IKEA Gets

Tuesday, January 17th, 2012 | 36 Comments

Sunday night I went to IKEA and picked up a few things for my office. Yeah, my cubicle. A few months ago I sort of purged my cube of all decor in a sort of MUST DE-CLUTTER TO THINK way. But now it feels cold and I really want it to be a warmer space. A la Korean office goods or sorta zakka trend style. Besides if I change my mind later or something I love everything I got and can use it at home!

The little finger bowls are perfect for emptying my 100 calorie packs into. Makes the snack seem to last longer than just eating them out of the bag like an uncontrollable cookie monster. The KNUBBIG is a small table lamp. I plugged it in today on my desk. It gives it such a cozier atmosphere and it’s nice having some extra light that isn’t from giant overhead florescent bulbs. And the faux greenery… greenery is so good to have surrounding you even if it’s fake, haha.

Monday the contractors finished with the repairs. Now my house smells like new paint but that should air out soon. It’s actually so mild tonight I have the window open for ventilation!

I spent the 8 hours they were here to gather items for a donation drive ran by the Lupus Foundation! They accept nearly everything! From clothing to housewares. You then schedule a pickup (I did it online) and they’ll pick it up for donation. It’s wonderful and a great excuse to finally let go of things you know are still in great condition but you have no use for it. They take the items and sell them raising funds for the foundation. For more information you can visit LupusPickup.org

Ahh! I love the new pick ups even if they are fake! I love plants. I have a vase of fake flowers next to my bed. Despite them not smelling like anything like they are supposed to, they definitely make waking up a little easier.

Thanks for telling us about the foundation! I’m definitely going to check it out! ^^

Awe, your cubicle must be so cosy & cute! I love everything you picked out ♥
Congrats on donating to such a great cause too. It’s nice to know there are other, more specific charities you can donate to besides the Goodwill, Salvation Army etc.

Thank you thank you ~~ I work in the ugliest space lol. It’s government building to the max, hideous carpet to match hideous wall color. I need some distraction from all the hideousness ol

Yeah I truly wish I knew about their pickup drive YEARS ago. This will be my first pickup and I have 5 bags ready!

I hope your office is more cozy now! But not too cozy that you start to fall asleep or anything haha

I’ve actually never been to an IKEA :o

and it’s great you’re donating stuff! when I left Korea, I donated SO much of my stuff in these giant green containers they have in every neighborhood. Makes donating so easy that if you DON’T do it you’re just a bad person 8D hahahahaha

Great items for your cubicle. Sometimes I wish I had a little cubicle I could decorate too

It’s sorta nice. I mean sometimes we’re reminded SO MUCH that it’s not really “ours” but then you settle in again & it does feel like yours. People here tend to personalize their spaces too which is nice. Last year I was just … wanting distance between me & my job so I cleared everything off!!! But now I think I’d feel happier bringing in home-like items.

Did you get the faux greenery from IKEA? How much did they cost? I love plants, too. Those look perfect for redecorating my new room (:

I did! I can’t remember the cost, I don’t know, I think like $4~$7. The planters were between $2~$5 I think. They’re probably on the website actually!!

Oh I bet they have that here too! I’ve always just taken my stuff to donation bins but they’re all very specific like “clothing only” “toys only” which is sorta a buzz kill sometimes idk.

I gotta say you have great taste in plants ^^ They’re so varied and cute D: I like that clean theme going on there.. reminds me of a transition from winter to spring. (NOOO winter is never going to end is it?)

Lovely items you got at IKEA I always tend to get over excited whenever I get there. Last time I hadn’t planned on buying anything but ended up with a few items anyway.
I was actually really close to buy the lamp KNUBBIG (means chubby in swedish btw) but changed in the last minute.. kind of regreted it right away though :(
Take care ~

Haha thanks for the translation!! The lamp is crazy bright though, brighter than I expected!! I placed it behind a plant to diffuse the light a bit more on my desk

Yeah I kinda went overboard though I tried not to. So far though I’ve used everything except the candles. I’m gonna use them at home, outdoors on the balcony instead.

Over the years so many plants have tragically lost their lives at my hands, so the next time I make it to Ikea I should invest in some fake plants and stop the massacre. Yours don’t look nearly as fake as the ones my mom had growing up! They’re amazing!

jenny said

They’ve come a long way, that’s true. Plus they pick good varieties to mimic! Like many of these plants are waxy in real life so a fake version doesn’t look so bad. Or like the daisy one, it looks sorta fake even when it’s real anyway :3

I love Ikea! For products that are fairly reasonable in cost, they hold well for a long time. My good friend in Belgium always tells me to be careful on what I pick, but I keep telling him I have plenty of Ikea stuffs and everything has lasted me for many years. I have an urban garden and I enjoy picking up pots for plants from Ikea. Too bad many do not have drain holes!!! I think recently they started adding more pots with them.

I had a friend who dogged out my coffee table from them then 2 years later asked me which model it was b/c she was buying it for herself … =_______= lol!

I agree. Some stuff might be a little dodgy, or better said the quality matches the cost, but honestly I’ve been extremely satisfied and surprised by most of what I’ve gotten from them!!!

YES TO THE DRAIN HOLES. They really do seem meant for fake plants Dx Or at least indoor use on dry soil loving plants.

Ikea is fantastic in terms of design and cost! I love your sense of like…interior design, and the little items that you get! Such a simple and fresh style.

Thank you I like simple and clean looks usually. I’m sorta of two minds, I like a lot of various interior styles but I find I’m happiest longest with minimal, clean-line designs

“Knubbig” is the swedish word for “chubby”! Such a cute and matching name for a round little lamp ^^

Perfect name I think! It’s funny they don’t translate ANY of it for the US shops.

I love the decorations…indeed very “Zakka” and I also believe in any greenery being better than none and soft lighting…I hope you’ll show us what it looks like when it’s all set up I’m also doing donations at the moment…FEELS SO GOOD!

I shall, I only took one photo yesterday, forgot to snap the rest. The rest is more “office-like” though so sorta boring. I work in the oldest ugliest of government buildings #tragic

That’s such a great idea. The winter months are so foggy and gloomy that have these lovely fake plants may do just the trick to make it cozy. I absolutely love iswas and zakka style items! Do you know of any good zakka focused magazines? I love looking at zakka designs.

Actuuuuuuuuuuuually there are a few! Um damn, I know I blogged some a few years ago… *trying to remember.*

I know there’s one called “Zakka Book.” There’s also “私のカントリー” “Cotton Time” and “Plus 1 Living.”

Some links too —
