100 Calorie Packs

Sunday, July 19th, 2009 | 92 Comments

Congratulations to Gomu, the winner of the Koji Spring Heart Eyelash giveaway!!

THANK YOU to everyone who participated!! Really… I’m BLOWN AWAY by how many responses I got!!!! I didn’t expect anywhere near that many, and especially not for something like eyelashes. I wore my pair again on Friday & took this snap while in the car hoping it might give you a better idea of how they look

The Long & Volume set I ordered from yesstyle.com

SO AGAIN, THANKS EVERYONE

I wanted to share this cell phone photo tutorial that I scanned from Zipper. It’s pretty funny but also useful! I mean, self portraits are quite popular with cell phones especially on blogs. Though this is coming from someone like me who probably shares too many, hahahaa.

Our XBOX360 broke this week. It’s really quite tragic. It had to shipped off to be fixed and Mike’s been restless ever since. He played it at least 2 hours a day. During that time I would get online to blog and whatnot. Well now that HIS time is free we’re out & about SO MUCH!! I’m not complaining because I’m getting to go to tons of places and he’s taking me out to eat & such, haahaa but really it means I haven’t been online much. Which I miss.

I digress.

Had a great crab cake dinner while dining alfresco on Saturday!
Yogurt with fruit topping!! Only 80 amazing calories! Can you believe it!?

Hit up the grocery store & I got more 100 calorie packs! These are great because you’re not really sacrificing flavor, just serving size. PORTION CONTROL IS KING! I’m loving South Beach Living’s Oatmeal Chocolate Chunk and Chocolate covered Soynuts!! I’ve loved chocolate covered soybeans ever since I bought a heaping pack at Trader Joe’s. At least now I have a stopping point when eating them! HAAHAAHA!

The Quaker rice cakes are OK. The chocolate used is tasty.
The 2 boxes on the right are oreo granola bars & rainbow goldfish packs.
Yet to try either but I’ll let you know.
The oreo one could suck real bad! HAHA!

I really didn’t like either one of these.
Fiber One’s peach yogurt and JELL-O Pudding’s Dolce de Lecha.
Both were WAY too sweet.

I’ve also been taking a lot of long hot baths, many times SWEAT BATHS! I can typically make it to 20 minutes easily now. At first 15 minutes was my max, now it’s 20, but this past week I’ve gotten to 30 minutes worth of bathing time twice!

人間洗濯 sweat bath. Grapefruit scent! Milky white water.
Most of these powders (or germanium [ゲルマニウム] bath salts) are milky white~ kinda boring visually!

美肌一族 sweat bath was really dark Grey! I was a bit surprised. Quite an unattractive color really

:doubleheartglitter:
And for anyone who might be interested, yes, my diet’s going great! I only really have 1 more pound to go
Not to mention how much better I feel just every day. So many fatty, sugary foods out of my system! Feels great. Not to mention how I feel about my physical appearance. I’m beginning to look like I did when I was 21~~~ that makes me soooooooooo happy. Going from buying a size large to a small. I mean, I thought I’d never get to buy “smalls” again. God…

Why did I eat all that damn fast food in college!? Why!? To shrug off a 20 lbs gain as “growing up” was such a pathetic excuse to be lazy.

Sigh~ I digress once again.

EDAMAME!

Picked my first harvest of edamame today! SO DELICIOUS!! I love growing edible things. It’s so fulfilling
:sketchheart:

I’ll leave you with Snoopy~~ He’ll take us into a productive Monday!

LATER!

Wow congratulations on your diet! Woooo, one more pound to go. I’m so amused by how you have so much will power to stick to your diet & exercise. I’ve been trying to lose some arm fat and it’s just SO HARD. I’ve been losing fat on other parts of my body though but just not my arm. D:!

And that snoopy balloon is so cute!

jenny said
July 20, 2009 @ 8:04 am

Ugh, that was a real motivator for me too! I would have these big fat puffs stick out the sides of my arms and I became so self-conscience of wearing sleeveless! Hope yours thin up soon. I know you must be working hard!

Honeydew said
July 20, 2009 @ 1:19 pm

Hahaha, me too! I’m always so self-concious about wearing sleeveless because of all those extra fat hanging from my arms. The problem is I actually have a really small waist (23.5) and hips (31) but somehow my arms always appear way bigger than the rest of my body. I also have a lot of back fat from I guess my bust? I feel like I’m not really wearing the right bra most of the time so there’s always this big chunk of meat hanging from the side of my bust. =X I just want to lose some that arm fat so that my body can look more porportional!

Have you tried free weights?? I bought some little dumbbells for super cheap. A 3lbs & a 5lbs. Abut $5 a piece and just google upper arm toning. OH, there are some specific exercises for arms too. I’ll try to find the ones I look at & scan them in! I think it’s summer-time appropriate with the heat & tank tops everywhere!

top right:
http://cutie.sushi-cat.net/scans/popteendiet_summer09_21.jpg
these:
http://sushi-cat.net/pics/exercises9.jpg

Very simple 1~2 exercises. Just follow the pics!

My arms have slimmed down some, though I do still have a slight poof, It’s better than it was. I gain weight in the same place too. My waist was always tiny but my bust & thighs got big.

Have you ever measured for a bra? You can google how to measure for both around & cup size. It sounds like either the circumference needs bumped up 2 inches (ie. a 34 to a 36) or your might be a bigger cup than you realize.

Oh these too!!
You can use water bottles in the top right one. Just slightly lift them behind your back in little pulses. You’ll feel the target area after a few repetitions!

I’ve tried lifting weights with dumbbells before but it doesn’t seem to work for me. (I also have a 3lbs and 5lbs that I got from Wal-mart for $5 each, lol) I tried it for a month but it doesn’t seem to do much to my arms. =/

I’ve been doing pushups before I go bed and swinging a hula hoop over my arm. I find that the hula hoop is working though, it makes me sweat and my arms get so tired out.

No, I actually have never measured my cup size before so I’m not even sure if I am even wearing the right bra size. I know that a lot of bra places has service for that where they measure your cup size for you, but I’ve always been rather shy and uncomfortable to get measured~

Thanks for those links. I’ll try them out sometime! =)

do you find that the sweat baths help? I’ve been relly tempted to try, but I get so paranoid about fainting in the tub or something -_-;

thanks for the self-portrait tutorial!

I do find that the baths help. Some people will say it’s just water-weight you’re losing but I think it’s good for the skin as well. Not to mention those achey, after workout muscles! I’m kinda into the whole detox-like trendy stuff so sweating it out feels therapeutic to me! It also increase heartbeat which can help in burning a few extra calories. Besides, sweat baths, saunas, hot springs have been around for… centuries! Must be doing something, right!? But if you feel dizzy don’t push it, it’s not worth passing out.

Yay, good job with the diet! Losing 20lbs so quickly is not easy, so kudos to you. The edamame looks delicious. Can you taste the difference between the ones you’ve grown and store-bought ones?

Too bad about the 360. Make sure you keep track of the serial number of the console you send in and check it when it comes back. If it’s different, then they just gave you a new box, which is good because the new CPU doesn’t overheat as often, I read. I already sent mine in once and it’s been working fine since it got back *crosses fingers* so I hope they actually did fix what was wrong with it.

jenny said
July 20, 2009 @ 8:11 am

They taste MUCH better than the frozen ones (which are the only ones i can find with the exception of Trader Joe’s ready to eat.) However they’re so much smaller, haahaa. Then again it’s the first harvest. let’s see how the second round goes!

I think Mike marked down the serial number so we’ll see. He got that video error =Y

I’m 5′1″ and have always been tiny (my whole family is very petite. my Mom only weighs 105) and in high school I weighed about 95lbs. In college I was 100 until I moved out of the dorms & into an apartment where I began eating fast food every day! (lol, no seriously, like 3 times a day!) Thus I shot up 3 pant sizes and went from being a B to a C cup. Getting up to 120lbs. And I’ve just never lost that. Last summer I did lose 5lbs of it though by switching what I ate at the office. So I really only lost 15lbs this summer because once the 120 came down to 115 last year it stayed off. I eat pretty healthy already, it’s just the fact I never WORKED OFF the period of my life where I DIDN’T eat healthy. Now I’m 101.

Yea, I mostly buy mediums still but in fitted tops I’d have to get large b/c the weight gain pushed me into an upper C cup bust size & fitted stuff just wouldn’t fit X(. My waist has always remained tiny. I gained in my thighs & bust =T

I find that 100 calorie packs don’t work for me and my family because we just tend to eat more of them! I do try to pre-package my own goods into little Ziploc bags to control my portions, but I end up pouring a little extra.

ah reading about your diet updates gives me more motivation for my diet ~ ! hahah im currently trying to lose 10kg (maybe too much for my first diet hahah) and i really havent made much progress TT__TT but hearing that your diet is going well really makes me feel that maybe i can do it too ~

about sweat baths, i had previously thought that it was only possible in japanese ofuro tubs, but i guess regular bathtubs work fine too ? im really interested in taking sweat baths too but i have no idea how it works o_o; does that sound silly ? ^ ^; hahah like what temperature does the water have to be at and does the bathroom have to be sealed shut so no heat escapes, etc ? o_o hahah i used to take baths, but the water would always get cold really quickly ~ and how do the bath salts work ?

sorry about the questions lol its okay if you dont answer them, im just ranting hahah

and hurray for your edamame ~ ! x3 i love edamame and ive always wondered how fresh ones would taste ~

jenny said
July 20, 2009 @ 8:30 am

This is my first ever real diet too! I lost 6kg (I lost 2kg of my extra weight last summer by eating more fresh fruits.) Before this I’d only make a tiny change in my eating habits so I wouldn’t consider that “dieting.” But now I use livestrong.com to track my calories so I can stay on course till I reach my goal!

The “secret” to sweat baths is the germanium used to create the salts. It activates (or irritates, same difference LOL) the skin and makes you heat up much more quickly. Raising your body temperature & increasing heart rate. So you lose water weight and “detox” (if you will.)

On the back of packages it tells you what the water temperature should be & how much water to use in the tub. It works in any tub with hot, hot water. But not so hot that it burns you (haahaa be careful!!) It’s still not as hot as actual hot springs.

Suzu said
July 21, 2009 @ 2:07 am

ah i checked out livestrong.com and it seemed so useful so i started an account ~ ! i wonder if i’d really be able to lose weight if i followed the calorie guidelines ? hahah and i love that little water counter that keeps track of how much water im drinking hahah i wonder if tea counts as water too though ? ^ ^

and thanks for the info about the sweat bath salts ~ ! :O ive always been curious hahah but now im curious what the irritation from the germanium feels like ~ hahah it must be really irritating if its that hard to stay in the tub for too long ! o_o

anyways, thanks for replying ~ ! it must be so tough to reply to all the comments you receive >__

jenny said
July 21, 2009 @ 8:17 am

Oh cool! add me as a friend if you like! I’m happiijenny
No, tea & water aren’t the same. Since tea contains other elements than pure water, it isn’t absorbed by your body in the same manner.

I think the most irritating thing in the sweat bath is tolerating the heat for more than 20 minutes time!

Yay sounds like you’ve been pretty busy Jenny~! Mmmm, I wish we had as many low-cal foods here in Australia as you do over there. I end up having lots of nori snacks though, which I love :3
I might sound ignorant/dumb, but do the sweat baths help with weight loss?

jenny said
July 20, 2009 @ 8:35 am

I find they do. Whether it’s just water weight is arguable but it relaxes my sore muscles and freshens my skin. The other day I got in for 30 minutes & when I got out I was 3lbs lighter. [I weighed myself before & after.] Of course this was probably water weight but some argue that the increased heart rate you get from the bath does help burn some calories.

Either way, I find them extremely therapeutic~ There are worse fads in weight loss (like diet pills) so I wouldn’t knock the sweat bath. It at least gets you clean & your skin super refreshed!

Things didn’t get easy until I started using livestrong.com. Like I told Cindi below. I’m an organizing freak so having their tracking tools & automatic calculations made it really easy for me. It’s free too You just put in your height & weight & desired weight & how much you’d like to lose weekly. They can calculate your calories & BMI & more!

Jenni I’m so glad to hear ur successful diet story! I’m always on a diet all year round because the Japanese mag models make me so jealous! I have been taking hot baths recently from the inspiration I’ve read on your blog lol, but I can’t stay in there for more than 10 mins lol, its so hard and I always get bored just sitting there ._. I am trying to get to a hundred lbs “somehow”, I’m 107 right now and I think I’m in a plateau! I honestly dont know how to lose more of that weight without feeling like crap! I’m 5′4 btw

jenny said
July 20, 2009 @ 10:52 am

I would look into your BMI
http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/
Because at 107 & 5′4″ you’re being placed in the “underweight” measurement so it might be more than just plateauing. I’d suggest signing up for livestrong.com and using their helpful tools. It’s free (& if you’re out of US just put in a fake US address when signing up. It doesn’t matter, even I did b/c I don’t like giving away my info.) You might just need to tone now instead of fat loss? Toning can shape the body to look thinner too . That’s what I’ll be focusing more on next!

Cindi said
July 20, 2009 @ 12:14 pm

THanks for your fast reply Jenny! I checked my bmi and it is 19. But somehow I still can’t manage to look like the models in the magazines! Because honestly they don’t look like they have alot of muscle mass, just very waif-ish looking. I always wondered what they do to get that look, or maybe it’s environmental factors. It isn’t always easy to avoid HUMONGOUS portions living in the states>__

jenny said
July 20, 2009 @ 12:30 pm

I agree, especially when eating out! portion control is so hard when they slop enough for 3 people on a plate! Hum, maybe if you have a lot of muscle mass, yoga-like stretching would be good? Everybody’s body is different. I might weigh the same as some Popteen model but I can tell you my hips will ALWAYS be WAY wider along with my bust compared to their body structure~ Lena Fuji from Vivi is 5′3″ and 50kg (110lbs)~ it’s all about the clothing, the camera angles, and lighting~

As long as you can find a place YOUR happy with it’s all that matters.

Well I lost 5lbs of it last summer so only 15lbs loss this year!

Really there’s not much more to it than what I’ve already described. Just making better eating choices and exercising more. You can see everything I eat on my livestrong profile if it helps PLUS activities I log too!

http://www.livestrong.com/thedailyplate/diary/who/happiijenny/

I just make better choices now. Like instead of a regular beef hamburger with white bread I make a lean turkey burger with lite bread! It even lists the brand if you’re interested. I use livestrong to calculate my calorie limit in order to lose 2lbs a week. I’ll change that VERY soon to calculate the amount of calories I can eat to maintain my current weight. (Which I already peeked at and it’s so high I don’t know how I’ll eat that many, haahaa!)

Really my only “secret” is keeping track of what I eat. Honestly, it changes you to start making healthier choices & to order that coffee frappiccihno LIGHT instead of the original non-light version

jenny said
July 21, 2009 @ 8:24 am

It’s different for everybody but I gain weight at my thighs FIRST. And when I began to cut down on my body fat my thighs slimmed down with it. I do A LOT of leg toning exercises because they’re easy to do when watching TV or talking on the phone. I do them at least every other day & it seems to keep them in check.

Maybe toning would help? At 98lbs you don’t need to lose anymore weight or your BMI will be too low. =Y

wow~! congrats on your diet. was it mostly just eating less for you or actually a combo of exercise and eating??

It was a combo of eating healthier & exercising more. I don’t eat anything higher than 100 calories as an after dinner snack, I choose the “light” version of anything over the original as well. It’s more about counting calories. I also make an effort to either work out or take walks for exercise. It’s about keeping REAL track of what you’re eating & how much activity you’re doing.

Congrats on doing so well with your diet plan. I’m still in Geneva right now and I’ve been eating way less than I used to in the states. My tolerance for hunger has improved. It used to be that if I feel a little big hungry, I would eat something asap, whether it be a small snack or a chicken thigh… Now, I’m like, oh I can wait till lunch time.

Food is so pricy here, but I am a lot healthier since the portions are just right (small) and so I don’t overeat but am still full. Also, I don’t waste my money buying sugary snacks. Plus, the amount of walking that I do in this city is a major plus.

The food is more about quality rather than quantity. This is definitely something I want to remind myself when I get back to California. Seriously, no more junk fooddddd! Or just very very little..

Ahh, where would I be without the art of mobile phone photos? Great (and funny) little tutorial in that magazine there! I love “the way to pose with items” picture ! Hilarious!

I wish I could eat healthier - but I always get lazy when I go out - and when I’m at work - I snack continuously! I’ve gained 5kgs (about 12lbs) since I started working my permanent (Old Person’s) job! ULTIMATE FAIL PARTY. And I’m working to drop it off - but it’s a hard slog. I’ve ahd to buy 2 more pairs of jeans and I split my favorite pair (REALLY ULTIMATE FAIL PARTY)

Anyhow, got to practice portion control as well! Maybe that will help me winter-time-gorging!

I was just wondering… how exactly do sweat bathes work? Does it make the water extremely hot, or does it produce steam? I wanted to try sweat baths when I moved into my new apartment in a few weeks (in Japan
