Just a Stream of Thoughts

Monday, March 21st, 2011 | 48 Comments

Blegh. Sorry to disappear so much lately. Haven’t felt much like blogging with the news and also not feeling so well myself. I’ve been getting dizzy while on the computer or even on my phone so I’ve been resting a lot. I’ll skip the boring details. Hopefully the overall malaise and nausea will pass as I switch off the new digestive supplements my doctor gave me and back onto my old ones. Digestive ailments run in my family unfortunately.

So I haven’t been out much but there have been a few days of spring to get me thinking FORWARD and not dwelling on the past. I really want to go all out on my balcony garden this year. Like years before. I didn’t last summer . Not really. I only get partial sun on my balcony so I have to be choosy with what I grow. . Herbs and cherry tomatoes did well in the past though so I’ll probably go with that! Mike blurted out that I shouldn’t grow strawberries again. I’m not sure why? They did attract birds a few years ago but I think he just wanted to push me toward cherry tomatoes since he eats them a ton.

Strawberries I was eating at work today
They were 2 for 1 on sale and these are very large and very delicious! Not bitter at all and can be eaten raw

Next weekend should be peak blooming time for the cherry blossoms here. I really hope the weather’s good. Last year I always ended up out there in a super cold and super gray day! At least there are some nice cherry blossom trees in my neighborhood though many were list in a big summer storm last year Ah, I just checked the weather and it’s no longer “mostly sunny” and instead “snow.”

I’m not sure if I’m going to the festival yet. We’ll see. It’s really near my birthday so I might be doing something else instead. A friend had mentioned coming up and staying with me but nothing concrete as of yet so I dunno. I dunno I dunno. All I have to say lately~~~

I got this in a fortune cookie a few days ago…
Oh fortune cookie, things are so black & white for you~~

Ah cherry tomatoes are just like regular tomatoes but really tiny the size of cherries

I agree with that fortune! I hope things turn around for you! Speaking of outdoor plants, I used to have this small strawberry plant that was amazingly tough, it sat out there all year along, went through wind, snow, slush and rain and when summer came, the strawberries did too LOL I hope there will be tons of cherry blossoms for both you and I this year! ( and a sunny day would be nice too, or is that too much to ask =(?)

Aw thank you dear. I feel stupid when a cookie is wiser than I!!! Yeah warm weather will definitely affect them with blooming. I was hoping ours would bloom a bit earlier but it’s been mostly cold here :(

Every day :( Will probably take a good 4~6 weeks to stop cuz that’s how long it took last time =Y

God, 4 - 6 weeks?!
I hope it’s sooner than that ; _ ;

feeling like adding a new comment is too mainstream for me, I shall be hip and just reply off M’s ahahaha orz

PS. You can get bitter strawberries? Ours is mostly sour (even if they’re massive and ripe). think I’ve only had nice and sweet strawberries once in my life o__e

jenny said
March 22, 2011 @ 7:19 pm

LOL UNACCEPTABLE WINN!!!

Yeah the 4~6 is just a guess because that’s how long it took this summer when I started them. Hopefully that time will be in half but already it’s 2 weeks =Y

Eh most non-summer strawberries here taste bitter. But most people bake them so no one notices but I only eat them raw

(Comments wont nest below this level)

Yay I want to garden a lot this spring too!! Sadly I am terrible at it. I remember keeping up with your plants growing progress in like 2006!

Stay strong, girl! The heart is a castle that can not be conquered!!

G-Gardening, pretty much 200% impossible for me since I am insanely afraid of worms! I planted some tomatos once in a pot, but I’m always too scared to actually go out into the garden and plant anything. (Except watering the grass, haha.)

Even though I always laugh at what those fortune cookies says, I also look forward to it. Just like my horoscopes……….. (^O^☆♪

You’re lucky to get to see Cherry blossoms, the only thing I see here in spring is the slush everywhere. Hope you feel better soon, even if the weather is still so shitty.

Ugh I don’t blame you! I have a balcony garden and STILL get pests!! I swear they’re in the potting soil idek =___=;;;

hey jenny! hope you’re well and im glad that you’re allowing comments again!
mmmmm i love strawberries! theyre my favourite fruit! (incase you havnt noticed from my blog’s url ) hahaha anyway, over here strawberries and bananas in particular are short in supply due to the flooding in queensland, australia .. and because of that, a really popular dessert place in my area called passionflower is charging extra $2 for each item because of the increased demand!!
bananas are also hard to buy! one friend bought 4 bananas for $11!! getting so expensivee now :(

haha you’re looking forward to spring but i honestly can’t wait for winter!! its autumn over here so the weathers already starting to get rainy and cold!

jenny said
March 21, 2011 @ 6:55 pm

Ah, *nods* yes comments back on! I’m feeling better than before and ready to have conversation again I think :3

11$!? Oh my gosh :( Sometimes I feel so horribly spoiled living in the States, we usually have good supplies but sometimes there are shortages and yea, price hikes are so stressing.

I feel like we can, at least a little, share similar clothing weather in spring/fall with you guys \/

Hello Jenny,
I’ve been reading your blog for almost a year now and enjoying it…but never reply or comment on your blog.

Since comment was off on the previous topic of the whole Japan earthquake situation, I want to let you know that you are not alone!
I used to study abroad in Sendai and have love ones over there. It is tough to cope with BUT please stay strong and pray for the best!

PS: Get well soon~ & Happy early Birthday!

Kaoru

No, YOU stay strong OK!!! I hope everyone you know is OK and safe and warm. I can’t imagine having actually been to the area and seeing it wiped away really. I experienced Hurricane Katrina and it damaged my hometown and memories, but this… this is so, so much worse! Million times worse and I can’t even grasp what it must truly be like.

Thank you for your comment. I’m here if you need someone to talk to :3v

aww, i hope you feel better ;w; tummy problems are no fun~

it’s so cold here, the blossoms are still hiding ;O; it even snows sometimes, so I think we have to wait until Apr =/

Are they charging for the festival? I was there last year, so I was sad to hear they were going to charge now ;__;It’s always been free.. Ah well I suppose♥

jenny said
March 21, 2011 @ 8:28 pm

Yeah first time in like 15 years they’ve had to charge, apparently the budget was severely slashed this year so it was either charge $5 or no festival at all.

Aw, I hope you feel better :( I didn’t know the festival would be charged. How do they even do that?
Bah, I don’t even know if my friend is going with me anymore. *lonely* lol

Strawberries like to…spread. But I don’t see how that could happen on a balcony? Hm…I’ve heard you can grow kiwi in this region no problem! And they grow like grapes! I never knew that! Maybe you could plant some herbs and pick and dry them for your own tea

jenny said
March 22, 2011 @ 6:40 am

Yeah I assume they are going to barricade off the street the festival is always on so you have to pay like $5 to reach the sales and food vendors I guess.

I really hope you feel better soon & that the weather holds up so you can go see the cherry blossoms *hugs* I think all this rain & grey skies lately doesn’t do anything to help with our moods, & especially with everything that has been happening lately.
I hope you do decide to grow something on your balcony this spring though~ I remember you growing edamame & the happiness it brought you when those first shoots came up :3
Also, call me superstitious but I think you got that fortune cookie for a reason~ hang in there, sweetie *hugs*

jenny said
March 22, 2011 @ 7:41 pm

And now there’s more rain …. *sigh.* Ah the edamame did SO well!!! OK, TOO WELL!! IT GREW OUT OF CONTROL OMG xD So I won’t be growing that this year

Thank you for all your kind words ^^

Kefir is a probiotic haven. It has over 10 in it! You can get it at most health food stores. Good for everything; tummy, hair, face.

I’ll keep that in mind, right now I’m switching back to my original probiotic Acidophilus Pearls since my tummy seemed happy on it.

March 23, 2011 @ 8:20 am

Thank you :3

Strawberries, in my experience, are very fickle plants and need just the right amount of light and water and care or else they freak out ;_; I got a few berries from my plants in the past but not enough to baby them so much xDDD

Ah I hope you feel better soon. Digestive problems run in my family too (so far they only affect me mildly, though) so I can totally sympathise. My mum and sister get it really bad :(

Our strawberry plants spread through our garden. They hop easily from one plant pot to the next. Mad isn’t it? They’re such an invasive but yummy plant I’ve just started doing the garden this year cos the sun is so warm with us this week. Hopefully you’ll get perfect gardening weather too

Sounds like you’re doing a little better. I’m sorry this is a tough time for you…

*sigh isn’t it disappointing when the fortune cookie makes things sound so simple? And you want to take its advice!

Gardening sounds really nice! I think that can be a good way to find a rewarding hobby that’s not so $$. Plus it’s wonderful getting something out of it and seeing your plants grow until you can eat them. ^^ Aw, you should grow a few strawberries and reward yourself with a little shortcake :3
