Dinner at Clyde’s

Friday, July 23rd, 2010 | 51 Comments

Yesterday was a sorta rough day. :F Though the doctors said I’d be done with everything before my Japan trip, they called yesterday and said otherwise. It was so distressing. So Mike wanted to take me out to dinner. To take my mind off it.

He said anywhere I wanted to go! But I couldn’t think of anywhere and I wasn’t feeling hungry because I was so upset. So instead he asked, “OK, where DON’T you want to go & I’ll surprise you!” Sadly I thought of a long list of “no’s” haahaa. So he picked me up and we drove~~ Drove to a new area I’ve never even been before.

He drove us to this establishment of the Clyde’s Restaurants nestled between these big office parks! I had no idea it was even there! It was all old school lodge/cabin style. :!: It was really nice and the food, TO DIE FOR. I only knew of the Clyde’s in Georgetown, Chevy Chase, and have only been to the Old Ebbit Grill in downtown DC. This particular one was even better! Seriously one of the best restaurant experieces we’ve had in a long, long time. Good food, atmosphere, and service!

The Food
Started off with a cold Peach and Cantaloupe soup garnished with mint!
Next was my entree of Eggplant Parmesan!
I haven’t had GOOD eggplant parm in a long, long time. This was one of the best I’ve ever had.
Ended with the Cherry Chocolate Crunch. Basically cherry cobbler with a chocolate oatmeal cookie baked inside topped with vanilla ice cream!

They gave us a really nice booth, it felt really private and far from the other tables which I truly appreciated.

Also THERE WERE NO KIDS! It never fails, you could be at a 60$ plate restaurant and DC people still bring their bratty kids! But I think because this establishment was nestled away that only knowledgeable adults know of it. That or they put kids in a separate dining room. They have 3 dining rooms here. One is by reservation only and has a gorgeous view of wooded areas.

The moment we saw the owl on the menu we knew this was gonna be good!

My makeup was really simple that night. I used the KATE brand eye palette and Dolly Wink brown eyeliner pencil I got from Yesstyle.

I think KATE eyeshadows have to be my favorite~~! They’re always so pigmented and the palettes give you a great selection for a whole look. I used the same palette on this day too. Last night I paired it with a light glitter purple shade (Grifter) from Urban Decay.

I’m really loving the brown Dolly Wink eye pencil! More than I expected! It’s a deeper brown which I like. It goes on really smooth and I haven’t seen any bad smudging and I’ve only had a little light transfer to my upper eye crease after about8 hours of wear. This is pretty good since even my Anna Sui black waterproof pencil has some transfer after about 6 hours of wear. My eyelids tend to get oily after a few hours. (I have oily type skin) It’s why I always use an eyeshadow primer with my eye makeup. :good:

A super close up on the eyemake (eyeball photo LOL) if you’re interested.

Today I just worked, studied for my cert class that’s next week, ate dinner, then ran some Target errands & hit up my favorite froyo place. Sadly they’re THE BEST in town and a year later THE SECRET’S OUT! They’re always packed now! Last summer we’d go there and have the place all to ourselves or with just a couple of teens. Now it’s always slammed with mothers and bratty kids pushing and shoving and causing me rage….

We’re gonna try a new place to see if they’ve gotten ANY better since opening. It just sucks because our favorite place really has the freshest fruits and most legit frozen yogurt. But they now have the RUDEST customers and are always “low on mix” so the machines don’t work.

Anyway.

PMS + a smelly-pooped-filled-diaper kid pushing me made me rage and pile sugar upon sugar onto my non-fat froyo (defeats the point of the non-fat I guess, LOL ) I never get sugary topping but EFF it. I’m pmsing!!!

oh, i hope whatever is the matter at/with the doctor’s office goes well!! stress before/during travel is NOT fun :( :( :(

that soup looks soooooo good, though omg

b-brown pencil eyeliner that doesn’t smudge horribly?? NEED. i always want a nice pencil liner to wear on my ‘lazy’ days but they’re all a weird colour of brown or they just smudge so easily it’s like ‘….what’s the point??’

Hah, you’re like me. I ABSOLUTELY CANNOT STAND BRATTY/LOUD/OBNOXIOUS KIDS! And yes, I typed it all in caps just to make my point

Anyway, even though I don’t know what’s going on, I hope everything will work out with you and your doctor. Hope it’s nothing serious.

Oh, and I think it’s really sweet of Mike for taking you out to make you feel better. On top of that, the food was great too

Lollll~ Poop-filled diapers! =D
I don’t like it either when mother’s & their young children are super-selfish and pushy!
I call their strollers “Tanks” because the mother’s treat them like that!
As if they can own the street/store,
and shove their way through annnnyyything because they have a baby…! O_O;;

The eye-make looks really good on you,
you have such nice eyes! ^^

And sugar is always good!
I just got my wisdom teeth (only 2) removed,
so I’ve had my share of sugary sweets, lol~~

jenny said
July 25, 2010 @ 8:13 pm

LOL “tanks” is perfectly fitting!

Wishing you a fast recovery from the wisdom teeth removal!

Awe, that was so sweet of Mike to take you out~ I want a thoughtful hubby like that one day! ♥
I know what you mean about kids in restaurants, ugh… I just don’t understand how anyone from the age of 0-12 is going to enjoy any other food besides McDonald’s It’s one of my pet peeves too so I’m glad you got to enjoy a nice night out sans the brats! The food looks amazing too~
& I have to say again how much I love how you do your make ♥ So simple & fresh!

I think PMS is a free- pass to eating foods you normally wouldn’t

I’m guessing you went to Clyde’s in Tyson’s? That’s right near my job! I guess you could say they’re the “rival” for the restaurant I work for

I always love your eye makeup! I’m too lazy to check if you’ve ever done these but if you HAVEN’T, maybe you should make little tutorials on it!

Aww, Mike is such a sweetie! I’m sorry your plans have been royally screwed, but it’s good you have a nice guy to help cheer you up! The food and atmosphere both look lovely… I guess haveing grown up in a family that doesn’t eat out much, just going out can be a real treat! Seems like a wonderful evening~

Brown eye liner looks nice! I tried some tan kind, but it was too light on my skin and black seems too dark? ahaha, I usually use a dusky brown eye shadow for eye linear, anyway. But will give a dark brown a shot when I can. ^_- OH! You have oily skin, too? Sometimes I feel like I gotta wash my face every few hours!! It makes me crazy. I hope it’s ok to ask, but do you use any…de-moisterizing makeup? (lol) I’ve seen OIL CUT in j-mags, but can’t find any thing of the sort in the states for daily wear. The best I can find is oil free foundation, which to me sounds like no EXTRA oil. Thanks, I’ve got plenty -_-;;

AND FUCK IT, GO GET YOUR CHOCOLATE. YOU DESERVE IT. LOL

jenny said
July 25, 2010 @ 7:45 pm

Yea it took me a while to get used to black liner on my top lid, but I still don’t like it on my bottom. Too dark looking on me

De-moisturizing?? Probably my nightly toner from Clinique (acne version) helps a bit with the oily skin. I swear by blotting sheets. Clean & Clear’s oil blotting sheets once a day (usually around 2:00) make a huuuge difference in both freshening up my makeup and keeping acne away!

Courtney said
July 26, 2010 @ 1:55 am

Definitely too much for me as well~

And thanks for the advice! I like the blotting sheets too, I totally forgot I should refill on those. Thanks!!

oh no. Those DC kids must be really nasty and rude for u to dislike them so much!
Weirdly, I don’t usually get PMS. Or is it because I got mood swings all the time so I can’t tell the difference! Haha.

YUM! The food looks good!

ZZZ. It is Sunday. And I am here at the office to work! *sob!

Love your eyemakeup, it looks very nice on you. What brand here in america would you say is comparable to the KATE eyeshadows? and have you tried the liquid black Dolywink eyeilner? I heard good things about it also!
Just curious, where is that particular Clyde’s located? I live near the DC area and would love to check it out one day!

jenny said
July 25, 2010 @ 7:42 pm

I don’t really know. I haven’t actually found a shadow I could compare it too, especially the glitter palettes. All my glitter US shadows (urban decay) flake the glitter everywhere on your face after a while but KATE’S doesn’t. This palette *above* I can say reminds me of my old Physician’s Formula tri-baked dry/wet palette in brown.

This Clyde’s is the Tower Oaks Lodge one and is in Rockville, MD

That place looks so nice! The peach & cantoloupe soup sound so delicious~! I agree with you. I hate it when I go somewhere & there’s kids running around screaming or crying. It annoys me and ruins my appetite. I can’t imagine it happening at a fancy restaurant though… At least it rarely happens here…

The froyo looks good… I think it’s okay to treat yourself sometimes ;D

hey jenny! I was just wondering what product did you use on your lower lid in your eye make picture? Is it a glitter liner or just a glittery eyeshadow? It looks so cute on you! I’ve tried lining my lower lid with a glitter liner by victoria secret but once it dries it starts to get a bit itchy so I end up semi-scratching it off XP Thanks!

jenny said
July 25, 2010 @ 7:39 pm

It’s Koji’s モテ瞳Sister ( http://www.koji-honpo.co.jp/pickup/index_090901_glitter.html )
I’m really happy with this liner, glitter doesn’t flake off but it’s not too drying either. My only bad experience was when I accidentally once was putting in eyedrops for my contacts and got it on my glitter liner and it then got into my eye that way & stung a tiny bit. LESSON LEARNED LOL
