Thanks to Yesstyle I have a Shu Uemura eyelash curler!!! And I’m quite excited about this highly rated curler!! :celebrate:

I LOVE IT!
It’s exactly what I was looking for~~! :deco10:

I wasn’t happy with the Sephora brand one I bought a few months ago. I had been using the same drugstore brand of curler since I was in high school. Maybelline I think. A few months ago, instead of replacing it with the same like I always did, I bought a super cute pink Sephora one instead. I figured it would at least be as good if not better. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case. :;_;: It was worse than my drugstore brand ones! It didn’t give a full curl on my lashes plus rubbed against my eyelid even though I was holding it a million miles away. :x It constantly rubbed my eyeliner off. :ng: My natural lashes are long and a bit thick, so it’s not like I could curl first then apply liquid liner. Plus my old one never had this problem. But enough about the reasons WHY I wanted a good brand!!

WHY I LIKE IT :deco9:
It fits my eye-shape perfectly! No rubbing off eyeliner and no pinching! :deco8: Best of all the curl!!!!! Full curl up towards the sky again! :make: Weeeeee! :P And it lasts for hours! :deco15: Even no mascara it lasts! I actually compared side by side the Sephora curler used on one eye and Shu Uemura did the other. It looked ridiculous because the difference was so obvious. Looking at the curlers close up the differences are nearly indistinguishable but the functionality of those slight differences are quite apparent. The Sephora one isn’t as curved or as long along the lash line. The biggest difference was how far back set the pads were. The Sephora pad was much further out than the Shu Uemura one. This was probably what caused me the most issue with the Sephora one. :deco13:

I will say that, I probably couldn’t have appreciated the Shu Uemura one when I was younger. Because if you aren’t trying to get the full potential volume and curl out of your lashes then the minor differences probably wouldn’t mean much. I know I used to have way lower standards for what I expected my lashes to do. :?:  But now I want the most volume, curl, and length humanly possible when not wearing false lashes and without the help of lash extensions!! I want my lashes visible from across the room! Alas, I live with the doomed delusion of wanting a fake eyelash look without the fake eyelashes! lolol lolol I’m not alone in this and I know it because mascaras like FALSIES and Beauty Tubes and Fiberwig all exist because there are other delusional people out there like me obsessed with going bigger and more dramatic xD Lash serums too~~!!! Impossible goal :deco14: :P

Until then false eyelashes are there to save the day! Currently my favorite is Dolly Wink’s No.4 Feminine Style. Yesstyle has some now too along with a few of the eyeshadows in the more popular multi-colors (and not the brown or gray palette yet.)

Dolly Wink No.4 Feminine Style
Dolly Wink No.3 Natural Girly
Dolly Wink No.1 Dolly Sweet

Dolly Wink Eyeshadow 03 Country Retro Blue/Orange
Dolly Wink Eyeshadow 04 Colorful Pop Green/Pink
Dolly Wink Cream Shadow 02 Crystal

Dolly Wink Pencil Liner Black and Brown!

ooh i’ll have to check out that curler, i’m in need of a nice one!

and what what! yesstyle has dolly wink now?! :D

  2. Tori says:

I used a drugstore brand eyelash curler way back when & absolutely hated the results ;o; This review of the Shu Uemura one gives me hope that there ARE curlers that actually make a difference! Thank you for sharing bb~

    • jenny says:

Seriously you sorta think they’re all created equal except for maybe lasting quality but after having had a truly awful one I realize finally that this SO is not the case!! I hope you find one you ADORE someday xD

  3. Maikue says:

I’ve been looking for some false eyelashes in the same style as dolly wink’s natural girly and dolly sweet.. ITS SO FREAGGIN HARD!! Thank goodness for yesstyle!!!

Btw, I’ve never really considered eyelash curlers as effective or non-effective, I’ve always felt they all do the same, tug at my lashes, pinch my lids, or take off the mascara. I think because of that, I’ve neglected using eye lash curlers for the most part whenever I put on make up. This was a really insightful entry. ;) Thanx!!!

I can totally relate to that *nod *nod I think up til I bought the crappy Sephora one did I just sorta “not think” about what makes a curler good or bad and just sorta figured they were all the same and blamed any unhappiness of curl on my LASHES and not the curler. xD

  4. chocoNIKKI says:

Haha, I’ve been using Shu for a little over 3 years now! (Since the end/last year of High school~) Before that I used my moms ancient one (drug store brand) with crappy old unreplaced pad – riped off so many lashes and didn’t curl my lashes… It just bent them! I think wimpy asian eyelashes like mine definitely need all the help they can get~~

Ooh, and the Dolly wink cream eyeshadow in gold is apparently good under brown/natural eyeshadow~ I want it~~

    • jenny says:

LOL my old drugstore one ripped out lashes too, I thought it was normal until I “upgraded” THANK GOD lol

Yea they had “gold” in stock too but I didn’t post this soon enough LOL

  5. Asuka says:

They started selling the Dolly Wink cream shadows at the Marukai by my place… it looks so pretty and at ~$15 it isn’t TOO expensive :) I want the gold one… hehehe.

  6. Kim-Mari says:

Wow those Dollywink Retro eye colors = SO MUCH LOVE! :D

I was given a Shu eyelash curler as a gift a while back (so not the improved model~) and I found it fantastic… but to be quite honest I prefer my good old nutrimetics one though lol.

  7. Bianca says:

do want, idk if i’ll like an eyelash curler though, sometime i feel like if it curls too much i just have this rounded curl that you cant see..:/

  8. sukipooki says:

I’ve been wanting to get my hands on a Shu curler for the longest time now! The only reason I haven’t is because I stole my moms Shiseido curler LOL It works find but it does pinch every now and then, Im even more eager to get this ever since they mention discontinuing sales in north america! Those ebay sellers are going to make a killing afterwards lol

  9. Honeydew says:

I have the shu uemura eyelash curler but I don’t find it that effective for me. I think it has more to do my natural lashes itself and not the curler though. I have really long and thin lashes that don’t seem to stay curled up for a long time. I’ve tried tons of different mascaras and eyelash curlers and nothing seems to work. Although I heard the trick of blow drying your mascara with a hair dryer helps to make your lash curls last longer but I have been afraid to try, lol.

I’m with you about wanting to have the most volume, curl, length humanly as possible without the use of using false eyelashes. I just want them to look natural but yet full and dramatic that you can see from across the room! I’ve heard great reviews about the Shiseido Majolica Majorca mascaras that can help create that look and I’ve been tempted to try it.

  10. Lili says:

I’ve heard many wonderful things about the Shu curler too, but I have yet to switch because of the price…. T T I’m currently using a Koji no. 71 curler, which actually works pretty well for me. When it was new, it was able to hold my curls really well, even without mascara. Recently, the effect hasn’t been as strong, but it’s no problem with mascara. :) If this one ever dies on me, I’m definitely going to invest in the Shu curler!

  11. miya says:

its a classic for a reason. I’ve been using it since I was 16.

  12. Courtney says:

Nice find!! Amazing that some engineers put that much thought into the tiny details and it made such a difference!

  13. Jenn says:

I love my Shu Uemura curler. I honestly think that when it comes to anything eye related in the make up department, one cannot go wrong with Shu Uemura.

Now I only wish that they’d start selling replacement pads for their curler.

  14. Amy says:

The Shu Uemura curler use to be my favorite, until I bought a Panasonic electric eyelash curler in Japan. Together with my Dejavu Fiberwig mascara, it makes my lashes look magical. (●´ω`●) But you already have nice thick lashes, lucckkkyyy.

  15. My Linh says:

Very nice tip! I will check out the Shu Eyelash Curler, too. :D
Oh, I just ordered something from YesStyle but I think I order again. Aw… I like false eyelashes but I suck at applying them… :(

  16. hiika says:

ahhh I love my shu eyelash curler too!! ^_^ I bought mine in HK this summer before I realized the just-opened sephora back home carries it too orz =.= Such fail. And the worst part was me realizing a week after coming back from HK that I’d THROWN OUT the freaking replacement pad when I recycled the box back in my HK hotel room to get through customs/save packing space!!!! -throws things at the wall angrily- seriously how fail is that???!!! Like others have commented, I’d looove for shu uemura to sell replacement pads despite the whole “throw out your curler after X months as it doesn’t work properly anymore” yaddayaddayadda. I’ve heard that Body Shop’s replacement pads work great and for much cheaper so I’ll probably look into that later. Have you ever tried the Japanese electric eyelash curlers that are always raved about in magazines like the panasonic one? I want to try it but I don’t know where to find it locally in Canada buuu.

    • jenny says:

      ORLY I might try that out when my replacement pad gives out. Sorry to hear about yous t___t;;;

I was actually gonna buy a heated eyelash curler at Sephora some time ago but a friend talked me out of it LOL

  17. Leslie says:

the shu uemura curler has been my HG eyelash curler for years (i think ever since i was 16 or so!) it’s seriously such a great curler and i think only the shiseido one rivals it! i’ve also had not great experiences with drug store eyelash curlers that basically do nothing for my eyelashes, shu uemura all the way! actually i’m kind of surprised that you didn’t already have one since you seem like a very devoted fan of the brand haha :)

  18. alualunalu says:

haha you make me laugh. but congratulations of joining happy eyelash curling people everywhere with this eye lash curler. i LOVEEEE this product & thought it was worth every penny. :) no tugs or pulls with the perfect curl :D glad you love it & enjoy!

  19. Ys says:

I’ve never used an eye-lash curler. My sister always does so I have had a go of one but it didn’t really make much difference. You’re going to hate me for saying it but… my eyelashes are quite long and curly naturally. I only need to slap some mascara on to make them more noticable ;)

  20. Pam says:

I notice you’re really into Japanese fashion/culture (and who shounldn’t be!?!) ^_^ Have you downloaded TokyoFashion.com for your iPhone yet? It’s fantastic.

  21. Vy says:

This is the best curler ever, and I’m one t testify it 100%! My lashes are so hard to curl… And with this one, oh, what an amazing difference! I love my shu curler, its worth it’s price!

  22. Veronica says:

At the SU old Boston location, they had a sign saying “YES This is our famous lash curler!” haha definitely a concensus that it’s the bestest

  23. I really need a new eyelash curler… Maybe this is the one for me too! ^_^

  24. Moa says:

I bought both eyeliners when I were in Tokyo last year and I L-O-V-E them! There very easy to use and stay on for the whole day! :) Will buy them again them I’m back in Tokyo in the end of next month! But my dad’s gotten really worried now then there’s been earthquakes and tsunamis, so he doesn’t want me, my mum and my grandmother(on mum’s side) to go to Japan…
