Tons of Snow

Saturday, December 19th, 2009 | 45 Comments

Firstly, does anyone have a Japan shopping service they’ve used and were fairly happy with? I’m looking to purchase from the Shibuya 109 net shop. I know there’s the new International Rakuten but it’s difficult to find the latest items on there.

In other news, EPIC SNOW IN DC!

Something like 2 feet is expected but a few hours ago were we already at 17″ and it’ll be snowing until midnight. Hum, hummmmmm! I need to go check where we’re at now!

We’re actually doing “our” Christmas this weekend so it works out for us! We’ll be spending Christmas at family’s this year. We usually do Christmas here, just us. It’s a bit bittersweet. I enjoy Christmas the most without family. I know it sounds awful but Mike’s my family now.

But I’m also happy to see family on Christmas too this year. It’ll be nice.
We’re cooking Turkey dinner tonight and tomorrow morning will be our “Christmas Day.” Hahahahaa! It seems so weird and early but with work & travel it’s the only time that worked.

Oh! So the first Abercrombie & Fitch opened last week in Tokyo. My friend told me they’re being really secretive about their prices. To the point that they even conceal the original US prices from any Japanese user that visits the US online store. When they visit the US online store the prices are only visible in Japanese yen and not the original US dollar amount! SNEAKY~ SNEAKY! Looks like A&F want to try and recoup lost American Dollars from the currently stronger Japanese market. Glad my friend got some cheap A&F gets during her visit with me this summer! $7 shorts, whut whut! Hahahahahaa

Cute cute snow pictures~!
& hope you have a fun & merry ‘private’ Christmas ♥
I haven’t used a Japanese shopping service in agesss. The one I did use though was Shopping Mall Japan which I used for Yahoo Japan auctions but apparently they do shopping too. My experience with them was okay except it took FOREVER for stuff to ship :( I think it might be different though shopping directly from a store though.
Hope that helps a bit!!

YAAY! Merry Christmas!

I totally get you on the Christmas thing - my family is SO high stress I’m actually bummed out we are living closer to them now X/ (guilt) Like Noma, I will escape them http://ameblo.jp/noma-7/theme-10009369576.html

The snow should be hitting us soon! weee

Rakuten adds lots of surcharges after the products arrive in the US *and* they take forever. I’m still waiting for my things and I’m worried they are lost. If you can’t write to their cust. serv. in Japanese, they can’t help you :( Hope this helps!

Hahahaha, that dog mask further down the page is crazy creeptastic!

Ah, yes, the Rakuten advice DOES help! Since I had been browsing thinking it would be easiest. Hmm, hmm.

I was recommended by a friend to use tenso.com

http://www.tenso.com/en/landing/

I haven’t received my order from them yet, as my last item that I ordered from a Japanese clothing site just got shipped to them. However, they respond pretty quickly when I ask them questions and stuff and they respond to you in English too! Their shipping can be a bit expensive though (about $30-40 depending on the weight of your package)

Thanks! Yea, I expect shipping to be $$$. I ship gifts to Japan a lot and it usually costs MORE than the gift =___=;;

OMG that is soo much freaking snow. I heard about it on the news. My family in Connecticut got a bunch of snow too I think. O.o I just pray no one’s power goes out. I heard they were worried about that. :o

But, on the bright side it is beautiful and your early Christmas will be white

I love the last two pictures! I’m not much of a winter person to be honest. Snow is nice but cumbersome imo ^^’

I didn’t know a&f had cheaper things… I’ve never seen 9 dollar shorts there! though I don’t go in there much because of the perfume, it always gives me a head ache.

CUTE HAT! and such long lahes that the snow collects on it -_- JEALOUS! *heart it*

Yea I rarely go too but it’s huge in Japan and they had some crazy sales on shorts!! Of course it was September so it made sense, but $7 for 60$ shorts! A STEAL.

Oh my god~ That is a massive amount of snow!! I can say I am so glad not to be in that snow haha, I am so not into snow. Your eyelashes are so long, they catch a lot of snow ^^

“Mike’s my family now.” That is so sweet and romantic, it touches my heart!

I heard that Japanese people who went to the A&F felt the prices were too high, but I didn’t know the company was going to extremes to conceals American prices. I think that’s really sneaky!

There’s supposed to be snow here tomorrow but not that much!
Aww celebrating Christmas just the two of you is really nice ^-^

LOL about A&F

Ha! DC is snowing harder than here in Philly! But I guess it’s gonna be bad tomorrow morning here, too
I’ve only bought some cosmetics from a Japanse service called “makeup celebrity.” That one is pretty good and has nice customer service. But it seems that you’re looking for sellers that sell clothes Anyway, just wanna share this good one with u~

“My friend told me they’re being really secretive about their prices.”

I saw this on some Japanese news show, but a lot of Japanese shoppers prefer cheaper, “fast fashion” nowadays (like Forever 21, H&M maybe) and A&F is just way too expensive! So true, hahah.

SNOWSNOWSNOW!

I love how Christmas seems much more Christmassy in America/England. I think it’s because we don’t really have very Christmas Appropriate weather - melting in a pool of your own sweat is not really very conducive to festive behavior!

I haven’t bought anything through remote buyers in Japan - I utilize freinds and family who travel a lot (TEE HEE HEE). What can I say? I’m pretty cheap!

Wow! I saw the snow on the news today!! I really want snow :( I really, really want it! I think I’ve mentioned this on your comments like 5 million times now, haha. It’s just so pretty and lovely.

I definitely understand how you feel during the holidays. I’m looking forward to moving overseas so I don’t have the stress of family during this time but I’ll probably be sad about it too~

Thank you for asking about the Japanese shopping services! I am a regular reader of your blog from sunny Australia and have been so frustrated trying to locate ways to get the latest styles. Rakuten is so confusing. xx Merry Christmas!

WOW! EPIC SNOW IS RIGHT! I’m so jealous. It doesn’t snow in my area. Only like once every 8 years there would be a thin layer of frost/snow when we wake up. And if we’re lucky, we get a little pieces of ice. It was supposed “snow” last week but it didn’t happen. Utter disappointment. But that’s okay because I had to bike to school for an 8AM final that morning anyhow, so the cold snowy weather would have been terrible biking condition…

Anywho, have a great holiday season! =]

The snow is SO beautiful!! I’m tons of jealous.

I also know what you mean, though, about Christmas. I really wish I could spend it with just me and my boyfriend because family just makes it a huge uncomfortable deal. (It’s like a competition on who spent the most on presents. And my grandma won’t let you open anything until she’s sure everyone’s watching. I absolutely hate it. – But yeah of course because of my age and not being married there’s no way I could ever NOT spend it with family this year…=/
Well have a lovely Christmas!!

jenny said
December 20, 2009 @ 5:32 pm

Ah yea. When we were dating we’d open each other’s gifts a day early because we’d have to spend it with our families which always bummed us out too!
