Snow Day and DIY Ripped Jeans

Monday December 07, 2009

So Saturday was AWESOME! Nearly 4″ of snow :okicon:  :ohwhoa: :sqsnowman: :twinklepink:

I spent much of the morning sitting by the window watching the snow and trying out that distressed jeans tutorial! :good: I used the oldest and cheapest pair of jeans. Just some semi-stretchy (aka not 100% cotton) jeans I got over 6 years ago at a Kohl’s (I think.) Because the fabric was that sort of stretch jean material it wasn’t the best for a super threaded, frayed look, BUT I think it came out pretty cool for the open cut look like Wei Son’s! Just took it a little further than her pair. :kissyheart:

I think matching them with a pair of pink leopard tights would be nice! :good: I’ve seen some at F21 I might get, though the regular leopard style had a nice subtle look. I liked the jeans paired with floral tights I got at F21.

new coat by the way!

New coat from Yesstyle! I really liked how it was a subtle version of a baseball/varsity jacket but made from just cotton WITH BUTTONS instead of a zipper! The buttons are so unexpected, I loved it. You can find it here from CLICK.

After being snowed in all day we decided to walk downtown for dinner. It was surprisingly busy :whoafreak: I got their take on a Shepard’s Pie and then we ordered the Trio Sundae dessert. Why we ate ice cream to just leave and walk home in the snow I’LL NEVER KNOW. fail idea~ But at least it tasted great and Mike actually ate a dessert with me for once, hahahaa :piggy:

French Vanilla, Raspberry, and of course chocolate. *_*

Then we spent the night decorating the house including getting the tree up and lit! :sqxmastree:

Finally made it out to Georgetown Sunday. It was a GORGEOUS sunny day too! :orooro: I decided to wear my “new” jeans :haha: with my polka dot leggings because it was pretty freakin’ cold out still. Icy too, but the roads were clear and seeing the snow everywhere was lovely :ureshii:

BUT IT’S FREEZING OUT!:smallcry:
SO COAT AND HAT A MUST!

:cake:
My main objective was to pick up a Bûche de Noël or yule log cake. :doubleheartbeat:
Dean and Deluca’s had beautiful ones last year. However, this year, they didn’t have any full sized versions but instead these little mini ones! PERFECT!! Saves money and Mike & I could each get our own, haahaa. I also picked up a sort of “gourmet s’more” too. It was incredibly rich and incredibly delicious! The cakes too of course!

Got these rose flavored “french mints” at Dean & Deluca’s too! O-M-G! I WILL BUY THESE FOREVER!!!! If you’re a fan of rose-flavored things (tea, cookies, gum, candies) then I highly recommend these. I’m not even a big mint person but I loved these :rose2: :twinklepink:

I also got a $20.00 off gift card for Sephora that I wanted to use. I decided to get some NARS blush in “Angelika” after seeing it in Popteen, Pinky, Vivi and such used in “Dolly” looks. :crownkisses:

That’s it for now. I have so little time lately. At least my Christmas shopping officially ended TODAY! YAAAY! I’m 100% done :)!! I feel like I just need 1 extra day to catch up on everything, but every day, since Thanksgiving holidays really, has been easily filled and passes so quickly :?: It’s a bit…. dizzying! Ha! :eep:

Wow! Great post! I love all of your coordinates, the distressed jeans look really good with the patterned tights! Looks like you just stepped right out of Popteen magazine. Yummy looking food, cute clothes, and a happy snowman, what more could you ask for! Awesome.

This kinda snotty, shallow model who appears in Popteen and PopSister from time to time. She has a Popteen contract so she has a blog on their official site. Obviously, I’m not the biggest fan of hers but I always check her blog because her coordinates are often pretty awesome.

  3. Sara Mari says:

Wow you got so much snow already! We don’t have any here in MN, well a dusting but nothing to talk about. Tomorrow is supposed to be a blizzard though haha.

Wow, those jeans you distressed came out really cool, great work! I love them with the leopard tights, but the last outfit with the Mickey Shirt and polka dot tights is super cute! Thats a great coordination! ^3^

Those ice creams look really yummy. I’ve never bought a yule log cake, but the ones you bought tempt me to start a tradition hehe! The mushrooms on them are cute ^^

    • jenny says:

Oh wow! Blizzard!? Did it happen!? Haahaa. I couldn’t imagine so much snow. DC gets snow, just enough to drive people crazy but not enough that anyone’s learned to adapt to it! Haahaa.

  4. Shirley says:

It snowed here in Boston on Saturday too :]
Nice job on the jeans; I’ll have to try it myself one of these days.
The blush is prettty too ^-^

  5. Jennifer says:

Nice snow man! :D I never seen snow before in my life, it looks so soft~

Good job on your jeans! I love your outfit with your new yesstyle coat and the one with the mickey shirt. :)

I would always see yule log cakes but I never ate one before. I love the shroom on it though.. xD

I also got a gift card from Sephora too! Only for $15 though~ I love the pink blush! Did it match the blush color that you were asking about on twitter?

    I’m almost done with Christmas shopping too! It feels great being done with everything and not fighting the packs of people at the mall/stores. -_-;

    • jenny says:

Ah yea, Mike got the $15 VIB one too and was mad mine was $20! LOL it’s just sorta sobering to get $20… makes me think I must spend waaaay too much money there!!

  6. Umi says:

    Snow! :D
Sometimes I wish it snowed here~
    …but then it wouldn’t quite be Hawaii….

    • jenny says:

You live in Hawaii!? JEALOUS. Yea… let the mainland have snow since you’re keeping all the tropical awesomeness from us! Haahaa!!

  7. Vivien says:

Wow! :) Nice outfits! The coat you bought from yeststyle looks very comfortable ^^ and cute.

  8. Lissy says:

Those cakes look so yummy! O_O

    Your jeans turned out great~~!

  9. rene says:

    Sooo envious.
If only my country have 4 seasons. I think I grumbled that to you before. Haha.
    Anyways!
I love your hair. How do you curl them?
I recently cut my hair to inverted bob and I wish to do some curls to them.
Do you have any scans of those?
All my nonno only have steps for LONG hair. =(

Yes! The blush is everywhere in the mags.

    • jenny says:

I understand. Where I grew up in southern US there’s really just summer & colder summer. Haahaa

I’ll look for some bob curl scans. I’ve seen a couple lately actually. In Vivi, Popteen, and Ranzuki I think. Pinky too? I dunno, I’ll look when I get home today :)

      • rene says:

        jENNYY!
        You are the sweetesttttt!!
I don’t buy Pinky and Ranzuki and Popteen. Haha.
The loud cover just kinda scare me away. Haha.

And my curler has no clamp!
I think I made a wrong purchase! I should have done my research…
It is impossible to use them. SOB.

  10. mikey kun says:

those s’mores look good i think i’ll go make some for myself right now

  11. Ingrid says:

Ahhh I love NARS blush. I just have it in standard “Orgasm” but Angelika looks lovely.

  12. xiaobibu says:

aww.. your ripped jeans so nais~~ i tried DIY my jeans before…also using oldest and cheapest jeans..hhaha…btw I love all your outfits :D

hope when i grow older i’ll live a life like urs. i mean ur closet, who doesn’t want that closet?! its like a MOVIE with all the pretty colors :)
btw was ur jeans hard to do? i saw the thing u posted up with how to do it, it looks easy but i can’t read japanese so i’m too scared to try it haha.

  14. mel says:

wow ur place is snowing?? O.O ooo i love the cake, it’s so yummyyy :D

  15. Tori says:

    Such a cute snowman! ;)
& your jeans came out fantastic! Was it pretty easy to do? I really like them with the tights underneath too~ such a great idea!
& all of that food is making me hungryyy, lol~

    • jenny says:

Actually it didn’t take too, too long. But I would say definitely a weekend day thing to do while watching TV or listening to music. All I needed was jeans, scissors, and sand paper :DD

  16. Miah says:

your outfits are killing me! XD i waaaant!~
k so tights under the distressed jeans- very nice! and they turned out well!!
    i gotta try that out!

and i loved the jacket! i was staring at it before i read the blog o_O lol!~ yes! it IS hard to find a varsity jacket with buttons!

and i saw your top in old navy yesterday! ;P (the black and white striped one)
    :D

we got our first snowfall here in Toronto (Canada) yesterday too!~ boo snow :’(

  17. miamy says:

  18. Tutti Patuti says:

i love everything about ur post today.. u have great style
    where do u shop? !!!!!!

i love ur shoes .. especially the blue one!

    • jenny says:

Hum… Let’s see, in the clothes I’m wearing in this entry stuff came from:

      Old Navy (stripe shirt)
YesStyle.com (mokomoko coat, green coat, mouton boots)
Bloomingdale’s (Disney Couture shirt, blue shoes)
      Forever 21 (floral tights)
      H&M (army coat)
Kohl’s (leopard tights & the old jeans I distressed, lol)
      Gilfy (black hat)
      Target (stripe turtleneck)
      American Apparel (polka dot leggings)

      :D

  19. I love snow, but only when there’s a lot of it! I like your outfits too, I hate it when people dress all dark and boring:p

  20. Veronica says:

    Hooray! Outfit snaps!

Love the floral tights with the jeans, subtle cute :) Ooh and your Rinka-style curls!

Those cake mushrooms make me want to DIE of happiness *wee*

    • jenny says:

AWWW, best hair compliment everrr, LOL! Used my new 19mm curler that night.
I know, the mushrooms & decor are the best part of yule logs!

  21. Megan says:

I love how your jeans turned out! Super cute w/ letting the leggings show through :)

Bûche de Noël is sooo delicious. The mini ones are so cute! I miss when we would make it in my French classes in HS! I might try making it this year if I can find a recipe :D

  22. Syd Syd says:

I’ve never heard of rose flavored gum, cookies or mints! I’ve heard of tea, though.
hmmm, I really wonder what it tastes like! *n__n

  23. ashica says:

Those cakes look sooooo yummy + cute! (haha I love the mushrooms!!!)

I’m a huge fan of Nars’ blushes + bronzers, such great glittery-ness + I actually enjoy how all the glitter sticks to the outside of the black compacts (this tends to be on the minus list of most Nars-users, but it’s a plus for me).

Did you end up finding/looking for a (blush) color to match the one you twit-piced a while back?

    • jenny says:

I was noticing that the glitter was beginning to “appear” on the case! It is a bit entertaining!! Yea, I was able to find a handful of tutorials that included that blush look and most of them recommended the NARS in this shade :D. Sadly my BB camera in a poorly lit bathroom can’t do the blush justice.

  24. Leslie says:

I’d say your DIY ripped jeans was a success, unless you were going for a more threaded look, but they did turn out looking nice! :) I love the clothing items you paired with it as well ~ very cute.

The food + cakes look delicious nomnomnom! I also like your lit and decorated tree!

  25. jayjayne says:

Awesome outfits and mod on your jeans there! My mum haaates cut jeans with a passion, so I don’t ave the nerve to set aside a pair for mutilation – she even gets nervy at my frayed Zara jeans, which, BTW are hole-free!

But they look great with your different leggings! Definitely go for the leopard print combination! I think the look would also go great with a pair of black denims! Rocking!

Snoooowww-man! I’ve never seen snow in my life – but then again, I’m from Malaysia and currently reside in tropical Queensland, so never seeing snow is kinda expected!

DOOPDOOP! Great blush! Unfo, my complexion is too dark for a pale pink blush – I have a tendency to go for peachier colours to go with my tan – like the Bihada Ichizoku in Beige!

  26. Linda says:

ahhh! i always love your outfits!
and that cake looks so cute and delicious with the little mushroom :3
sometimes i wish it snowed in socal.

  27. Honeydew says:

Those distressed jeans turned out to look REALLY good, I must say, good work! You inspire me to actually make one with one of my old jeans now, lol. But firstly I still need to look for more colourful tights!

I’ve been wanting to get a blush too, and I heard NARS is pretty good. Thanks for showing us this new blushh that you got! I will definitely go check it out at Sephora. =)

    • jenny says:

Thanks so much! Yea, I think I’m a total NARS convert. It really is a high pigment that lasts throughout the day. Lives up to the cost plus they have one of the largest color selections :O

  28. Franni says:

Wahh, I really liked how your distressed jeans turned out.
OMGGG, LOG CAKES. i haven’t had one of those in years!
aren’t they so adorable? with the little props on top. i’m
definitely gonna pester my relatives to buy one when i go
    to california for winter break.

  29. Elle says:

Omg…you are the cutest. You make those jeans look awesome. I’ve always wanted to distress my own jeans but instead caved in and just bought them. I got the $20 gc from sephora too. What to get what to get? I shop there wayyyy to much. Oh well! ;)

    • jenny says:

      Haahaa, thanks! *blushes immensely*
I nearly caved too, but I’m lucky I never found any that were “perfect” enough before I decided to try it myself!

  30. Bianca says:

OMG! OMN NOM NOM! Those yule cakes, I’ve never had one but you make a hard argument, I must have one now! Perhaps they sell them at Walts….Ps. neat jeans I will probably try to make them over the break, we’ll seeee…

cute snowman did you bring him to life? Did he grant your christmas wishes? :D

btw, how sensitive is your skin? I am tempted to get NARS because I here great things, but I’m a natural makeup girl and I’m scared I’ll break out!

    • jenny says:

My skin is pretty sensitive. It’ll break out on over 1/2 of new products I try. So far the blush hasn’t caused any breaking out (I never get red or rashes from my sensitive skin, only break outs.) It looks like 1/2 of NARS blushes have glitter specs in them, so just keep that in mind.

  31. Vira says:

Yay! Those jeans look great. ^_^ I keep thinking they’d look good with some big leg warmers over the bottom.

I’m sorry Mr. Snowman had to go away. :( You’ll probably make another soon though! ^_^

  32. Leanne says:

I love the jeans! They look great and they go really well with your new coat. It’s so cute! I prefer buttons over zippers, it makes clothes so much cuter. Ahh, I wish NARS was that cheap here. It’s something insane like $35+ in Australia. Grrrr!

  33. mars says:

The threaded jeans look great. I think I’m going to shred my old jeans as well now &^^

  34. アリサ says:

I love your jeans and I love the snow! :) Too bad it doesn’t snow in Hawaii though. :(

  35. Mandy says:

aw i love the polka dotted tight that you wear with jeans!!!!!!( and of course your destroyed jeans )
    so so cute
eheh the cake looks yummy!!!! makes me think of holiday already hohoho^^

  36. Fai says:

The ice-creams look so yummy. I love what you did with your “new” jeans. I will try that too with my really old pair of jeans.

It’s snowing in Toronto yesterday. It was raining/snowing. My shoes were all soaked with water. It was sooo gross. I have to get a new pair of waterproof shoes asap, but the waterproof ones are so hideous!!

  37. Cindy says:

Ah, I’m so jealous. I wish it snowed where I am.

  38. Lei says:

Snow envy! :( I wish it snowed in bay area. lol

  39. Kari says:

I loved your outfits like always! I have to try those torn jeans too! and the cake looks delicious!

I’m so envious of the snow! I wish here could snow too T~T , by the way nice Snowman ^ ^

  40. Zoraida says:

I’m not a big fan of that particular blush trend but it does look cute if you can pull it off (and you did)!

    The food looks amazing *-*

  41. Courtney says:

Love the food, love the snow! So jealous!! haha I admit I’ve never had a yule cake, but yours is just too cute with the mushrooms on top!♥
