Tsubasa & Elis Napkins

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010 | 52 Comments

Actually put something else on besides sweats after work today…
Ran out to get some quick dinner… started to rain soon after

Skull Tank - Victoria’s Secret
Pants (white/blue striped) - H&M
Pink Tank - unknown
Ribbon Flip Flops - Donki (ドン キホーテ)
Rucksack - WC
Frames - Urban Outfitters

We got Popeye’s Chicken. I haven’t had them in a really, really long time but Mike suggested some indulgent fast food since I was having such a crappy day! I was happy to see Popeye’s now lists the calories of every menu item up on the big order board!!!! AMAZING! thank you, thank you Popeye’s

I was having, really, just another crappy day. A repeat of Monday. I got home and was wrapped up in a pretty boisterous pity party when I spotted a package from my friend!

YAAAY!

She had mentioned she was sending a little something to me this week.

Store fliers/booklets (including a Cat Cafe flier called Cafe Calico!)
Bath bombs
Snacks!

I’ve actually tried the one on the right before & its scent is lovely & sweet!
The left one will be a new try for me!

I already ate one bag of chips she sent! The edamame flavor chips~~ these were REALLY GOOD as most soybean flavored chips are.

Tsubasa & Elis Collab!
益若つばさ×エリス
Maxi pads!
They feature a shadow cut-out of Tsubasa on the packaging.

HAAAAHAHAHAAA!
It’s so random she sent me these! I was already telling Mike I was gonna buy these when we go! I think it’s hilarious & cute! I’ve even been looking at the maxi pads that the Japanese market by me sells because they sell Elis brand too and I was hoping they’d get in these collaboration ones by chance!!

My friend is on the same wacky wavelength as me, and I love that!
These made my day, I love her so much

Sweet little icons decorate the packaging

Pads themselves are pretty typical except that the adhesive strip repeats the little icon pattern

Tsubasa mentioned this collab back in March here on her blog.
I really liked the idea. I know it might seem like a sorta pointless collab, but WHY AREN’T these products dolled up and made cute already!? I mean, what’s so wrong with wanting a quite UN-CUTE part of womanhood to be girlie’d up with vivid colors and designs???!!

Photos from Tsubasa’s Blog

Strangely enough, soon after I saw the collab stuff I received a free sample of a new product line from Kotex in the mail. Their new “U” line features brightly colored lady products! It worked b/c I actually went out & switched brands on a few things I buy *cough* haahaa! You can request to receive free samples too!

I think you have to have a sense of humor about these things~ it’s not the dark ages anymore and it shouldn’t be something seen as embarrassing~~~!! Besides~ who likes being serious ALL THE TIME Who would have thought I’d be posting pictures of maxi pads all over my blog~~!! HAH! :haha:

Are you excited to go to Japan? did you save up a lot of money? what is the cheapest way to get there (if you know)? I’ve been really looking around cause i want to go for my birthday, but i think that’s too close. (in october) . I’ve never been before and I really want to go!!

by the way your bangs look really cute braided like that.

The hickory stripe pants!? YAAY!

I am quite excited, thank you! Cheap way there? To live close, haahaa. Since I live in DC it’s insanely $$$ for the flight. Yea if you’re thinking of going in October you should get on priceline or something for hotel + flight deals. Any special prices will be up by now

Haha, when I was in Japan last year, I had to buy some sanitary napkins/pantyliners/whatever, and the designs on the packing were so cute! They had little flying piggies and clouds all over them~

I got a sample of that new Kotex brand too; they came in a nice little bag. I really like the colors, and the packing isn’t that really crinkly loud stuff either.

jenny said
July 15, 2010 @ 9:52 pm

Yea, I switched to them for some stuff actually! You’re right, the wrappers don’t crinkle! I hadn’t realized.

Holy Christ on a bike that is the funniest thing ever - I wonder if there are others like it! Everybody should endorse a pad! Anna Tsuchiya could do a biker-tough one, and Mika Nakashima could do a goth-girl one or maybe a pink and black one for the two Nana’s - LOL ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES

My friend sent me the same bijin bath salt of the girl on the right! Cuteness!

I want to do the side braid for the wedding! How much to fly you to Cape Cod and make me burtiful???!?

jenny said
July 15, 2010 @ 9:55 pm

OMG THEY SHOULD!!!!! LOL! I think this is probably the most random endorsement ever~~!!

Trust me, if I accomplished the braid you TOTALLY can!

Ys said
July 14, 2010 @ 11:30 am

I totally agree: they should be girlied up! I remember Tampax did it, made all the wrappers bright and colourful. The pads need to catch up to them, I think

Tsubasa pads, great!! LOL I love wacky Japan~~ I always did love Tampex Pearls since the packaging was pretty attractive though.
Hope your Monday’s get better soon!! If they get too unbearable, perhaps watching “Office Space” and wrecking an ink jet will make your day ^_____^♥

jenny said
July 15, 2010 @ 9:56 pm

Oh yea, I forgot how surprising that was when pearl came out with the swirls on the packaging!

OMG, the themed pads! Awesome! I wonder when the states are going to catch on. Lady Gaga Tampons, anyone?

I don’t use the disposable pads/tampons anymore, but I when I used to, I was always *so* embarrassed by the packaging. Not actually what was in it, but that seafoam green, or that pastel pink wrapper….ugh.

jenny said
July 15, 2010 @ 9:58 pm

Dear lord Lady Gaga tampons would sell out so quickly LOOOOOOOL. And yes… the dreaded seafoam green!!

I’m waiting for the giveaway ;D haha *jk*
I personally don’t care what pads look like and I still find it odd that you would aim them at gals…but if it makes her money and people can er…get good use out of them (??) then I’m all for it a

jenny said
July 15, 2010 @ 10:01 pm

Yea, I can imagine the company pursued this knowing it would make at least SOME BANK. Wonder what the competition in the hygiene department is like over there. I feel here in the
US it’s like ALWAYS PADS and TAMPAX TAMPONS = 99.9% of the profits.

bloomzy said
July 16, 2010 @ 11:58 am

Well I hope if there is some kind of competition she can break it
Yeah it’s the same in the UK too, and I imagine it is in Japan. It sounds so silly but this is one of those tiny things I worry about when I move to Tokyo…where and which pads will I buy?! haha

jenny said
July 16, 2010 @ 10:05 pm

Not silly at all!! During a summer exchange to Germany I was the only girl to bring her own stash of US brand tampons (applicator style.) Come to find out, the non-applicator style tampons were the most popular there at the time and all the girls in my class were miserable…. except me! bwahahahaaa!

I’m loving your cute-casual after work outfit~ those flip flops are just adorable! ❤ & you did the side-braid hairstyle! Love it so much on you~
Is it sad that I actually think the Elis pads are cute? lol Packaging is everything to me, so even though they’re technically standard they’re cute!
& yea, I totally signed up for the Kotex U freebies… lol~

Kekeke, maxi pads should be way cuter than they are now~ who wouldn’t want a friend that sends you adorable maxi pads from japan? Once again, I must point out that you’re one of the luckiest people in the world Jenny!!!! By the way, when are you planning to visit Japan? OH! And. D I’d. We need to start selling those Elis pads in the US. Or at least add decorations to the pads in stores. It’ll make me less grumpy when I have to go into cvs in the middle of the night to buy them. And I hope you’re feeling better. Nothing cures the blues like some good fast food & a good laugh.

Becky said

Indulgent food on crappy days is a must ;D
I’ve heard about the cat cafe & seen it on youtube before. It’s a really cute idea. I’d love to have my drink & be able to pet some cats
And yes… Why don’t they make pads’ packaging more girlie? Since they are feminine products… If they made the packaging more pretty maybe I wouldn’t be so embarrassed and it could be passed off as a notebook or something in case it ever fell out

i am a little angry as to why the topic of pads or the very existence of them in one’s bag used to MORTIFY me when i was going through puberty… it shouldn’t be so hush hush and they should teach boys not to tease girls about it, it was A DIFFICULT TIME which shouldn’t need to be >: (

so yes, cute packaging ;D and not talking about pads like they are some sort of shameful item! woo!
