Back to Shiseido’s Tsubaki

Jul 26, 2011

I’ve used Shiseido’s Tsubaki shampoo on and off for about 6 years now. I always go back to it lol. I ran out of my John Frida stuff lately and wanted to try something new. I bought that Cherry Blossom shampoo the other week. Well I hate it. Leaves my hair so flat and dull.

So I picked up Tsubaki again (at Maruichi in Rockville) as well as the treatment that’s used 1~2 times a week.

Already my hair is looking shiny shiny :deco9: again and not dead. Fly-aways gone too. Weeeeeee. ::9: I will always love this line. Only thing that keeps me from buying it nonstop is import price. :deco13: But then I got back to it and I’m like “IT’S WORTH EEEET!” :deco5:

Though next time I might switch to Lux. Store owner convinced me when he said it makes your hair “fluffy.” I WANT FLUFFY HAIR! My perm is like 99% gone now so I lack fluff without styling product.  :deco13:

I’m getting off on a tangent for no reason. Just wanted to post my shampoo. Mostly to remind myself why I keep going back to it and to stop trying to find my next “it” shampoo/conditioner.

Here’s a photo of my new skirt I got from Urban Outfitters last week.

  1. haha even here in Japan, Tsubaki is too expensive! My ex-roommate loved Tsubaki, but often complained about it being too expensive haha I can just imagine how expensive it is with the 77.7 yen to dollar exchange now! :(

    • jenny says:

More than double t___t, more than double x( I justify it in my head because I already buy John Frida stuff which is already like $10 a bottle and I’m like “oh just a “couple extra bucks” more… *fail

  2. Yuki says:

I always wanted to order some Tsubaki, but never had the money for it.
    I think when all my shampoos and stuff are empty I’ll order it or some other japanese hair product ;~;

  3. Firipa says:

I used tsubaki and lux before, and i prefered lux! i find it harder to find here in london though. ebay might be a better option.
i’m a john frieda kind of girl, but i’ve been trying the new line from dove, so much cheaper. its good and smells nice, no complains so far, but i like that the john frieda straight line actually makes my hair straighter (amazing!) so I think i will go back to it soon.

that is a very nice quote! :)

  4. Sidney says:

have you ever tried burt’s bees shampoo/conditioner line?? i LOVE IT. it’s all i use, i recently switched from the “very volume” type to the “more moisture” because it’s so much drier here than korea, and i still love it. i’ve never tried a japanese shampoo before, though, so i can’t compare T T

  5. Tori says:

I didn’t wanna say anything negative about the Cherry Blossom shampoo when you bought it because I thought it might have changed since I last bought that line, but… I’m not surprised XD I bought that line before, some Coconut scented one, & it was awfulll~ totally did NOTHING for my hair but make it feel dirty :( I’m glad you went back to your old standby! ♥

    • jenny says:

LOL it’s OK, you could have spoken up! Everyone’s hair is different so maybe it would have worked for me, but seems like maybe that stuff is just sh*T I dunno. I told Mike very sarcastically, “It was organic.. should have figured. CHEMICALS PLEASE!”

  6. I used this when I first moved to Japan but it’s too heavy for my super thin hair :| My fiance uses LUX and I’ve used it a few times and it doesn’t weigh my hair down as much as Tsubaki did… and his hair is always nice! I really love Japanese version of Head and Shoulders… it’s called H&S here (for ‘Head Spa) and it makes my hair so shinny!

  7. mommo says:

It is good it is good! I like it but cost pretty expensive here so I’m using herbal essence :D

  8. listen to the fortune bb! my dad almost bought me that skirt but i thought it looked too much like lingerie, but on you its super cute! might have to go back and get!!!! :X

i am also trying a new hair treament, i hated it at first but NOW I LOVES

  9. Ellie says:

I actually starte buying this shampoo because there’s a character called tsubaki in bleach :D and I’m already a pretty big fan of shiseido ^^ APPROVED. WAITING FOR YOUR LONG HAIR

  10. Honeydew says:

I like tsubaki shampoo too but it’s just too expensive that I can’t afford to keep buying. ;_; I actually have been wanting to try using this other Japanese shampoo brand called Essentials. I have their honey butter mask and I find that it makes my hair very smooth and silky so I’m interested in trying out the shampoo. However, import price is so expensive and I don’t really have the money to buy it. :(

  11. angel says:

this shampoo sounds good i hope they sell it here in the philippines :( back when I had permed hair- kerastase volumactive mousse gave me super fluffy hair! amazing volume for very fine limp hair like mine

    • jenny says:

You perm your hair too? Mine is dying out, I’ve had 2 now this year and already I want another LOL. I have fine limp hair like you without a perm :(

I’ve never used that mousse before but Googled it. WOW! High price, it must be effective!

  12. Leslie says:

My sister loves Tsubaki and I recently recommended it to one of my friends who also loves it! The last time I used any Japanese shampoo/conditioners I used Lux for a while (which I liked/thought was nice) as well as Essential, which is also nice! Sigh but I always think it’s a little exorbitant to pay $10+ for one bottle, but I guess it’s equally annoying to use shampoo that just makes your hair feel lifeless. :(

  13. sukipooki says:

Tsubaki shampoo is awesome! Im currently using the white one for “damanged” hair since I’ve just dyed it so much recently, I loooooove the scent so much but I know what you mean by import prices!!!! Almost 20$ for shampoo and then another 20$ for the conditioner but then again the bottle seems like it will last me some time…it better! Im glad to hear you have had such a good experience with the brand!

    • jenny says:

I like how that one smells too!! I used it when I had long damaged hair from daily curling. YESSS the import price is SO much now! I remember before the total crappy dollar’s fall it was around $12.00 for each but now I’m paying about $18.00~$20 *cries*

  14. Veronica says:

Lux is my favorite thing in the WOOOOORLD *the woooorld!* But I have to get mine off ebay because the Korean market that has it in Boston is MAD over priced :(

I haven’t tried the ‘black diamond’ lux, I wonder how that’s different?

  15. zoraida says:

you can have my fluffy hair!!!!!!!!!!! /gives it to you/

    i want wavy hair!!!!

  16. Souno says:

I always wanted to try Tsubaki. Probably the Damage type because of all of the hair dying that I do.

    • jenny says:

I’ve used the white bottle/damage type when I had long, daily curled hair but I think it was too heavy for my thin hair so I’m back to using the Shine/red version. But most people love, love the damage one!

  17. Hannah says:

I actually find the organic shampoo works a lot better than my old shampoo! When my mom start using it, it started working wonders on her hair!!

The conditioner and the shampoo make my hair feel so amazing ^__^

Plus the price is reasonable compared to what I would pay for Tsubaki.

  18. Hannah says:

But then I don’t have thin hair! I have thick hair that has a lot of body and volume. :D

  19. Long time no see! XD Vacations makes me busy >_> I`m not really a fan of LUX stuff. I don`t know, maybe brazilian products aren`t this good. But oh well~ I`m currently using Pantene Shampoo and Conditioner. Also thinking of switching for a korean brand. My hair is NOT in it`s best shape >_> Shiseido stuff is REALLY EXPENSIVE in Brazil >:

    • jenny says:

It’s double original price here in the States. Hey I was using Pantene! Actually I’m still using Pantene volume conditioner until it’s empty but it never does anything amazing for me. It’s OK though, not bad, but not amazing.

  20. Jessica Ann says:

    Hi Jenny~ :)
Tsubaki is always going to be my holy grail shampoo & conditioner! I love the scent and even more than that it puts life into my hair. It sucks that organics disappointed you though :(((

I was browsing ULTA the other day and saw that organics now carries a facial care line. They have a toner in cherry blossom with rose water :’D IDK, I immediately thought of you when I picked it up x)

  21. cin says:

I can help you get refills if you want? :D I always buy refill packs rather than bottles since it’s cheaper hehehe~ It was around 980 yen for both shampoo and conditioner I think (from Matsumoto Kiyoshi)~~

    • jenny says:

Awe thanks! But my market sells the refills for much less thank god. But I keep recycling the bottles out of habit hahahahahaha!

  22. novia says:

nice i might actually try this line. by the way was the first pick taken with iphone? what application? sankyu ^^

  23. Michelle says:

Woah woah. I love your outfit! I might have to try out this product :o

  24. kari says:

ooh? i’ve never tried lux… (the bottle looks like something from the 80’s… not in a good way! lol) but if you say it’s been recommended. i always use the white tsubaki line, but i don’t see that much of a change to my hair… maybe i should try the red one!

  25. lissy says:

i bought a pack in china because it was really cheap compared to the price here which is like $30 for a bottle o.o, but the thought of using it up makes me cringe D:

  26. Gabriella says:

My roommate loves Tsubaki and I’ve tried the shampoo, conditioner with treatment couple times. The smell of it is adorable, it reminds me of sweets.
It’s ashamed that they don’t have it in UK which means that need to buy and carry them in suitcase back, wasted a lot of kg.

  27. Linda says:

ahhhhhhhhh! your outfit is cute! especially your blouse, where did you get it? :)

  28. Karen says:

I switched to Tsubaki recently and I love it! It smells heavenly and the texture of the shampoo is silky compared to cheap drugstore ones which are just goopy (they do a great job clarifying though). I buy the refill packs too (400mL for about $15) and it’s cheaper than what I was using before (Sebastian, which was 250mL for about $20). I don’t wash my hair often so a 250mL bottle lasts me quite a while.

Have you tried Essential? I’ve heard it’s good and on the Sasa website it’s pretty cheap (around $7).

  29. Alisa says:

I bought Tsubaki when it was new in Japan because I was there for vacation.
Omg, it is such a good product!!! However, I thought it would be more for asian hair but it seems to have the same effect on western hair.

  30. Fuuka says:

I have been using Tsubaki for about 4 years now. I agree with the import price, but it is SO worth it. I use the White Tsubaki line, because I use a lot of heat products. Because of the price, I switched to Eclos brand which is a plant-stem cell haircare line. It is good, but not as good as Tsubaki. I will go back once I finish this.

  31. L says:

Tsubaki is my favourite. I always get refills if I visit Japan or I ask ppl to bring me back a refill if they’re visiting. :D

    Love your outfit too :)

  32. Huynh says:

I have never tried Tsubaki but I want to try it out now. I have fine textured hair so it’s always always flat even if I put hair styling products in it.

  33. Courtney says:

I’d love to find a nice solid shampoo like that (even if it wasn’t AS nice) but I can’t find anything that does anything particularly good for my hair. :/
Cute casual! Though yeah, the tights keep it from being too casual! :)

  34. agnes says:

what is that filter you’ve used in the top photo, that kind of prism effect-filter? i’ve seen that effect in a lot of you pics and i thik its so pretty! have been driving myself crazy trying to find out how to do it!
