Japanese Arcade Snaps

Wednesday, December 22nd, 2010 | 61 Comments

Ok I did gachapon yesterday so how about UFO Catcher snaps today?! Oh these I even have WORSE luck with! Even after watching “helpful videos” on how to win I still failed! I know you can get the shop keeps to make it “easier” upon request. I even saw it done! However, Mike advised me not to cause a fuss lol. So I never tried asking. Oh well~

So I tried the most for the Rinka items at Sega! I don’t like Sega Arcades that much because you have to switch your money out for Sega Tokens (dnw) but whatever.

It’s the iconic Rinka character in both pillow and phone strap form!

The pillow! Omg I wanted this so badly *cries a river*

EYE CANDY SPAM TIME

Oversized food containers you can win!

A sign showing which prizes have just arrived or will arrive

Alpaca are super popular right now. There are even photobooks & DVDs featuring Alpacas as if they were cats (cat photobooks & DVDs which are crazy popular!)

Arcades usually have purikura sections or even entire floors. I don’t care for some of the new machines that much lol. Like 7iRO Co. (ナナイロコーデ.) It’s hard to explain. It’s just, they feel less cute oriented and are more DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION oriented. And the exteriors are less cutesy and more web 2.0 iPhone sleek digital age looking. Haha~ I’m probably not making much sense.

7iRO Co.

ALPACA PLUSHIES!
*STARS IN EYES*

Yeah, I saw those too - I was a little freaked out by the new machines - much too much effort and takes all the fun out of it - we tried one that made out eyes look freaky big and shiny - we look like aliens!

Haahaa the Dolly eye ones will super magnify your eyeballs!! I never used the full eye expansion on those, only 1 step up and still they were like WHOA.

Yeah that machine in particular was crazy, it felt more I HAVE TO LOOK SCULPTED BEAUTIFUL rather than fun & cute~

Haahaa! I took a lot of purikura but last time I posted them they ended up being posted on random ppl’s blogs/sites & that sorta freaked me out so I probably won’t ever post them :X

Mike is a pro at the US claw games but sucks balls with Japanese style ones!

I’m not a fan of Sega arcades either, it seems they make it a little more difficult on the UFO catchers.
I spent almost 2,000 YEN trying to get a giant Alpaka. I have a feeling the ‘larger’ items are more fixed than the others.

However I have had good experiences. There is an arcade in Kabukicho where the same guy has moved things for me a few times, and then told me the tricks of the trade haha
I think it’s just luck of the draw.

I haven’t seen those Rinka pillows/chains but if I do I will try in your honour! But don’t get your hopes up, I’m not very good haha

jenny said
December 23, 2010 @ 11:22 pm

I agree, larger items, especially the ring on hook ones seem deceptively easy but don’t budge AT ALL! OMG if you ever one any of the RINKA ones (there’s a shushu one out now) I’d pay you back for it in full!!! hahahaa

bloomzy said

Which Sega arcade was it?
I’ll be heading to Shinjuku on Tuesday so I could pop to Kabukicho if it was one of those ones.

December 27, 2010 @ 8:15 am

Ah, sorry late reply!! I saw the pillows in Shibuya but the straps were in most SEGA arcades! Have fun on your outing! If you do happen to find one & play, let alone win, YOU ROCK!

(Comments wont nest below this level)

Awww, the alpaca! Do want~ *__* I’ve looked for something like that here, but to no avail.

Oh! Is that a DVD of Maru the cat (from youtube?)? Haha, cute.

Hm, I don’t like those super-transformation purikura so much. It’s a bit…weird, I think. Though, the pictures for the “CUBE” purikura machine are cute.

jenny said
December 23, 2010 @ 11:23 pm

Yup it’s a Maru DVD!!!

Yea Cube is cute! And it’s print style is sorta fun too

Yeah alpacas! Not as cute in real life sadly… But they seem to be in with the mori girl thing?

Oh man those machines made Andy look like a bug-eyed freak in 2 strips!!! LOoool

jenny said
December 23, 2010 @ 11:25 pm

Alpaca are popular just because they have those CRAZY SUPER EYELASHES! That’s the only reason why DDDDD & furry~~

No seriously, I don’t think the eye enhance ones are good for, um *cough*white boys*cough* =Y Mike looked so strange in the ones I took this trip compared to the machines we used last time. And I didn’t even go FULL enhancement!

Ohhh, I’m never any good at those things either! ;o; I think I would feel even worse for failing on any of those because they have such cute things too, buu~
Love the purikura machine photos ♥ Though I agree about the 7iRO Co. one, looks slightly creepy…

Oh gosh, there’s a mini Japanese arcade just like this in Sydney which I always visit.. today I did too and took some purikura~
I waste so much money on trying to get a toy from the claw .___.
You think you’ve got it but somehow the claw just drops it D:

Once on the plane to / from HK it was showing a DOCUMENTARY on how to win those prizes in the ufo catcher machines… takes a huge amount of skill but most of them try to get the claw tangled in the tags or small gaps in the soft toy (like if the arm is sewed to the hip so it’s not just dangling). it was very educational and I wanted to try it out too but I haven’t found any good machines with nice prizes like the ones in japan ( ̄ゝ ̄)

Seriously we CRAMMED on youtube vids on how to win at these games and still failed. And Mike’s an expert at the American claw style ones but not at the UFO style ones :(

and the amount of money i wasted on the stupid rilakkuma machine!! i even asked the shop assistant to make it easier but she actually made it harder!! DDD:
ufo catchers make me depressed
i didnt see the new purikura booth in sendai but i went to the one with the free falsies havent tried them yet though~

I think it was in Shibuya mostly. The lash ones are neat but I think take practice getting them to fit on your eye just right! Like just as long as just putting on fake ones take

UFO catchers in Japan always have the best stuff!! *__* Those Rinka items are beyond cute~! ♥

7iRO looks like the ultimate alien machine lol

jenny said

Haha, my mom is the BEST at UFO-catchers. Hopefully she’ll be able to win some things if I ever go to Japan.. (the prizes in the UFO-catchers here are not as cool, plus UFO-catchers are rare here anyway)

jenny said
December 23, 2010 @ 11:39 pm

Our catchers blow usually too, the claw type is most popular and I can sometimes when at them but the prizes are usually blegh.

that VIDEO!!! ok brb, going to go watch more ‘cheat’ videos on how to win at these! i don’t even TRY to play any more because i’m so bad -_- i remember ONCE i won a duck plushie out of a machine when i was young and i was so proud.

llama obsession? haha that’s great. except llamas aren’t so great themselves, what with the spitting and stuff…but oh well the plushes are adorable!!

December 23, 2010 @ 11:17 pm

Oh I totally agree! 7IROco is weird! I don’t really get the appeal of of web 2.0-ing yourself?! I would much rather enhance my cuteness meter ‘ x ‘
Ah I hate to be bashing the US and praising Japan…BUT…ufo catchers are one of those things. The ones in the US always look so dirty and have such fail prizes! I don’t understand why we can’t put useful (or at least quality) stuff in there! And make them white!
Anyway, I love a good old-fashioned arcade. I find those really hard to find in the US unless you go to Dave n Busters or Mountasia or smthng.

jenny said
December 23, 2010 @ 11:41 pm

God the US machines! Some of the stuff looks like it’s been sitting in there for DECADES!!!! Though true, D&B do have Care Bears and candy pillows in theirs, but… don’t add up to the Japan gifts imo
