CUTiE + Popteen = Shibuhara Lovers
Wednesday October 28, 2009

If you refresh you’ll see I added a fun, and dark, Halloween themed background. HAPPY HALLOWEEN, ね!
I just felt like blogging some randomness. The other day I downloaded some CUTiE (the bookstore I go to doesn’t sell it anymore or else someone beats me to it :ng: ) and I was a bit surprised how transformed it had been by the Shibuhara style [渋原系.] I know a few months ago they featured Tsubasa and they have again in this November issue (maybe more but I haven’t been keeping up with CUTiE.) I remember in the last issue I bought (feb) they had started adding in 1 or 2 key “Gal” style items into the coordinates but not much. But I guess Pop Sister & the whole Shibuhara-kei really struck a chord.
Can’t be too surprised though, they put the “hara” in “Shibuhara.” In other words I need to get my hands on some CUTiE perhaps!? To go along with my Popteen. The differences between CUTiE & Popteen can be sometimes subtle. Mostly in the hair, make and shoes. For example. Below are both images from the November issues of the 2 magazines.

WANT that salopette by the way~ :getit:
Popteen is on the left & CUTiE on the right. It’s kind of interesting to see these individual magazines adopting each others’ culture (if you will.) Or at least brands. Haahaa, Titty&Co. & Valentine’s High in CUTiE?? I’m a bit surprised :!: . Of course Pop Sister is really the combination of both these magazines (and others mixed in.)
I know some girls really don’t like Shibuhara style. It’s either lacking in high maintenance girlishness or it’s too commercial casual for true harajuku style. And that’s OK. I can see that. I don’t feel that way though, but only because I’ve always admired both styles but never really found myself falling into one category more than the other. For me, Shibuhara best describes what I already was wearing and what I want to wear more of! :ureshii:
Here’s a translation of the infamous Shibuhara page from Pop Sister if anyone’s curious about the style.
Enough rambling! How about some more CUTiE??!! :twinklepink:

Various Eyeliners
Monday October 26, 2009
I was going through my makeup this weekend and thought it would be fun to share some quick comments on the different liners I currently have. :lovelymake: I’m in no way some sort of expert, but I do have liners ranging from black pencil to liquid glitter! Typically I use black or dark shadows and an eyeliner brush for the eyeliner effect. It’s much easier than liners, BUT I prefer the staying power and dramatic look of liners too. Especially lately. I should also add that I use Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow primer every time when wearing eye make including with all these liners.

Purchased on Yesstyle.com
:rose2: Anna Sui Black pencil liner. By far my favorite pencil liner I’ve used, ever. Goes on fairly easy using the dash method and stays put. Very low on the smudging too, going a full work day (8 hours) before noticing some, if any, smudging or transferring.
(site) Purchased at local Japanese market
:rose2: Japanese brand Makemania in dense black. Glides on easily and evenly so saves on time. Very dense black color (as stated on the box!) However it smudges easily. In no way waterproof or smudge proof. I tend to use this one when going out after work because I can add it quickly to my already done day-make and only need it to look good for a few hours.
Purchased at Amuse accessory store
:rose2: NYX Purple colored pencil liner. Good for a bargain purchase! Goes on a little harsh, it’s definitely not a gliding pencil but the color really pops. I’ve only ever purchased colored liners in this brand since with color you don’t have to be so precised like black. No smudging either. However you’ll definitely need eye make remover to get this off.
Purchased at Sephora
:rose2: Sephora’s flashy waterproof liner in Flashy Pink. This is one of those things I keep meaning to buy more of. Glides on easily in 1 line. Color is soft and subtle but still noticeably metallic. Nice combination for wearing to the office without looking like a street punk. Only complaint is that there is some smudging/transferring if used as a bottom liner. But very affordable. I think a good liner for beginners.
purchased on Yesstyle.com
:rose2: LA Splash liquid liner in black. At $10 let me say I didn’t have high expectations for this liner. Very messy liquid liner. I’m fairly skilled at liquid but even I couldn’t get this brush under control. Also takes much too long to dry. I wouldn’t recommend this brand, cheap is good but sometimes it’s worth spending a little more.
Purchased on Yesstyle.com
:rose2: Blinc liquid eyeliner in black. What can I say, this stuff is crazy! IN A GOOD WAY! It does everything it says. It goes on pretty easily. Though you’ll need at least 2 coats. Then it stays on. No smudging, no nothing, until you gently wash (or peel) it away with warm water. I’ve literally worn this stuff for 2 days due to passing out and it still looked freshly applied. If you’re a late night party girl I recommend this stuff. You can even rub your eyes again and again and it doesn’t budge. Only drawback is that due to needing multiple coats it’s not the best liquid if you want subtle, thin lines of black liner. This one is definitely for dramatic liner looks. Love it~
Purchased last holiday season at Victoria’s Secret
:rose2: Victoria’s Secret Very Sexy Holiday glitter liquid liner. This liquid liner was a surprise because, not only was it a glitter liner, but also a black liquid liner! I fell in love with it. Definitely great for the holiday season but I’ve conserved it. Though it’s nearly out. Goes on smooth, and because of the black liner the glitter is subtle, so work appropriate. Glitter and liner stay put, no smudging or glitter-fall.
Purchased at Sephora
:rose2: Urban Decay glitter liquid liner in Metalhead (dark purple.) This was one of the original colors, they have pretty pink and sky blue ones out now too. A good liquid glitter liner. Can be used as liner or rub all over lid. It’s in a clear liquid, so only the glitter shows. Glitter stays put! Only downside is the drying time feels a little long. A few years ago this was the choice glitter liner of Ageha. The glitter is quite sparkly :star:
:rose2: Sephoa glitter liner in Opal. Really pretty iridescent liquid glitter liner. A good, cheaper alternative to Urban Decay’s (and others.) Goes on easily and dries a bit faster than Urban Decay’s. Glitter does a decent job at staying put. Goes on thicker than other glitter liners which can be good or bad depending on the look you want. Though not great for all over lid glitter because it feels a bit tacky when used that way.
