Everything Lately

Friday, August 12th, 2011 | 57 Comments

I still feel sorta in “away” mode. Especially with my blog. It’s not that I don’t have anything to post and looking at the photos I’ve had piling up I thought I’d just go ahead and make one big mega post on a bunch of random things.

I don’t feel very good at managing my time lately and it ends up causing me a lot of unnecessary stress. So I’m going to think about that as I go into the weekend

Used Mix Style Stuff-
So last week I received my order from using Cin’s Shopping Service! I wanted to get my hands on the summer issue of 古着MIXガールズ. I randomly picked up last summer’s issue at a Book Off and it just spurred a new love for me. So, to me, this magazine is special and of course difficult as balls to get here in the States. I was considering contacting Fujisan.com to start carrying it for subscription (like I did for PopSister) but looks like they consider it as a “book.” Whatever, deal with that some other day!

Cin included a small gift too!!!!! A Lowry’s Farm navy blue shopper bag and SWIMMER ear bud accessories! The SWIMMER cat is a cord winder/organizer and the bows snap onto the earbuds.

VIB Sephora Perk-
Last weekend was double points at Sephora plus a nice freebie kit for VIB members. VIB = I SPEND TOO MUCH YEARLY ON MAKEUP. But the perks are nice & lessen the guilt of KNOWING you have a makeup addiction. *hysterical laughter*

So this kit had perfume samples, lip & cheek stain, a chemical peel or something, mascara, etc. etc. I was excited to use the NARS makeup primer though!! But in the end it caused me a zit the next day so yeah I’m probably not going to use it again. But anyway, there were some useful items nonetheless.

Evian Mist Praise-

Then I also bought Evian mist for the first time! So far it’s AMAZING. It shouldn’t be, it’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever purchased and at the same time the greatest! I’ll avoid details but basically I usually don’t have such dry skin in the summer but I do this year and I’ve tried many many things. Using this has had the best results!!

And the very day I started using it Mike asked if I did my makeup differently because it looked so fresh. This was POST-WORK when usually I look… well, like I’ve been wearing makeup for 8 hours! Then the next day too he said my face looked “fresh & happy.”

The reviews of it made me really happy. Lots of people who get acne (like me) say it helps. I’m not surprised because I do facial scrubs when I have dry skin because if I don’t the dry skin will clog my pores. This keeps it from drying in the first place. Also others mentioned buying it felt stupid because it’s just water but that they now couldn’t live without it.

Lashes & Falsies Flared-
I tweeted that I needed more natural looking accent lashes for wearing to work/less dramatic days. I ran to CVS and grabbed these on sale yesterday.

I also saw Maybelline’s The Falsies mascara has a new version out! Falsies “Flared!” I’ve been using Falsies as my “non-fiber” mascara choice for over a year now. It comes off easily with makeup remover (I can only use waterproof mascaras) on days I don’t want to deal with strict fiber formulas. I think last November they came out with “Black Drama” version that I bought and loved too. My current tube actually went empty about a month+ ago but I had SO MANY FIBER mascaras at the time I felt guilty buying a replacement tube. But now my Dolly Wink long version is almost out and so is my Beauty Tubes Double Extend mascara.

Big difference is the wand.
It’s much more voluminous/fat and flexible. I took a quick side by side of the old wand & new wand both on their sides. The original looks like a stick but if you’ve used it you know it’s like this crescent moon shape.

Snap taken when I got home from work today because I tried the new “flared” mascara this morning No fake lashes, just mascara It doesn’t perform miracles but I’ve always been happy with it. I only did one coat today. Usually I do 2 but I didn’t feel like wearing heavy makeup today.

I don’t think I posted about my necklace yet, but I finally bought a new chain for my gold cat charm! The chain is gold-dipped silver Cheaper but still nicer than the $1.50 star necklace I wore 24/7 from Forever21. The gold “wore off” so I had to throw it out. Now I wear this necklace almost every day!

Tutuanna Sock Surprise

A surprise package from my friend containing socks from Tutuanna among other things! The stamps are Hello Kitty. I often wonder if my post office would let me do this?? I have a feeling they wouldn’t be crazy about doing $20 postage in all stamps but I’ve also never asked.

I’ve never seen this particular Tokyo guide before but seeing as it’s issue 12 and it’s bi-monthly I’m guessing it’s been in production for about 2 years now. It’s pretty good too! It even lists beauty items like Qtto pressure socks, majorca majolica mascara, and spicy firming gels.

You can view it online too! At Good Luck Trip here.

The Tutuanna socks are really sweet in style with ribbons and sheer with pink polka dots. It’s getting cooler again so I should be able to wear them soon. Really love the sheer polka dot version. The ribbon tie ones feel more autumn to me so I’ve been thinking about pairing them with autumn outfits. I like how they’ll add sweetness to a look but I also don’t want to overplay the cuteness so am thinking of ways to wear them with simple looks so they become more of a key detail rather than getting lost in an over-cute-over-kill look. Pardon the ramble. I just had a Starbucks!

Also included was this PA nail deco kit with polish, stickers, jewels, and glitter powders. I’ve never used the glitter powders before. I feel I should give myself a nice pedi with these. I just repainted my nails and finally changed from jade to red. But I’ll probably go back to jade in a week!

OK and that was all the photos I had piling up this week! Not a whole lot but it’s nice to post them and be back to a clean slate.

*MOUTHBREATHING (lol)

Ooooh ok now I’m going to have to try this Evian stuff. (also, don’t you love it when our significant others notice something different about our makeup/style? haha)

Maybelline always has some of the best drugstore mascara! Their brushes are the bomb, I actually use one of my empty Maybelline mascaras as a sort of ‘comb’ for when I apply other mascara so take away some of the clumpy-ness haha

Your little ramble about the socks was cute! But I totally think things like that. You buy something that is EXTRA cute and then have to think about ways to wear it so the outfit isn’t over-the-top cute.

LOVED THE LONG POST IT’S LIKE THE HORRIFICALLY LONG ONES I MAKE LOL

Your mouthbreathing xDDD still cracking me up!!

I do love when he notices because usually he doesn’t. And as much as our makeup is ‘for us’ it’s nice when they like it too. Like an added bonus!

I hope this Evian mist helps. I’ve used it for about a week now and so far so good. Though I need to stop trying samples on top of that bc they’recausing some potential breakout spots… :(. I think I’m doomed to never finding a “primer” that doesn’t break me out. Anyway~~

Yes I’m so happy Maybelline has this mascara. I used to only use their Volume Express religiously in high school and college! They make good mascara for contact lens wearers x)

Thanks sweetie. Yeah it’s really just work rush and stress but I realize also that it’s not new but I’ve just been avoiding dealing with it this time and letting it stress me. But today and even yesterday just realizing I need to be the one to change has made it SO much easier xD And the magazines and new trinkets helped too bwahaha!

Now I really want to try the Evian mist. I have crazy dry skin (I’m terrible when it comes to moisturizing… I love all of the things that your friend sent you! I almost picked up the Falsies Flared mascara. I think I should try that out!

I have trouble putting on false lashes. Maybe the ones I get are too thick? They make my eyes watery. :(

Love the kitty ear buds, too!

jenny said
August 14, 2011 @ 8:36 pm

Have you tried clear band versions or just accent/half lash? Those are more forgiving & less heavy.

August 13, 2011 @ 2:04 am

I love it when you make long random posts with a lot of pictures in them!
I hope you find a way to stress down, I have a tendency to get over-stressed over things very easy and I know it sucks.

Aw what a cute entry! I feel the same, sometimes I just feel like giving up blogging… :/ I don’t know whether it’s because I’m having a “mood” or just I don’t feel motivated, but I (along with everybody else) always enjoy your entries! So just relax this weekend–or try to! D

I live for Maybelline’s mascara!! * o * so happy to see a new one out!

Yeah I definitely know that after 8+ years of blogging “lulls” just happen and motivation finds you again eventually . When I’m stressed about my offline life my blog definitely takes a backseat.

I’m really excited too. I haven’t really started planning on where to go in Tokyo. I do have a guide book on where to shop and eat. I’m kinda worried that the bf will not enjoy the trip as much as me, all the shopping are for girls! What did mike do during your japan trip?

Evian Mist is something I’m definitely thinking of picking up for the winter time.
I usually have dryer skin during that time so I think this will be useful!
Those socks look amazing! I think they will go well w/ simple outfits to avoid overkill!

I know exactly how you feel about the evian mist….but it feels so refreshing though! A more extravagant version of this is the paul and joe face mist. I think its a bit more moisturizing than the evian one though so its also good to use before makeup application.

I am de-lurking, first to say that I hope you manage to destress a little this weekend. It is a sucky feeling to have looming over you.

Also you have mentioned dealing with acne in your posts. You have beautiful skin and as a fellow acne sufferer I would love to know what you do to combat it. I am definitely going to look into that Evian mist.

Cheers!

I hope work becomes less stressful for you soon! Yay for the weekend…!

You make the Evian Mist sound amazing…I really want to try it for myself! It’s almost the end of my summer vacation, but it would have been so useful for the past few months!

I also love your chain and cat charm~ where did you buy it? *o*

jenny said
August 14, 2011 @ 9:31 pm

If you do get a chance to try it I hope you like it. I’m still “testing it out” but so far so good!!

The necklace is from two places. The gold charm I got years ago as a gift but I broke the chain. So I recently purchased a gold-dipped chain from Target to replace it. Not as nice as my original but affordable alternative and still some gold lol

I also have been stressing about time management… I’m trying to get things done on time (specially work deadlines) and I noticed that having an agenda or a to-list really helps!

The Swimmer cat is so adorable! I love that brand, they make the cutest items! ♥

The Falsies mascara sounds pretty awesome, I’ve been very curious about I think I’ll buy it next time!

My agenda at work is SUCH a lifesaver!!! What I’ve also been doing lately is breaking up my tasks into realistic bullet points for the week.

If you end up buying The Falsies I hope you like it! I really like it and I’m sorta picky with mascara.

Why hello! It’s been such a long time since I commented something on your blog, although I’ve been reading quite a few entries still haha.

I love it when you just randomly ramble about “gets” and stuff. Makes me happy somehow.

I saw the Evian mist in mini-bottles at an Anime/Manga/Japan convention (yes I go to those things, no I did not enjoy it too much last time OTL but that was some girls’ fault..) but they were like 8 bucks per bottle and they were tiny so I was like “whaaa I wanted to try that but ugh no just no, for that price..”. (Haha such a common story for me; price tags are NOT my friends.) But I had seen people mention it online before and some Youtube gurus talked about it as well.
I still would feel a little silly and we don’t have big Sephoras here (only store-in-store ones and even those are so limited in number, I think there are about 5 in my entire country) so I doubt I could get it. Buuut when I visit London maybe they’ll have stores where I can buy it because somehow I want to try it.

Although I heard someone say that if you just buy one of those spray bottles at the drug-store and you fill it with water it’s kind of the same thing? Hmm.. well I do think the Evian looks better of course *vain haha*. Maybe I should just give it a try, even though the European summer this year is just completely non-existent. Let me go cry in a corner some more about that fact, hah.. It’s all rain and blahh-temperatures and it’s just like autumn.. Hopefully your summer is sunnier there haha.

August 15, 2011 @ 9:34 pm

Eh yeah $8 each is about $2 more than Sephora price. :( My husband suggested that (water + spray bottle,) though I don’t think it’ll be as fine of a mist and might make makeup run badly. This mist is so light it doesn’t ruin makeup.
