Japanese Grocery Store

Friday, Jun. 1, 2012 | 29 Comments

There’s something about foreign grocery stores I just love. Such a fundamental part of daily life. Different and universal all at once. Visited them while in Germany, Spain, France, and now Japan. Actually, visiting ones in different areas of the US has its own charms as well. Regional foods and so on. So here are a few shots I managed to sneak in between shopping. I picked up loads of fruit for the hotel fridge since I enjoy eating fresh fruit daily no matter where I am. :deco2:

I’m so beyond obsessed with pancakes after this freakin’ trip!

A little of what I bought.
I actually put those tote bags from a few posts earlier to REALLY good use :deco13::deco13:

I bought one of those pumpkin pastries and these packaged pancakes with butter inside them that were DELICIOUS. Ugh, but like a lot of things, I didn’t take a photo. Oh well~
I also bought strawberries and multiple huge apples.

OMG Pancakes with butter inside them! So bad, yet so good…
I love tagging along to groceries, too. :) Japanese grocery stores (and especially Japanese farmers’ markets) are just charming. I always grab some takoyaki before leaving, haha! Great post.

    Kanipan is so good!
They started stock the BIG versions in the specialist market near where I live and I totally can’t get enough of them!

I love visiting grocery stores in other countries too (thought that was just one of my weird habits, thank god it’s not just me, haha!) since nowhere seems to be like the UK. Nowhere else has Tesco, I guess, haha! Well, not to our crazy levels. Japanese stores always seem really different to everywhere else, including other parts of Asia.

    xo.

You are so right about visiting grocery stores in different countries or simply in your own country. They are so interesting yet similar. It’s fun to notice the odd and weird product. I personally also enjoy visiting small artisanat grocery stores. You will find the most intersting and delicious treats. The most memorable treats and foods in a trip are the local grocery store if you ask me. They have such a lovely charms.

Do you need to bake the pancake? I saw this before in Malaysia but I didn’t buy it. I have no idea how to make it. Just eat my breakfast but I feel like eating the pancake (z.z). lol

Well the photo of pancakes is an ice cream dessert version ready to eat. But I also bought regular “ready to eat” pancakes with butter. They also sold them with honey and with syrup. No baking required :)

WOW! Can I just live there?

Everything looks so cute. We don’t get many stuff because of customs regulations.
We used to get melon pan years ago, not anymore. :/ Japanese groceries over here sell more candy and snacks than pastries.

You were around Children’s day, right? Because of the koinobori.

    Thanks for sharing your pics!
