South Moon Under Dresses

Wednesday, June 8th, 2011 | 64 Comments

I mentioned shopping at South Moon Under the other day. In recent weeks I’ve gotten two dresses from there.

The first is a border or striped dress with a twist. [DV by Dolce Vita] Tan velvety pockets!! I’ve wanted a border onepiece for some time now. A la LOWRYS FARM inspired. But I never LOVED any I tried. Something was missing for me. They looked too boring or shaped me poorly. But when I saw this one I fell in love!

It’s a good thin summer knit material but could be layered for winter too. The pockets are not only different in color but texture too! Soft and velvety on the outside with a cool satin finish on the inside. Cap sleeves are a nice change from the usual tank silhouettes found on most summer border dresses. I dunno. Every time I see myself in this dress I feel really happy . It’s perfect. It’s probably my favorite item right now.

And here is the black lace dress from last weekend! [Gracia] I wore it with a black blazer, black oxford heels, and black opaque tights with a bright red bow on 1 ankle. This would look like funeral attire if it weren’t DC where black isn’t just a color, it’s often a requirement. This dress is sweet with the lace and asymmetrical hem but also it sorta has a cool vibe since it’s black.

It’s so difficult to photograph pitch black details…

It’s funny. Some time ago I was looking at my dresses (pre-closet-overhaul) and thought “I don’t wear dresses like I used to.” There was a time where I hated wearing pants and wore dresses/skirts only. I couldn’t GET ENOUGH of dresses. Then it changed and I hardly ever wore dresses.

Lately I think I’m at an even balance. I wear dresses/skirts as much as I wear pants/shorts.

There was no real point to that except that I find it interesting I’ve been buying dresses again lately.

Like my Pixie Market Blush Pink Dress….

Ok~~ I think I have enough new dresses. No more big shopping for a while or else I won’t have even enough time to wear it all. Plus I still have old stuff to share hahahaa~~ Actually I bought that border dress a month ago now? Wow, times flies so quickly.

Oh my goodness! I really really really want that first dress! Except I am not in the greatest shape of my life and probably won’t be able to pull it off as wonderfully as you did!

jenny said
June 9, 2011 @ 3:42 pm

Awe it’s a nice straight cut so pretty flattering I think, though I used to run away from border when I was not in shape :(

that black lace dress is to DIE for!! i really loveee and gravitate towards dresses like that and i love your outfit for it, too. the border dress is gorgeous as well, really simple and understated but lovely nonetheless.

Thank you! Yeah, I think these two dresses definitely aren’t in the “same family” but both nice for different looks!

I tend to wear pants/shorts but I’m trying to wear more dresses for summer. I’m really small so it’s often hard for me to find ones that not only fit me but don’t make me look even more younger for my age xP but in love your border dress! I’m crazy about stripes at the moment

jenny said
June 9, 2011 @ 3:43 pm

This border style is super easy to find these past few summers too! H&M has some really affordable versions Nice to just throw on when heading out!

I looove the black dress so much! Recently i’ve started to love wearing dresses only because it’s the ultimate lazy person’s clothing. Instead of worrying about my coord I just throw on a dress and a cardi and voila, instant coord! The shortcuts I like to take in life just for 5 minutes of extra sleep .

love the border dress with those wedges! (and secretly envy your slim legs *_* I am skinny every where except my legs T^T) and the all black outfit is so cool.

i think black and border patterns are timeless, you can wear it in 5 years and still be stylish. so those were very nice choices of you! i know you are trying to make that sort of functional wardrobe, right? :3

jenny said
June 9, 2011 @ 3:55 pm

Awe yeah, I’m skinny leg until my thighs! It’s like a turkey drumstick hahahahaha, It’s why I like the length of the first dress a lot, no worries of unhappy bits showing, haha

Yea, I’m trying to shop smarter, shop for now and the future. Definitely not getting any younger so I need things that can change with me

June 9, 2011 @ 9:18 am

I really like the black dress! And those shoes are a perfect touch.

I love all the buys. I was surprised at the border dress though as I didn’t really like it on the hanger but it looks gorgeous on.
The black outfit is also lovely, especially with the little ‘pop’ of red on your ankle.

I’d also like to see more of the blush pink dress. It looks lovely~

The black dress is absolutely gorgeous.

I know what you mean about sometimes never wearing dresses, then the next year you’re wearing them all the time - I do the same thing! I think this year I’m more like you and have combined the two pretty equally.

I love the both dresses and you wear them so well! I’m myself looking for the perfect lacey dress, but no luck just yet! Also looking for a pair of black oxford heels.. Any recomendations on where you could buy a pair?

You always look so stylish and stunning! Much love for your taste in fashion !

Wow I really love that border dress! It’s so simple I would have probably passed it up at a store but I LOVE how it fits! It looks spectacular on! ;D (this is why I love inspo!!) Anyway, yes…I want to become more of a dress person. I love them but they always don’t seem to fit just right…
all the black is stylish especially with those adorable shoes
