Sweet on Sweet Magazine

Tuesday May 31, 2011

I put in for a subscription for Sweet a week or so ago. So I’ll be getting that in the mail monthly now. :suki: I was just buying it from the Japanese Market whenever I saw they had it in. Up until now I didn’t like Sweet too much. :;_;: But recently it’s changed. I’ve changed. :P The last issue I had until 2011 was from 2008.

But I found I’ve been buying it each month I saw it in the store. However it’s not guaranteed in so I decided to go ahead and subscribe. I use Fujisan.com for my subscriptions. Actually, so does the market I usually buy magazines from. They use the same distributor. :ok: And so the price is the same and I’m guaranteed the issue. :deco15: I’ll continue to buy other magazines like ViVi or SCawaii in person at my leisure~~

I only subscribe to magazines I 100% LOVE. :deco4:
any others I buy in person at the Japanese market.

So now I have a subscription to PopSister, Used Mix, and now Sweet. :)

Though Used Mix is quarterly, only 4 issues a year :P

Sweet gets some of the best freebies too like Marc Jacobs totes, Cher bags, and this Jupiter gold-colored charm bracelet I’ve been wearing every day! :deco10:

It’s comes with a Rinka designed pouch as well with a big “R” on the zipper charm.

OK, I’m exhausted from walking around outside in crazy heat all weekend + yesterday. Going to go watch House repeats on DVD and drink loads more water! :deco16:

And this mag is such a great value, it’s huuuuge!

  2. M says:

    nice!
    those are nice freebies
lol sometimes i try not to judge my purchases on the freebie that i get
    but it’s too hard lol

  3. cin says:

Yay! I didn’t used to like Sweet either but I’ve been liking their recent styles~
You’ve got all the best magazine on subscription! :D

(I fixed up my blog link now XD Just realised it links to the Ameblo blog)

    • cin says:

Btw is the bracelet good quality? Might get that issue from Amazon :D

      • jenny says:

It’s free so it’s not the highest of course. The chain is nice and so is the color. The charm is cute but up close the stone looks cheap but it’s not noticeable. I wouldn’t BUY the magazine for the freebie but it’s a nice bonus and hasn’t broken or anything plus is super shiny gold without looking fake.

    • jenny says:

Ah yeah I kept going to your ameblo when I’d click from my comments but it’s ok I have the correct one in my RSS reader already xD

  4. Souno says:

I was debating if I should get a Sweet subscription. But $13 + $7 shipping; I should like it a lot to subscribe to it.

    • jenny says:

Exactly. That’s why I only subscribe to magazines if I really really love it. I LIKE ViVi but if I miss buying a month I wouldn’t care so it’s not worth a subscription to me.

  5. jayjayne says:

Yay, I’ve been loving Sweet lately too – considering getting a subscription – but postage to Australia is almost extreme!

  6. Jenn says:

I love Sweet magazine! Recently I’ve found that their style is a lot like mine too: casual, cute, girly. I find so many inspirations for outfits from the mag!

    • jenny says:

Me too me too!!! It’s varied but with a consistent base. It definitely covers all the “looks” I need from work to casual weekend ;)

  7. Melissy ♥ says:

That looks awesome! :) I’ll have to start looking out for Sweet! :P It’s hard to get japanese magazines here in Australia but I’ll be sure to get a few mags when I go back to Asia! XD

    • jenny says:

Ah yeah same here. Luckily they’re easier to buy online in recent years here in the US. Years ago when I was trying to buy CUTiE it was SO IMPOSSIBLE even online x(

  8. Lorik says:

I used to purchase magazines from a super market in Little Tokyo called Mitsuwa. There is a new super market there now and they don’t carry magazines ;____; Luckily, there is a Kinokuniya book store nearby!!

  9. momo says:

poor me,Kinokuniya at my place don’t have Egg but released quite late. I’m not sure was these Sweet or not but will see how it is :)) ever you read nonno -http://www.s-woman.net/non-no/ ?

    • jenny says:

Oh yes! I had a Non-no subscription from ‘04 ~ ‘09!! But I got a bit bored of it and slowly changed to Ageha then Popteen at the time.

Sweet is like a casual girly magazine for 20~30 yr olds featuring both Japanese brands like Dazzlin and US brands like Marc by Marc Jacobs. It’s not much like Egg but I understand if you like both magazines ;D

      • Mommo says:

I read non-no a few times, mostly are SCawaii, POPTEEN, Ranzuki, Ageha, Egg and JELLY or maybe EDGE at the time :) Gyaru has many different styles, thats a good one to follows :)

  10. lissy says:

i get mine from lil asian magazine stores in the most asian areas in melbourne :D but then again their prices are like 3x the japanese price T^T

  11. Noora says:

Ooh, I have been wondering if I could subscribe some japanese magazines (it is not easy to find them here in Finland… ;()! I took a look at fujisan.com and they have so many nices ones, eeek! The price that is next to each magazine must be the prize for a single magazine…? :)

  12. Alisa says:

Oh how cool is that. You subscribed to three magazines T_T I’m jealous again, Jen! Haha!

It’s time for me to search for a part time job, I guess…then I can buy more things like clothes, make up and magazines :’( w

    • jenny says:

Ugh yeah. When I was in college any tiny bit of spending money I had left over from my job went to buying, like, 1 magazine a month *cries* TOUGH TIMES SUCK

  13. susy says:

yay for magazine subscriptions!!! i should subscribe to some haha.. i\’m too lazy to go to newsagents and get them.. except for one magazine called frankie :P

yay for freebies also! i\’ve been trying to find magazines that provide free cher bags but can\’t find any >__

  14. susy says:

    WOOPPS comment cut off haha

i keep checking back at particular places that sell the magazines that i want but no luck…

sorry my reply is so late!! but my practical is going really well thanks :D the kids in my class are so cute haha.. i’ve actually only been there for a few days but i like them alot! i only have 3 days to go though.. im going again tomorrow and then 1 day a week for the next two weeks then i won’t see the kids until september probably!

Some of the kids are so smart, its surprising how knowledgable and how mature some of them speak even though they’re only ten years old. some of them even have boyfriends and girlfriends HAHAHA which i find verrrryyyyy strange because they’re still so young! I found it pretty nervewracking teaching my lessons though. i get so worried that the kids won’t listen to me haha

  15. Thanh Thao says:

Sweet is such a sweet magazine!! XD I’d lve to have a subscription as well, but a) no money for that and b) I don’t have any storage space, lol. Whenever I buy mags I think it’s such a watse to throw them away, I wanna keep them like forever, haha.

    • jenny says:

Oh god, I’ve moved more & more magazines each time I, well, moved!! At this point I have 3 bookcases full. I don’t think I can move them all again in the future LOL. They really do take up space and Sweet is typically HUGE.

  16. Tori says:

Sweet really does have the best furoku ♥ That charm bracelet is so pretty!
Try to stay cool! I heard it was like 100° in DC yesterday! D:

    • jenny says:

Seriously, I just stayed home yesterday. Avoided heat that way. I think I was already sick from it actually from the weekend being out all day & walking nonstop :(

  17. Courtney says:

Very nice :) I haven’t bought any magazines in ages…I feel so out of the loop now I wouldn’t even know which kind I’d like. I sort of stopped buying when I didn’t have a favorite to go to. I’d love a mori girl mag but I’ve only flipped through SPOON a few times and really didn’t love it. ↓↓↓

  18. Bianca says:

i have a love hate for japanese mags, i think thats why i could never commit to having my own subscription! Its those mid months that i get suckered into buying and then its like “meh Ive seen this is the previous month” etc…Vivi does that alot….

but sweet i was drawn to in the past, so its changed you say? might have to give it a look see, i need a mag that incorporates my weird alternative-ness and my fashion sense, Jille has been faithful but they play up that “oversized” look too much (looks terrible on me) and zipper is a little…..young…

have you tried Magazine Cafe or Amazon for your subscriptions? is it reliable?

    • jenny says:

That’s completely how I feel about ViVi & SCawaii & a few others. Those magazines I’ll choose to skip buying if it doesn’t interest me after I flip through. I tend to buy ViVi four times a yr at each main season change. I keep my subscriptions though until I find myself no longer reading through it when it comes in.

Ah yeah, Jille. Like Soup, everything’s ゆる ゆる ゆる and I don’t want to really wear that every day b/c usually I feel fugs in oversized clothing. You might like Lips. It’s new~ http://lipsmagazine.jp/ It’s for 20~30 yr olds and still some street casual in it.

DO NOT GO WITH AMAZON, IT’S BUTT RAPE. Back in the day it’s the only place to get magazines & they double charged me for CUTiE and shipping had like 2-month lag time.

  19. Genevieve says:

Good idea! I’ve been debating on a subscription of Sweet for several months now. I found an Ebay dealer who would give me like $20 off the Fujisan price.

BTW, you need to do Twitter alerts when the Market has magazines in! ;P

    • jenny says:

I try to but I forget plus everyone likes different magazines so when I go in & like “Nylon” or “Glitter” is in I don’t really pay attention.

  20. fi fi says:

I’ve never heard of Sweet before ( or any other Japanese mag out there xD ). But it looks like it has some pretty cute articles in it !! o x o
In general, what does Sweet cover? Besides clothing / fashion. Do they also cover beauty tips, etc.? Just curious n x n

    • jenny says:

Yup basically all that. Fashion, style trends, beauty trends, hair tutorials, hair trends, runway trends, plus extras like cafe, food trends, models’ diaries, travel, etc. It’s low on articles and big on photos.

  21. Rubi says:

I have been SO obsessed with magazines lately! I have stopped buying Japanese magazines though, but I have been getting so many American magazines! I’m really digging Instyle lately ;P

  22. Jenny says:

Does Sweet include a freebie in every magazine?

  23. Rebecca says:

    hurray for R names! haha

    cute cute cute :)

  24. sukipooki says:

That’s an adorable bracelet!!!! When I was in Japan, I’ll be honest, I bought the magazines with the best freebies!!! and Oh gosh it was cheap lol now they sell them for 40$! omfg I might as well just buy the thing myself! T_T but Im glad that your able to secure a subscription!

  25. mei says:

i also love sweet magazine , but i only have one T_T
    the bracelet is adorable :D

  26. Fuuka says:

Sweet looks cute! I used to read Zipper every month, but like you said, I have changed and find myself buying it less and less. (haven’t for probably 6 months now. I just read in the store) I have been leaning towards CanCan and AneCan recently though. I like the articles and the work-wear clothing. Plus I think Yamada Yuu is gorgeous! lol

  27. Ys says:

Ooh cute freebie! Makes it worth the subscription in itself I think :)
