Birthday Wish Thoughts
Wednesday, March 9th, 2011 | 67 Comments
I sorta wanna do something for my birthday.
Like another little change. Can’t chop all my hair off, already did that at Xmas lol.
The following 3 things have been on my mind recently:
Perm & Cut
My perm is basically gone.
She said it would be about 3 months and she was right. Especially with the new regrowth my roots lack all body again. I have to tease and tease again for volume. *hate*
Amazing the difference that perm made. I got used to never having to tease my hair anymore
. So I was thinking of getting about 2 inches cut off again and another perm! The only fear is doing perms so often and my hair is quite fine and delicate.

Hair Color
I don’t think my hair could withstand both dye and perm so close to one another so I worry doing both would be TOO MUCH chemical damage. If I dyed it I think I’d go darker!
Though seems a bit odd going darker for spring. Not to mention upkeep or hiding roots.
But I feel bored with my color sometimes and haven’t dyed it since college. If I did go darker I think I’d keep the length it’s at.
But if I went blonder maybe I’d get it cut a little while after…

Darker shades that are appealing to me. The top two are from John Frieda Precision Foam Colour using their shade finder that starts with your current natural color. The Palty box cover just really reflects the color I’m thinking too~~~

Ear Piercing!
This one is random!
But on & off again I think of getting another set of lobe piercings.
I just have the traditional 1-hole pierced ear type
. I think the double look is sorta glamorous and mature looking with rhinestone studs.
In the past though I easily said “no” because I’m terrified of needles and I hardly wore earrings. Now I’m wearing earrings again all the time! So I think I’d actually put the holes to good use.
But of course I’m nervous at this thought because I recall the pain the last time, LOL~~

Get all three you say?! Well I’m too lazy for that.
I want to pick just one.
I only have 3 weeks to do it after all!
Speaking of earrings… LOOK WHAT I SAW!!!

GOLD UNICORN EARRINGS!! They look just like mine!!??? WTF, lol!! Popular design for decades? Hahahhaaa!
All the earrings shots, etc. are from Style Arena
And a question for anyone with multiple ear piercings… I asked Karme and she said she had the matching number of holes in each ear, which I thought was the norm, but many of these girls in the Style Arena photos have an odd number. Like 1 hole in the right ear, 2 in left. I know it’s probably a really daft question, I’m just curious. Thinking trends are different everywhere

My birthday is coming up soon too, and since I’m turning twenty I want to do something different as well! I’m still deciding
I love the unicorn earrings, and strangely enough I purchased a pair of horse earrings today; not quite the same but it made me laugh nonetheless.
I have a matching number of holes (hm, almost sounds dirty) in each ear, the traditional set, and another right above it. In my left ear, at the top, I also have a cartilage piercing. That type of piercing usually isn’t matched like the ones on the lower part of the ear, from what I’ve seen. If you wanted to do the not matching thing though, you could always leave an earring out or maybe wear a clear one.
I think the double lobe earrings look really good~ Especially when you have a little diamond stud on one of them!
I really like medium natural brown~ I get so sick of roots growing out too, but I’m afraid that if it dye them too soon my hair will just die, lol. X( What’s your natural hair colour? ^__^
Whatever you decide, I’m sure it’ll look awesome!
My birthday is soon too! I’m turning 18, actually doing near to all three things you listed here, LOL. Dying hair, cutting, and getting ears pierced. I have no piercings whatsoever, so I’m nervous about it hurting a lot…
oh my gosh, I love those initial earrings! So fun with two holes. I’ve been heavily debating getting my nose pierced. I’m so afraid of appearing unprofessional in the work world. ; ;
My birthday is coming too, is next month.
I always liked this second hole in the ear, but I rarely wear earrings, although I have only one hole.
I was thinking of doing something new, change, but something like learning to cook or sew.
I just had my birthday this Monday, and I chopped off about 5 inches of hair and had it dyed a warm, “natural” brown. I LOVE it.
I suggest you dye your hair, too! Especially since mentioning you haven’t done so in a while. I think the medium natural brown would look very pretty for you.
Good luck choosing a change for your birthday, Jenny!
Oh, speaking of golden earrings, I received dainty golden crown earrings for my birthday! Absolutely adorable. I wonder if there IS a growing/returning trend for golden or golden unicorn earrings? Haha.
i actually wanted three holes in my left ear and two in my right ear when i was younger .. wow that was weird to type out haha. but yeah, i dunno! whatever you like i guess?? i like the double piercing it’s cute!
For some reason the innocent word “holes” seems perverted to say lol
Good luck with picking what you want to do for your birthday.
I’m trying to figure out if I want to get a new tattoo or a piercing for mine, but I have months left to pick.
I have two piercings in my right ear - both are in the lobe. & I have four in my left ear - three in the lobe and one in the cartilage.
I got my second holes pierced when I was 16 and I rarely wear anything in them. I kinda want to get just really basic tiny black hoops to wear…My vote is for you to go for the perm and piercing!
Yay! That caramel/mocha color is super nice, I think it would look good on you
I wish I could have my ears piiiiierced (they keep getting allergic reactions - twice now! boohoo) but I never noticed the odd/even ratio before
I would vote for the ear piercing because it’s more of something you can remember your birthday for since I feel like hair cuts and hair dyes are much more common for other times of the year.
i’d love to see you in a darker hair color.
while the idea of another piercing is intriguing i worry if it’s just one of those fleeting feelings that you may regret in 10 years or less
I think that both are great ideas but i kind of like the piercing more. You never know how the color is going to actually turn out right? Though the surprise could actually be a good thing!^^ And i’ve always wanted to get a second ear piercing too, but i’m afraid of needles also, so i haven’t been able to yet. I hope you’re happy with whatever choice you do make though!
I vote for hair colour especially after seeing how awesome you look with darker hair :3 It would probably be the most ‘dramatic’ change too, unless you got like a super-curly perm or gauge piercings in your ears, lol xP
Hmm. I got my second set of lobe piercings in Japan. Have never regretted it for a second. (Now if only I had been able to get that tattoo in Yokohama…
I can’t really imagine not having symmetrical piercings on your lobes. It just seems kind of strange–if you’re not a rockstar or whatever. haha. I also think it would be fun to try a darker color, so my vote goes for both the piercings and the dye job.
Love everything you’ve decided (or are deciding) to try!
I’m actually looking into getting a third (so un-even) piercing! It’s very common in asia - although many are because they a) tried piercing their own and only got through the pain of one (really!), forgot to put an earring in and it closed over, or it got infected and it closed over!
So I’m not sure if it’s so much to do with style, other than forgetfulness and folly!
I’ll be dying my hair a chocolate brown soon - since I would like my hair to be a little lighter, but not brassy ): But as my natural colour is black, nice ashy browns have a tendency to go brassy withing a few weeks!
I have a matching number. The first piercings I got as a baby, I kept crying and moving so they are uneven. It makes me so self-conscious since one’s higher the other. The second ones I got were almost mid-ear, higher than the girls in the picture. I got those in 7th grade, actually my grandmother pierced my ears and it was even! I got the top/cartiledge pierced in 9th or 10th grade. I haven’t worn earring in this piercing for almost 2 years, so I wonder if it’s healed over. I remember guys in high school who would talk about the “gay ear” and which side you pierced…reminds me of an episode of The Office where Kelly is trying to pierce Andy’s ear.
Last year for my birthday, I highlighted/lowlighted my hair and got a haircut. I was flirting with the idea of a tattoo. But I couldn’t get myself to commit to something so permanent and I couldn’t decide where to place it.
Haha, talking about ear piercing, I’m also a very traditional person meaning I like one on both side and that’s what I have now. But at least from where I come from, i.e. China, it’s really more common to see people having unbalanced piercings on each side, like you said, one on one side and two on the other side and the like. I personally don’t like that but that’s just because I like equal number on both side
I think it would be good for you to add another pair.
I had my hair cut today xD!
I wouldn’t know what to recommend you. On the one side, getting another set of lobe piercing looks cute! Loved the those initial earrings n_n!
On the other side, perm makes life really easy. My friends prefer doing a perm every 3 months while taking care of their hair with special hair products.
Agree, dyeing your hair darker is not for spring. Of the two color options, medium natural brown looks good for you =D!
LOL! That dark chocolate brown is my hair color xD!
xoxo
I’ve been thinking about getting my cartilage pierced for EVER… never got around to it because everytime I think about it, I hear my friend who studies eastern medicine say that it will make my circulation weaker :/ :/ :/
Although a week back I was thinking about another lobe piercing too… I really like the girl who had alphabet earrings
& I’ve dyed my hair with palty before.. It’s not very damaging, I mean color-wise it was good, but washed out quickly :/
good luck with your hair decisions P:
u can take all of them back BUT the ear piercings….idk, i’d go with the perm, them maybe a rinse a few weeks later (natural instincts and a good one, my friend does them every month going from ginger to dark black/brown and her hair is fine, she has an amelie hair cut)
the perm would be cute!!!
Do the piercing! Is so much more fun!
Haha! I have 2 in each ear and I love being able to wear two different earrings. As far as the different number in each ear I feel like getting an odd number is more un-professional than having an even amount. Unless you were doing a cartilage one. But Idk how strict your job would be on that, and they hurt really bad! Lol. Plus if you don’t like it you can always take it out.
But the perm is also good just out of laziness and quicker hair styling in the morning
But hey, you could always do both eventually! And you don’t have to worry about them affecting each other.
I’d vote for ear piercing or cutting your hair. The thing about dying your hair is that it’s very damaging and you’ll need to keep dying it as the roots grow out. I actually have to dye my hair every 2 months or so which is pretty bad. But I also usually trim my ends and do an oil treatment after I have dyed my hair to cure the damage I have done. If you think about it in the long run, you’ll have to keep dying it again and again and it’s not very healthy for you hair. I wish I could stop dying my hair so much but I can’t bear to see the ugliness of having the roots grow out completely back to my natural hair colour….it would take a long process too! Maybe you could consider doing highlights?
Cutting your hair seems like a much more healthier choice since you can get a new look without damaging your hair. And the idea of getting another piercing sounds much better too because you only have to do it once!
I’m thinking of getting extra ear piercings soon, too :3 Only have one in each ear… when I was a kid my mom told me not to get more done because I would regret it someday, but she was totally wrong
Here in Tokyo, I’ve seen both even and odd numbers, and the number/location doesn’t seem to have a meaning for either girls or guys.
There are so many cute earring + coordinating studs sets sold in accessory shops here… want!
I love the letter earrings and the unicorn earrings you posted above!
From the couple pics I’ve seen of you I vote NO to a different hair color because I love your hair color!! So I would say either the perm and/or piercings!
Personally, I have odd numbered holes in my ears. I gained my inspiration to do that from Nana Osaki in the manga NANA. She has an odd number of holes in her ears as well haha! But I love it! Gives it some flavor :]
i have three on one ear and two on the other
i’m thinking of getting two cartilage pierces like the third earring picture !
i like uneven piercings because i feel like if it’s even, then in a way it feels like the look is kind of heavy ? like too much ? hahah
OMG DO ITTTTTTTTTTTTTTT LOL
get the second piercing! hahaaaa
ps: IM IN LOVE WITH THE MOON&STARS EARINGS!
If you’re only picking one, that’s a tough decision you’ve got on your hands! I really like your hair color right now though, so maybe go with the perm and cut?? But then again if you get the piercings, they would last forever!! xD
I vote for perm and second piercing! I also got a second piercing but it closed on my left ear and Im just too lazy to get it repierced lol!
I think I like the piercings-idea most

I have one left and two on the right. I’d like to get more some day.. maybe one in each ear again… I don’t know xD
One of my friends has 4 on one side and 1 on the other, while one of the 4 is an “upper” ear piercing you know?
same about another friend… but she has 2 in one, and 3 in the other (one upper piecing)
and a lot of friends have 2 in each ear
but most have just one in each (^-^)
I know you only want to pick one but go for the Hair color! &/or piercing.
I have even numbers, 2 on each side ^-^
One important note though!!:
Make sure that they pierce the second holes far enough from the first holes.
Because my pierce-woman didn’t do that and now my holes are too close to each other, so most of the time my earrings overlap each other which is so annoying!
i have the traditional lobe piercings and 1 cartilage.
and the only thing i wear is my cartilage stud. i don’t know what to do with my lobes anymore. i figured more piercings will just lead to more money spent on ear accessories
buhh!!!
I have way too many pericings… right ear regular lobe, as well as cartilage and tragus, left ear lower cartilage and regular lobe… i had 2 above the regular piercing and i hate it now because there are so many holes and ive taken them out for a few years and never go away… KEEP YOUR EARS CLEAN!
i think i’m getting a perm, so you should get one too +_+ I WANT TO BE JUST LIKE YOU JENNY *heavy breathing
but really, one of my good friends here got a perm in january (she has long hair) and it’s SO GORGEOUS. looks like the style i do when i curl my hair for the day! so i want to get it to make my getting-ready in the mornings easier…ahhh we’ll see~~ these decisions are hard, yo!
i have an uneven piercings; two in the right and one in the left. acutally, my mom got the additional one in the right done WITH me haha as a sort-of matching mother-daughter thing. i like having the extra one (if i got more i’d keep it uneven) because i’ll sometimes loose one earring and this way i can still wear that ONE that i didn’t lose 8D; but normally i just have a stud/fake diamond in it.
I have 4 holes on the left and 2 on the right.
Wouldn’t say its an odd number, keke.
Ive got 3 on my left and 2 on my right, all on my lobes~
I did a few of them myself though, ahh
Ear piercing! Only because it’s permanent ;P & because it wouldn’t damage your hair. Don’t you just hate decisions like these? The thought of each of them is so thrilling!
xx
I have 2 earlobe piercings on my right ear && 3 on my left ear xD And I’m thinking about getting a cartilage piercing lol. I love earrings. I wear them with studs all the time =]
I want to get a perm, too, cause my hair is so fine als && I want a lot of volume =D But I’m not sure if it would look good on me.
I love ear piercings and I have one hole in my left ear and two in my right but I want to make some more^^
I think you should go for an ear piercing, it’s something you will have all the time and there are so many cute earrings to wear
I would go for coloring if I were you! But a perm sounds like it would be more useful and make your life easier over time. My hair is very thin as well, so I understand what you mean when you say you have no volume. Mine goes pretty flat my the end of the day, but it’s also pretty long so I always end up tying it back u_____u'’
For earrings, I have only one whole on each side of my lobes too. BUT I have the TOP of my right ear pierced. I got it done back in high school and I used to always change the earring in there. But lately I haven’t worn any in it… The last earring I got for it was gorgeous but it hurt to wore it so I never took the time to look into buying different studs. I should probably put something through it just to make sure it hasn’t closed on itself…
I say, get all 3 hahaha!
)
I know this feeling that you need to change smth or get smth new. U should try to dye ur hair ( dunno if this color will suits u but pretty looks pretty with everything
Spring is coming, b-day is coming time to do crazy things!
I guess it just happens to have odd number piercings? haha, I have 6 on right and 5 on my left!
Haha~ Speaking of piercings I was never allowed to get them (My mom wouldn’t let me), so I when I was 16 I went into sneaky-mode and got double lobe piercings
~ I say go for them, I think they look cute~ Either two studs or one dangly and a stud, so many more combos to choose from! =D
Also, I’ve never used Palty to dye my hair… If you do decide to dye your hair, and use Palty, I wonder how it would compare to salon dye..? =O
believe me. i thought it wouldn’t hurt. but after 2 days my ear was swollen and bled like crazy!!! :(
the odd number in japan ( i had odd earrings too and this was the reason i did because i was told by my mom but idk if its true) means lucky. odd is concidered lucky than even numbers. like 7 i guess. im just letting you know~
I think the brown would be a lovely change! It looked gorgeous on you when you wore your brown wig!
I have an odd number of piercings - 1 on my right ear and 3 on my left! I think it looks more unique, haha! I pierced my second love piercing and cartilage by myself with a needle and some rubbing alcohol and it didn’t hurt much at all! Just some light swelling for a few days and it was fine!
I’ve got an even number of lobe piercings in each ear. (3 on each) as well as a cartilage piercing. Odd numbers on lobes kinda bug me. And I see more people with an even number. Two looks very nice with rhinestone studs as well as one stud, one dangley.
I currently have an even number of piercings on my ears (3 in each ear) but I want to continue piercing, but from now on I’m planning on doing one ear at a time so I always have one side to sleep on while my piercing is healing!! I’m always partial to piercings (plus my last ear piercings were my birthday present!) , but you’d look absolutely lovely with a new hair color or cut/perm, so I can’t wait to see what you choose!
I have and odd number in my ears 3 on the right and 3 on the left, I personally like how it looks with odd numbers hahaha
I think you’d look really cute with a darker color!
And about the piercings: I have two holes on both ears, but for example my mother has 2 holes on one ear and just 1 on the other one. I think it just has to do with personal style really~
My vote goes for ear piercing. It’s permanent and less damaging
I want a second pierce as well but my parents are -_-
whoa~ it’s really hard to imagine you with a darker hair color and all curly~ i wanna see! i think you would look adorable!
i would say go for it~! Hair will grow out eventually and there are lots of repairing methods too~ ^^
oh, and ear piercings are always great! I have 6 holes in one ear, and in the other 4~ it’s fun to match earings in all the holes ^^
A perm is so cute! But I vote for the earring because that lasts longer. Idk, maybe it’s because I have a lot of hair naturally so I never see the appeal of getting my hair permed but your post definitely made me rethink my stance!
oohhh~ i have a doublt piercing on both my ears and i love it because you get to wear more than just two pairs of earrings
e
My left ear has one piercing and right ear has 3. If both sides have the same number, it makes the face too symmetrical if you know what I mean.
And I say ear-piercing over hair-dying just because its too damaging! Unless you use the ones with no ammonia? =]
I’ve got an odd number, though it’s SORTA even. I got three lobe piercings on my right and a cartilage and normal lobe piercing on my left
Oh also some of the bigger studs make my right ear feel “crowded” sometimes and at times it’ll cover the second live piercing, but sinxe I have 3 I can still have an extra piercing. Lol does that make sense? Haha sorry just something to keep in mind is all
I’m thinking of going short hair too. have you checked myuu’s blog? she chooped all of her long hair and got a cute short cut. it’s adorable!
I dyed my hair dark for years and years. It’s only been in the last six months that I’ve started to grow it out. I much prefer it dark but I fancied it a change and to remember what my natural hair colour is
I don’t have any piercings in my ears at all. I let them close up when I was in my teens and never bothered again. But my sister has the two piercings in each ear, and a third in one year, up the top.
Those colors are so nice! I think both would look great on you : )
The piercing sounds as a great idea, and it’s not such a drastic change in appearence since it’s the ear, but you should think about it very well because it’s not like the hair which you can change it again if you don’t like it, the hole takes a long time to disappear. But I really like the look of two piercings in a ear! If you really like it you should go for it : )
Go for the ear piercing! I have 3 in one ear, and four in the other… both ears have two holes in the lobe, and then my left ear has one halfway up my ear in the Carthage (right where it starts) the right ear is the same, but I have another at the very top of my ear. Even if I don’t always wear earring in all of them, I know they are there, and I can mix and match where I want to wear earrings!
Hey hun!
I’m just catching up on the internet from all the Japan Earthquake/Tsunami chaos…1st stop is your blog!
Thank you for posting up so many donation sites. I have the same unfounded fear as you about it - I fear not enough people help (though I’m SURE there are)…so I’ve been promoting lots of donation sites via twitter. You turned comments off on your recent post, but I wanted to just throw that thanks out there ;3
Anyways…I wanted to comment on the earring issue…
I have some piercings!
I have an uneven number in my ears- 3 on my left, 4 on my right. I totally want and will be getting more. I’m also stretching my lobe a little bit (doesn’t hurt at all if you take it slowly). I think uneven numbers has a little more character…esp if you pierce in different parts of the ear.
I actually did 5 of them myself, with a big needle, ice, and the help of my mom. It didn’t hurt one bit..but it was a little sore while it healed…I kept very good care of it while it healed though, and I’ve never had a problem with them (yes, even my cartalidge was done this way..take a bit more time to pierce it tho)…
I say go ahead and do it!
I mean..the pain will be just for an instant, but the outcome will forever be cute!!!
I actually saw gold unicorn earrings in Sendai~~
I think uneven piercings will be cool! Keeps it interesting
Hang in there, Jenny! Sounds like you’re really having a hard time…what happened is truly awful, but have some peace of mind knowing that you did what you could to help!
Now, onto more frivolous things…

If you’re only going to pick one of the three, I definitely suggest a second piercing! I have three in each ear and LOVE them! The double earring look is super cute and you can always just leave an extra out if you need to for a formal occasion.
But heck I think any of these would look good on you and I like all the choices.
Take care Jenny!
