Dry Shampoo

Sunday, June 21st, 2009 | 47 Comments

Hey everyone~~ I really wanted to blog today but haven’t had a chance till now & it’s nearly 11pm! I’ve been mostly busy. We went to see “Year One” this morning. It was OK. Not great but not bad either. Rent it, haahaa (when it’s out on DVD obviously). Then we went and did some shopping.

I saw these really cute sweaters at Old Navy with a bow motif on them! I think they’d be really cute for work but I couldn’t imagine standing in the summer heat in it despite it being short-sleeved.

Then at Target I saw THE CUTEST ROOM WEAR stuff!!! They had these ruffle & bow pieces in both short separates and longer onepiece items! I wanted the white tank + short set but they were sold out of my size

It’s been so warm out and even semi-dry! Well, dry enough for periods of time that I can get away with skirts and cute shoes

When it rains I always wear boring, plastic shoes because I don’t want to ruin my cute stuff of course! The pink off-shoulder shirt I got from Yesstyle is so cute & marine style, ね! I love the anchor on it~ It’s nice to have marine-themed items in non-blue, white, or red!

I thought the jewels on these funky eyelashes matched the studded anchor of the shirt well, haahaa!

They were really cheap lashes and totally plasticy BUT they went on easier than any other pair I own!
Oh the irony :driftingoff:

Speaking of purchases, I bought a sample (or travel) size of Dry Shampoo. It was on a whim really. I don’t really understand the hype with this stuff? It just reminds me of Elizabethan times when powder was used in hair as a way to mask odor! But nevertheless my hair (especially bangs) get oily mid-day and so I was thinking this might help.

The verdict?
It’s OK.
The powder smells great and it does help eliminate some of the greasy look. I don’t know if this is a MUST HAVE product for every day use though. I could see this being REALLY helpful on long overseas trips for freshening up your do, or perhaps after the gym or if you’re running late in the mornings and have to skip on the shower. It does make your hair really shiny

Literally just took these

The before & after would have been better if I hadn’t already used the stuff at the store to test it out! Haahaa. So yea I’ll mostly use this after work on hot days when I’m wanting to go back out.

Besides makeup, I tried on a bunch of cute clothes today which really cheered me up! HOWEVER, I was a real good girl and didn’t buy any of them ! YAY FOR WILLPOWER!
Here are a few snaps from a store called Papaya~
Oh, and my deco case isn’t on because a whip fell off and the glue underneath felt sticky still so I reattached it and am giving it longer to dry!

Yes, that’s what I wore today on the left & YES I’m standing on my toilet, haahaa.
Another Yesstyle shirt! I actually got a compliment on it at Sephora today, heehee
Casual wear Saturday~~
The dress on the right was actually too big on me. Usually I take a (L) there but today I was really needing (M), haahaa. Diet helping?
I LOVED this cute dress! The flower empire waist was so adorable~
I look really tired
I blame it on Friday night

I LOVED this dress too! There’s actually an overlay of black polka dots on the tulle (?)

That’s it for now. I did find a black maxi (sorta?) dress that I’ll post later. Got it on sale for $20
But it’s really late now so I’m going to go watch TV & fall asleep

Never heard of the dry shampoo, but it does seem helpful for traveling! Every season change I feel I NEED to shop to better suit the changes in weather even though I own plenty of clothes to suit all those needs T__T I want to get some adorable summer dress pretty badly right now, that’s one thing I lack. That black dress with the tulle {yes, you’re right} is incredibly cute!

Oh, you, being fashionable as usual. I don’t have any summer clothing :(

I bought some powder for Lush Cosmetics to make me feel better in the humid Hawaii climate in a couple of weeks! I hope this powder thing works out for me.

Wow! I can’t believe they sell those cute tops at Target! The Target near me rarely have any cute tops like those.

I’ve never heard of dry shampoo. However, I’m sure it will come in handy.

Aww jenny, your outfits are so cute. Thanks for the dry shampoo review. I always thought it was some kind of new invention -_-; then I thought about the olden days when people wore wigs and never washed their hair! I was hoping it would help the bangs from being so oily, :3 so now I will try it out! My hair has a tendency to get greasy… I don’t even use conditioner. Yeah, this product seems to suit my laziness when I don’t want to wash my hair teehee

Jenny! everytime i try to put on false lashes, they never stick!! can u give me some suggestions? does it depend on what brand u buy? I always end up holding the false lash with my hand instead of a tweezer b/c i find it easier to control, but it always messes up the shape of the lashes :(

Are you using the glue that comes with the lashes?

I bought a separate tube of adhesive since not all lashes come with their own:
http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/6590/adh02.jpg

That brand works OK. You should apply it to the lash band and wait a minute to allow it to become dry/sticky.

I used to use my fingers to apply them but I bought this:
http://sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P130229&categoryId=B70

It helps grip and place the lash along your lash line. There are cheaper versions now too!
http://www.cvs.com/CVSApp/catalog/shop_product_detail.jsp?filterBy=&skuId=206271&productId=206271&navAction=jump&navCount=3
http://www.cvs.com/CVSApp/catalog/shop_product_detail.jsp?filterBy=&skuId=246348&productId=246348&navAction=jump&navCount=3

You hold it there for a few seconds then open the gripper. Then press and hold the lash corners against the corner of your eye for a few seconds to securely dry them to your lash line’s corners.

Search youtube, there’s tutorials!
http://www.youtube.com/results?search_type=&search_query=false+eyelash&aq=f

There’s a couple of ways to apply them.

omgg. that room wear stuff is ADORABLEE~!! I actually like the white one better than the pink, haha~ *MUST GETS*

Your marine-inspire outfit is awesome too~ those lashes look amazing on you~! May I ask where you bought them? I really want to get a pair of fake lashes too but I’m so scared I’m gonna glue my eyes shut or something lol~

Love the new gets also (especially the flower empire dress!! Where did you get?? ~) & the dry shampoo looks like it does wonders! My bangs tend to get really gross too, mou~

I’m glad you’re having a good weekend though~! *hug*

Yea I totally loved the white one the most! They come in a pretty blue too though

I actually got these lashes really cheap ($1.00 for 2 sets) at Charlotte Russe. I’ve seen some similar ones at CVS too though. Also Amuse at Tyson’s has a boat-load like em for about $3.00 plus adhesive and tools

Oh the dresses! I didn’t buy any of them actually, only tried them on (heehee. Trying to save money for travel!) All the dresses were at Papaya at Tyson’s! They were between $22.00 ~ $30.00.

Dry shampoo! I’ve never heard of that before, haha!

I have a quick question - you seem to be the expert on Japanese beauty products. Do you know a website that ships to America/is in English/anything that an American would be able to access that sells Japanese beauty products?

You see, I bought these amazing nose strips for blackhead removal, and they’re Japanese, and I’m just about out. D: I bought them in Orlando, and I live a good hour away and really don’t want to drive. ;__;

They work wayyyyyy better than the Biore ones and anything else I’ve tried.

Here are 3 sites I’ve actually used for Japanese products. There are a few others out there but I’ve never personally used them

Yesstyle’s Beauty section:

Webichi (tons of onsen salts, just fyi, haahaa):

Ohayousa:

Yay dry shampoo! It reminds me of that great Michel Gondry Cibo Matto music video ‘Sugar Water” where Miho showers with pink sugar dry shampoo.

I adore the pink rosette top! I wish Empire looked good on me, but I have very wide shoulders, so I’m told a wrap is best (but I think it makes me look a but frumpy haha)

I LOVE PAPAYA!!! But the nearest store is well-over 15 miles :(. I have to drive to the next city just to buy clothes there. SADNESSSS.

I love the stuff you tried on~~!!!!

I never understood the hype for dry shampoo either and don’t really think it a must have for everyday use. But yes, I agree that it would be good for overseas trips when you’re touring and things like that.

As long as it works!

Wow I’ve always wondered about that dry shampoo stuff. It sounded a bit odd to me when I first heard about it.

Papaya is such a cute store!! I wish they had it at every mall but they don’t! :( Those outfits that you tried on look so cute on you too! The black dress is my fave! Loving those fake lashes too! I know it sounds weird, but I think the crisscross ones look more natural than the straight fake lashes .

I use the oscar blandi dry shampoo on a regular basis as my hair get oily, plus it’s dark so any drop of oiliness stands out easily. It’s a little pricey but it does last (though I’ve used regular scented talcum powder that can be bought for a few bucks and gotten the similar results, minus the fresh-scent feeling I get with oscar blandi’s). It make my hair smell so fresh too! I like the rene furterer one also for when I don’t want to regular-shampoo at all (but hate the smell). Stila makes a nice hair-cleaning powder too, but not a big fan of the scents.

That black dress is SO cute!!! I think it is splurge-worthy.

uwaaa your casual saturday outfit was so cute!!! you really pull off the rolled-up jeans look really well~~ some people (ex. ME) just end up looking short and stumpy when i roll my jeans up mid-calf. and the target pieces were just too cute~~~
what’s your take on fake lashes? they always look so difficult to me and im petrified that when i remove them/use them a lot i’ll end up taking off chunks of my real lashes too T_T
and the pink dress looked so cute on you!! it reminds me of a sage green chiffon dress i have - it’s quite similar to that one actually but with spaghetti straps and larger flowers and light crystal beading detailing ^^ get the dress when it goes on sale! kekekekeke

jenny said
June 23, 2009 @ 6:39 pm

Well, in theory the fake lashes go along your lash line & never ON your actual real lashes so pulling them off shouldn’t pull off any lashes. I’ve never had that problem. It’s just tacky glue holding them, it’s a million times easier than removing a band-aid

For me though I love fake lashes for the drama (some would say fake) look! Though it seems a lot of people want their fake lashes to look natural.
