calm before the storm, hurricane Ivan log (15)

On the way home from picking up my paycheck we were stopped on a stand still traffic street when suddenly a car slammed into us from behind. Mike’s bumper is badly damaged and my neck was snapped back onto the seat. My neck is slightly sore now, but I’ll be fine and don’t think I’ll need to get it looked at. The whole ordeal was terrible. The roads are, needless to say, unbearably jammed. We got all the insurance things straightened out and the guy that hit us seemed nice enough and terribly sorry. He said his brakes went out. It’s just another thing to worry about now besides the hurricane.

I’ll try to stay connected as long as possible. Hopefully power & DSL won’t go, but if they do you’ll know it because I plan to update every few hours with some photos. Ivan is supposed to hit early Thursday morning. Thanks everyone for the support!

mumble, mumble, my life’s a jumble (5)

I’m so glad the cop seems to be staying at the apartments for the storm as well because without him here we might actually have had a peaceful hurricane. Seriously though, his loud talking/tv watching/whatever else is getting fuckin’ old. SIGH~

We went hurricane shopping last night at 12 am. So many people it took 20 minutes to check out. Water/canned goods/candles/fruit boxes were almost already totally gone. Heard there were 400 customers in Wal-mart at 2 am. CRAZY~

University is closed tomorrow, Thursday and Friday. That’s good. My mom called twice today. She’s pretty freaked out. I think it’s not so much the hurricane as it is me being away from them for the first time. I’m scared to think that we might not be able to communicate during and after. Not knowing will kill me you know. Phone lines are always last to go down at their house though, but I dunno about this apartment and my cell phone is already having issues because the tower is SOOO busy right now that it’s hard to get through.

install (11)

I’m jinxed. I had the WORST CD-ROM luck today. In my afternoon class we had to install Linux on our removable hard drives. Well, I kept getting bum discs!! First I had to go into the BIOS and switch the bootable drives, then my CD 1 paused out and I had to start over but my professor was messing with my machine and he put the messed up disc BACK into my drive without me knowing and of course after 15 of installing it paused out!!! I was so… ARG! So then I get a good Disc 1 but the 2nd disc just wouldn’t mount. I tried around 10 disc 2s till I gave up and said screw it. Left my professor a note and all. I wasn’t alone, a lot of ppl had installation problems b/c Linux doesn’t recognize the new hardware on these PCs (we are using an older Red Hat OS.)

So, about 2 hours later I’m in my night class… doing what? Installing Windows XP. Hit a few snags there too but in the end got it together. The disc my professor burned me didn’t work on boot-up. I tested it first but he blamed everyone for not “testing it correctly.” whatever that means.

Needless to say I came home with a headache ***sigh. After getting some food I felt much better and want to get some knitting in before it’s too late. My head is still a little o_o and I’m slightly irritated b/c Mike keeps calling me and talking to me while I’m trying to type this! hahaha, I know cute huh?… gets annoying after 4 years, hahahaha <3: luv you Mike.
