Odaiba: Venus Fort & Ferris Wheel

Tuesday, October 19th, 2010 | 76 Comments

Three days!? OK, I’m just showing off at this point, LOL. Just gonna post a bunch of snaps from my day in Odaiba from my trip it’s about 30+ pics

Odaiba~!! All I cared about was going to ride the giant Ferris Wheel!! That & Venus Fort
(jp) seemed cool. My stomach was hurting a lot that day so I tended to want to “sit at cafes” more than anything. I guess I should mention that this place looking like Caesar’s Palace is no accident! It even has the false sky that changes colors from sunrise to sunset.

First when we arrived we had a big lunch at Cobara-Hetta! I got some shrimp wraps, salad and shared this French Toast dessert. It was cooked like Korean hotpot style but when you’d eat a piece it tasted EXACTLY like a big slice of French Toast! Delicious~

Also saw Snoopy Cafe!!

I love Snoopy. When I was really little I found all my Mom’s old Snoopy comic books. Volume after volume of the 60’s & 70’s Peanuts comic strips. I used to sit inside and read them on summer days when it was too hot to go out. Or when I felt lonely (I was a lonely kid.) So Snoopy (my favorite character) means a lot to me.

This was the tote bag I ended up getting! A bit pricey imo compared to the others available (24$) but I like that it said Snoopy Cafe.

Eco tote bags

Cafe counter where you can order desserts and snacks like donuts and hot dogs

There was also a Blythe exhibit going on featuring Blythe Dolls dressed up as Manga Girls. A lot of brands had dressed dolls there too representing their brand style! There were about 100 dolls I think. Food for the eyes!! I’ll post more of those photos later on~

Next to the Blythe display was a small Kiddyland. I was planning to go back to the large Harajuku Kiddyland but read here that it was closed for maintenance! Thank god I saw that before trying! I picked up some things here of course. Snoopy towel, Rilakkuma face massagers & bath bombs!

Then off to outlet shopping! It never occurred to me Japan would have Japanese brand outlet stores too since I had heard they usually have foreign brand outlet stores. They had a Dazzlin’, Duras, Titty&Co., and more! I found the best bargains at Dazzlin’! Soooo happy~~ 50% off sales ;p

Then we hit up Starbucks (lol) then THE GIANT FERRIS WHEEL! It was a weekday so NO line! Sweeeet. :haha: Everyone asked me to pick which bucket the ride in. There are colored ones but also 2 fully clear ones!! I chose clear… Everyone quickly regretted letting me choose lol. We had to wait 10 minutes though for one to swing around since there’s only 2 on the entire wheel. BUT IT WAS WORTH IT!

The people before us exiting the clear ferris wheel bucket! And yes, you get on & off while it’s moving . It takes 16 minutes to make a full rotation.

The Tipy-Top! It didn’t seem that high up after getting on it even though it’s 377ft high and one of the largest in the world

16 MINUTE MEMORIES!

After we were done I bought a Hello Kitty memorial strap! Huuuur so cute :p.

They did have the straps with Kitty in a clear bucket but it wasn’t as cute & red is my favorite color… I should have bought both

Next we drove to the mini Statue of Liberty~~ :good: I would have never guessed I’d see TWO of these in the same year, lol.

Rest of the day was spent at Harajuku, shopping~ Got to visit the WEGO there. It’s the one with the WC store with purikura~! Also, WEGO rocks. It reminds me of what a US store SHOULD be since it’s mostly American Casual or Surf style. Good deals & friendly staff . :good: This was the only WEGO I got to visit though :( Next door is Spinns = is awesome.

On the way out I pointed at a puff ball that fell off someone’s charm on the stairs. Cut to 3 hours later I realized IT WAS MINE! It had fallen off as I had gone in =_=;; *fail.

//the end

Hahaha, looks like so much fun!
We ran out of time to visit Odaiba (as my parents wanted to do Old People Stuff)!
Which was a shame because it looks like so much fun - also my mum is mortified of heights, so as you can imagine, there wouldn’t be much point visiting the massive Ferris wheel!

Auggh fail about the puff-ball!
I’ve done something like that before when I dropped my Kapibara San and pointed it out to my boyfriend before walking away and realising it was mine.

FAIL.

Yea I can’t imagine them having a good time there. It’s mostly shopping and a few science museums ;-;

I can still see the imagine of my puff on the stairs in my mind!! I got back to the room and was like “hum, smtg looks odd with my SBY charm…”

Hohum, parents!
Traveling with them is such a pain (as much as I love the crap out of them!)

Augh, the tragedy of it all!
It’s like a horrible flashback from one of those Korean dramas!

Ah, a friend of mine went the very same place with the statue and waterfall at Odaiba! I remember seeing her photos~ And is that the actual sky in the outlet photos? Because it looks too beautiful to be real. LOL!

And I LOVE ferris wheels! I would love to go on that if I ever visit Odaiba someday!

jenny said
October 20, 2010 @ 8:34 am

Nah it’s a fake ceiling sky that changes colors

We went during the day on a Wednesday or something so it was pretty dead BUT we did have to wait about 10 minutes to get a table at the restaurant by the water fountain still :(

Yay for third post in a row !

Odaiba seems really pretty & fun! You take really good pictures btw. Is Odaiba & Yokohama the same place? I’m kinda confused since I’m really bad with geography D:~ All I know is that both of them have ferris wheels. You’re lucky you got a clear cart~ I hope I get the chance to get a clear cart if I ever get to visit.

Was VenusFort the outlet mall? The inside totally reminds me of the inside of some of the malls in Las Vegas with the sky ceiling.

jenny said
October 20, 2010 @ 8:42 am

Nah Yokohama is like an hour away, south of Odaiba, but they’re both port cities so they probably look alike. Yeah I think their ferris wheel might be a bit taller too

Yup, Venus Fort is the outlet mall in the area

October 19, 2010 @ 10:46 pm

For an outlet, the interior design is very classy! It looks like the Las Vegas Forum Shops at Caesars Palace :O ! My goodness the french toast dessert looks so delicious *A* Thanks for sharing these photos, it really refreshes the mind after a long day of studying!

jenny said
October 20, 2010 @ 8:46 am

It’s supposed to look like Vegas actually! Isn’t that funny!? The ceiling lights change too changing the sky from sunrise to sunset

Aw lucky you can go there soon! Hope you find lots of sales!

October 19, 2010 @ 11:40 pm

omg that mall reminds me of the venetian hotel in las vegas~~
hello kitty souvenir~~super adorable…not like the tacky souvenirs we’ve here…
*jealous* snoopy cafe!!!

jenny said
October 20, 2010 @ 8:47 am

Yep, it’s no accident it looks like Caesars Palace~

Kim-Mari said
October 20, 2010 @ 12:10 am

Venus Fort looks like Monte Casino in Johannesburg~! What an awesome shopping mall… When I finally get to Japan I am so going there!

jenny said
October 20, 2010 @ 8:48 am

Oh really!? It’s modeled after Caesars Palace in Las Vegas so I’m sure it looks like a lot of casinos which is funny because it’s for shopping

Kim-Mari said
October 21, 2010 @ 12:08 am

Yeah I find it crazy how similar alot of these casinos are, but although Monte Casino is a casino it had a really small gambling area, and most of it was shopping & restaurants. MMMMM Spur Steakhouses~!

It was the first place in South Africa where I got asked to check my gun… I’m from NZ I don’t even have a gun! LOL.

Wow! the Snoopy cafe looks so CUTE!! and I can’t believe that it takes 16 mins to make a full rotation on the ferris wheel! that’s insanely HUGE for a ferris wheel! did the ticket only cover one rotation or a few?

jenny said
October 20, 2010 @ 8:50 am

Yea 1 ticket (it’s not too costly at 900 yen each) only covers 1 rotation but I dunno if I’d want to be on it for 30 minutes so it’s all good~ LOL

October 20, 2010 @ 2:08 am

coooool
i didnt know they had outlets in japan either! good to know good to know
i was in macau and i was at the venetian and it looks exactly like that outlet

but with this weird water bridge thing..yup…

jenny said
October 20, 2010 @ 8:52 am

I know right, outlets are so “American” in my brain but I guess surplus and sell off of last season stock is a global situation DD

Yep! They modeled after Caesars Palace!

October 20, 2010 @ 4:33 am

i love the outlet’s architecture, it’s so cozy looking outside. gives me a pride & prejudice/rome feeling for some odd reason haha.

omg, i give you props for going on the big ferris wheel!!

jenny said
October 20, 2010 @ 8:53 am

Are you scared of heights? I’m not but I forgot Mike was until we got into the clear box and then I was like “ooooooh, I’m such an ass aren’t I!!??” ;-;

Yea I didn’t know about Cobara-Hette but apparently that French Toast had recently been on a news story about how popular & creative it is! Lots of dishes there are served sorta Korean hot pot style :O

At the mall, is that the real sky? Or is that some kind of lighting effect cause it’s very purple and it looks like a painting…

jenny said

It’s just painting & lighting

The ferris wheel looks super fun and kind of reminds me of the ferris wheel they have here at Disney California Adventure! And the outlet center looks like you went to Caesar’s Palace in Vegas..haha. But that food looks delicious! I don’t know how I would be able to control myself if and when I go…too many sweets

jenny said
October 21, 2010 @ 2:18 pm

jenny said
October 21, 2010 @ 2:19 pm

The scary thing is once you commit it’s 16 minutes of riding DX

(haha) I actually didn’t go to the places you were at, though–Didn’t know about them at the time! *fail* Anyway, Snoopy cafe seems adorable; I’d love to go!

OUTLET MALLS ARE THE BEST THING EVER. i never think about them being in other countries/with other brands that aren’t in america, either! but i’ve been to one here in korea a few times…there was even an EGOIST store in the one here, but it was still HELLA PRICEY WTF.

anyway, i like the ferris wheel pics!! doing stuff like that is fun and relaxing (as long as you’re not afraid of heights). good combo~~

jenny said
October 21, 2010 @ 2:46 pm

Odaiba looks great. I clicked the Wiki-page and in that night-picture, is it the same ferris wheel as the one you guys got on? Really beautiful, both day and night.

A Snoopy-themed cafe sounds so cute! It looks like you guys got really lucky with the weather! I’m not sure what an outlet actually IS, I just recently saw them as separate sections on Nordic online clothing stores. If it involves shopping, good stuff and cheap, I’m lovin’ it, lol

Love your pictures! The scenery is gorgeous and I really like the effects you’ve used.

zomg, that French toast. Those shrimp wraps. @_@ The chilli saus is calling my name *hypnotized*
