Sweet Rinka

Saturday March 05, 2011

Ah I love this cover.
I loooooooooove this cover.
This is a particular Rinka spread that I see and in my head it just becomes ICONIC. ICONIC RINKA. ASPIRATIONS RINKA!!! I see it and I’m just *0* this is what I want…, muse~~~ :deco11:

I love the style of this entire shoot. :deco2: The fashion, retro but adult. The makeup, clean, nude, but alluring. The lenses, subtle but visible. And even the wig, I’m digging the wig idgaf! :deco10:

Popteen recently (I think January issue) did a “celebrity makeover” section and Kumicky chose Rinka and I think it came out pretty. She looks so lovely in “Rinka-style” makeup and hair~~ :deco6:

Okarie listed Rinka as one of her fashion inspirations but I guess because Kumicky had Rinka she went with her second choice of Suzanne. Though, besides the way she smiled, I don’t understand why they did Okarie’s hair the exact same way they always did Okarie’s hair?! LOL Suzanne does curls but she’s never done it in full “Okarie-style.” LOOOL. Ah but it’s not really important because she still looked cute and actually they look a tiny bit alike! :P Especially with Okarie smiling in Suzanne style

Also these snaps from Chinatsu blog a week ago reminded me of what could be considered as Rinka’ish makeup…

I realize I’m just rambling now.

Rinka recently wore this dress from H&M. I haven’t seen it in stores but looks cute for spring. Currently hunting 4 local H&Ms for it, haahaa~~~ :deco11:

OK, END!! :ok:

    I LOVE IT (TOO)!!!!!

I’m currently into nude toned fashion!! :D

  2. Sidney says:

ah i read “iconic” as “ironic” at first and was like….what’s so ironic about these??? CONFUSED!!

but i totally agree. rinka looks amazing (ok she always does, wtf, even when she’s bumming around in no makeup) but i love the makeuppppp. i wish i could figure out how to wear stuff so natural, but when i do it just looks like i’m not acutally wearing makeup. WHICH ISN’T THE SAME THING. because i look bad lol

    • jenny says:

      Hahaha ironic!!

Yes, yes I’m still trying to learn it better too!!!!!!!! There’s totally a fine line. I find I end up going too far and putting on too much makeup in the end. I’m like “ok, just a little more, and a little more, and… CRAP TOO MUCH IT’S NIGHT MAKEUP NOW!” lol

Rinka’s blog makes me feel all confident like, oh I should not care about looking perfect all the time in my photos too, but then I remember she’s Rinka and I’m fugs me so no one wanna see my no make face LOOOOOOOL

  3. loma says:

Omg! Nude make up looks so natural and girly. At the same time u have a princess face, it looks like u just woke up naturally beautiful. But nobody knows u spent like 5 hours getting ready with lots of make up. HAHAHA love it! and rinka is so cuuute! *~~*

  4. Carol says:

I really love Rinka, where I follow her blog I always find wonderful clothes and pictures, which serve as inspiration for me.

  5. レイカ says:

I like the nude make & pink lips, it`s very romantic for spring ♥♥ btw, I always though that you resembled Suzanne ..especially before you got the long bob haha..idk =3

  6. Charlene says:

I don’t really know much about Rinka (aside from the fact she’s a model?) but I DO love the shoot in this mag! Really admire the girls who can pull off so little make up and look natural in that ‘alluring’ way as you mentioned.

  7. カル says:

this spread is so pretty~! love how they made her eyes look, kind of like she has a different shape of eyes :)

  8. Jane says:

Her make up is so lovely, so natural and pretty looking! :)
    Love this spread. :D

  9. monicalee says:

I knowwwww… I saw those photos of Rinka and was like, are you kidding me this is tooooooo cute!!!!!! Heheh… She is just growing younger and younger how is this even possible!!! AAAhhh so in love with Rinka!

  10. Leslie says:

I have to admit I wasn’t a super huge Rinka fan but seeing these pictures really changed my mind! I love the makeup a lot (it’s probably even more minimalist looking in photos than my every day makeup… sigh) and I really like Kumicky’s take on it as well! And that H&M dress AHH so fantastic, I want it too!

    • jenny says:

      Yea I’ve been switching some days up with more natural, brighter colors to try and get this look but I’m so used to be heavy-handed =_=;

  11. Monica says:

It was because of you that I discovered Rinka and I’m totally in love with everything about her: natural good looks, style, demeanor – she can totally work it!

I love how down to earth she is and how she isn’t afraid to work what she’s got and bare a little skin once in awhile but turn around and do something completely romantic like this Sweet cover. Love, love, love!

    • jenny says:

AWE yaaaaaaaaaaay \:D/ Yeah her blog came out long before the model blog craze and I think that’s why she’s so ‘honest’ in it. Showing all kinds of not-necessarily-attractive photos and being honest about it xD She even honestly spoke about her momentary break up with then bf (now husband) which really is surprising.

  12. Erin says:

Have you ever seen that episode of 007 (or whatever that show is called) where they show pictures of Rinka when she was just getting into modelling? She was so embarrassed, haha. It was really interesting to see how she’s evolved into this amazing style icon, though. A lot of people probably never would have guessed it back when she was starting out!

    • jenny says:

007?? I don’t think so xD! Yeah it’s surprising really, she was sorta ‘retired’ for so long then suddenly people started following her blog and her popular just sky rocketed like WHOA :D She’s an icon now at an older age which is really a blessing for any model I think.

      • Erin says:

Ah, I totally didn’t know that! I haven’t really followed Rinka’s career too much, I guess. Was there any one thing that got people interested in her again?

Oh, also, I realized I had that video on my computer (the show is actually called しゃべくり007) so I uploaded it for you, if you’re interested? I would link you to my actual YT but I’m so paranoid about uploading copyrighted material… not that this is much better:

        • jenny says:

          Ahhhhh Ty Ty Ty xDddd!

As far as I know the real big push for her back into the spotlight was her blog and her Shiseido contract. She was popular as a JJ model but had retired already.

  13. Tasja says:

I agreeee~ that cover and photoshoot is GORGEOUS!
She is way to cute ^^!

  14. zoraida says:

i try to do no make makeup sometimes but my eyes are huge so i think i just look terrible because my eyes are SO FREAKING HUGE fjweoijrwejrjflskfoweiru

    -_____-

i’ll do no make makeup when you do no make makeup haha

    • jenny says:

Haahaa, do you mean irl because I do it more than ppl might think :X. I didn’t wear any all weekend actually due to laziness + insane rain. Need to replace my sunnies though, something to hide behind while being makeup free!

  15. Nami says:

Oh it’s so lovely you blog so much nowadays hahaha. I can barely catch up with commenting.
Let’s see, I don’t think I said something about the eye-drops and such but I wanted to say it’s so cool they have that. I usually do the same thing except not with something made for eyes but with camomile tea. And I don’t have the squirt-thing XD. I think it’s pretty cool that there is such a product in Japan, I figure it must be nice for tired eyes.

Loving the retro-ish style as well. I don’t really keep up with models or popular gyaru girls (that’s what she is right? LOL see I don’t keep up with them). I like that her make up is so subtle. The only thing I don’t like is her short bangs. But that’s because I don’t like short bangs in general, I’ve seen very few people look good in them XD I feel like it looks better if the bangs cover the eye brows or at least get very close to them. But it’s a personal taste thing ^^
I think it’s the cutest thing that they did those “celeb” make-overs. It’s always great to see people doing a completely different style than they usually do :) .

    • Nami says:

Ah, also my package with the eyeliner by Wink Up arrived to me and I played around with it. I like the look I can create with it but it doesn’t seem waterproof to me at all. When I first did swatches on my hand I couldn’t get it off with water. But on my eyes all it took was a wet finger and voila smudge across my cheek fml xD. I wonder if I’m doing something wrong. Also it doesn’t come out as opaque. So I am a little disappointed especially at it’s “waterproof”-ness. Have you had any problems with it?
But it IS the easiest eye liner I’ve EVER used and I can easily create a winged effect which I LOVE.

  16. Sofia says:

wow this is a coincidence! the striped dress in the last photo. my mom has it ^^ haha…

  17. Rubi says:

Loveeee! so fresh and pretty for spring!!

  18. Jeannine says:

That girl is so pretty ;o; I love her bangs~ I miss my bangs now :c
Anyway, that dress is pretty! brb hunting for that dress too *o*

  19. Linda says:

yay nude tones! i love them because they go with any color shoes/accessories! :D

  20. Tori says:

I FEEL YOU 1,000% ♥ Thank you for sharing this amazing shoot!
Is it weird that I think Kumicky looks a lot prettier in Rinka style makeup & hair than her own? XD
I’m glad nude makeup is booming for spring~ I’m starting to appreciate it more & more lately too ♥

    • jenny says:

Yeah I dunno, maybe because Kumicky… and just the Popteen girls in general really find 1 key style and stick to it that it’s a bit refreshing to see it changed up! They don’t really do that a lot, but other magazines the models are changing styles from spread to spread.

I’m a bit surprised I’m liking nude makeup lately too!! Nude tights. Nude nail polish… I think I was getting bored with monotone then colors, I dunno, I dunno LOL

  21. Amy says:

I love her lipstick color. I’ve been really wanting to buy a new pink nude lipstick that doesn’t wash my face out! Any suggestions?

    And that tiered dress, I think I fell in L♥VE. (。ಠ 3 ಠ。)♪ ♪

    • jenny says:

Hum, well it depends on your skintone of course which I don’t know xD But do you have a MAC store near you because they have a lot of good options. I use mac’s Myth then I apply mac’s St. Germain on top and cover in a clear gloss to get a pale milky nude pink.

  22. Marin says:

    Jenny!
I am obsessed about Rinka because of you! I didn’t even know her before I start reading your blog!
So I would like to thank you for posting so much about her here. I love that issue of Sweet (and love her lipstick too *-*) and the cover photo!

    Kisses! ♥

  23. valerie says:

    what perfect bangs!

  24. Sachie says:

Wow, Rinka’s super gorgeous! She doesn’t look fully Japanese though. She she mixed? :3 Super cute!

And ahh that dress! Wantwantwant! :D

  25. mawa says:

rinka is beautiful as always! i honestly love her classic beauty~ minimalistic but elegant. :) ohhh and if you happen to find that h&m shirt dress, please post a pic! i wonder if they have it on the h&m website :O don’t you just love it when jp idols wear clothing brands that are easily attainable? heeheehee

  26. Bianca says:

i feel like i need an icon, or a muse…i feel so uninspired recently. i dont know whats going wrong with me :( regardless rinka is forever beautiful and FINALLY a full shoot (sorta) versus her constant slew of teaser shoots (lol!) and kumicky looks really fab, im glad a toned down natural look is getting bak in vogue than AAAHHHH MAAAAKEUUUPPPPPAAAAAHHHH lol, which by some girls it looks wonderful and on my bone structure and my height, i look like a drag and not a queen…:'( so sad

    • jenny says:

I have a few other icons & muses. Rinka is one I share often and is one of my biggest, but others I hide away and covet and never share with the outside world xDDDDDD

  27. Ys says:

The shoot is so pretty. Very sexy and sophisticated. Sometimes I find the fashion too childish for my taste but that shoot of Rinka is gorgeous :)

  28. isa says:

    wow i didn’t knew Rinka

    • jenny says:

Now you do :D She’s extremely influential on Japanese fashion. She starts many trends like Cher logo bags and moko moko sweatshirts.

  29. Lorena says:

her style is so cute & classy! loved the make-up & clothes ^3^

  30. lala says:

her contact lens are so pretty!!! (the cover model)
do u happen to know what lens she’s wearing?

  31. mao says:

wow~ i love this photoshoot of Rinka~ i love the nude makeup especially, her contacts too so pretty~ *_*

  32. stella says:

omg!!! i love rinka style so much. I havent got a chance to look up any magazine… she is so lovely!!

  33. Courtney says:

I love this make! Super natural with just some soft blush for sweetness :) I’d love to do this as well, but probably not pale enough! haha
I like Rika’s shots, too…very girly but with some sexy style, too. Kumicky looks really nice like this too! ;D

  34. Courtney says:

My comment is not showing up… >

  35. Tilleul says:

Yea! Pretty stuff! Thanks for the lip color recommendation.
