No Wig, No Life

Thursday, February 18th, 2010 | 101 Comments

A few weeks ago I posted this video~~ It’s about how the use of “fashion wigs” has gone up 207% in 2009! They got many girls to remove their wigs in public. They also did a comparison in the amount of time it took to get one’s hair ready. As you can see below the full wig took 4 minutes while curling ones hair took 31 minutes!

watch video
*sorry, embedding was disabled*

Seriously!? Wigs are a freakin’ time-saver!? I never thought of it that way! And I started thinking, what if I really did buy a wig? For fun!? For cam whoring? For actually wearing??!!! For putting on 7am on Saturday morning when Mike wants to “do a Starbucks run” that morphs into us being out for hours on end at stores and cafes~~!! Because that happens A LOT. At night too. When I think we’re not going out and I remove all my make and my hair is crap we suddenly decide to do random date night and I end up going out looking like a soccer mom. To at least have perfect hair would be AMAZING~! :driftingheart:

Seriously the wig took a minute 20!! And the actual arranged took 29 minutes :F
I feel bad too because I think the wig kinda looks better

Many girls choose for the wig-parts instead. Like clip-in extensions or hair bun pieces. This girl is using hair bun piece, but I love how HUGE of a fan her friend must be of Wakatsuki Chinatsu! She even looks like her with the full nude make going on & decked out in WC! Hahahah, すごい~~~ so cute!

Under the “read more” there are a lot of photos (50+) so beware if you’re on your phone or something~~

Here are the girl’s that were on the news special in the video comparing wig/no wig shots!

Full bob wig! I was shocked at her hair length! Oh but the damage~ I could see how a wig would TOTALLY save this girl some serious time!

Half wig~

Clip-on extensions for super curls!

4 pieces including 2 half wigs!

She used 3 pieces to bulk up her bun!

This girl was so cute IMO~~!!

Also, Nana Suzuki bought a wig a few weeks ago! GAAAAAAAH~~!!
She got this one here. It’s been sold out ever since! They JUST got restocked! Obviously many girls ran off and bought the same one, LOL~

She got the wig on the left. I really wanted something curly and thick for myself though. So on days I miss my long hair I could cure it immediately! Ha! Though both these wigs you’re supposed to be able to style using low-heat and proper instructions blah blah blahhh

In my search for how many girls use wigs I came across this Ameblo Blog ★Let’s肺テンソン(゚ω)。↑↓↑↑↑ This girl has sooooooooo many fashion wigs!! It’s so cute & cool!

Oh, what’s that? YES… I bought a wig,
haaaaaaaaaaahahahaaa!
If you didn’t already realize from the sudden wig discussion I had on twitter with Jayjayne & Emm.

It’s the one above on the right obviously. It’s probably the silliest thing I’ve ever bought, but technically it fits in with my New Year’s Resolution so suck it! It’s synthetic but can be styled (that takes certain steps.) It got pretty good reviews too~!

I used lovely Rina’s Shopping Service to purchase it. She’s AMAZING! Please feel free to use her service for purchasing things off Japanese web sites!

Like I said, I wanted BIG and curly! It fits really well actually because it’s adjustable. I wanted something long so I could go shorter with my real hair without worries. Though I can EASILY see the benefit of going the opposite route since shorter wigs must be less cumbersome to put on. I dunno if I could wear it on a hot summer day either, LOL! But I really do like it! The color is darker than my natural color but it depends on the lighting too~ *_*

Here are a few photos

Blackberry photo

And yea, I’m feeling much better today! I think my sinuses were just massive draining last night/this morning! I’m not sneezing any more and snot isn’t draining 24/7 THANK GOD!

OK~ back to all things wig related~~!!

Tsubasa is a big user when it comes to fashion wigs She wears them quite often in shoots~ And not in a sneaky “let’s pretend it’s my hair hush-hush way” either. In PopSister alone she sported multiple wigs! Short, long, blond, black!

Popteen’s had some wig spreads too recently! For Navana Wigs. Not to mention a super adorable Kumicky wearing this long, brown wig below! She looked so cute in it I took a double take! I seriously think it suits her, so, so well!

*click above for full scans~* :ladeeda:

Jun with super short hair is cuuuuuuuute!

Here’s an ad from Popteen for full wigs~

Erika Kouda had a wig section in January’s Popteen~~

Wigs were also listed as Popteen’s #60 hit~~!!

Also in Popteen was this girl’s sorta mini profile. She wears a bright blonde wig for her daily make! It’s cute to see the contrast

FULL SCAN

I’ve kinda always wanted a wig. OK, OK, not always~ not realistically, until I started getting Ageha! Ageha is filled with Prisila ads! For obvious reasons seeing how the majority of their hair arranges are quite large! Though extensions are most commonly used they are often used with wig pieces. Here are a few examples from Ageha including a little “How-To” page they did!

FULL SCANS

I think this is a really good solution for those who have hair bi-polar-ness! Like me. I’ve mentioned before that I’ve had super short hair and LOVED IT. That’s the problem~ I love lots of different cuts!

Chinatsu loves obvious

There’s also a little “No Wig, No Life” portion on GRP. Currently there’s the February issue but I really liked the January look here

You can browse their past features at the bottom of the page :!:

I loved this entry The video was so cool! Specially the girl with 4 different wigs (+ fake fringe!) O_O
I used to wear really long extensions last year… every single day! I LOVED the way it made me look… but it got really annoying because I first started using them for fun… and it became a chore: I felt I couldn’t stop wearing them or else people would all ask about my hair… and then have the shock of their lives if seeing me wearing them back again the following day, lol.

Oh I’m glad you liked it! I felt a bit… I dunno, hesitant about this entry, LOL.

Yea I can see how that would happen. I sorta wanted to just wear the wig and post photos on my blog unexplained but that would probably have been confusing LOL. I wish things like fake hair were more acceptable “fashion” accessories, haahaa! Less questions, more options that way!

I’ve been thinking of getting clip-in extensions myself~ it’s funny to see how many girls go for the full-on wigs though!
Yours actually looks pretty cute though~ love how you paired it with your brown circle lenses

Yea I know clip-in extensions are way more natural looking. I tossed & turned on the decision to go full wig b/c the hardest part with styling my hair is the top & bangs! LOL so I went full

Wigs seems to be a pratic way to solve the problem “bad hair day” too \o/
But I still think extensions and wigs are kinda spooky ^^”
One day maybe I’ll try one of this out =]

It’s nice to know that there are others who have the same can-I-please-shave-my-head-but-I-want-long-hair syndrome I’ve had my hair short for several years, but I’ve been growning it out for the past two… just the other day I threatened to take a pair of scissors to my hair (I get so bored easily!)

Now I really want to go out and get a wig! Does it feel natural? I’m afraid mine would fly off my head or something, haha.

jenny said
February 18, 2010 @ 9:40 pm

Does it feel natural? Um, nuuuuuuuu. It doesn’t FEEL natural but it looks pretty natural surprisingly! Yea I’ve had super short pixie-style cut and growing it out was grueling!! Now I want short again but sometimes I miss my long locks too~

Thanks!

It actually looks more natural than some other wigs I tried on that were the same price. It’s not too lustrous ya know?

OMG thank you Jenny, now I have to get a wig -_-;;
I have seriously wanted one for so long and I told my mom about it, and she said, why not?? you’re young, you can pull it off! but when I asked my bf, he said it’s weird, but I guess he didn’t really care. how did Mike react to your wig?
you look sooo cute with it! how much was it? I wanted extensions but they are so pricey :(
awesome post ^-^ i am so crazy about wigs now lol

jenny said
February 18, 2010 @ 9:47 pm

Mike was a big reason I got it actually! He saw me looking over them, over & over, and said I should just get one even if it’s just for cam-whoring in LOL!

I wanted extensions too but I was worried they’d cause me headaches because my scalp is sensitive (like headbands cause me headaches.)

It was about $70 total including shipping & shopping fee

You look so cute with the lenses and the wig in the pictures.

I think it’s funny that you bring up wigs b/c I have been think about buying one for the longest time. I keep going back and forth about it, since I have such a hard time styling my own hair since it’s so straight. I had seen girls with Korean wigs on other sites or pictures, so that got me thinking on how easy it would be to get ready in the morning. I contemplated getting a short hair wig and a long curly one…but after looking at your post I think I’ve made up my mind.

jenny said
February 18, 2010 @ 9:51 pm

I was the same. Back & forth, yes & no. So I broke down and just did it. Even if I only wear it once in a while I decided I was OK with that

So whatcha getting, short or long!?

MiMi said
February 19, 2010 @ 4:25 pm

I think I’m going to get a long one with curls (or one I can curl) to start off. I really like the one you bought. I thinking about what color to choose too, so I stick with medium or dark brown or should I go with a different shade? I love dying my hair auburn or getting highlights, but it’s so damaging to my hair especially since I keep it long now. I was thinking about getting a dark auburn one.

Interesting trend! Your wig looks great, too, the darker color is nice. b My friend actually gave me a second hand pastel pink wig I’d been wanting for quiet some time but the maintenance is BS…the hair is tangled ridiculously and combing it will literally take hours so I haven’t worn it yet. But I wanted the freedom to try something new (and radical! for me, anyway, since I’ve never so much as dyed my hair!) whenever I feel like it. :3

i love that you put this post here. its great to see so many varieties of wigs out there. i bought myself a wig from priscilla wig back in 2008, i loved wearing it.. but it was so hot in hawaii that i couldnt wear it out ..i think i only wore it out once. it does make styling a lot easier though.. and im really loving your wig.. it looks great on you..i cant even tell it’s a wig at all

i didn’t know that nana suzuki was wearing a wig in some of her photos.. it does look like her real hair!

Hey, I have super slow internet so I can’t really download the magazines monthly. (2 gb threshhold - MONTHLY!!!) So I was wondering if you could post a tiny tut from a magazine or from your own experience on how to get the style similar to the pic you have of the girl with the yellow Holga. ( http://sushi-cat.net/pics/2_10_wig24.jpg ) Would really appreciate it !

btw, the wig on you looks SUPER adorable, it would make a great ponytail too. xxx

jenny said
February 19, 2010 @ 6:21 pm

Well if you’re hair is that length you could probably easily get the look with a large barrel curling iron (1.5 inch barrel) and just curl the tips under, towards the face! Or even just blow drying your hair with a jumbo sized round brush , brushing the hair under and towards the face as you blow dry.

Japanese wigs look much more natural than those we have in France, I’m really surprised about that actually ! It’s really interesting too, less time for getting prepared and a better result at the end ! I’m sure it’s the better way for perfect curls with superlong hair. .
I want to buy one, with long hair curled at the bottom and. . Red ! Like Wei Sun’s hair (Or Sun Lee, she’s a Popteen model, maybe you know her. It’s hard to know the right nickname, there are several, and I’m learning very very slowly Japanese. . *sob*). Actually I need to talk about it with my mother. . I’m still young so. . Boooooouh she won’t agree for sure. *cry*
Oh well, the one you chose really suits you, cute as usual !

I would love to buy some wigs, but my hair is getting so long now I’m worried it will deform the wig even if I use a wig cap. Hmm, and I can’t use half-wigs/hairpieces since my color is unusual. I want a wig too!! haha

jenny said
February 19, 2010 @ 6:17 pm

you know what, when jayne tweeted about that wig thing i was kind of , hmm it’s so unusual! but now that i think about it, why not! if i wear a wig, im going to go crazy and get something totally impossible for me to actually grow of, like platinum blonde shortie or LONG LONG CURLS

like something totally impossible for your hair to handle xD
btw your wig looks great!
im just wondering how real does it feel? liek if someone were to touch it =/ and would it fall off or… that’s my biggest fear @__@

jenny said
February 19, 2010 @ 6:16 pm

Yea I was very back & forth before I bought it “I want one” “oh it’s too strange” “but I want one!”

No it won’t just fall off your head like a hat. It’s got an elastic strap that fits tightly around your head and also you can pin it to YOUR hair and wig cap. It’s pretty secure. As for touch. It doesn’t feel extremely fake but it’s not as course feeling as real hair either.

Hahaha…I’ve always wanted to get a wig ever since I saw this model wearing one a few year ago! It seems like such a cool and neat idea. It also saves me money and time from having to dye my hair over and over again too….which can cause so much damage to my hair. My roots always grow out so fast every time I dye my hair and then my hair looks so ugly!!! I’ve been considering of redying my hair back to my natural black hair colour so that I won’t have to deal with recolouring it every 2-3 months.

But what I’m more worried about it my wig getting blown away on a windy day, haha.

I love the fact that you posted on wigs! So far I have 3 wigs and use them when I go out because it takes less time and my hair doesnt smell like smoke afterwards. If anyone is interested you can find a great wig on ebay for around $20-$30, which isnt bad considering just how much we spend on hair products. Well good luck guys and keep on wiggin : )

My lil’sis has really long dark hair and she just bought a light bob wig from Taiwan.
I can’t wait to see her try it on. It makes me want to buy extensions/a wig again!!

OMG! I love your wig!!! It looks so nice on you!! It’s like you have a complete Shibuhara regalia now, haha~ It’s refreshing to see Popteen models with bobbed wigs instead of their normal long & curled hair.

Wow your wig suits you well :o Doesn’t look like a wig, looks like it’s natural
I’m also going to buy a wig in order to have long and light hair, espcially a curly wig too xP

Ok, maybe Kim from the Real Housewives of Atlanta has something going on there. XP That is a HUGE jump in sales! And I think the wig you bought is adorbs. Does it look and feel fairly natural too?

I’d say it looks more natural than it feels.

Yay you got a wig!!! It looks fabulous, so natural-looking too! Really love the first pic of you~

I, too, am tempted by the easiness of a wig… but wigs and fake hair creep Jonathan out, LOL so I’m s.o.l.~~

LOL!!!

Welcome to the “fake” hair life !!
I kind of would like a wig….!! But i would be paranoid you could tell it’s fake ~~
Using extensions is actually more time-consuming than just wearing my regular hair T___T

OMG!!!!
When that girl took off her extensions + her fringe , I pretty much died.
But it also made me want a fake fringe.
So happy that I don’t have to cut my side-swept bangs anymore =)
Oh, but I’m not the type to care if ppl know it’s fake !

Your wig looks really cute, good choice since your so torn about missing your long hair.

I have been wanting to get a Prisila long curly wig for ages now, just haven’t taken the plunge to invest. Takes me -forever- to curl my thick hair and then comes the humidity fight.

I know you said you were hesitant, but I’m really glad you made such a nice long post on this subject. The video was really interesting! If I knew I could get my hair color to match I would probably be really into wearing partials.

I love this picture-heavy post!!!

Wigs are cool but I’m a big fan of the snap-in hair pieces. They don’t make your head feel hot (just a tad heavier from the extra weight) and not as expensive/time consuming as getting hair extensions put it (and then taken out/adjusted).

Woooow~ those wigs look so gooood! (:
I would totally get a long, curled one, but then again I dont know when/if I’ll ever wear it in public
It’d feel too strange for me xP

Your wig looks so cute on you though! I couldnt even tell it was a wig haha ^^
Btw I love your site

Wearing a wig isn’t so embarrassing. I thought it was at first. I had really long hair; about 2 feet long, but I always wanted a new style without cutting my hair. Well, my mom bought me this really cute wig with the flip style that was popular at the time. It even had some burgundy strips blended in. At first, I was so embarrassed, even though I didn’t know why. I had long, thick, healthy hair that everyone was always touching underneath, what did I have to be ashamed of? It wasn’t like I was hiding a bad haircut…. Well, I was, for one reason or another, and I told everyone I cut my hair, lol. Someone found out it was a lie by the end of the day, and then I really was embarrassed. I got weird after that and started immediately telling everyone that it was a wig

This was 7 years ago, I’ve since learned that it’s not so bad to have a wig, and in fact, when I can get a real job, I’d like to have a small collection of my own. They’re not just good for those reasons you stated, but also in case you’re at a place where maybe a particular color or style isn’t acceptable (like say you want to have pink tips, but you work in a law firm), or if you’re younger, maybe you’re not allowed to cut or color your hair. It’s not strange to change your shirt, so it shouldn’t be strange to wear a wig! Just don’t lie and say it’s your own hair You don’t have to immediately be upfront and tell everyone it’s fake, but when someone compliments you, you don’t have to blurt it out like I did, lol.

So, um, tl:dr, if someone says it’s cute, just say thanks, and if anyone asks more, tell them the truth. Wigs are fun!

Thank you so much for writing this. I recently lost my hair to alopecia and am in need of some decent wigs. I cannot find any that I like in the country I currently live in, but the Japanese ones look amazing. I’m going to order some via Rina’s Shopping Service, as she’s got only positive reviews in ebay. I would be very happy to share photo’s with you privately if you’d like to see how I look like in the wigs?

Wearing a wig is a such a wonderful thing, you can change your style according to your need, also it is a good way to protect your hair and skin.

If you have any need in wigs, you can go http://www.guadeloupewigs.com/ to check if there were any you like.

Thanks so much for the post! It’s interesting to see how real-life Japanese girls use wigs I just got my first wig & half-wig two weeks ago, and I absolutely LOVE them! My hair was splitting itself to death from all the perming and coloring, so I decided to give Japanese wigs a try. I’m glad they look much more natural and fashionable than Western wigs

Unfortunately that video was taken down by youtube :( but thanks a lot for your pictures!
