Clarisonic and Butter London

Thursday December 01, 2011

I got this butter London polish at South Moon Under last night on the way to dinner. I love red and the glitter makes this perfect for the holidays! It’s called Chancer.

Chancer
Wear this deep, “crushed glitter” red when you are feeling particularly out of his league. He doesn’t deserve you anyway.

Their holiday collection is pretty if you like purple pastels and glitter. I’m so picky with nail colors lately. Many colors I just never wear. Like blue. My favorite colors to wear are red, gold, and jade. I used to not be so picky, meh~ :P

So I finally started using my Clarisonic! Like I said it’s the Mia2. I got it on a great Black Friday deal from QVC that included a Philosophy face wash, extra “deep-pore” brush and at a great discounted price. :deco2: Plus I have until Jan 31st to try it out and return it no questions asked if I’m not happy. :ok:

I’ve always wanted one really but I am excited and nervous. I heard there can be a purging stage in the beginning as the impurities come out. I read reviews that said how soft it makes your skin and how quickly skincare products get absorbed after using it. I was skeptical … but it’s true!! Even after my first use my skincare products immediately absorbed!! And my skin really is so, so soft after using it. :)

But I’m more excited to see where my skin is in 2~4 weeks.
I bought it mainly because reviews were saying it helped reduce visible pores. These past few months my pores are really starting to show. It’s my mother’s genetics kicking in. :;_;: Her pores are huge and, as I age lolol, mine are not looking so great. I had been trying different skincare and makeup products to help with pores but I’m not 100% satisfied with any of the creams and primers I’ve tried. So I’m curious to see if the Clarisonic will help! Lately I really feel like investing in my skincare, long-term.

Ahhh I’ve wanted a Clarisonic forever, your review makes me want one more. I love sparkle nail polish too but it’s such a nightmare to get off… even with base coat! Do you have any tips? D:

    • jenny says:

IT SO IS OMG! I know, I do base coats too, doesn’t ever seem to help. For glitters I always use the sponge polish removers. It does a lot of the work for me unlike the typical cotton ball & remover combo:

      I use this – http://is.gd/MoRfl6

It comes with a “scrubbing” wand. Basically a fabric cotton ball-like scrubber on a long metal stick :) It sits inside the jar and you can remove it to use it whenever you like.

aaah! i used to watch qvc in my apartment when i was bored back in college. they always had such interesting deals! anyway, loving that nail lacquer! such a festive color! btw i ended up buying a short plaid dress, your outfit inspo posts got to me! haha

    • jenny says:

YES! I WATCHED IT BECAUSE I WAS SICK ALL WEEK!! Hahahahahah. There’s nothing else on~

Awe your dress sounds so cute! I’m glad you found the posts inspiring too! I mostly do it for my own inspo but am always surprised & happy when others like it too :D

  3. Chloe says:

I just got the Butter London Purple pastel kind of colour in a magazine yesterday, what a coincidence! Usually nail polish feels really heavy on my nails… so i’m still unsure if I should use it or not xD aha.

    • jenny says:

In a magazine? As a freebie or something? If so, lucky! Well maybe wait for a special day or night out then if you think it might feel … hmm, cumbersome on :D

      • Chloe says:

Yes, I know right? I always use to just buy the magazine for them x3. Hmm maybe, and anyway i’ve been meaning to ask you somthing lately, completely not related to this post haha. So i’ll just message you on tumblr about it I guess :o

        • jenny says:

Oh which magazines include these? I’ll admit I only buy US mags when flying.

I’m sorry. I don’t have messages enabled on my Tumblr. But you can email me [email protected] or tweet me or comment here :)

          • Chloe says:

Oh I live in Australia, so it’s the Australian addition of Madison :D I don’t know if they have the magazine over there… bahaha. Oh thats fine, I shall~

  4. Louise says:

It’s like an electric toothbrush for your face? Weird! I mostly just splash water on my face to clean it (no soap unless I get really sweaty) so maybe this isnt’ for me.

I love wearing glitter polishes, but they’re such a pain to remove! That’s what keeps me from wearing them more.

  5. Tilleul says:

Yes! I want one of these. At first I thought it just brushed your face, and I thought, “Ouch! No!”, but now that I know it has some kind of magical vibrating cleaning power I want it. Do let us know if it is fantastic or not. Do you use any retinoids? I think they are the best thing ever for skin.

    • jenny says:

I use an eye cream with retinol in it but that’s it I think :) My main focus is always acne, it’s something I’m always having to keep under control.

  6. HamCham says:

omg, two products I’ve really wanted to try… please let us know how it works for you! (:
The nail colour is gorgeous, too~ since I’ve started keeping my nails short for piano I haven’t painted them once D:

  7. Bianca says:

Hmmm…yeh I’ve been looking into one of those face scrubbies I wanted a gentile neutragena one…well see

And I thought u liked teal nails :/

  8. Tori says:

That nail colour is gorgeous! My best friend LOVES Butter London, haha.
I totally know what you mean about wanting to invest in skincare~ I’ve been feeling exactly the same too. I don’t have the Clairsonic, but my mum got me the Olay ProX cleanser (which is similar) for my bday & it’s been working really well! My extended Xmas list is full of Kiehl’s & Caudalie products too ♥

  9. Kanon says:

Looks like we have the same one ! LOL is it pink …? How often do you use ? I’m not sure wether I should use it daily or 2days once.

And omg the nail color looks so nice !
I’ve never seen this series… do they have it at regular drug store…?

    • jenny says:

I got the white one even though they had a ton of limited edition colors and prints :3

Butter London isn’t a drugstore brand. It’s usually in boutiques or online, Nordstroms too. Ulta carries it too but I’ve never seen it in store.

  10. Black friday ;_; The “brazilian black friday” was horrible, not a great discount as for US buyers. Kinda sad actually. For some reason, i’m still on nude mode. I just use nude nail polishes and makeup. I wish i could have a more “colorful” mode XD

    • jenny says:

Nude polish is nice too! I was wearing nude all spring :)

      I used to wear colors all the time a year ago, but not anymore =Y Now I have bottles of colors I never wear ;_;

  11. Lisa says:

I love glitter or metallic polishes. Especially glitter around the holidays. :D I usually stick to green, blue and orange/red-ish polishes.

I’m really interested in how the Clarisonic works out! I have always had huge pores, so if it helps I would totally get one!

  12. Tiffany says:

OMG that color is so pretty! Reminds me of China Glaze Ruby Pumps!
And i’ve been wanting to try the clarisonic , but I’m afraid it’ll rub my skin raw D:

  13. mommo says:

Nice red! super red one :p
I love something a bit darker on my nails like red rose or red blood colors (Ruby red) lol

  14. Ooh I’ve been wanting to try that nail polish brand! It looks so lovely, I might just go get some for myself!

  15. cin says:

Oooo!!! Let me know if the Clairesonic is good! :D
I’ve been noticing how huge my pores are lately…

    • jenny says:

      Will do!

Yeah mine were just opening and opening until now I can’t have shine on my cheek or else you see all my pores! I even watched beauty tutorials on how to hide them (which thank god worked!)

I’m only on day 2 and seriously … my forehead and upper cheek pores are already shrinking!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • cin says:

        Waaa!! Awesome! :D
All I can think off is the Kate BB base is pretty good for covering pores~

        • jenny says:

That’s cool, I followed this one tutorial on applying powder differently and it worked great! But … I’d rather just NOT have them, you know? My mom’s pores are the stuff of nightmares (sorry Mom,) but she understands. She was always on me to take care of my acne and moisturize because of it.

  16. Aylin says:

Ohh my dear! I saw that nailpolish at Douglas aswell, but yeah honestly 16,95€ for a nailpolish is too much … stupid germans *rolls eyes*

  17. ShuShu ♥ says:

arww, i am looking forward the results after a few weeks! *Q* it sounds great..

    ShuShu ♥

  18. Sara Mari says:

That nail polish is such a beautiful color~!

  19. z says:

awesome! i’m also excited for the results the clarisonic gives you :D

  20. Tasja says:

Great color! I’m actually looking for one like that too :)
I really like wearing “dark”colors in winter. Black, taupe, but also deep red.
And one with glitter is just what I need :)

  21. mishi says:

That clarisonic brush looks good.. I just looked it up on the youtubes. Is it okay for exfoliation. (?)

  22. Lokkita says:

I’ve been curious about Clarisonic, glad to hear it’s working for you! Keep us updated about it, I think I may end up buying one if your experience is a positive one!

  23. Thu says:

Love this product, thanks for reviewing. Thanks for sharing, visit my blog sometimes =)

  24. Kat says:

I LOVE my Clarisonic, it is really so amazing! I had heard tons of good reviews as well and eventually got one for myself. The purging period can be kind of worrying, but trust me you’ll love it! :) Also that polish looks gorgeous~!

  25. Rosie says:

Gosh, I have the same problem with my skin- the pores are huge and it’s so sensitive so I’m forever having to be careful with products in case they bring back my acne. I got the anti-acne (though it’s called anti-blemish in the UK?) Clinique range after reading about it on your blog- it’s kept my skin calm so far but I feel like it needs something extra to help it clear up, do you think the Clarisonic could be a solution?
    x

    • jenny says:

Well it’s only been 2 days so check back in probably 2 weeks so I have a better idea. So far I’m liking it. It sounds like we have VERY similar skin types!

  26. Courtney says:

Hmm so it helps? I got one of these Clean n Clear Blackhead Erasers (which seems similar http://www.americanlifestyle.com/products/Clean%26ClearBlackheadEraser.jpg) but didn’t get any good results out of it. I have large-ish pores and always have tons of stubborn blackheads (sorry if it’s tmi :P) so I wonder if something like what you got would help.

    • jenny says:

The Clarisonic isn’t just any ole vibrating scrubber, it uses actual sonic technology (and so much more research behind it) to do deeper cleaning. It’s why it’s so much more expensive than other scrubbers ($150 compared to $15.) I’ve already seen pores closing and blackheads disappearing thankfully! And the small milia under my eyes are disappearing! I’ve only used it for 2 days too!! It really is something so much more than just a scrubber xD!

I understand your reluctance TOTALLY. And honestly, a few years ago I would NOT be swayed into spending an insane amount just to “clean my face.” But my skin is coming up on a real milestone. I’m in my late 20’s so … yea LOL. Investing in “serious business” skincare is now a priority for me.

I was starting to spend a lot of time & money on products to help shrink pores and fade lines and I realized that if I just splurged more on this now I might be able to save money down the road. A lot of reviews just… wow. The things they say! They were able to cut down on so much coverage makeup! I want that too! xD

  27. Fuuka says:

I read that you should only use your Clarisonic 2-3 times a week to avoid atopic dermatitis, which I think is the “purging” you are talking about.

    • jenny says:

Oh do you have one!? How do you like it? You only use yours 2 to 3 times a week??? Hmm. The directions say twice a day. So far no purging. Though ppl who said their skin “purged” cleared up quickly without using it less. How did you find yours at first? :)

  28. ニッキー says:

I bought the first generation Mia a while ago and I really am glad I added it to my skincare routine. I learned about it due to having a Sonic-care tooth brush (same manufacturer). I purchased mine from Sephora due to their wonderful return policy….that and I spend a lot at Sephora and gain lots of points and obtain additional promotional coupons/gift cards often. I got it for a great deal with a gift card they gave me.

It really does help clean the skin well. I do not have the same skin type as you, but I do occasionally get 1-2 small acne spots and am around your age. I use it more for just aiding in exfoliating and ensuring my light makeup is removed (press powder and a bit of lotion is what I wear on my face). I am always scared about putting things on my face, but this really gentle. I saw some reviews where people thought it was too rough! Crazy. :X

    Enjoy!

    • jenny says:

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU FOR THIS! I love hearing from people who actually HAVE the Clarisonic!!

I’m liking it so far. I still have until Jan 30th to return mine but I’m beginning to think that won’t be happening xD! The blackheads on my nose are already disappearing now!

  29. cheryl says:
