Mai says:

OO~ Glad you had fun at the rally! I really wanted to go but I got sick the day before so I watched live on comedy central instead. A lot of my friends who went ended up leaving early cause they couldn’t hear/see anything so I’m glad I stayed home. Plus, I heard the metro going home was CRAZYYY~ (and I live on the orange line D:)

For some reason, my parents made me buy candy to pass out, but they didn’t pass any out so I still have a TON of Snickers that I’m engorging myself in everyday ;3;. I’m glad you had a great Halloween though :D

  3. Betty says:

I never thought it’d be possible to have well behaved ppl at a rally! I can’t believe you got to see Mythbusters. Love those guys! lol

And your halloween deco are sooo cute! made me regret not decorating my house but I know I’m too lazy to do such things. lol. Are you ready for Christmas? It’s coming soooon!

    • jenny says:

I was (and the crowd as a whole funnily enough) was ultra excited it was the MythBusters hahahahaa

I’m ready for Christmas, totally! Bring it on! I’m trying to get into the mood early because I’m only seeing family at Thanksgiving this year so I want to sorta feel like it’s Xmas too :O

  4. Genevieve says:

Usually on Saturdays I work 3-930pm so I didn’t even THINK to ask not to work earlier in the day. OF COURSE I got scheduled to work 12-7pm! D: I was so bummed; I really wanted to go! : /

I had 2 fun- sized 3 Musketeers last night & almost threw up. SO not used to eating candy anymore! XD

So I’ve realised I don’t have your “new” address; if you’d like an Xmas or New Year’s card, drop me an email :)

  5. Rachel says:

The rally looked so fun! I really wanted to go to DC since I heard about it on reddit but I knew I wouldn’t be able to. At least I watched it live on the computer! I enjoyed it and thought Jon Stewart’s final words couldn’t be more true.

  6. Fatiha says:

glad you had fun at the rally!! ^_^ it sounds like it was really interesting~ hehe Halloween was quiet where i am too… O_O only about 8 kids showed up…. and we ended up having 3/4 of the HUGE bag of candy left! kekeke~ i hope i don’t get fat… T_T i love pretzels~ their in my top 10 list of favorite snacks! ^^ anyway~ i’m excited for tomorrow too!!! i’ll finally be able to catch up on sleep!!!

    • jenny says:

I’m so lucky I can pawn off my leftover sweets on unsuspecting coworkers! Everyone brings in their leftovers & shares.

  7. M says:

yeah i read a bit about the rally but i didnt really know what it was about
weird how our final station is called waterfront too, perhaps because it’s on a water..front

:D glad to hear people were nice and polite

  8. Tori says:

I saw bits of the rally on TV & thought of you, haha! There was an amazing turnout~ I wouldn’t have expected to see so many older people, that’s really cool :)
& I would so drop out of giving treats on Halloween if not for the fact that I love that holiday, haha XD I’m so jaded after this year’s craptastic lack of kiddies!

    • jenny says:

Did you see me!? I was wearing a pink coat! LOL j/k no way anyone could spot ANYONE unless they were in that very front VIP section DX

  9. heather says:

I WANTED TO GO TO THE RALLY SO BAAAD !!! thanks for your recap c:
I’m glad to hear it was so pleasant. i haven’t had time to watch all the coverage of it, but i have seen photos of many lolzy signs. like ‘HITLER is HITLER’ & ‘the madhatter wants his crazy back’ w/ img of the mad hatter screaming clutching his teapot. o america.
also, im jealous of your overindulgence. PA trick or treats on random days, never on Halloween, so i never bother with buying candy.

  10. Thao says:

I’m glad you enjoyed the rally. Lol a nice polite rally of sane people. I really wish I live in the area instead of across the country. I watched it on C-SPAN, surprisingly they had it.

We didn’t get any trick or treaters this year…it’s not as popular this year for some reason. I thought it was only because I was getting older and am no longer going trick or treating, but kids just aren’t in the spirit as before.

    • jenny says:

Actuallllllllly I saw it on cspan too! We forgot to set up to record it on CC so we saw it was repeating on CSpan and caught it there!

I think maybe a reason less kids are going around trick-or-treating is all these big group events that seem to take place instead. My city had day after day of “events” this year that kids get dressed up & trick-or-treat at and I think they just get burned out or parents don’t know their neighbors anymore so they don’t trust letting their kids go door to door.

  11. I want to take part in a rally like that one day…I want to be part of something big one day! ^-^

  12. sukipooki says:

omg that’s a lot of people at the rally! I don’t think that there’s even an event in my city that will congregate so many willing people! crazy!!! Omg that hot chocolate packet is so cute! Have you tried the cocoa yet? hahaha it probably tastes good just cause it’s in peanuts packaging! I love how you decorated the fireplace! Those spider webs are awesome! Just wondering, do you throw them away or store them for next year? I was working this halloween boooo! Have a great weekend!

    • jenny says:

I haven’t tried it just yet but I’m sure it’s delicious!

The spider webs used indoors I keep & reuse but the ones we put outside we always trash (cuz they get dirty & also real spiders get up in them! Lazy spiders!)

  13. Linda says:

ooooh the rally sounds nice! JOHN LEGEND! AHHH, i love himmm! :D
& your Halloween decor is so pretty!!!!

  14. Anna says:

Cute decoration! We barely celebrate Halloween here in Norway, which is sad, but oh well. Very cute gifts :)

  15. Veronica says:

It’s so lucky you could just go home and relax afterwards! It was too far for us to make :/

Your mantle is awesome! I’m glad you liked the cards, I bought a dancin’ kitteh for myself, too! LOL

    • jenny says:

Yes it was! And actually we went back to his bro’s city and ate dinner then got on the road so traffic was damn good after we passed the major turnoff to NY & PA XDD

  16. Cindy says:

Awesome mantle decorations, snoopy ftw! The rally, whoa, so many people!! One of my coffee pals was trying to go while she was in town on vacation, so I’m anxious to talk to her to see how it went. ^_^

    • jenny says:

Oh cool! I hope she had a good time, it seems like semi-mixed reviews like 60% of ppl loved it but the rest not so much D:, I dunno, LOL

  17. rene says:

Remember you said I’m was tiny when you saw the photo of me in Tori’s romper? And you have the same from from F21. It’s only now that I know that you are 5′1″! I’m 5′5″! So I’m not tiny after all! Haha!

  18. Cza says:

Well, that rally seemed great — at least I find it better than the ones that go on around here. If you happen to live near a busy street (which I don’t, luckily, though sometimes I stay late at a place near one of the city’s most prominent highways) you’ll sometimes notice people screaming beyond their hearts’ content, burning streamers, and setting up camp in front of offices. This is how rallies are like here.

    • jenny says:

Oh god, yeah, I know what you’re talking about and this was thankfully nothing like that at all. Just peace-loving, can’t we all just get along types :)

  19. Ys says:

Wow that rally sounded like fun :) I love it when a big event doesn’t feel like a big event, if you see what I mean. It’s nice when people are friendly and just having a good time :)

I love your Halloween pictures. You always catch the light so well :)

    • jenny says:

No, I know what you mean! It didn’t really FEEL like 200K people were there, I mean thinking that makes me feel panicked but the crowd was pretty well behaved so it wasn’t too intense :D

  20. Jane says:

There are SO many people there!! I think the entire population of my town would be less than 1/4 of that in your pictures. Hahaha…

Great Halloween decoration, too! Maybe next year I’ll get around to sprucing up my place.

  21. Courtney says:

    HAPPY FRIDAY!!

Aw, I am so excited my card became part of your Halloween decorations! :D

Oh! The rally! I am kinda glad I didn’t drive up, tbh! It was fun to watch on TV, but altogether so random and…well…I didn’t feel like there was much of a theme or specific message they wanted to advertise. =/ But I’m glad you had fun!!

    • jenny says:

It fit right in! I love tiny cards for that reason XDD

I think for the rally I sorta kept in my head that this, in general, was mostly a “Comedy Central Concert” and sure enough it was (until the end when there really was a clear message from Jon.) I think as comedians there’s a line they have to walk. If they take themselves too seriously, seriously thinking tomorrow they would wake up & the world would be different, it’s just setting themselves up for failure. But if they put something on that just sorta entertains those who came, gave people something to fill their weekend plans and if people walked away with a message then even better.

I would have LOVED for this “Rally” to have changed the mood of the country, but that’s just never going to happen. It did however piss A LOT of media off! Even our local news station, when covering it, was VERY sarcastic & seemed even openly bitter that the Rally was targeted AT THEM and though they still run the fear mongering “WHAT’S KILLING YOUR KIDS NOW” segments, I have noticed they’ve toned it down to maybe only being 70% of their segments! I’m seeing saner ones like “How to keep your fruit fresh, longer!” Hahahahahaa

      • Courtney says:

That’s true. They have to walk the line between serious and entertaining and they’ve got it down to a formula for their shows, but a rally is a totally different form of entertainment. Since they’re comedians, I guess no one wants to go just to be yelled at! :P So I agree it was cool there was a lot of music and other celebrities, but still I felt like there was no real…point until the very end. ‘ x ‘

Same! But you know, it was great to see SO many similar-minded people! (My state is very red, obviously…), so I mean, it was great to not feel like the loner while watching! haha PLUS that it actually had an effect on the news is AWESOME! It’s good to know something like 250,000 Americans find their programming ridiculous! And personally I find those “What’s killing your kids” bits insulting! Do the people who lap all that up have no intellect?

  22. Exotic Japan says:

Love the Halloween pictures and thanks for the info on the rally. I had wondered how that had gone. :-)

  23. Zoraida says:

WOW. That rally is huge. The only rally I’ve ever been to was one for Prop 8 … or … rather it had something to do about homosexuality! I DON’T REMEMBER ANYMORE. /fails/

My Halloween was nice! I ate Indian food and watched a bunch of scary movies by myself lol… those fun-sized candy bars are cruel. You think you’re eating a little bit but when it comes down to it you’ve practically eaten 5 king sized candy bars.

Ohhh yay! Now that we have each other’s addresses we can send each other cool cards and such! I’m pretty excited heeeeeeeee~

    • jenny says:

Yes, fun size is no fun 20 bars in!!

Oh yes, expect postcards from really lame-ass places like Mississippi & Virginia, hahahahahah XD

  24. Amelia says:

Wow, I’m kind of envious you attended the rally to restore sanity (and fear? cause Colbert was there to). Even though I’m not American I follow both shows via internet and I’m a big fan. Also Halloween Snoopy is the cutest thing ever.

    • jenny says:

I think it’s really cool you watch the shows outside of the US! I’m always impressed (and extremely happy) when I hear that! Because most US news outlets are extremely conservative & crazy & skewed :O

  25. Sam says:

Ohhh~ *-* I sooo wanted to go (to keep fear alive. >8D), but I couldn’t afford it, since I’m out of state, and have no money. :D And, then I slept through the live tv coverage, so, it’s exciting for me to know more about what went down. Sounds like it was AWESOME!

  26. Alyse says:

Hey I was at the rally!! I think I was in the same area as you too! LOL I was back in D.C. to visit friends and family, and luckily it coincided with the rally. It was sooo much fun! Best rally I’ve ever been too!
Did you have a guy in purple climbing in the tree near you? Because then you were definitely in the same area as me Lol

I love your Halloween decorations! I didn’t get to do much for Halloween, but I did hand out candy at my grandma’s house on Sunday. I love the cute little kids! ^w^)//♥

  27. jayjayne says:

    Woooaaah, the wally looks insane!
So many people too! Good for you for getting in there!

    Also – HALLOWEEN JEALOUSY PERSISTS~!

    ;P

  28. Lorik says:

WOW~ I love the photos!! I wish I could have gone bluuuu bluuuu~

    I LOVE CAT STEVENS. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

  29. Bianca says:

hee hee glad you liked it :D!

    Plus that rally was really a beautiful thing, its soo great to kno that we havent lost our minds as much as I thought we did ;_;
