Summer Time Bath Items

Tuesday, July 5th, 2011 | 51 Comments

A lot of people look at me strangely when they hear I take baths even in summer. I understand that I suppose. It’s hot out, what about soaking in a hot bath sounds pleasant?! Well there ARE salts & more specifically useful in the summer months!!

First let’s address a common summer situation, SUNBURN! I got sunburned at the beach a some weekends ago. And taking a shower, let alone a bath, is a bit torturous.

A few summers ago I started using Aveeno’s Soothing Bath Treatment. It’s packaged like a typical bath salt only instead of a mineral type it’s oatmeal! It’s an ultra fine powdery oatmeal mix. Just slowly add it into the running warm (not hot, your skin is irritated already,) water. It doesn’t mix super well on its own so there will be a few clumps you’ll need to break up in the water by hand. It’s ultra moisturizing and soothes irritated skin.

Also recommended for those with sensitive skin! So if you can’t use the typical bath additives, Aveeno’s might be a good choice! You’ll need to quick rinse the tub when you’re done. The oatmeal leaves behind a thin mud-like residue. If you don’t rinse it it’ll just dry back into a powder blah blah

As for Japanese summer-time bath salts, many “cooling salts” are released for summer! These usually have a mint theme or something similar and leave your skin feeling cool, refreshed, and minty! Some are more intense than others. I have some “super mint” salt from バスロマン called スーパークール! (in the above photo.) It’s peppermint scented and leaves me feeling super icy! I used to use it after lying out in the sun

I’ve used two cooling types from バスロマン brand. The other “クールタイプ” isn’t as intense and has a orange scent!

Another summer cooling salt I highly recommend is from アース製薬 one of my favorite bath salt brands. They focus on “onsen” related salts as a theme. They have a “cool” type known as 凉湯めぐり or “cooling hot spring tour!” For tiny packets they’re extremely potent. One of the best cooling types in my opinion.

One type that just came out earlier this summer I would LOVE to try is a brand new Bison brand of cooling & firming bath salt! The green “citrus mint” version has 7 out of 7 stars on cosme.net! The other scent is “extra mint.”

Unfortunately the only cooling items I could find currently on sale online is the body wash from the first photo. It has a great yuzu scent and cooling effect! Plus can be used in the shower of course! Nagomi refreshing yuzu body wash

Of course you can find the Aveeno soothing skin in US stores though! And they’re great in winter too for wind burned and dry skin.

Updated - Sasa has the new Bison cooling salts up for sale! Citrus Mint & Mint

7 stars?!!! I have never seen that from all my time lurking on @cosme. The highest that I have seen is 5.+ stars and that’s already very impressive. Gotta check the citrus mint bath salt out o.O

Yes yes yes!!! I know! I had to do a double take because I’ve never seen a 7 star review on there in
my life!!!! Usually it’s something I love and it ends up only getting 3 stars lol

I can’t wait either for me to move into my new apartment where I can actually take baths. T.T

I guess I’ll be on a watch out for these bath salts in the future.

jenny said
July 6, 2011 @ 5:36 pm

YES! I saw them back in April while flipping through a Japanese magazine at the salon!!! I was hyper excited but had no one to share it with LOL. Wish they’d be sold online at sasa or something already :(

OOO! Oatmeal bath!! I’ve been bathing with actual oatmeal~~ Apparently it’s good for your skin?
Let me know if you want any bath salts from Loft etc

jenny said
July 6, 2011 @ 5:37 pm

I’m sure the effects are extremely similar since these are very “pure” and use real finely ground oatmeal!

I doooooooooo but I commented on your blog bout your shopping service already xD

Omg, I’ve used Aveeno when I had a horrible allergic reaction to a spider bite. My face was awful, peeling, swollen, pussy. One of my eyes closed shut (yeah I know prob TMI but..)! After a trip to the doctor’s for a shot, I used the Aveeno soothing oatmeal as a salv for my face! It was so great! So I totally recommend this product too!

Now I’d love to try cooling mint baths….that sounds pure genius.

Augh! Charlene! That sounds absolutely awful (the spider bite) :( Glad you’re okay.

LOL Sorrrrrry!! It was a long long time ago though, haha.

jenny said

Still sounds absolutely miserable though. I always think any red bump is a brown recluse spider bite and I’m gonna lose flesh LOL It’s a highly over-dramatized fear!

This bath stuff is great, I use it in winter for wind burned or extra dry skin and in summer for sunburn and heat rash

(Comments wont nest below this level)

Oooh, cooling bath salts sounds like SUCH a great idea! I have to admit, I was definitely thinking “Why would you take a hot bath in the summer?!”, but then, I just had a mug of hot chocolate yesterday, so who am I to talk?

jenny said
July 6, 2011 @ 5:44 pm

Hahahahahah! You’re like Mike who orders “iced” Americano at Starbucks year round. They think he’s nuts! But here I am buying bath salts in summer.

I picked up those Bison bath salts when I was in Japan recently. Haven’t tried them yet though because it’s winter here.

jenny said
July 6, 2011 @ 5:47 pm

Hahaha understandable. My 1 tin of salts is actually from last summer. Didn’t use them all & using in winter would be suicide.
