Hanging Around Georgetown

Monday, July 11th, 2011 | 62 Comments

This weekend I made my way over to Georgetown to do some birthday gift hunting and basically just getting out.

Walked around, gawked at sweets at Dean & Deluca, ate lunch at a Cajun restaurant called Bayou (pretty good gumbo,) browsed expensive boutiques because I’m less likely to give into shopping at them compared to more affordable H&M or Zara lol.

Saw a gorgeous pleated skirt at Rag & Bone but it was $450.
Actually all their pre-fall items are drop dead perfect.  There’s a blazer & sweater I was feeling up on the rack.

There’s no avoiding the truth. It’s full on summer now.
Tanks and shorts summer now. T_T;;; Tomorrow it’s going to be 101F (38C) ~~~~
I often feel I can’t “wear what I want” because a tank + shorts is never what I want lol. So it’s time to live in onepiece/dresses and try to get creative I guess. I’m always carrying a sweater in my bag when planning to visit a mall or restaurant because then I get chilly being half naked for the outdoors!

Point is, I did a mini overhaul of my closet Sunday. Removed a bunch of clothing, some even purchased semi-recently, that I won’t, can’t, or don’t want to wear. Nothing donated yet, just in a sorta “time out” limbo for now so I can focus on staying cool with comfort.

Lately when I go into my closet I just stand there. Confused. Pondering…. “what could I possibly wear that doesn’t look disastrous?!” Many recent days are too hot for even my favorite maxi dress.

But it feels good now!
Coordinating should come about more easily now for the next 2 hottest months. August is always especially brutal. I do wish for cooler days. But I know I’ll be all bitchy about the coldest winter months too lol.
Can’t be helped~~~

I’ve been cleaning out my closet too. Things get taken out but just stick around outside my closet

It’s too hot for maxi dresses?? I can’t imagine how hot it gets :0 How about chiffon maxis?

Sadly yeah. Right now just having fabric covering your legs is like a boiling tent of torture. It’s especially hot right now. Around 38C today x_x

Yeah I don’t mind upper 80F’s but 90+ it starts to get where you don’t want to be outside. Plus the city’s air quality gets drastically worse them too x(

Oh I am right there with you Jenny. Its soooooo hot, all I am wearing now are cut offs and tanks. Not particularly stylish at all. When I am feeling more festive, I’ll put on a dress. I cannot wait for fall. I honestly do prefer the rain and snow to all this heat. When my roommate was complaining about how long the NYC winter was, I was still happy as a clam. This weather is ridiculous.

I think I sorta share your sentiment a bit too. I grew up in 90+ degree summers in the south. So winter is still full of novelty for me. I really don’t like being hot. It sorta spazzes me out lol!

It was 103 yesterday, but “felt like” 108. I wouldn’t mind the heat if I had the wardrobe to go with it, or the ability to just sit in the pool all day~~

Do want pool. Ah damn you heat index!!! *shakes fist

Omg that is way too hot for me. As much as I enjoy the summery days of being lazy, I cannot stand the heat. I love winter/spring too much.

Agreed~~ Summer is usually cooler here but it’s been pretty brutal this year.

we all just need to live in a perpetual nice-weather spring/fall!!! not too hot, not to cold, we can wear what we want and not have to worry about over heading/freezing 8D

Lovely photos as always~ I really love that new H&M dress on you!
Ugh, I know what you mean about the heat though… It’s as depressing as bitterly cold, snowy winter days! I wish it could be like 75 degrees all the time~~

SO HOT LATELY! I wore flip flops into work today… and at work, bwahahah. Mostly to give my blistered feet a rest. Though it’s always freezing in my office still so I have to wear pants/tights + layers which kill me when I’m waiting for the train. Need to start taking my tights off in the bathroom before leaving work, hahaha!

I get cold too in airconditioning! In Whole Foods Fish section, my hands were shaking, lol and it’s 90 deg outside

Someday, I will actually have gumbo. *life goal*

jenny said
July 12, 2011 @ 8:40 am

*damn you frozen food aisle!!!!*

What’s scary is how much “not really gumbo” gumbo is out there. Tastes terrible like tomato soup and lacks a roux. Hopefully some cajun place with real southern recipes opens up near you some day & you can taste the real deal!

The photos of the buildings are nice! I always like looking at buildings/interiors which give off olden day/past feel? lol.

And wow it gets so hot! I think here there’s sometimes random days or weeks when the temperature gets that high, but usually the max is like 32C.

This area is especially true to its historic look. Big shops like Zara & H&M are within old townhouses

Yeah usually it’s not that hot here, but this year is just constant scorchers :(

Omg, it’s getting soooooo hot here in Toronto too. It just hit 38C today and it was crazyyyy!

Hahaha, omg, I totally hear you about the tank + shorts rant. I somehow never liked that either because it’s just so plain? A bit too plain~! Unless I’m going out to the beach or something or I’m just going out for a walk then that’s not how I’d like to be dressed. I just love layers! But it’s too hot to be layering in the summer and and wearing plain tanks and shorts all summer just doesn’t satisfy my desire for “fashionable” and stylish wear. lol.

jenny said
July 12, 2011 @ 8:51 am

In Toronto!? The Earth be crazy this year Dx

Yes, yes, I find it so boring & feel like it’s a “I gave up on looking good” look. Seeing everyone in white tank + shorts too = boring boring. It’s just a boring unfun seasonal time LOL. Leaves me disgruntle. B/c… it can’t be helped really. SO HOT :(

You look nice in that dress and I love your shoes! I decided to buy a DSLR so soon, thanks for your recommendation that time

jenny said

Oh you’re buying a DSLR? I don’t remember me discussing that, I’m sorry! What did I say? LOL I don’t have a DSLR, though it would be cool to have one xDD. I think about buying one sometimes but then I know I’d probably mostly still use my iPhone xDD! And so then I’d feel guilty for not using it enough.

We have similar problems! It’s rainy season here in the Philippines and I haven’t got a thing to wear (since it’s still hot, just rainy). I obviously can’t run out in my wedged espadrilles and my boots are still too hot for the weather. Dilemma.

jenny said
July 12, 2011 @ 8:55 am

Ah yeah we had our Rainy season too (it happens in May here.) It really does affect the whole bottom half of your wardrobe! Sometimes I would just wear plastic flip flops & get wet feet *gave up.*

I have the same feeling! I don’t like wearing tank top+shorts, too plain! I hardly get out during Summer anyway because it’s just too hot out here in Arizona! 115 degrees…. I hate it.

Ahh thats always how it is,when it too hot i complain, when its too cold i complainyou can’t win! I doubt its been as hot here as its been for you (101F:O),but we’ve had a few days of very humid hotness, which has been unbearable at work(no air con) and had everyone slumped around like sleepy bumble bees.
I like it cooler,my favourite seasons autumn.
Love your dress, too cute I struggle to put outfits i want to wear together when it gets hot too:(

101F? That’s a nightmare. So far here it’s only been in the high 90s till 8pm. The heat is unbearable and with the high humidity -___- I rarely go out now. The only time I go out is when I have to get in or out pf my car.

jenny said
July 13, 2011 @ 9:08 pm

Agreed! I love fall & winter clothes because I only know how to style with layers. In summer it’s nearly impossible and I never feel as fashionable. ‘ x ‘ I never feel comfortable with showing so much in summer so I end up wearing a shirt and tank and sweating -_-

Ah, recently I did the same thing. Set aside all the clothes that don’t fit me or that I just don’t wear anymore and if I can go a month or so without missing them I may as well just give them away I figure!
