Philadelphia! 2 days 1 night~

Sunday, October 11th, 2009 | 38 Comments

For those of you not bombarded by my twitter updates, I went to Philadelphia for a weekend getaway! *_* It was a lot of fun. Of course it wasn’t forecast’d to rain, but it did ANYWAY all morning.

We mainly went for this…

A small video game expo

But we also went for…
Sightseeing!

Independence Hall courtyard and the Liberty Bell

A replica of the larger statue

Food!

A big eatery (similar to a Dutch Market) within an old train depot

Got an Apple Caramel Crepe at one vendor

At another vendor we got some Philly Cheesesteaks!

left: Pumpkin Gelato! It was so sweet but also really good. Had bits of pumpkin flesh in it. It tasted more like fresh pumpkin rather than pumpkin puree which was nice!

right: This is a sugar waffle. It has big chunks of rock sugar in its dough. It’s stuffed with strawberries & bananas. VERY good. Especial the darkened edges. That slight burned, caramelized taste of the dough was so delicious.

Pizza! Mike’s favorite food~ This one was pretty good. The pizzeria was cute, spacious, and inviting unlike some of the other smaller grab & go pizzerias. The sauce was a bit sweet too which I haven’t had in a while. Nice change of pace

I really enjoyed the hotel we stayed at too called the Alexander Inn. It was so kitsch and the staff was super helpful & nice. I liked the area it was in too~ Felt safe walking there late and lots of cute cafes and bars (and gay bars if you fancy that as well ) Would definitely stay there again! It was relaxing. We actually spent a little time just in our room which is odd for us! But that’s how enjoyable it was.

The lobby area including breakfast room. Lovely complimentary breakfast. Really the best I’ve ever had at any hotel

Our room
I really loved the bay windows. We had them open the entire time~~

Room’s View!
I was in awe of the view, especially at dusk!

LOL at the changing between digital camera & blackberry phone camera. Oh well, I used whichever I was holding at the time!

Now I’m home with lots of laundry and unpacking to do. Also tore my thumbnail badly So I’ll need to put on a fake one until it grows out . My friend had really wanted me to go out to a bunch of 5 star-like restaurants while there but I ended up wanting to eat more, smaller quick meals so I could snack on sugary sweets in between! So delicious.

I’ll leave you with this. Probably my favorite picture :haha:
It was pretty chilly the whole time there~

AS I WAS SAYING. It looks like a lovely trip! I was wondering what was up with the Liberty Bell tweet, now it makes sense. The hotel looks so cute & I’m the same when it comes to sweets, lol.

It was the VGXPO and it was incredibly pathetic this year. Economy hit hard I think ;_;.

Awww! How adorable! It looks like great fun over there! I wish the city-areas in Australia were closer together - but they’re too bloody far apart to hop around to for fun! Well, in actuality, they’re not too expensive to fly to, but I’ve got no one to drag along with me!

Yummy-nummy food too! Yuaaah!

I’m in the mood for food now!
The hotel definitely looks cute and zakka! A very European feel to me.
I’ve never seen what a Philly cheesesteak looked like, looks so mouthwatering in my eyes lol.
So I’m off to cook me some food!

We have Paul Revere’s silver Free Mason medalions at the museum I work for - I like telling my students “DO YOU GUYS REMEMBER NATIONAL TREASURE?!”

haha, anyway, Philly makes me think of old timey Revolutionary stuff kind of like Boston

SWEET. (no pun intended of course!)

Philly is…a charming city if you’re in the right parts. Unfortunately so many of those parts are right up against the not-so-charming ones ;;== Anyway, you guys picked out “olde city”! OMG there’s TONS of mini museums if you can find them there (disguised as antique buildings of course!). There’s also this suuuuuuuper antique row of colonial homes preserved so there’s cobblestone and everythinggg. The whole alley/mini-street seems so small (since stature was smaller in those times). was I forgot what it was called though ;;==

AHH! Did you guys manage to take a walk over to South Street? That’s where the “hip” shops are…along with some reallllly weird ones. The high-end shops are around Pine/Walnut/Samson/Chesnut Streets & the high-end rowhomes in Rittenhouse Square (where the 6th Sense was shot methinks).

Where was the expo? Philly Convention Center? That’s right on the edge of Chinatown if so. As much as I adore CENTER CITY (where most of the fun stuff is), I’ll always hate that damn traffic circle around City Hall. So tricky!!

The Art Museum area is where my parents own their beer warehouse!! LOTS of microbrewwwwws! Along with hard-to-finds as well…along with my parents ;;^^ Eating-wise, I still haven’t gone to Reading Terminal Market…DOWAAAAAAANT!

Looks like you had fuuuuun! FOOD IS FANTASTICCCCCC! (I didn’t know the Phila Morimoto was the original…cool!)!!! THe “best” cheesesteaks are actually outside of the city methinks…forget where. It’s called Jimmy’s or something. Have to ask bro again. LOVEEEEEELY new layout as well!

I can’t wait to go back ;_;

Hahaha we hit up ALL those areas! *nod*nod* Yea it was at the convention center. Went to Chinatown, South street, down pine, walnut, AND samson and so on. Our hotel was on 12th I think? We were able to park our car at the hotel for the 2 days so we didn’t have to deal with the traffic much. We walked for nearly 12 hours all over. Yea some guy told us the “best” cheesesteaks were on South but we were hungry before getting there. The only thing I wish I had gotten to do was eat at the German Brauhaus but I was full & so was the restaurant, hahahaa
